Roger scowled at Lorenzo's words. Yeah, it sure is easy to high horse when you give out vaguely-worded orders and then get to call out others on misinterpreting them. Fucking asshole. In any case, at least it was good to know that he wouldn't have to worry about teammates attacking him or any other shit like that. Besides, they were likely to suffer similar setbacks against the Cruxi. Actual combat experience with Yeager, learning how his Framewerk syncs up with everyone else's, this suited him just fine.

Yeager went out into the field, a bright white soldier, ready to do battle. Its paint job would allow it to hide rather effectively in snowy climates, areas with lots of light and among clouds, but right here, it stuck out like a sore thumb. No matter, if he activated its Primary systems, all they would see is a white glint.

"Thank you very much, lady." Roger replied, giving his copy of the map a brief scan. Not great for Team Sigma, but doable.

"So you want us to engage in guerrilla warfare? Works for me. I'll go in ahead and help scout out the area." Roger barely touched the Overboosters, turn it on for just a split second to get an explosive start to the boost, it was something he'd been practicing any chance he got, and was the only way he could really utilize them right now. Just the lightest of touches to reach top acceleration for the "normal" thrusters near instantly. Roger and yeager moved into the Forest of Pillars.

Serah listened in to the other pilots reporting their status, sitting with her legs crossed and arms behind the head. For some reason the girl never left the global channel. Nothing too interesting came over the voice comms, except for Ariin trying to rile up everyone into not fighting again. "Let's just wait for our orders, erm... Paladin." was the girl's reply, still casually waiting for the moment of getting deployed. She didn't have to wait too long, scrambling into position when Lorenzo's voice could be heard. Sheesh, that guy gave her the creeps! He explained how the battle would be fought in two teams, with a separate series of cadets forming the opposing faction. Then some loud woman named Irina practically blasted off the bluenette's ears, from which she had to wince in pain. "Too loud...!" Serah affirmed herself, before standing ready. The hangar doors opened to reveal a dull, but large landscape which Serah had a few moments to take in. "Whoa..." she let out, and got really excited afterwards. This was going to be fun.

Though orders soon followed. The Mock Battle officially begun, and the girl made sure AA-XOTRY's thrusters worked their magic to fly out onto the field of battle. Around her, she could see all other framewerks in their full glory fly alongside Atty and take in how they looked. Some were close to her design, and others completely different. But all of them looked freakin' amazing! Serah felt a grin creep across her lips as she landed neatly on Atty's legs, having the machine crouch down just a tad to somewhat lessen the blow. Not that they needed it, but it looked cool anyway. "See? No reason to worry!" Serah spoke over the voice communication to everyone, hoping that they realize it was in reference to Ariin's concerns. Not too long after, Logic Gate sent over an incomplete scan of the area, giving the pilots a rough idea of where they were. Some people were already congratulating the girl piloting it, but Serah wasn't completely convinced yet. "Confirming I have the map, Logic Gate. Thanks." she said, though without any energy behind the words.

Before the girl could really think about the rest of it, Harold started to discuss strategy. "Sure!" Serah responded to his inquiry of putting something to work. The suggestion was to hide in the pillars, which would give them some sort of ambush potential. "Um, sure but-" Serah was about to chime into the plan, before Zim had cut her off. He seemed to go on ahead, and placed the suggestion for the girl fighting in the front lines. She wasn't against the notion, to be fair, but it also seemed a little risky with how little training Serah had. Well, it's not like she ever told the others... "Um... When you say left, all I see is a tower. But I think I copy what you mean, Rostosov. I dunno though, that tower seems awfully out of place. If the enemy gets that, I think they'd see us just fine. But I'll follow your orders for now." the teenager chimed in with her opinion. As if on cue, Eiswolf boosted itself up to the tower and Dynasty's pilot chiming in on that. She'd asked for either Atty or Black Star for support, but Serah didn't quite feel like she should follow those orders. The woman didn't come off as experienced as Harold. "Negative, Dynasty. Moving to pillar forest."

Serah moved her body alongside Atty, letting the framewerk sprint off to the pillars. She'd figured none of the opposing pilots would have vision of them just yet, so it was maybe not all that risky to make a bit of noise. She had Atty hold the energy blade like it was sheathed on its back, so that nothing would accidentally get sliced while the machine was running around. It seemed Black Star had a bit of issue with moving, which Serah was a little concerned about. They looked like they were struggling with their mech and moved like a snail. "Confirming arrival." Serah spoke over the communications, intent on letting her team know every single move the girl made. She wasn't experienced enough in combat to make her own choices yet, so she figured it was best to follow along with someone's orders right now. Unless they were stupid, anyway. The girl had her framewerk look around to find a suitable pillar, close enough to one of the edges, and decided to hide behind it for now. AA-XOTRY walked over and put its back against the pillar, now with the blade in front of their chest for an easy swing.

