GREEN ARROW

| IDENTITY: |
  • Oliver Jonas Queen
  • Green Arrow

| ALIGNMENT: |
Neutral Good

| AFFILIATION: |
Team Arrow

| HISTORY: |
Oliver Queen was born into privilege in the year of 1981 to billionaire philanthropist Robert Queen and his wife, Moira, in Star City, California. The scion of Queen Industries, his father’s multi-billion dollar conglomerate, Oliver grew up enjoying much of the perks afforded to him by his family’s considerable wealth.

He took up an interest in archery at an early age, spurred on by a delighted Robert, who began teaching Oliver whenever he could, also hiring the best teacher money could buy. Oliver attended Brentwood Academy alongside his best friend, Thomas Merlyn. As he entered high school his parents enrolled him at Excelsior Academy, one of the top boarding schools in the United States, where he attended classes alongside the likes of Tommy, Bruce Wayne and Anthony Stark. However, by the age of fifteen he was no longer as academically inclined as his peers, deserting archery for girls, partying and irresponsibility, much to his parents’ dismay, and to Tommy’s joy. It was around this time that he began seeing more of Simon Lacroix, one of his father’s employees a few years his senior.

In the year of 2000, Oliver broke up with his then girlfriend, Sandra Hawke, after finding out that she was pregnant. Unready to be a father, he sent two million dollars to her new home in San Francisco.

Four years later, Robert had enough. Having witnessed his son’s shameful behaviour as a young adult, he sent Oliver to a Queen Industries oil rig in the North China Sea, assigning him to clerical work. Oliver, always the wild socialite, was quick to turn the rig into a party site. Such a party saw his fall from grace as oil-thieving terrorists attacked the rig, intending to take it over. Armed with a bow he’d used to entertain partygoers, Oliver resolved to confront the terrorist leader, believing himself capable enough to defuse the situation. However, a shot that managed to knock a detonator from the terrorist’s hands also managed to detonate the explosives they’d set, blowing up half of the rig and killing most of its inhabitants, including Tommy. Flung into the cold seawater with nothing but his bow, Oliver washes up on the shore of Lian Yu, a deserted island with seemingly no other occupants.

Oliver arrived at his purgatory. The four years he spent there would transform him from an irresponsible playboy into someone else… They would transform him into something else.

They would transform him into… the Green Arrow.

| SUPPORTING CAST: |
Team Arrow

Hal Jordan/Green Lantern | An honorary member of Team Arrow, Hal and Ollie met while chasing leads on a possible alien weapons trade in Star City. They have since become close friends, the best of friends, even, and maintain contact even given the demanding particulars of their jobs.

John Diggle | Formerly of the Green Berets, Diggle is a retired police sergeant and Oliver’s right-hand man. Having started out as Ollie’s informant within the SCPD, Diggle left the police force in order to play a larger part in his crusade. He now works as Oliver’s “bodyguard” and “security advisor”, both well-paying covers for his real occupation.

Dinah Laurel Lance/Black Canary | A fellow vigilante and Ollie’s ex-girlfriend, Dinah is widely regarded as one of the world’s best martial artists. The two met during a night spent fighting crime, and have since been deeply in love. However, it perhaps wasn’t as strong as they thought, as Ollie cheated on her two years into their relationship with Felicity Smoak. That said, it’s a miracle that she didn’t kick Oliver’s ass when she found out. She currently resides in Gotham.

Roy Harper/Arsenal | Oliver’s first ward, Roy was an archery aficionado long before he met his mentor. Living on the tough streets of the Glades, when he heard of the Moira Queen Home for Homeless Youths he was quick to make his way there (once he made sure his pride wasn’t hurt). He’s proven to be a valuable member of Team Arrow, and currently spends his days juggling his time between fatherhood and Team Arrow. Formerly under the alias of Speedy.

Connor Hawke/Red Arrow | Oliver’s son, he met his father for the first time at the age of thirteen while residing at an ashram monastery in Napa Valley. His mother, Sandra, sent him there at his request, thinking that he wanted to find himself when he really just wanted to get away from his stepfather, Milo Armitage. He worked with his father as Red Arrow for a short amount of time before the assassin, Onomatopoeia, nearly killed him. Banned from vigilantism in order to protect him, Connor reluctantly conforms to Ollie’s wishes, wanting to help but unwilling to disobey him. He grudgingly accepts his father’s reasoning for allowing Mia to go out into the field, but is nonetheless bitter about it.

Mia Dearden/Speedy | Oliver’s adopted daughter, Mia was forced into prostitution by her father before she ran away from home. She lived on the streets before being taken in by a young man by the name of Richard, who, in exchange for clothing, food and shelter, found ways to exploit her for his own gain, often acting as her pimp. After being rescued by Green Arrow from a particularly eager councilman, Mia started to see Richard from who he really is and left, searching for the Moira Queen Home for Homeless Youth, where she was taken in by Oliver Queen himself, and adopted as his daughter once they heard of her father’s death. After being diagnosed as HIV positive, she convinced Oliver to let her help him as Speedy, much to Connor’s chagrin.

Felicity Smoak | Formerly of the Q-Core IT department, Felicity became a part of Team Arrow when Oliver sought her help to track down the supplier of Vertigo. She proved to be invaluable to the team until the night both she and Ollie regret, after which she left the team, ashamed and seeking a more familiar environment. She currently works at Kord Industries.

