Think of the Gap as an ocean, albeit a small and scattered one, and the Other as a big mess of sharks that lives there. Jvan made the fish, so she knows them well, but they've grown big and strong and she can't always easily find them, or stop them from biting.

What she did in making Ovaedis is the equivalent of building a lighthouse on top of a maricultural fish farm in the middle of the water. From there she can see the whole ocean and its contents much better, and even take out what she wants, fatten it up and harvest it, but she still doesn't control the wild fish. She's probably learned a lot more about them in the process, though.

Claiming Geometry will be the extended metaphorical version of buying reinforced scuba gear.