Sigma stood still, irresponsive. That voice. THAT GODDAMN VOICE. Her lips quivered, as she felt everything sinking down in her stomach, becoming a knot of lead. She wanted to crawl to safety, but she already was inside a framewerk in the thick of the action, for good or bad.

No no no no nope no no... Her mind stammered, as blood flushed away from her face. How arrogant had she been. Worst case scenario? Hah, that had been too naive. Lorenzo had surpassed every single expectation in that regard, with that one person.

Her laughter, her glare, her grin, her kick as she was sent sprawling in the floor with a broken arm.

"Goddamn doll."

She flailed, tears welling in the corners of her eyes. One step above being outright paralyzed by fear, but, deep inside, she endured. She had to. She was a servitor of humanity. And right now, the fellow pilots needed her. She was crying. She needed to stop. A waste of energy. There could be consequences.

She didn't care. Irina Spanova was bad news. She managed to hit the switches after her third attempt, as she managed to switch the team communication. A crude map was displayed. Elora. She had been mean to that kid, she thought. But still, she was responding, she was doing something. Unlike Sigma. Stupid Sigma.

"...no..." She pressed into the Intercom, hesitation and quivering in her voice making the word sound like a child's plea rather than a soldier. "...that...might...not..." She swallowed."Irina...Irina's the current ace of the framewerk program, not a cadet." She managed to scrape out of her mind, struggling even with mere words."My trainer." A sob. "Synch rate 88% and I can't even land a hit in her."

Keep talking, Sigma! She said to herself, as she finally managed to grit her teeth, slowly but surely weathering the shock. "She must be ...avoided... at all costs. She has both melee and range. And she'll be piloting a black mech with a sword and a rifle, called the Sköll." She paused. Her fear-clogged gears began to work and twist. Know your enemy. Know yourself.

"...but I might be able to divert her attention if the need arises. She hates me, and she'll attack me with little provocation." Sigma added. "However, the forest is suboptimal for me. The Eiswolf has a long range of movement but a sniper weapon, If I were to be most optimal I would have to take the tower."

She panned. "It would be wise to scout that area aswell, since it can give a big strategical edge to whomever reaches it first. I'm going there. If I run into trouble, I shall retreat into the Pillars."

Sigma mentally swallowed, as she started to ignite her special thruster. "I want strawberry cake after this... what a day..." She muttered, not realizing that due to her emotional distress, she had committed a newbie's mistake. Her still live cam showed all the blood returning to her face in a blush. "FUEEEEEH! THAT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BE-" She adding cutting communication, and raising herself at cruise speed towards the tower.

It was going to be tough, but she wasn't alone. She twirled in the air, like a skilled dogfighter as she approached the tower, weapon at the ready.

It's all or nothing.

"Oh, crap."

No other reaction might be suitable when it came to the realization that you and an accompaniment of cadets were going to be facing off against what was undoubtedly an ace pilot and whatever support she had. Lora's plan was toast before it even got out of the gate, and she knew that for a fact. If any of these people wanted the chance to nail down even one of their enemies in this live arena, then they needed to stick together and come up with a plan. Before Lora could begin to say anything, the green light was given, prompting the Framewerks of "Team Sigma" to launch.

As the huge doors of the hangar whirred up, inching apart to expose the lighting of the Solaire Ruin Arena, Lora revved up her Framewerk proper. The sound of roaring thrusters and deafening thunders of titanic footsteps shook anyone standing in the vicinity. Grunting, the pilot of Dynasty pushed open on the burners, having to wrangle the controls to get her desired effect. After a few preliminary steps from the hangar, the flight system engaged in full and began to carry Dynasty through the air at a brisk forward glide, the huge blaster cannons dragging on the earth marginally. Within moments, the various Frames were out on the open fields of Zone A, engaging their first actions. Logic Gate propelled itself to the upper reaches of the sky, sending back down a virtual map of the surrounding space immediate the fields.

"At this point, I am against the notion of splitting ourselves into smaller groups."

"No shit," Lora bleated back to Harold as she shoved the controls, quick to admit the flaw in her idea now that the real situation had been revealed. Curse Lorenzo and his pension for making everything into a damn puzzle. "We need to get all together and get a plan of attack going. A team formation may be harder to pin down and should be able to take on a few Frames at once."

It felt a bit strange, having to speak so much in battle now- and wanting to, in fact. So far, Lora had primarily understood that maintaining a Synchronization with a Framewerk required a certain level of concentration. Now that she was actually within a live combat situation, she found herself needing to divide her focus and help manage the team.

What, why? Help manage the team- What exactly made her so obligated to do that? Surely, Harold's words gave a good enough impression that he knew enough about squad tactics to lead everyone through this. And yet, Lora felt some responsibility in her hands regardless, as if she was the one that got them into this mess and so wanted to get everyone out in one piece. Or was it just some instinct as an older sister - or a survivor of war - to protect those she knew, even for a brief moment? Perhaps it went even deeper, into the territory of some subconscious grudge against Harold himself to which she would not be outdone.

