These are independent on your own upgrades. You acquire these due to certain events during a mission.

Salvage: Microwave Heat ray; You may not be able to salvage your impromptu death ray. But you salvaged enough to understand how to make a new setting on your raygun.
Third Sister:BEST KOREA; Your earthshaking conviction makes your mind resistant to tampering.
Emerald Sorcerer:Familiar Knowledge; The magical bond between you and your familiar gives both of you a bonus when dealing with complex spells.
Spyder; Improved Targeting Matrix Scavenged from the remains of the eye, with Salvage help, you can install a better targetting system that will assure you much improved aim.
Desperation; Field Medic: Your on the spot judgement is impressive, your likeliness to achieve success is greatly increased when under pressure.
Conscious: Your exposure to inhuman mind allows you directly inject a bit of madness into normals.