Henry Fyff | Felicity’s replacement and employee at Q-Core, Henry also happened to have had a massive crush on her prior to her transferral to Kord. His awkward advances mistaken for stalker-like tendencies, Ollie fired him personally, concerned about Felicity’s safety but also sad to have to let such a brilliant mind go. Instead of finding another job, Henry settled for working at his mother’s Chinese takeout restaurant until Oliver came and rehired him, with a bonus: he gets to work with the Green Arrow. During his time on Team Arrow, he’s proven to be just as skilled, and invaluable, as Felicity was.

George the Arrowhound | Part huskie, part wolf, George was forced into the dogfighting underworld, made to fight and kill dogs born and bred for only one thing: senseless slaughter. Rescued by Oliver, his new owner nursed him back to health, and George soon became Team Arrow’s fearsome yet loveable mascot.

Civilians

Robert Queen | The founder of Queen Industries, Robert was a ruthless businessman, a quality which insured his company’s success. Despite this he was a loving father, only wanting the best for Oliver. When he found out that his son shared his love for archery, he was ecstatic, eager to have Ollie learn from only the best. But when Oliver started to drift away from the bow and quiver, opting instead to take up recreational drug use and relentless partying, Robert found himself incredibly disappointed with both his son and himself. And while he only wanted the best for Ollie, the same could not be said about his behaviour towards his wife. While yes, he loved Moira, he often let lust and desire overcome him, and so he had many affairs to his name – affairs that his wife chose to remain ignorant of.

In 2005, the media went insane with coverage of Robert’s death, reporting of a helicopter crash that took his life in the Himalayas.

Moira Queen | Oliver’s mother and wife to Robert, Moira was a loving parent and devoted wife. Unlike her husband, who was known in the corporate world for his ruthlessness, Moira was a kind, nurturing soul, using her wealth to help those in need in whichever way she could. Her charity work earned her love and respect not just in Star City, but in many cities throughout the States, even going as far as Gotham, where her work in the Narrows made her name synonymous with that of the Waynes.

Moira passed away from cancer in 2010, her son at her bedside.

Walter Steele | Robert’s best friend and former CFO of Queen Industries, Walter now runs the company following his friend’s death. Frustrated at Oliver’s continued irresponsibility, he gave him control over Queen Industries’ subsidiary, Q-Core, hoping that having to run it will prepare him for taking over the company. But this didn’t seem to remedy Ollie’s continuous absences, and Walter is at a loss of what to do.

Master Jansen | A monk residing in the ashram monastery in Napa Valley, Master Jansen was the one who taught Oliver and Connor the way of the Buddha, and the latter the art of aikido and Kyudo archery.

Rogues

James MacGowan | Head of Star City’s Irish mob, Jimmy MacGowan has control over the entirety of Downtown, content with the territory he owns, not bothered to make a play against any of his competitors. In the past he was involved in a deal between himself and Brick, something that would have guaranteed his place in the new criminal hierarchy. He only made such a deal to save his own behind, however – so when Green Arrow took down Brick and his empire, MacGowan didn’t see an enemy – he saw a potential asset. As long as the Emerald Archer keeps out of his hair and takes care of the other criminal organisations, then MacGowan has no quarrel with him. He is currently the most powerful of mob bosses in Star City.

Daniel “Brick” Brickwell | Born and raised in the Glades, Danny Brickwell always had big ambitions. Starting his criminal career as a mere gangbanger, Brick saw his chance when Ricardo Diaz’s empire came tumbling down, leaving a massive power vacuum where it once was. Uniting numerous street gangs, his syndicate became an overnight criminal superpower, feared by crooks and authorities alike. The only one who dared to challenge him was Green Arrow – and when Brick found out that he and Oliver Queen were one and the same, he was determined to make him pay. Kidnapping Moira Queen, Brick planned to kill her as Oliver watched, but the ensuing fight didn’t seem to favour him. Brick is now presumed dead.

Malcolm Merlyn/The Dark Archer | Malcolm Merlyn was once the CEO of Merlyn Global Group, an international corporation that was considered Queen Industries’ toughest competitor. He was also one of Robert Queen’s closest friends, a stark contrast to their companies’ hostile natures. Following Robert’s death in 2005, Malcolm left Star City for four years, leaving his company in the hands of fellow businessman, Jakob Whorrsman. He resurfaced as the assassin, the Dark Archer, clashing with Green Arrow multiple times. His identity is known to Oliver.

Carrie Cutter/Cupid | A former police officer for the SCPD, Carrie was discharged after developing an obsession for her partner. Her sick brand of love going unsated, she visited her ex-partner’s home, aiming to kill him, and Green Arrow, mistaking the scene for a husband abusing his wife, shot an arrow at the man, “rescuing” Carrie. From then onwards, her fixation shifted to the Emerald Archer, leading to a murderous rampage in which she tried to show her devotion to her new love. After murdering Triad leader Jin Fang, along with many other high profile figures in Star City’s underworld, her killing spree was finally put to an end by Green Arrow. She is currently incarcerated in Belle Reve Penitentiary.