Whatever the case, Lora had to decide what she wanted. Pour everything into her combat ability and trust everyone to do their part, or take charge and lead the group with her own brand of tactics? Considering her social status so far, Dynasty's pilot highly considered the former- only to recall the presence of the ace Framewerk pilot on the field, who Lora likely couldn't hope to hold a match to her fire. If this team wanted to do their best, they needed to be a team - and to do that, they needed someone to guide them.

Dynasty leaned over, shifting its flight path on one side to better face and direct the others as the pilot began to build upon the others' words. "They have more of them, yes, but that doesn't mean we have plenty of us. Safety in numbers, after all." Lora looked towards the people starting to head towards the Forest of Pillars and waved them down. "We need to stick together in a group and give us that benefit," she insisted, struggling to manage the throttle fully, "No point in attempting any sneak attacks if they have radar, and at least one of them should.

"Let's get moving and- Sigma, what're you doing-?" Lora was able to witness the strange pilot's machine suddenly careen off at high speed toward the great pillar in the center, indicated as the Tower of Power on Logic Gate's scan map. Oh, this wasn't going to end well for her, surely, even if she had the best intentions.

"Okay, alright-... Eiswolf, go ahead and secure the tower. Atty, Black Star- one of you should go support her. Everyone else, get together in the pillars- We'll make our stand there, like Harold said," Lora tried to set down her plan as quickly and cleanly as she could afford over the team broadband, pulling her machine over to head into the landscape swarmed with the giant towers. "Logic Gate, can you watch your feeds and alert us to incoming hostiles? We'll be headed into Zones B and G.

"Everyone got that? Let's go!" She finished off with no wait for a response, and then pushed on her throttle to send Dynasty into the maze of pillars in Zone B, arms tucked to hold the blaster cannons at the ready for whatever approached her...

Harol's laugh was loud after Sigma had made that statement about strawberry cake. He sat more or less comfortably within the heart of the Rostosov, whose gargantuan feet continued to make conspicuous craters on the ground. The Forest of Pillars was still some distance away when Sigma, among others, volunteered to take up a scouting role, headed towards that massive pillar at the center of the battlefield. Initiative was good, but there was a characteristic among his comrades' battle chatter: nobody knew who was calling the shots. There was no officer in charge. And this was reflected in the lack of unit cohesion as Team Sigma mostly tried to get to Zone B. Roger and his mech Yeager's overboost, as much as it was an impressive display, it also made him frown a bit.

"Alright Eiswolf," he said, voice still having traces of mirth, "you have my blessing. Give 'em hell. I hope you'll join us later among the Pillars. I trust you more than enough to retreat when they focus fire on you."

"And Miss Shinkai," he then began, and he only remembered Lora's last name because it was there in clear, bold letters on his display. "I perfectly agree with what you just said." Mostly since it was what he had said, only dissing the ambush part, though he wouldn't say it right now for diplomatic reasons. "Yeah, nevermind that ambush part. With mechs the size of these, I, uh, don't think that's possible. As for our formation, I am suggesting this:"

He ahem'ed. Hopefully it would be enough to catch everyone's attention.

"I want everyone with ranged weaponry at the edge of the Pillars, and everyone without them further within. The moment we see the bastards close enough, we open up on them. Use the pillars for cover. I want a kilometer or more of spacing between each unit. My mech Rostosov and Ariin's Paladin should take the center since we are the most heavily armored."

He paused for a moment to let that sink in. Harold absolutely hated the fact that he wasn't issuing orders regardless of his stern manner of speaking, but simply requesting that his squadmates do as he said. Authority was split among who spoke the loudest in the group, and it was completely up to the kids to say 'yes' or 'no.' Divided command? Harold chuckled. More like no command at all!

"In the event that they overwhelm us, we retreat deeper within the pillars. Melee Frames can shine here, but the narrow combat width will work against us just as for us. I know some of you guys are ahead of me - if you can scout the place and find a clearing which we could possibly turn into a killzone, let all of us know. If we can't defeat them at the outset of the engagement, we can destroy them there."

"That sound good, fellow Cadets?"

"I'll meet you all at the tower, I'll drop my shield and draw some fire. See if I can pick off any of them, if anyone needs help just say when. Oh and good work Elora." He said on the open comm as he started move into position in front of the pillars. In truth had planned to just take position in front of the others anyway. As he began to move he heard Sigma over the radio, she sounded like one of sisters after a horror movie. He did wonder if that ace had to be defeated for them to win? It couldn't have seriously meant for their rag tag team to defeat the ace of the program.

He heard Sigma grumble something about strawberry cake, he almost laughed. As moved to join the unit, getting out in front of the other, he sent her a quick message. "I'll make you a whole strawberry cake when this is over, lets just try not to die so I can alright? Thanks for the warning Sigma, I probably would have charged right at the bitch otherwise saved my bacon there!" He told her, in truth he did this not because he wanted to be nice but because he wanted them to bond as a team, didn't matter who the leader was he just wanted the people he worked with to trust him because if they trusted him he could trust them in return.

