Batman's Log: 7-3-2-0-2-0:

"The end is upon us, and the world is no longer safe. Poisoned by a massive amount of kryptonite during a confrontation with Metallo several weeks ago, Clark - Superman, was left open for an attack from a techno virus of Brainiac's creation. With a weakened body the Kryptonian quickly fell under Brainiac's control and the techno virus allowed him to transform, manipulate, and even enhance Superman's already tremendous abilities. This new Man of Steel has enslaved countless members of Metropolis' populace with the techno virus, as well as several members of the Justice League and up and coming heroes of the Young Justice Academy. We must rise. The heroes must rise, or our futures will end. We can't possibly save them all, but how do you choose who lives and dies?

"I will assimilate this entire planet and it will serve as vessel to my new host and metahuman army.
Then... I will consume the knowledge of Apokolips and New Genesis.

This is where the game picks up, three weeks after Brainiac's possession of Superman with the technovirus. We're what's left of the League and YJ Academy. Players have the option of aging an existing cannon character, perhaps retire them with a new younger legacy hero in the YJ Academy, or create an original for the game on either team. However they won't all be originals, I need a few cannons or cannon inspired at least. I'll leave a few spots open in the League and list the ones who are in the League with crossed out names being taken/enslaved by Superman and the Brainiac virus. I'm also putting this in Advanced because I'm looking for people who can advance a story. You won't need to ask me when you can take down Brainiac drones or dozens of techno-zombie civilians. If you get separated from the other heroes and your powers aren't as strong or reliable as others, imagine yourself in a situation like the Walking Dead. It's as much about survival going in to stop this thing from spreading past Metropolis city limits. There will also be plenty of sub-bosses in play [enslaved heroes and villains] when in the city limits and the chance any one of us could be enslaved. Most civilians not infected by the virus have been evacuated, however with an estimated two hundred thousand infected civilians still in the city, there are hundreds of survivors trapped in the subways. These people are tired, scared, and starving.

Looks wise I imagine enslaved civilians looking something like the Husks in Mass Effect 3. They can infect you with the techno-virus by biting you to put it directly into your blood stream. Most of the 200,000 civilians turned into machines won't make it out of this. Surviving civilians with only tech going up their arm or part of their body can survive, but if it's anywhere near the face/head already it's all over.

I threw my old multiple man hero Ditto in the League but he'll be more of an unlimited army once we get to Super Brainiac's central command. Of course older heroes from the ages of 22+ will be in the League. Batman being of the oldest he's in his early forties, the Flash is mid thirties, with the YJ crew between the ages of 15-20 with Nightwing coming in at 21.

Major differences in this DCU in the year 2020:

• Green Arrow is dead [again lol]
• Instead of iPhones and iPads, with Terrific Tech [Mr. Terrific's company] being the big personal and home technologies manufacturer, folks have tPhones, tPads, and T2 Computers.
• PS4s will be replaced with 'PSAlphas.'
• Villains of Metropolis will also be under Brainiac's control and include: Parasite, Metallo, and Livewire.
• Any characters with tech based weapons are likely to lose them in the gray mass of nanobots currently blanketing over the city remaking it in Brainiac's techno-image. Lots of green and purple bio-mechanical stuff with chrome plated bits everywhere have begun sprouting up.
• Limited intelligence suggests the more colored bio-mech towers to be sentient power sources, massive controlling towers, and robot drone generators capable of defending themselves.
• Green Lantern and Livewire are believed to be enslaved to help power Super Brainiac's war machines.
• The Flash and Raven will lead search and rescue teams to rescue trapped civilians in the subways on opposite ends of the city.
• WW and Batman will lead the remaining heroes in taking down control towers and power sources throughout the city, and gaining access to what Batman believes to be Brainiac's central command.

Everything else depends on how you guys choose to spin it. I've got a variation of Beast Boy in mind myself, other than that just about everybody else is fair game. Again, note that we still need a few characters based on cannons, or inspired by cannons. For example if you wanted to make your own version of Black Canary complete with a sonic scream and just call her Blackbird and make her like the teen sidekick equivalent of BC in the YJ Academy that's cool. Or making a Supergirl that's a clone of Superman with black hair rather than a blonde cousin. Maybe one of you have an idea for an older Red Arrow in his mid 20's as a member of the League? Somebody could be an older, graying Aquaman! Skies the limit for this one...