Werner Zytle/Count Vertigo | The king of a small Eastern European country, Vlatava, Zytle travelled a long and bloody road on his way to leadership. Funded by an international drug smuggling operation, trading Vertigo, a drug he developed, Zytle maintained Vlatava as a relatively wealthy European nation – but his empire came crumbling down when Green Arrow caught wind of his operation in Star City. Mounting a raid on Zytle’s Vlatavan compound, Team Arrow brought an end to the Count’s drug trade. Three years later, Zytle got his revenge on Green Arrow, managing to capture him – only to be defeated by his partner, Red Arrow.

Red Dart | A serial bank robber employing trick darts instead of arrows, her brief stint in Star City was brought to an end by Speedy. She’s recently expanded her repertoire into mercenary work.

Constantine Drakon | An international assassin, it is said that Drakon is second to only Deathstroke the Terminator in their line of work.

Onomatopoeia | An assassin targeting non-powered vigilantes, Onomatopoeia clashed with Green and Red Arrow, hospitalising the latter after shooting him through the subscapular artery. Bringing forth the Emerald Archer’s rage, he barely escaped, vanishing into the night.

Simon Lacroix | Born into poverty and growing up on the streets, Simon Lacroix is effectively the anti-Ollie Queen. Fighting to keep himself afloat since an early age, his hard work earnt him the attention of Robert Queen at the age of eighteen. Made Robert’s protégé, he was taught everything his mentor knew about the business world; everything he needed to kick-start his own international conglomerate: Stellmoor International.

Isabel Rochev/The Queen | Native to a mountainside village in Siberia, Isabel Rochev became enamoured with Robert Queen after he visited her home, where she worked laboriously in a diamond mine; the village’s primary source of income. An attractive young woman at half Robert’s age, she managed to land a job as his assistant, and quickly began an extramarital affair with her idol. After her job was terminated without notice, she didn’t blame Robert, who fired her, but the wider Queen family: his wife, Moira, and his son, Oliver, believing them to be a stain on his mind, skewing his judgement. She now works at Stellmoor International alongside Simon Lacroix.

Big Game | A mercenary hailing from Africa, Big Game hunted Green Arrow for his own personal enjoyment. Defeated by both the former and his partner, Speedy, he hasn’t set foot in Star City since.

Edward Fyers | The leader of a large mercenary group, Eddie Fyers ran into Green Arrow when he was hired by Count Vertigo to lure him into a trap. When Zytle’s plan backfired, Fyers and his team were quick to leave Star City, leaving no trace for the Emerald Archer to follow.

Ricardo Diaz Jr./Richard Dragon | The son of former mob boss, Ricardo Diaz, Diaz Jr. was witness to the fall of his father’s criminal empire at the hands of Green Arrow. Disbelieving that such a powerful man could be dethroned by a guy with a gimmick, Ricardo left Star City, travelling the world to train under some of the greatest martial artists ever known. He vowed to return to Star City, and remake his father’s empire into the most powerful one in the States.

Natas | An international assassin, Natas was originally hired by the deceased crime lord China White to kill Oliver during his third year on Lian Yu. Admiring Ollie’s resolve, he instead chose to teach him martial arts, honing the billionaire’s body into a weapon. However, when Oliver refused to deal China the killing blow in a skirmish, nearly all respect Natas had for him faded. Leaving him broken and bloodied on the island, Natas left for civilisation, returning to the profession he was so good at. He entered into Oliver’s life once more in 2011, but this time in the shadows. Paid a sum he couldn’t refuse, Natas revealed Green Arrow’s identity to Brick, effectively endangering the lives of all Oliver held dear. To his credit, he refused to assassinate his former student, leaving Star City nearly as soon as he got there. His whereabouts are unknown.

Slade Wilson/Deathstroke | Once a soldier, Slade Wilson took part in a biological augmentation program that allowed him to surpass human limits. He is now feared as one of the deadliest assassins in the world. REQUIRES PERMISSION FROM @FacePunch

Prometheus | ???

| DIFFERENCE FROM SOURCE MATERIAL: |
I’ve mixed and merged elements of Ollie’s Pre-Flashpoint, New 52 and Arrow incarnations according to my whims, constructing a much more in-depth backstory that I’ve decided to spare everyone from. Other than that, this is largely the Green Arrow we all knew back in his van-dyking days, albeit with a New 52-ish twist.

The New Frontier: DC/Marvel One Universe RP application:

Alexander “Lex” Luthor, Jr.
Neutral Evil.
Justice League of America, LexCorp.

"The point is, ladies and gentleman, that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right, greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind." -- Gordon Gekko.

History:

Lex Luthor was the most powerful man in America, more powerful even than the President some would have you believe, until he arrived. Superman. The caped wonder that had saved Robert Kelly’s life and declared America’s Mutant Registration Act as unjust and in contradiction to America’s proud history of tolerance and acceptance. In that moment Lex knew he had to tame the Superman or destroy him and set into motion the events would lead to the creation of the Justice League of America. After Superman rejected a personal invitation from Lex himself to lead the JLA and answer to him personally, Luthor spent millions unearthing superheroes of his own that might eclipse Superman in America’s hearts. In Captain America and Thor he found the leadership and strength that the Justice League needed. Within months, Luthor’s new Justice League was the talk of the town and Superman had found himself on the outside looking in.