He fell in beside Lora and Harold, he decided to swap his comm over to a squad channel. Speaking to just those he was moving with. The squad was currently composed of Logic Gate, Rostosov, Paladin, Caretaker, Dynasty, and Yeager. "Logic Gate and Care Taker form up behind me once we get there. You can use my shield for cover, Logic Gate I've got a very big gun that can suppress these guys just show me where to fire. Care Taker can you back me up on targeting, I've got nothing to deal with target at short or medium range. Rostosov, line up beside me, use missile only when needed and work with Care Taker to lay down fire on anything closing distance. Dynasty and Yeager watch the flanks and hit anything that tries to get around us." He said on the squad channel, the Colonel had put him through dozens of simulations like this, he cried and scream and it had never helped. In truth right now he knew that the plan would work or it wouldn't then they would change it and keep going with or without him.

"Of course that's just my thoughts, I'm not saying it's the best plan but a battle line is probably a good idea. Since we don't know our enemy we just need to nail down a position and let them come to us." He said reached his position in front of the field. "Bringing the Legion online now!" With that his heavy duty shield spread out, tripling in size, even giving slots them to fire through as it buried in he ground a massive wall of metal now acting as cover. He laid the Pompey across the top. "Pompey's online! Taking aim." He said over the comm channel as steadied the massive cannon of his shield, readying the twin volley from his position. He took aim ready to fire at the nearest Framewerk after his targeting computer had worked out the angle and how much to lead it.

Form the moment her mech had hit the field Katya had decided she would not actively try to become the squads officer. The idea of ordering people around never really sat right with her. It didn't help that she was support unit and in the heat of battle trying to fight, fix and maintain sych pushed her pretty hard as it was. Add trying to run a squad Katya didn't think at this time she could do it. Maybe in time but not at this point. So the matter was simple for her. Who did she want to follow? Who could she place her trust in to lead her competently and the squad? This battle would naturally would decided that. But in the end it wasn't her choice and she was confident non of them would get a say in the matter after all they where just cadets. So as the other tried to work out a plans she simply listened only speaking to thank Elora for the map.

Truth be told as other tried to work out plans Katya was deep in though the while she was ecstatic about not having a free for all among their group she was bothered by the fact she had to kill fellow humans. While she would do it and do it to the best of her abilities as she was ordered to it simply wouldn't sit right with her.
"Just gotta suck it up. Orders are orders its them or us. They're not going to hesitate so I can't too. I can do it. It's simple just push the button and the mech will fire. I knew I'd have to do this..." She thought to herself repeating the same thoughts in her mind over and over, trying to make the idea not seem so bad. In the end it helped a little but she was still not happy with the idea it showing on her face with a small frown. Katya trying her best not to dwell on the idea right now she needed to concentrate at the task at hand.

Hearing Sigma meant something called a strawberry cake helped pulled Katya out of her mind and made her forget mostly about what she was thinking about. As he thoughts shifted to wondering what strawberry cake was.
"What's that?" she asked thinking out-loud as she made her mech move to join the others. When Ariin asked if she could back him on targeting. Katya thought for a moment weighing the idea up in her mind. Before nodding seeing it as the best idea.
"I read you Paladin. I happy to help. Also I should note to all. I have the capacity to mark targets. This can used to make the enemy easier to detect or enable long range repairs. Just need a clean shot on a target." she stated moving Caretaker closer to Paladin, finding that mech's size compared to her own was rather intimidating.
"That thing is a monster. I would love to see the hardware that drives it. I bet it take a whole team of engineers just to do a basic check. she thought feeling a pang of excitement at the mere idea.

Reaching her position Katya watched as Ariin made the Paladin deploy it's shield. A look of awe plastered on her face as she watched it deploy into something three times it size and small ports opened up to allow mech to fire form behind.
"Impressive shield." she muttered to herself approaching it placing the Marker Light in a firing port. Setting her targeting computer to constantly scan for targets that entered weapons range. While doing this she also checked her drones statues out of habit. Seeing all still read they where secure and fully charged Katya took a deep breath. The idea of hurting other people still didn't quite sit right with her. But now she was needed by the others Ariin needed her to deal with close targets so he could focus on dealing with ones at range. She had a job to do and a role to play and no matter what she would do it.

"Of course," said Ariin, his voice slightly crackling over the radio, "I'm not saying it's the best plan but a battle line is probably a good idea. Since we don't know our enemy we just need to nail down a position and let them come to us."

