Harem Roleplays: Feasible?

After going through some anime RP and RPs where romance is a thing (and perhaps a few too many episodes of anime and other things), I wondered if you could actually run a harem-style RP out of curiosity. Far fetched on multiple levels I know, but again, would it even have a chance?

Is the Anima gents different from the ancient practice in which most ancient rulers, including those of the three books (just to squelch the idea that some regional beliefs are better than others)?

But reasonably speaking as previously mentioned, if done tastefully and carefully enough to prevent any unappreciated exposure to those particularly sensitive folks I don't think you should have that hard of a time running it. You'd just have to make the story about something other than the "romance."

Most "Harem-animes" so to say focus on the time between the male character and each female one at a time. That, of course, will get trickier in a roleplay with all the other characters who have to be doing something else at the same time. They need something to do, too, after all. As ELGainsborough says, it'd help to have a story that focuses on something else than the romance to give them something to do. If you somehow want to focus on the Romance...

... Hah. Suddenly I got the image in my head of a roleplay where all players play girls who are in love with a single NPC boy, and they all need to do their best to snare his heart, competing with one another while the NPC is a total buffoon when it comes to awareness, anime style. Not sure how well it'd work, but in my head it's a fun idea. Haha. In any case. That was my immediate thought.

I agree with, like, half of everyone here. It would have to be more than the romance, but yeah, it's feasible. You'd just have to make it closer to just your bog-standard slice-of-life school roleplay, but with the twist which is usually taken up by something like "Blah blah magic" being that life works like a harem anime. Personally, I'd thrown in some mention of current events (Maybe it takes place twenty minutes into the future, or maybe the Cold War is still going on like in Full Metal Panic, maybe the whole school is actually on a generational starship or some other crazy thing like that), then let people get mixed up in the results of those events/have them be a part of their backstory. It could be a fun way to play with anime tropes (The mysterious shy girl's parents were killed by the Soviets and she has PTSD! The uppity, rich tsundere is the Captain's daughter!)

But, in the end, a roleplay based entirely off of the usual harem antics wouldn't work out. It really has to have some overall plot (They're learning to something something warfare/the evil empire's gotta go down), or be really, really character driven.

Hey, at this point anything is possibly a good RP when compared to one that I saw once where a guy wanted a 1x1 about a birthing scene in the hospital that was going wrong and he wanted the other player to be the struggling female.