Several years have passed since the formation of the Justice League and more and more Lex finds his hatred for Superman waning. He lusts for a confrontation with the so-called Superman, for his Justice League to humble him, but at the back of his mind Luthor has acquired a begrudging enjoyment of the adoration his Justice League has earned him. Once hated, treated with suspicion, Luthor is finally popular and a part of him fears that his charade, already extended much longer than he initially tended, might be permanent.

Supporting Cast:

Captain America – Steve Rogers leads Luthor’s Justice League of America. The two men have worked closely in recent years and have developed a friendly relationship – Lex is taken aback by the Super Soldier’s intelligence, having at first considered him a dolt, and often turns to Rogers for advice. From the outside some might even consider Rogers to be a good influence on Lex.

Thor – The powerhouse of Luthor’s Justice League of America. Thor is fiercely loyal to Lex. LexCorp scientists discovered Mjolnir in New Mexico and helped Thor transition into life in Midgard. When not working with the Justice League or otherwise disposed, Thor works as Lex's personal bodyguard at some of the business meetings with his less savoury clients.

Black Widow - Black Widow handles the Justice League's dirty jobs. Her background and skills make her perfect for corporate espionage and Lex makes use of Natasha (to the benefit of LexCorp) in this regard often. Of all the members of the League she is the member Lex trusts the least but simultaneously has proven to be the most useful.

Amanda Waller - Director of SHIELD. Lex and the Justice League of America work with SHIELD often and despite her initial distrust of Lex and his methods she considers him to be a valuable asset in the fight against mutant terrorism. Lex has friends in powerful places that have helped Waller secure her place within SHIELD after Nick Fury's acrimonious resignation from the organisation.

Nick Fury - Former Director of SHIELD that resigned in disgrace after the disappearance of Reed Richards and his crew. Fury was deeply suspicious of Lex and had long tasked SHIELD to look into his activities, especially his business interests in places like Latveria and Kahndaq, so Fury's resignation came as welcome news to Lex. Luthor suspects the old war horse is still out there plotting against him despite the success of his Justice League.

Tony Stark - CEO of Stark Industries and one of Lex's lifelong rivals. Lex resents Tony for his having been born into privilege. Before Stark changed his stripes, he would treat Lex with disdain for having grown up in Suicide Slums and his insults have stayed with Lex to this day.

Bruce Banner - Former LexCorp employee that as a result of direct pressure placed onto him from Lex turned himself into the Hulk. Lex considers the Hulk's strength to have been "stolen" from him, considering the Hulk persona LexCorp technology given it was produced in his labs, and often sends the Justice League after the Hulk. Publicly his rationale is that the Hulk is dangerous - privately he covets the Hulk's immense strength.

How (if at all) does the New Frontier version of your character differ from the original?:

Up until the second Superman reveals himself to the world Lex is exactly the same as mainstream Lex. In the New Frontier universe the rejection he faces at Superman's hands leads him to form a super team of his own in order to outshine Superman. For the most part, given the Justice League's close cooperation with the government in the fight against mutant terrorists, he has achieved this goal. Perhaps his domination of Superman in this respect has made him complacent, sloppy even, and having worked beside Captain America he sometimes finds himself feeling... positively heroic. It's an impulse he's in denial about but one, I hope, that might make for interesting reading down the line.

Sample:

LexCorp Tower
Metropolis

Lex stood in the lobby of the Justice League’s headquarters in LexCorp Tower with a glass of whiskey in hand. It had been a long evening. The Wrecking Crew had attacked a bank in downtown Metropolis and taken nearly twenty hostages. Thor was in Asgard dealing with some so-called “unfinished business” and the Justice League had been shorthanded. Eventually Captain America and Black Widow had managed to get control of the situation and the Wrecking Crew were apprehended without major casualties. All the same Lex had been worried there for a minute. His team had yet to come up short but he was concerned what would happen when they did. He couldn’t afford the people of Metropolis turning to Superman in their hour of need.

The sound of feet scuffing along the marble floors alerted Lex to the presence of somebody else in the lobby and stood by the doorway was Steve Rogers. His cowl was down but his uniform was still on. The legendary red, white, and blue shield was slung over his back and for the first time since Lex had met the Captain he seemed tired.

“Lex,” Rogers asked as he wandered over to him. “Can I ask you a question?”

Lex smiled.

“Ask away, Captain.”

“Why do you hate him so much?”

Luthor knew straight away which him Rogers was talking about.

“I don’t hate him,” Luthor said as he took a mouthful of whiskey and grimaced. “I hate what he could be. He’s powerful enough that he could kill us all and we would be powerless to stop him. How is a person meant to feel safe sharing a world with someone – something – like that? How do you go to bed at night knowing you draw breath only because men like him allow it?”

“You could same the same of Thor,” Rogers said as his piercing blue eyes delved deep into Lex’s soul. “Or even the Flash.”

“You could,” Lex shrugged. “But Thor is a warrior, Captain, and the Flash is a superhero. Neither of them pretend to be anything more. This Man of Steel? This Superman? He thinks he’s a god amongst men. He holds himself up as an example to the world, looking down on all those that see the world differently than he does, without a care for whether he might be wrong. A man like that, super or not, is dangerous to us all.”