Harold groaned. There was literally no command structure at all. Everyone - including him, he had to admit - seemed as if they thought they knew how to fight the battle the best, and issued half-orders or stern requests. He did not say anything about this, though, and the trek to the Forest of Pillars was soon completed. Weaving through the gaps between the massive stones as awkwardly as only a heavier mech could manage, especially with his middling synchronization ratio, he eventually found himself a nice spot that more or less provided a clear field of view towards several avenues of approach, particularly Zone G. Ariin's massive Paladin, bringing its heavy weaponry to bear, was about a kilometer and half towards his right.

Of course, if the enemy came from a different direction, he would have to relocate. But he wouldn't need to at the last moment if he had good intelligence.

He shook his head. This was one hell of a wargame.

He transmitted, "I'm sure you guys already know that knowing is half the battle. Eiswolf, Logic Gate - if you see something solid about the enemy please tell us immediately and ping the map too while you're at it. We have to figure out their exact avenue of approach if this plan is going to work."

God damn it. This was extremely frustrating. It'd been too long since he heard the satisfying reply of sir, yes sir!

While Elora should have expected it, she was still humbled by the words of gratitude and even praise that she heard from the other pilots, especially Harold; she was glad that nobody could see the blush she developed in embarrassment. However, it was quickly followed by contradicting orders from various pilots; Zero and Lora wanted her to stay in the air as a spotter of hostile movement while Ariin and Harold wanted her to support them down in zone B. Anxiety started swelling up in her; no matter how she chose she would cause people to get angry at her for not obeying, and that caused her to squirm in her seat. She had to choose between two pilots who so far have stepped up to the task of directing this task force and assumed a position of leadership; Lora and Harold.

Finally, she decided on what to do, and answered into her comms: "Roger, Destiny. Scouting for hostility." It all came down to her fear of the battle, and that she believed she served a better purpose assisting the entire team with intelligence instead of staying as a ground trooper. While she was a poor flyer, she put all her concentration to it, and managed to keep a course, even if wobbly, as she headed for zone G where she could perform an arena-wide scan. On the way, she heard how distressed Sigma was about Irina, and didn't dare to comment on it. If someone as cool and composed as her could show so much emotion when she was the subject, she couldn't imagine how scary she actually was. She hoped that she wouldn't have to meet her in combat. Though an involuntary giggle escaped from her lips when she heard Sigma's strawberry line and the ensuing reaction. She felt bad for it, but she also felt that she wasn't as tense as before. Maybe this was going to end well after all.

Meanwhile, most of the Framewerks arrived at zone B except for Black Star which accidentally misstepped and tripped, and Yeager, which lost control of its trajectory after suddenly accelerating with the overboosters and spun in the air before landing head first in the dirt.
Countless stone monuments littered the area, and in many places were thick enough in density to conceal even the large bodies of the Framewerks. However, it was also a shadowy location, and as Serah reached the edge of the pillar with her weapon at the ready, she noticed the shadow cast by the pillar to take a disturbing shape; it was that of a reptilian humanoid, with long spikes on its body including two vertical fins on its shoulders, and a sinuous tail fitted with an bladed tip. Serah looked upwards, and then saw the thing that was as far removed from a regular Framewerk as was possible; it was more monster than machine, and roared with a metallic yet bestial tone as it lifted it's arms and shot what looked like electrified wires fitted with spikes at Atty. However, the shock grapplers missed and attached to a nearby pillar. Not only that, but the pilot of the fearsome-looking Frame seemed to lose its balance from the recoil, and was pulled by the wires, resulting in crashing into the obelisk. A female scream could be heard on the command channel as it happened. However, it was strangely not a natural scream, but a rather forced one. The impact broke the ultralight machine's armor asunder, and the neck on the dragonian head was bent at a 180-degree angle on the mangled remains. What seemed to be a deadly ambush from a nightmarish monster turned out as a pathetic case of accidental self-termination.

When the other Framewerks took their positions, they saw that there were several Framewerks coming from the Mystery Zone, which seemed to be a small hill with a some kind of station at the top; a white Framewerk wielding dual pistols, a black-and gray Frame with a glowing blue sword, and farther into the distance two incredibly slow but enormous Framewerks ponderously advanced, the other a blacker type with a massive gun, and the other a white, regal style to it holding a set of sword and shield. These Framewerks were so far behind that it would take another turn before they reached the edge of the Forest of Pillars.

Eiswolf reached the top of the Tower of Power. From her position Sigma now saw what the enemy side looked like, but before she could have a good look she was met with a frightening sight; a four-legged tank flied slowly through the air straight towards her position on top of the tower. However, it seemed that the pilot of the strange Framewerk realized that it was too late to capture that point, and in a foolish move, descended down and landed on the side of the tower by spreading it's legs and clutching on to it, like a flea. However, without any means of holding onto the tower's surface like claws, it soon slipped off and fell down on it's back with a loud crash, followed by another scream, with the same female voice as the first. It seemed to smash the Slag Cannon mounted on top of it completely and had major damage incurred to it's central body as a result, and was unable to move as it's legs flailed in the air like that of an upturned insect.