To further map out the situation, with the aid of the Justice League Dark's Swamp Thing, the Science Police, and what's left of Metropolis PD, and some Army Reserves are all working to keep a line between the growing city of machines and the rest of the world. With the JL Dark in the fold you could have a more mystical character associated with them like Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman, etc. A few loner heroes or villains would be fine additions to the cast as well but they'd be more or less wildcards. Any drop-outs would likely become enslaved, and if everyone likes the setting we can actually have the enemy gain ground rather than lose the first few battles. What if Brainiac's nanobots and forces took over 90% of major cities in North America and began forming a Grey Continent? How much longer could the world survive? What of those trapped in the machine cities?

And if Brainiac's influence does manage to push those borders, does that mean he's got more than just a Green Lantern and electric villain's powers jacking his stats? What could POSSIBLY make a Superman/Brainiac merger more deadly? I'd post my CS but it's a longer one for me and there's a lot of details. Make no mistake this is going to be Advanced. I may go ahead and post it though, it's like a mix of Beast boy and Ben10...

The Lantern and by extension the ring are part of Brainiac's early power sources. If it's tech based, Brainiac basically owns it within city limits as soon as his tech corrupts it.

Edit: He was basically Luther's attempt to make a human that could rival Superman. Luther's brains, a bit of Tameranian DNA. Or I could be a Tameranian character, as I made one that was Blackfire's son and came to Earth when his Aunt went missing in order to find her.

New52 Light was a metahuman and married to the woman who will at some point become the second Dr. Light. They've both been metas for awhile and even on the Flash tv series with dumbed down abilities she was still a meta.

Powers - Superbeast has shape-shifting abilities similar to classic Beast Boy, however he is limited to the alien wildlife in Superman's menagerie once obtained by the Preserver. This includes such alien species thought to be the last of their kind:

Thanagarian Snare Beast - Imagine a giant spider creature the size of a small house, however it doesn't spin webs.
Starro - Small amphibious starfish sized face suckers that can control any creature it attaches itself to.
Igoonian Rock Ape - As the name implies, an alien ape like creature with brute strength and rocky skin.
Tundronian Rhinosaur - A ten legged alien rhino with an even stronger plated hide, with a horn that can shoot a super acidic ooze.
'Bone Serpent' of Daxam - Largest known predator on Daxam that lives mostly underground. Can rip a humanoid in half with it's python like grip and pointed tail.
Prehistoric Conarian Bird - Think about an alien vulture, about the size of a small couch an average sized humanoid could ride on if need be.
Humatoad - Eight inch tall trouble maker. Hops around on all fours and can stick to most surfaces.
Bearcat -What looks to be a hybrid of a bear and a tiger from a planet in sector 2828. About the size of a small car, this beast is ferocious when it needs to be.
Lightning Beast of Winath -The Big Foot of it's planet, some people of Winath believe the 'Lightning Beast' to be responsible for large scale blackouts. Others believed it to be a hoax. About the size of a larger dog.
Grass Monkey of Mogo -Hailing from the sentient planet GL Mogo, this species of plant creature occupied Mogo's forests for a time. Can regenerate and elongate limbs, agile like a monkey and similar in size.
T-Rex - Prehistoric tyrannosaurus rex originating from Earth. Massive jaws can rip through anything they bite down on.
Dodo Bird -Small, fast, and flightless bird that defends itself by stabbing at enemies with it's beak. About three feet tall and roughly fifty pounds.

Gar also possesses enhanced speed, strength, agility, and senses. All feral in nature, nothing too superhuman. He can run a mile in about three minutes maybe, like Olympic level strength and speed. Later on he will learn to imprint DNA from new animals to add to his arsenal.

Weaknesses - Same fleshy weaknesses as humans, just with durable skin/fur about as strong as kevlar. Heavy arms fire, energy attacks, mental attacks, etc all work on Superbeast unless countered specifically by an alien creature. For example, you couldn't telepathically hurt his mind if he shifted into the Starro.

Personality - Gar tries to be funny, has a big heart, and is a bit bi-polar. He'll go feral on your ass at the drop of a dime if you piss him off.

Bio - It began with Clark Kent writing a story for the Daily Planet about his 'exclusive' trip to the Fortress of Solitude. The mention of an interplanetary habitat and housing the last of several alien species intrigued the big wigs at National Geographic and the Discovery Network. The cosmic zoo was once the collection of an alien called the Preserver who tried capturing Superman and Lobo for his gallery of exotic alien wild life. It included a somehow preserved prehistoric tyrannosaurus rex and the last Dodo Bird. Meetings were made between Superman and several biologists and xenobiologists and Superman received many letters addressed to Daily Planet editorial.