Luthor could see in the Captain’s eyes that he wasn’t wholly convinced. Only Thor truly shared Lex’s dislike for Superman but that seemed to be for entirely different reasons. Nonetheless Lex was sure that eventually time would vindicate him. All it would take was one very bad day and the Superman would do something that would make them all see that Lex was right. They’d thank him then, they’d hold him up as a prophet, and when his Justice League was sent to bring Superman in Luthor would be the one that slapped the chains on him. He’d make sure of that.

In the inside pocket of his suit Lex felt the buzz of a phone ringing and reached for it with a groan. He scanned the name on the screen and then looked to Rogers with a smile.

“Do you mind, Captain? I have to take this.”

Steve nodded.

“Of course.”

Lex watched as Captain America wandered out of the room and shut the doors behind him. He gave it several more seconds and wandered over to the lobby’s large windows before pressing the phone against his head.

“Victor,” Luthor smiled. “I presume you’re calling about the vibranium?”

Name: Jean Mallory Grey

Alignment: Lawful Good

Affiliation: X-Men

History:

Jean Grey's childhood was a fairytale, that ended with a nightmare you don't wake up from. Jean is the only child of Percy Grey and Matilda Jennings-Grey. The Greys trace their bloodline back to a Norman knight, and had been in Boston since the days of the Massachusetts colony. The Jennings of Irish descent that saw them become part of a new wave to power in more recent American history, related to Kennedys in ancestry and political agenda. Both Percy and Matilda grew up in the machinisms that is the New England traditional life of high society, with its class structures, rules and concepts of appropriate behavior.

And they both rebelled against it as they could until they found each other at Harvard, and rebellion became open dissent. For Percy that meant not using History as just an in to Law School, but actually wanting to pursue the life of an academic in the field. For Matilda it meant getting a job after graduating with no more than a Bachelor's in Biology. Refusing to use family connections, all Matilda found for work was that of a night shift nurse in a beaten down downtown Boston hospital. The couple moved into a small apartment in the city, and spend their time together sipping wine from plastic cups. Far from lavish, but they were happy.

The cycle of life would change that. Matilda lost her father, uncle, and a brother within the span of two years. Two to old age, one to drug addiction. While she would be okay, when the dust settled the family lawyers revealed her inheritance. Roughly at the same time, Matilda revealed to Percy that she was pregnant. It took Percy all of four minutes to go from finding out he would be a father, to announcing they would have to move. The couple agreed Matilda would quit her job, for now, and Percy would finally begin talking to schools outside of the Ivy League that had been offering him jobs for years.

Nine months later Matilda gave birth to a girl the couple named Jean Mallory: Jean after Percy's grandmother, Mallory after Matilda's favorite aunt. The day she was born was a bright pretty spring day, with a horrible storm that night. Matilda recounts having fever dreams that night, and remembering of them only stars and a star fire that spoke to her in tongues Matilda couldn't understand. Matilda had the first of many 'Phoenix' dreams that night, and though it was her last Jean would continue to have them for the remainder of her life. While she was young they were nightmares that never went away, dark scenes and darker tones that were the only cloud in an otherwise cloudless life of happiness and love.

Her father became a respected professor of History and later Dean. Her mother would go on to be a hospital executive, the representative for nurses and other lower scale health workers at the very hospital she once worked the night shift as an ER nurse for. Jean spent her time between Boston and Cape Cod; the Red Sox and the boardwalks, even becoming the very thing that brought her parents and their families back together on good terms with her cotillion and work with the DAR. Life was all but perfect when Jean was twelve, a passenger in a car with Abby, driven by Abby's older sister and her best friend. Jean still doesn't remember the accident. Police reports say the car swerved to avoid something, and flipped. A lot.

Jean remembers Abby dying; except she remembers it from Abby's point of view. She remembers holding Abby as the girl died in her arms, though police reports say that was impossible, as Jean was unconscious when they arrived. Jean even remembers dying, and hearing a voice that cracked and popped like a raging fire telling her to let go of Abby in the darkness: that if she stayed with Abby's mind too long, too far into death, it would be dangerous.

When her parents brought her to Xavier, Charles claimed the voice was just a manifestation of her own natural abilities. That if it were real, he would sense it in Jean's mind, and in her memories. But the bird of fire still appears in Jean's dreams, though it's never spoken to her since the accident. Charles believes this to be because Jean's training has come far. She has fought alongside her fellow X-Men against many foes, and took her place side by side with them and other heroes against the Brotherhood.

Losing one of their own during that battle shook every remaining member of the original X-Men that day. Jean saw the true stakes at hand; it wasn't just good and evil, it was life and death. Doing the right thing, fighting for Xavier's dream...there would be a price for it. There would be a price for all of it. Just as Abby and Jean's mutant powers had been her price to pay for such an otherwise happy life. Jean was close to Warren, they were from similar backgrounds, they could relate to each other in ways the rest of the team never could, and more importantly they were friends.

Losing a teammate she was so close to has changed Jean Grey forever, just as Abby's death changed her once. Jean has rededicated herself to her training, and has increased her attention to other metahumans around the world. Not only does she continue to be a spokeswoman for Xavier and his dream, as well as the most searched for X-Men according to Google, but she has begun to make inroads throughout the superhero community.