Elora also reached the tower, and witnessed as the quadrupedal machine met the harshness of the laws of physics.
The young girl stared at the thing with wonder. Is that...our enemy? It doesn't seem so threatening as I thought... She then snapped awake, and shook her head. Now's not the time for that! I need to get started on my scanning. She performed the geographical analysis of the area, and now had the full map of the arena uploaded to the other pilots. "Target area scanned. Hostiles are grouped in...wait." As she looked at the red dots that colored the map, she noticed something very odd. "There's one unit in zone B, 2 between zones B and C with two more advancing, ummm..." Elora was obviously not used to talking for as long as she did, but she managed to continue. "Two in zone D, one in zone E, and...uhhh, four or five in zone F. But that's weird. Why would they spread themselves so thin?" As Elora thought about it, she remembered the scream that she heard. That must have been the enemy pilot...well of course, that Irina woman was also on-

Elora's wide eyes widened even further, and for amoment she seemed to freeze, before she started shaking in a panic-like state once she fully comprehended the dreadfulness of her realization. She attempted to hit the comms button, but her finger slipped, causing her even more distress to the point that she started to scream. "They heard us!" She desperately cried into the channel. "Command channel was compromised! It's a trap! GET OUT OF THERE!"

But she was too late, as was signaled by the barely audible yet distinct sound of a whistling payload dropping down from the sky, soon followed by the ear-locking noise of a barrage of Titan Shells detonating on top of the Forest of Pillars with enough force to level a colony. The wide range of the blast reached the entire zone, and it was only due to the cover the stone monuments provided that the Framewerks inside survived with only minor damage to their systems and plenty of rubble on their chassis. However, it was soon going to be followed by another mortar strike, and the pillars were too broken to provide any real cover against another attack of that scale. Black Star and Yeager were unharmed due to being outside the zone when the shells hit it.

Sigma spotted the source of the strike; a silver Framewerk with cannons on its back was crouching at the edge of the Abyss, a rent chasm in the earth that seemed to be bottomless in its depth. And the shiny tosser wasn't alone; it was accompanied by a white Framewerk of exotic design wielding a long-barreled rifle. It spotted Eiswolf after its attention was drawn to the fallen spider tank, and now took aim using its scope, preparing to shoot Sigma. She now had to act fast, and choose between two fates. The real battle has begun, with the pilots paying the price for their folly.

"What?" was the only word Harold had managed to spout before everything around him gorged itself upwards in thick clouds of dust and dirt, accompanied by the sounds of the most terrible thunder. His visual display shook as Rostosov itself, even with its titanic bulk, was rocked around. Suddenly, the haptic controls weren't responding, and he was being pulled into and pushed away from his seat. The great pillars of stone were being rent apart with the force of a god. Flashes of red and white and orange overpowered the light of the sun.

Yet with the furious events going on, Harold's thoughts found a place for philosophy. The quote was old, so ancient, and yet still so painfully applicable: Know your enemy, and know yourself, and victory will follow.

As Team Sigma was just a half-working pile of several people with radically different personalities who just met recently, they did not know themselves. And as far as Harold knew, no-one had ever actually seen the enemy they were fighting right now, except for Sigma. So they also did not know the enemy.

Their folly was overconfidence. And Harold felt guilty in that he proposed this ridiculous plan that would only have worked under the most perfect conditions - that the enemy would make a clean, frontal assault that would be easily pushed back. His hands clenched hard against the yokes and sweat began to drip from his forehead. Hell, why did he even suggest it? He graduated as a Starfighter pilot, not a Marine.

"Harold," he muttered to himself, "you son of a bitch. You did it again. You got people ki-"

BAM! A shell landed almost directly in front of the Rostosov, stressing its metal frame to the point where it groaned terribly. Only a goddamned rock had saved him from the worst of it. This roused him from his line of thoughts, and was enough for him to return his focus on what was at hand. He turned awkwardly to the right, and there, even amid the chaos of the world, he could see it - the silver armor of the Paladin, and the sunlight gleaming off of Pompey.

"ELORA!" he yelled. "GIVE ARIIN THE EXACT COORDINATES FOR THEIR ARTILLERY IMMEDIATELY! ARIIN, PREPARE TO COUNTER-BATTERY RIGHT NOW AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD FIRE AT FUCKING WILL!"

It looked like artillery. It should be artillery. The Paladin should be able to fire back, right? Pompey could perform indirect fire - right?

And hell, did Elora even actually see their artillery? All he had were vague dots on his map, and her unclear report.

They really did not know themselves. Harold, at that point, began to laugh, as he began to run towards Zone G.

"You sons of bitches," he muttered. "I fought the Aliens! I survived! You think you're fucking tough, huh?! Just wait till I get to you - I'll tear you the fuck apart!"

"Sigma," he yelled again, "you're on that big obelisk, right? If you can see the bastard shelling us, GIVE HIM ONE IN THE EYE!"