Enter Mark and Marie Logan, both biologists, who were chosen by Superman himself for the tour of the interplanetary habitat. Their twelve year old son Garfield was also asked to join them at the insistence of Superman. As fate would have it, an emergency pulled Superman away from the Fortress, whom Superman left in the care of his robot assistants while the husband and wife collected data and photos of the remaining species of the zoo. Superman hadn't known of the Starro's abilities when it attached itself to the Logan's son. While trying to escape the Fortress the mind-controlled boy was bitten and scratched by several of the creatures and bugs in the habitat before the Starro latched onto Mark Logan.

Superman returned and put the KO on the Starro, but had no idea what sort of anti-venom to give the boy who was already turning red. Choosing a combination of two or three antidotes the boy seemed to stabilize after several seizures. However, his red skin remained. His bi-polar mother blamed herself. She began to work less and sunk into a depression. Over the years Garfield's mother home schooled him as he randomly shifted into the alien creatures seen in the interplanetary habitat. Even a Starro! When Superman learned of his abilities he recommended Garfield join the Young Justice Academy right around the time of his seventeenth birthday. Garfield then took up a costume of his own and trimmed his chest fur into a Superman pentagon shape. Now, with a years experience under his belt, he calls himself... SUPERBEAST.

Notes - I guess this makes him similar to Ben10, but I've got the extra two creatures in the T-Rex and Dodo Bird.

Okay not a whole lot longer now that I look at it but coming up with visual reference for a lot of concepts otherwise mostly untouched in DC cannon was tough. Not sure if the lightning beast from Lightning Lad's [of the LoSH] origin was ever was seen in-panel. Same thing goes with the Thanagarian Snare Beast which Kevin Smith came up with on the fly when talking to a Superman movie producer in the 90's. A lot of them I just came up with after finding the images, as I wanted it all to look more like wildlife than alien humanoid superheroes similar to Ben10. And two of them were from the HB Herculoids cartoon from before my time [I caught reruns in the late 80's]. And of course they'll all be shades of red when SB shifts into them, similar to when Beast Boy shifts and the animals are all green.

So far there's been interest shown in the thread or PMs for Dr. Light, Shazam, and possibly an original or older cannon character. Not a bad start!

Powers: Super Intellect, Light Manipulation (beams, force fields, flight, invisibility, blinding flash, etc.)
Weaknesses: Women. He's a massive womanizer and has been arrested for stalking a woman before. Also, there's been other allegations against him, but he's never been convicted of anything worse, unless you count robbery.
Personality: Self absorbed.
Appearance: That was before he grew a mustache so he would have a gotee.
Brief Bio: Wanting to get into the Superhuman game, mostly for the groupies, he built a suit that allowed him to control light, giving him the ability to cloak himself and shoot lasers. When Atomic Skull started luring the women away from him, though, they got into a bit of a contest over them. Eventually he built the most powerful suit he could and challenged him to a battle, to prove that he was stronger. The suit overloaded during the battle, killing several bystanders, including groupies, though he and Skull survived, though he was knocked out.
When woke up he found that he had the powers of his suit without having to wear it, and even a few more, like the ability to fly. He made himself a suit out of the strongest material he could get and went after Skull, who had been spreading rumors about him while he was in the hospital. After beating Skull to a pulp and making him ask for mercy, permanently securing his spot as top dog, he became a serious villain, pulling off heists and hiring himself out to other villains when they could pay him.
He was eventually arrested by Superman during one of Luthor's plots, and sent to Bel Rev. When he got out of prison on good behavior, he had to choose whether to become a hero, become a civilian, or break his parole and go back to prison. He chose to be a hero, and asked the Justice League if they could use his help. They didn't really trust him, but when the Brainiac crisis happened a few weeks later Batman gave him a call.
Notes: He wants to get the team to steal back the Lantern rings and lanterns for him, so that he can use the will of the area to power up.