Supporting Cast:

Abby Alcott - BFF, sister from another mother, soulmate, partner in crime, keeper of secrets and crushes; there was nearly nothing in Jean Grey's world that Abby Alcott was not to Jean. The two girls came from similar backgrounds, had parents that were friends since college, and considered the other's homes to be secondary residences. Although she died much too young, for more reasons than simply telepathy, Abby will be with Jean forever. This is the relationship that defines Jean Grey as a human being. The reason she will never give up on humanity.

Charles Xavier - A fact very few people know: Charles Xavier is saved into Jean's phone as "Uncle Chuck." The image used for "Uncle Chuck" is a red faced, likely intoxicated, Xavier making a face close up to camera. There is a chance it is the only such image that exists of Charles Xavier to date, but for two people that have had a hard time adjusting, it represents the very nature of their relationship--he is the person who reminds her how to smile, she is the person who reminds him how to smile. Their friendship is unending, their link far beyond what any normal mind could comprehend, and they just so happen to share a dream worth fighting for.

Scott Summers - The break-up that came like a storm in the night. On their darkest day, in their worst hour, it seemed every word between them was lightning strikes and thunderbolts to Jean. He was angry, jealous, and she was angry, exhausted. It was a bad mix. There was no cooling off. Though friendship remains, it's still at times tense with Scott for her. They remain very very close, and there are moments it's like they never broke up...but they did. And it's never long before they remember it. Both have moved on, though Jean has yet to be seen seeing someone.

How (if at all) does the New Frontier version of your character differ from the original?:

From a wealthy New England family, distantly related to the Kennedys. Outgrew her romance with Scott. Has been getting Phoenix visions her entire life, even before the manifestation of mutant powers.

New Frontier: DC/Marvel One Universe RP application:

Scott Summers - Cyclops
Neutral Good.
It’s Complicated.

"Poor little Scott Summers— the boy most likely to have a nervous breakdown— prepared his whole life to lead an army by everyone he ever knew and trusted. And then it's time to grow up and lead and— and it's an awkward fit on him, sometimes. "
--Emma Frost.

History:
Scott Summer’s was born on an operating table left behind from the Second World War within Joint Base Elmendorf–Richardson up in Alaska, a few miles outside of Anchorage. He was the oldest son of Katherine Summers, doctor and Major Christopher Summers a pilot in the United States Air Force. The first ten years of his life where considerable normal even pleasant by most standards, though even at a young age Scott had trouble getting along with his peers as his father was positioned from base to base making it hard for him to make friends and even more so maintaining them. Rather Scott grew very close to his younger brother Alex, the two of them relying heavily on one another Alex especially as Scott spend most of his days protecting him from bullies, getting into more trouble at School much to the dismay of his parents. After one particular bad incident when he broke the clavicle and left arm of another child one Lawrence Crock, star athlete of the school they were in and nearly eight years older than Scott at the time who had given Alex a black eye earlier that day for stepping on his new shoes. Due to this Major Summers came up with an idea to take the family on an accident retreat on a ‘family vacation’ so that all of them could bond and Scott could maybe calm down a little bit. But while Major Summers was flying them home in his personal pride and joy an old Hopfner HA-11/33 Seaplane.

Something happened in the sky that day, and whatever it was on a clear and perfect day that Hopfner came tumbling down through the sky alight with a raging fire. The fire had consumed all but one parachute which Scott’s parents give to him to use to save Alex and himself from immediate peril. Scott took his brother’s hand and jumped falling through the sky and coming crashing towards the earth. The latch on the parachute was stuck, Alex was screaming and crying. Scott didn't want to die, he couldn't die. Then it happened suddenly with a scream of frustration beams of flared from his eyes as his vision turned red. He lost consciousness soon afterwards but it was enough to slow down the Summer brother's descent into the blue expanse of the Pacific below them. It was Alex that managed to pull them both atop a piece of wreckage from the plane. They were found two days later by Search and Rescue, their parents were never found.

Scott awoke in the middle of the night the next day in a hospital in Queen Medical Center in Star City, it all seemed like a nightmare but then the doctors told him what happened and it all came crashing down. He couldn't control the anger the next time it happened, he felt the sharp pain in his head again and the terrible burning sensation and before he knew what was happening he had punched a hole straight through the roof of the hospital. Six people died and Scott quickly fell back into a deep sleep. He would awake a year later in the State Home for Foundlings a place where he was tested on by the sinister Nathaniel Essex. Essex placed mental blocks on Scott and took on the role of "Lefty", who was Scott's roommate and bullied him at the orphanage. Sinister intervened any time anyone came close to adopting Scott.

As a teenager Scott began to suffer from severe headaches and he was sent to a specialist , who provided him with lenses made of ruby-quartz. Soon after, Scott's mutant power erupted from his eyes once again after getting in a argument with Lefty. It ended up tearing a hole through the wall in the Home for Foundlings and he escaped running away into the night. Scott’s powers would continue to erupt in erratic bursts as he became a walking time bomb leaving only destruction and death in his wake. After spending a period of half a year under the tutelage of Jack Winters another mutant who became Scott’s adoptive father while using his powers to aid in his own crime sprees. It was then that Professor Xavier found him with the help of one Fred Duncan. Xavier and Duncan chased Winters and Scott back to Winter’s hideout and with Xavier’s help Scott was able to shake off the grip that his adoptive father had put on him and break the man of diamonds into floating shards.