A lot of things happened on the battlefield. Things that Roger couldn't really see or comment on because he was busy getting his Framewerk up off the ground and securing his weapon, which hand flown off somewhere in the crash. He had certainly learned his lesson: don't boost unless you can pilot the damn robot reliably. However, he did manage to grasp the gist of the situation: Avoid Ace Pilot, strawberry cake, Command Channel is a trap, pillars got nuked to shit.

Yeager's White paint was dirtied with dirt and mud now, but that's how it usually ended up looking after Roger got through with it. Luckily there wasn't any damage that wasn't superficial, a perk of the machine's durability.

The whole comms system was probably a trap, but the Command channel definitely was. Still, there was no other way to communicate, so he switched to a "private" channel to talk to the Black Star and its pilot."

"Hey," Roger said, his voice shaking more than he's like, "Want to try our lucky by the lake?" There were four or five enemies over there (according to Elora's map), but going into the forest of artillery was a near suicidal plan at best, that tower blocked movement through the center of the battlefield, and they were closer to the lake than everyone else. In any case, he'd try to remain steady in piloting as long as he could, there was no time limit (as far as they were told), and crashing again because he was impatient would only cause more him to remain useless for longer than he already had been.

"..." Sigma stood silent, not moving an inch. The scream. That damned scream. It was all too familiar. It was her scream. A chill ran down her spine as the first of the enemy units seemed to self-terminate due to the pilot's klutziness. A very familiar klutziness. And then, the ominous tank that was hovering around her failed to latch, and suffered the same fate.

And the same scream was heard. It was all the confirmation Sigma needed. Her eyes went wide, as she gagged momentarily in awe.

The others. My clone sisters. They are the other cadets.

And then, the roaring thunder of the forest location shook her short of her stupor. The communications were compromised. She couldn't believe what was happening. Things were bleak, but somehow they were turning much, much, bleaker. She was at loss. If she fought, she could risk termination of the ones she had shared so many sparrings and meals, and perhaps comfort among dehumanized scientists and trainers.

"Damn you. Damn you." She cursed, gritting her teeth, tears welling again. She found the artillery unit, and someone aiming at her. Another two sisters. She didn't want to fight. She had to fight. She didn't want to kill. She had to kill or be killed.

I serve mankind. Above the fate of my similar units. I am a weapon. She gritted her teeth, as she forwarded through a private channel both the units she had spotted to Elora, and then opened an intercom to the impatient Harold. "Negative. Tower compromised. Hold on a while longer."

She had done this so many times. She moved fast, leveling the weapon, She aimed at the core of the other long range machine, with intention of disabling it. And she fired.

Not done yet. No. I don't want to lose grasp of something, to win something else. I want it all. Yes. I want my fellow clones. I want the crybaby's map. And the cake.

She was burning. Grief. And anger. Lorenzo was her owner. Irina her master.

But sometimes experiments went beyond the parameters, weren't they?

No regrets.

She focused, opening the general channel once more. She wanted them to hear this.

"Don't get too cocky, team Irina. You and my fellow clone sisters. Here. I. COME!" She exploded, as she began to run, her thrusters once again to the maximum. She leaped. She spun in midair. Thrusters shunted off.

And the frame's limbs obeyed like a second body. Executing a dropkick. From the top of the tower. On the artillery mech, with the intention of toppling it into the abyss.

Serah had to squint her eyes a bit at first to make sure she wasn't imagining things with that shadow, though that thought was quickly pulled aside when they had actually checked what caused it. A reptilian-machine hybrid of sorts was crouching atop its stone pillar, before letting out the most ungodly scream you could imagine. "Why does EVERYTHING want to blow up my ears?" Serah mentally asked herself whilst anguishing over that horrid sound. Before the girl had any more time to react, two wires shot out of the other Framewerk's palms, or at least she thought it was their palms. Atty's pilot tried to dodge to the side, though it wasn't necessary as both shockers burrowed themselves into a pillar just a little ways away. Not only that, but the poor machine got yanked right off their high ground and rammed into the obelisk it latched onto, contorting the frame in ways they never were intended to. A final scream echoed, and then silence. The girl inside of the red framewerk was... Surprisingly apathetic about all of it. She kept a cool head and only winced slightly at the sight, whilst also pondering why that scream sounded so similar to that white-haired girl's voice. "Sheesh." Serah murmured, figuring that these cadets weren't going to be very hard to deal with if this was the best they had to show for it.

And then it happened. Over the comms, Elora screamed for anyone in the ruins to get away and the global channel having been compromised. Serah didn't have any time to react to it, as suddenly her cameras were obscured by dirt and grime flying all over the place. "Kyaaaa!" she screamed, with Atty getting flung off the ground and smashing against the floor a bit farther. The shock of the shells exploding all around sent various debris flying right against Atty, who was sprawled on the floor and got sufficiently rocked around. Serah had to take heavy breaths in order to stabilize from the sudden shift in blood location all around her body, making a backwards roll with her Framewerk and pushing it back onto their feet. She moved in tandem with Atty, trying to feel what they feel. "I'm sorry, Atty... I shouldn't have put you through that." the girl apologized, to her framewerk of all things! Atty's body armor was fragile, so there were noticeable dents all around and some of the paint got torn off. Its non-sword arm also looked a little worn.