Wisdom of Solomon- With Solomon's wisdom, Billy can decipher various ancient languages through writing and speech, think at an accelerated rate and, if he pays enough attention, learn entirely new concepts in a fraction of the time. This power isn't used a whole lot by Billy as thinking about a situation before acting isn't exactly his forte. It's main use is to quickly think of witty remarks.
Strength of Hercules- Using his mighty muscles Captain Marvel has been able to go toe to toe with the likes of Superman and punching straight through steel with minimal effort. This is the main cause of Billy's cocky attitude.
Stamina of Atlas- When you have the physique of a god, it takes quite a bit to wear you out. Captain Marvel uses Atlas's gifts to take on the full force of a nuclear blast and still be unfazed enough to crack a witty comment.
Power of Zues- By wielding the very abilities of Zues, Billy is able to transform by speaking aloud the word 'Shazam' into his heroic alter ego Captain Marvel! The powers of Zues also allow Billy to control lighting via calling it down from the sky or firing it from his own body. If he really needs it he can yell Shazam and dodge out of the way to call down a large amount of lighting to strike an enemy in close proximity.
Courage of Achillis- From the boons of Achillis, Captain Marvel is granted the ability to persevere where lesser people would run in terror. This is a major influence on Billy's personality and by this point most wonder wether it is Achillis courage or Billy's arrogance that gives Captain Marvel his indomitable will to fight. It also protects him somewhat from mental attacks.
Speed of Mercury- And finally with the swiftness of the god Mercury Captain Marvel has the potential to travel at great speeds and soar through the air with little effort. It's especially useful for making grand entrances.

Weaknesses:
-Billy's greatest weakness is his own personality. Having been able to stand a chance against Superman in the past has made Billy over confident and not a good judge of situations. On top of that Billy still acts like an eighteen year old rather than an adult with a great amount of cockiness derived from the power he weilds. The Wisdom of Solomon has always been one of the power's he's had problems tapping into.
-If he is unable to say the word Shazam he is not able to transform into his heroic alter ego and if he is made to say it while in his heroic guise then unless he can be quick up enough to dodge it, he will be turned back into Billy Bastion.

Billy is very confident thanks to the power bestowed upon him by the mighty wizard Shazam all those years ago. His moral compass is still on track but he has been known to showboat when he is fairly certain that something is not a threat. When faced with a tough situation Billy will go in headstrong and confidently with very little regard. All that being said he has acknowledged that if Superman can be beaten then he can too so he isn't stupidly arrogant but still arrogant none the less. Working with the justice league for the past few years has taught Billy the value of team work though he won't always just do whatever is best for the team. Since the assimilation of Superman Billy has been trying to take charge and act as a beacon to the others though this comes off to other as him just trying to fill the Man of steel's shoes. Billy will mostly just do his own thing but if someone with a lot of authority comes in and tells him to quit messing around he'll take heed and try to tone down his boisterous personality.

Billy was an average child growing up in a loving home with his two parents but after his parents were killed in a car crash when he was eleven his life took an unexpected turn. After his parents’ death Billy was sent to live in a foster home but Billy couldn’t cope with the idea of being an orphan which prompted him to run away from his foster home and try to get back to his old home via the subway. It was late when he got on the train and he was only one of two people in the current car. Just him and an elderly man. Billy rode the train for a while with nothing to do but eventually the train stopped at what he thought was his stop but as he exited the train car he knew he wasn’t in the right place mainly due to the lack of anything but a large stone facility.

Billy was confused and as he turned to get back on the train he found himself before the old man from the train and no actual train to be seen. The old man explained to Billy that he had looked into Billy’s heart and seen not a heart of pure good but the potential that he may one day do good, given the chance. An already emotionally damaged Billy was not coping with the whole situation very well and began to lose his mind. His parents had died not even a month ago, now he was in some void with an old man telling him that if he tried he could do something with his life. Rather then lose his cool and completely break down into tears like a healthy person Billy just accepted the situation and bottled up his feelings. The old man then began to explain his reasoning for brining Billy to this place which was to give him the power to do good in his world with the amazing powers of gods themselves. Billy didn’t have time to ask any follow up questions before a blinding light and the word ‘Shazam’ was yelled.

The young boy awoke back in his bed in his foster home. He assumed the whole ordeal was a dream but after mockingly yelling Shazam he was struck by lighting and transformed into an adult version of himself wearing a spiffy costume. This scared Billy enough to fall out of his window and into the yard of the foster home. Billy took a moment to look at his new form and noticed that he was hovering above the ground. From that moment on Billy knew his life was going to be a little different from that of a typical orphan. Under the guise of Captain Marvel Billy made a name for himself saving the world from petty crime and the occasional global threat. These action eventually lead to his induction into the Justice league with most members at the time being completely unaware of the boy’s true age.

-Now that all league members know about his real age he lives full time at the Watchtower.