From that point onward Scott became the ‘first X-Men’, the first of many young mutants to be taught under Professor Xavier. Xavier taught Scott how to at least control his powers enough so that a modified version of Essex’s ruby-quartz lenses could contain his powers. Slowly over time their little family grew and they did great things, they became a team. For a time Scott was even happy. But of course things couldn't stay that way things could never stay that way.

It was supposed to simple, they were supposed to stop the Brotherhood and things were going to go to normal. But it was never that simple, Warren was killed in the crossfire and Magento deflected one of Scott’s blasts into a nearby High School killing over fifty students within. The world was already against Mutants but at that moment the world decided that Cyclops was worse than any normal mutant. His friends tried to tell him that it wasn't his fault but he didn’t listen. He became more reckless, more foolhardy, more angry. He fought with Jean more about things that seemed stupid now and that fell apart as quickly as it began. In the End Scott Summers couldn't handle the pressure, the pressure of being the leader, the hero and Scott broke.

He left in the middle of the night two months after the incident. He tried to sneak out but of course Xavier was already waiting at the door. The Professor that had become yet another adoptive father for Scott did not stop his first student from leaving but only wished that he found what he was looking for and with that Scott vanished off the grid. He hasn’t been seen since.

///Redacted Information
-LEXCORP Intelligence Report /// /rs.100023451
A mysterious individual with impressive optical powers matching the description of one Scott Summers has been spotted in several small towns within Northern Canada and Alaska. Subject appears docile and aimless wandering from point to point without purpose. Recommended further investigation.

Supporting Cast:
Professor Charles Xavier:
Professor Xavier was Scott’s third and hopefully last father figure in his life and the only one that really stuck. Scott owes an unpayable debt to the man but not even that stop Scott from leaving the X-men behind. Before he left Scott and Xavier had been getting into more and more fights as of late as Scott’s more brash and hotheaded was leading him down a self-destructive path.

Jean Gray:
Jean was one of the first people to actually treat Scott like a human being and in return he fell head over halls for her slowly of course. But that was a long time ago and a lot can happen. They broke up in the aftermath of the incident, they were both tired and angry and so the fire raged. They got over it and the friendship remains and there were times afterwards that sparks flickered from the embers but only sparks and any kindling was long since drowned in sorrow. He didn't say goodbye before he left, he left a note if you can call a post-it with the words Sorry on her door, a note.

Piotr Rasputin:
Scott had many one on one talks with the groundskeeper of the School turned X-Man. They drank and they joked usually in large amounts together. Scott left a bottle of vodka on the desk in his office before he left, a small thank you note.

Alex Summers:
Scott's younger brother, has not been seen since the plane crash though Scott has a feeling he is out there somewhere.

Nathaniel Essex:
Better known as Mister Sinister the evil mastermind and genetics has always had an eye on Scott fascinated with the power that the boy possessed ever since he blew the roof off of that hospital all those years ago.

Emma Frost
A strange blond haired woman who has been haunting Scott during his sabbatical. Scott finds her terribly annoying. Though she seems to have taken a keen interest in Scott for reasons that are not yet known.

How (if at all) does the New Frontier version of your character differ from the original?:

Ah Cyclops, a man that embodies unattainable ideals: idealized love, idealized comradeship, selfless altruism in trying to serve the world. A man that is so often crushed beneath the weight of these ideals. I’ve always found the leaders to be the most interesting ones, the ones that when push comes to shove have to put their foot down and do what needs to be done in service of the world. To be a person like that you have to be a little bit narcissistic I think, be at least somewhat full of yourself. But at their best they are the pinnacle of humanity, of life as we know it and it their worst all the traits that make them strong and powerful are the ones that drag them down. It’s that dichotomy that I would like to explore.

Scott here is a little bit more broken than his other incarnations tired and broken over the deaths that he had caused and the deaths that he could not prevent. He is tired of the world placing its hopes and dreams upon his shoulders, he's tired of living basically. At the start he is an alcoholic in Alaska running away from his problems having not had communication with the X-men for months if not a few years by this point. If my Thanos story is about a general, a leader in his prime then Scott’s is the parallel to that he is basically still just a kid trying to figure out what being the leader means, having to learn to take responsibility and move forward. He’s going to figure it out maybe not quickly and maybe not easily but he is going to figure it out.

Name: Katherine “Kitty” Pryde/Shadowcat

Alignment: Neutral Good

Affiliation: The X-Men

History:

After Magneto’s attack on President Kelly, 15-year-old Katherine “Kitty” Pryde enrolled in Charles Xavier’s school for mutants. Before then, she had hidden her status as a mutant to escape the prejudice and government watch that it brought. But she feared for her mother’s safety, so she left to join others like her and finish her education in peace.

While there, Xavier took an interest in Pryde, seeing her as a potential member of his X-Men peacekeeping force. He also saw her dedication to the safety of her kind, and the great kindness in her heart.

Kitty took toe Xavier's school like a fish to water. Already showing great skill in the field of electronics and computers, Kitty enrolled in an early college program for computer engineering and computer programming, being taught first hand by the brilliant Hank McCoy. Kitty saw in Hank the father figure she never had growing up, and he was happy to be her mentor.

She also agreed with Xavier about joining the X-Men, and enrolled in the training sessions for the team. While there, she learned how to use her powers offensive and defensively, trained in hand-to-hand combat, and battle strategy. She quickly showed her metal, and when she came of age, Kitty Pryde, aka Shadowcat, became one of the new generation of X-Men.

