It all began with one collision, one burst, the creation of everything.
And now, it seems like we have a chance to end it all

Basic Introduction

Welcome to Sollus Supremus (Sol-S for Short), the newest attempt at a space opera on the forum. Sol-S shall basically be an attempt at turning the Milky Way into a place divided into houses similar to Medieval Europe, but with different alien species and possibly some different alien religions. Sol-S will also involve a UN-type of council where the leaders of all nations who decide to go shall meet on a planet decided by the person calling together the council to meet (I haven't decided on a name for the council so if any of you have ideas that would be appreciated)
Rules

1: Don't be a douche
2: No BDO's
3: No going outside of the Milky Way
4: No objects allowing you to go through an object.
5: No Time Travel
6: I can add more rules if needed
7: Character Based, stats do not matter
Technology Description

FTL has been fully achieved by all of the nations across the galaxy, making travel quick between areas. The way that FTL shall be created for your nation is up to you. If you want, you can create Worm-Holes to travel across the galaxy, or you could just use the generic FTL drive. As stated in the rules, I am not allowing BDO's. If you do not know BDO stands for Big Dumb Object (Something like the Death Star in Star Wars). A BDO is basically just some object that can go and around insta-destroying planets and is only created to be destroyed. The reason why I don't want this to be used is because I feel like it would limit the RP story wise and it would just turn this into who can create the biggest thing to be destroyed.

Muchly interested. A question on the BDO's though. Are you against any form of megastructure or vessel or just ones that exist to be the lazy plot device of the spooky nigh-unkillable doomsday machine? Would massive city-ships like Eldar Craftworlda from 40k be okay as their main purpose isn't to go around blasting planets and whatnot? Not a big deal to me either way just curious.

Still interested. But what is the plot/conflict? I'm not familiar with the NRP concept here on these forums-it seems to be a bunch of different characters that one person plays as?

Yes, I am fine with Mega structures that are not just lazy plot devices.
So things similar to what you mentioned are okay, but things like the Death Star or Starkiller base are not okay.

Right off their won't be any major plot/conflict. This will most likely change by the 3rd or 4th post when one of these things typically happen.
A. Someone Sets themselves up as the Big Bad Nation of the RP with some cruel ruler.
B. Someone talks about major unrest in their nation
C. Someone threatens war with another Nation
D. Someone just randomly declares war on someone.

dibs on being a villain? I'm kind of liking how that outer amr there looks, think I'll stake my claim there.

What are the resources to quarrel over? Seems like that's a major point of historical feudal conflict (and the Dune movie)

That's going to be me right off the bat. Very messy revolution.

What they said. A nice green rock or prescience inducing spice that can only be found in a few places goes a long way towards making the feudal hierarchy work galaxy-wide in an otherwise post-scarcity setting.

Yes, but is this a post-scarcity setting? Shouldn't it be an Emperor and not a United Nations? I think I'm missing something...

@Commodore RobotIf there's nothing decided yet, I'd recommend something unique rather than a rehash of melange. An idea could be to have a massively profitable silk-road. The object of trade could be materials necessary for the construction of god-computers, or something.

@PolybiusConsidering the fact we're feudal and this is space opera, I'm going to assume that this is not post-scarcity.

I do think a landsraad type deal would be coolest, though.

Hey there, I'd be rather interested in this, provided there are of course still spaces available.

@Fabulous Knight@Polybius

While the argument can be pretty easily made that anyone who can lay claim to the resources of multiple stars should probably be post scarcity(being an engineering/physics student I tend to make that argument a lot but I like space opera and can keep my work and likes sepperate) but I didn't mean to imply this setting necessarily was post scarcity(I don't know if it is or not), just that in sci-fi setting in general having your one thing that can't be replicated or is only found in a couple places helps a lot to base a big feudal system around. Especially if that thing happens to be what makes FTL work or something.

I mean Dune-like as in its Feudal Space. No One Emperor rules over all of the Galaxy.
Also, this is not through some scarcity on a Galaxy wide scale, though if your nation (or anyone who else makes a nation for that matter) wants to have a resource scarcity as a plot point for them then I'd be fine with it.

@MetalLover

Thanks mate, I'm currently deciding on what species I'd be, but would something similar to a warlike but otherwise poorly developed race be viable? Thinking something akin to a backwards but individually intimidating people that, while having working tech, do not have the same level of tech as the rest of the races, perhaps.
Though of course, up to you, otherwise thanks for having me in!

I'm fine with almost anything as long as it isn't overpowered.

Oh, so we don't end up making nations that are similar -- my nation's going to be a cross between the Polish Commonwealth, Ottoman Empire and Hussites/German Peasants Revolt.

Quick run-down: The not!Ottoman Empire enslaved many peoples but employed some of them as their bureaucrats. Eventually (due to reasons) civil war broke out between the young nobility (who wanted control for themselves) and the old guard supporters of the not!Sultan (predominantly slaves). Slaves (and peasant not!Ottomans) took advantage of this to revolt themselves.

There's now a great deal of tension between the two main factions: young noble democrats (backed by much of the not!Ottoman peasantry), and the proto-communist freemen military (backed by the freed slaves and the not!Ottoman peasantry). They'll have a lot of military potential -- but be in a state of great confusion.

I was thinking more towards a country similar to slightly Pre-Soviet Russia, with a weak overlord and rowdy local nobility. Then, the nation would change, gaining a far stronger government and placating the local nobility (though in all likelihood they will not be royals - I'll be frank, I'm going for something a little like space communism)