Supporting Cast:

Charles Xavier: Charles is the leader of the X-Men, mentor to the students of the school, and ambassador for mutant kind. Charles personally recruited Kitty to the school and to the X-Men.

Hank McCoy/Beast: Though his outward appearance is that of a feral Beast, Hank McCoy is a gentle, intellectual mutant. Considered by many to be one of the smartest men alive, Hank is Kitty's mentor and teacher, as well as a member of the X-Men.

Bobby Drake/Iceman: Kitty's best friend at the Academy, Bobby has the mutant ability to freeze the air around him. While he is rumored to be one of the most powerful mutants in existence, Bobby fears his power, which holds him back slightly. Still, he is one of the newest members of the X-Men along with Kitty.

The X-Men: Scott Summers, Jean Grey, and Warren Worthington, along with the aforementioned Beast make up the core team of the X-Men. Kitty admires the lot, seeing them as the standard bearers for Mutant Kind.

How (if at all) does the New Frontier version of your character differ from the original?: None at all. Why mess with the best X-Men character?

| Name |
J'ohn J'onzz

| Alias |
John Jones, the Martian Manhunter

| Alignment |
Neutral Good

| Affiliation |
Unaffiliated

| History |
■ 1900 ■
J'ohn J'onzz is born to an average Martian family. To their delight, he displays all the desirable traits that a young Martian could have; telepathy, mass shifting and spectrum shifting. His parents are so proud of their child they name him 'Light to the light' in their language, a name that proclaims honour and justice for all. As he grows into a young man, J'ohn masters the many uses of the complex Martian physiology. He can shapeshift, send his mind outside his own body to contact the minds of others, affect physical objects with his mind, change his density to pass through solid matter and alter his appearance in the visible spectrum of light to become invisible. Some of these abilities are common place within the Martian populace but great self discipline and talent are required to master so many. Members of the populace who cannot even shapeshift, the most common ability, are referred to as mutants and shunned.

■ 1930 ■
A child named Saul Erdel is born on earth and J'ohn J'onzz begins his training to become a Manhunter on Mars, the Martian equivalent of a police officer. His training goes at a fast pace and he is soon a fully fledged Manhunter, using his superior mastery of his natural abilities to great effect when tracking and apprehending criminals.

■ 1950 ■
A Martian project is announced called 'Firebird'. The project's aim is to create a craft capable of ferrying Martians to the other planets in the solar system. J'ohn is now recognised as one of Mar's foremost Manhunters and has been bonded to a Martian named M'yri'ah. Saul Erdel is now a young man, studying Astro-physics and Quantum theory.

■ 1980 ■
J'ohn now has a child named K'hym, who seems to have inherited his gift for the manipulation of her physical form, far outstripping her class-mates with her skills at shapeshifting. Project Firebird is still underway and predicts that it will be operational inside fifty years. Saul Erdel has been a scientist for most of his life but is ostracised by the scientific community after claiming he could build a device to instantaneously transport interstellar matter to earth. Even after many years working on this project, he has made almost no progress but refuses to focus on anything else.

■ 2000 ■
J'ohn was in hot pursuit of a fugitive when he felt the world fade away from him, air twist in his lungs and suddenly he was a new place. It looked wrong, smelled wrong and felt wrong to the many senses he possessed that humans do not. In front of him, a humanoid with pink skin seemed as shocked at his arrival as J'ohn was to have arrived. As he watched, the man collapsed backwards onto the floor. In his mind, J'ohn felt the other creatures life pass away in a flash of vindication, shock and fear. Saul Erdel has died moments after seeing his great invention finally succeed.

■ 2005 ■
J'ohn has spent the intervening years slowly learning about humans, first without leaving the lab and then by adopting a human shape and venturing forth. He learned from television, the internet and by talking to humans but mostly with his telepathic powers. After much consideration, he decided the only sensible course of action is to wait until Project Firebrid is advanced enough to reach earth, no sooner than 2030, and then contact the ship and its crew. Given the longevity of his race, he has the time to wait. Until that day, he will simply have to live the best he can on earth. He adopts the name John Jones and joins the Metropolis Police Department, the similarity between his new role and his old job bringing some comfort. He desperately misses his family.

■ 2013 ■
J'ohn is one of the many heroes that step forward and battle against Magneto in his attempt on President Kelly's life. He joins forces with Superman and is both surprised and pleased to learn of another alien, far from home, on planet earth. After the battle, he talks with Superman a great deal, eventually revealing his alter ego, John Jones and is honoured when Superman in turn tells him he's normally called Clark Kent. More than allies, the two have become fast friends and J'ohn follows his friend's lead when it comes to declining membership in the JLA.

■ 2016 ■
J'ohn continues to serve law and order as MPD detective John Jones and help protect the human race as the Martian Manhunter. Although he misses Mars, M'yri'ah and K'hym with all his heart, his desire to do good will not let him rest while injustice thrives.

| Differences |
This version of J'ohn uses his original origin so the Martian race still exists but have not yet mastered space travel. I've also deliberately not mentioned White Martians and instead had the mutants on Mars be the ones with no special abilities, which will colour how J'ohn sees the situation on earth. He's also not a member of the Justice League or any other team and lives in Metropolis.