Serah'd gotten a more detailed map whilst all this was going on, quickly darting her eyes over the rough scan Elora sent through. Nothing seemed to be good. The tower was cramped, if she retreated her position'd be compromised, and four enemies were approaching from the front. "Damnit!" she cursed, forgetting the global channel was still on. People could most certainly still hear what the girl's saying. Serah had no time to waste. Staying in the ruined area of pillars was a bad idea, with that volley from before looking to be a reoccurring thing. So, she settled on one option. The girl looked over to check if her communications were on, which they were. And she turned them off completely, not receiving nor sending any more audio transcripts. "Sorry guys, but I can't wimp outta this..." the girl muttered to herself as she bit her lip, facing the Mystery zone with Atty.

She made him point the energy blade clasped in its hand forward, as if issuing a challenge... And then dashed. The reflector wings on Atty's back detached itself and floated at 45° angles in front of them, providing some cover from incoming fire whilst not obscuring the feedback cameras on the helmet of the framewerk. Serah tried to slice once to fire off a sickle of energy to the first bastard she got in sight, which was the one with the glowy sword. Wasting no time in resetting the energy on the edge and draining some of the core whilst doing so, Serah fixed her gaze to the white framewerk that wielded guns. A priority. She wasn't great at range, so getting close and taking them down was priority. The girl fixed her sword to have a good angle, and rushed forward to try and slice at least an arm off, or to attempt stabbing the framewerk in some way. This was risky with two others behind, and that melee framewerk getting up close but... Hell, she had to risk it. This advance could easily flank her entire team.

Honestly, Serah was a little scared deep down. She was shocked from that blast, worrying about what would become of her and her team... But that took a backseat to this fight. That reptile showed her it isn't just a simulation. This was real combat. And therefor, the girl shut off her emotions. She was out to survive now, and had been trained to not let anything get in the way of your concentration.

Lora came to her senses again covered in a layer of cold sweat tricking through her plugsuit. She swore - once, again, then a last stream that would make mother quite unhappy - and simply lay back, nigh-defeated.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. Of course the broadband extended to all the Frames on the field. Of course they'd hear the plan. Of course they'd have some devious counterattack. Of course that rabid bitch Irina wasn't kidding.

Dynasty was arguably the most unfortunate one caught in the shelling. One of the blasts landed right in front of the Framewerk, stunning the pilot with the shock and causing her to backpedal reflexively- right into one of the pillars. Several luckily-placed explosions following toppled that pillar and two more right on top of her, crushing and practically burying Dynasty in the rubble and remains.

So here she lay, pinned under the ruins of Zone B with nobody but herself to blame. This is just how it was going to be, was it? She tried to reach beyond what she was used to and got kicked down because of it. One could argue the excuse that the cadets as a whole had no way of possibly predicting the exact situation here - but that still all made them helpless from the very beginning with no way to even scrape a plan together. Is this what Lorenzo thought combat would be like?

What was I thinking, signing up for this? Lora lamented. I was young, hormone-addled, angsty. Who would want a subject like that? Why in the flying hells would someone like that ancient scientist see me as useful if he wasn't several decades off his rocker?

"For the love of god, Harold, STOP USING THE DAMN RADIO WHEN THEY CAN STILL HEAR US!" Lora all but screamed over the open comms, her frustration igniting again in her cyclic phases of grief.

And what about you, Lora? What will you do now?

Probably die a horrible pathetic death, she insulted herself, attempting to use the Framewerk to shrug off the debris covering her and earning no response. Lora's Synch rate had dipped all the way down into the single digits with her sheer emotional outburst, lending to the frame practically just being another hunk of metal in a tomb around her as she wrangled the controls maddeningly. Deep down, the pilot knew it shouldn't end like this, but these so many mistakes turned against her just kept making her powerless.

It was aggravating to highest degree, knowing she should have control and instead finding she was doing everything wrong. Yet she still tried, and still her effort bore no fruit.

Zim tripped and fell flat on his face. 'Great, just what I need,' Zim thought. He struggled to get to his feet for some reason. He had worked this thing enough that he knew how to do it, yet it was like the machine it'self was working against him, like it was trying to prevent Zim and Black Star from reaching the pillars where he would be most useful. About the time that he finally got the machine back to its feet was when the message came that it was a trap. Unsure of what to do Zim thanked Black Star. He truly doubted that the machine knew what was out there ahead of him, but he thanked it for preventing him from being in that mess anyways as the first round of mortar fire went off.

The private channel flickered through, it was Roger. 'The Lake?' Zim thought in response to the question, 'Never too late to learn.' He gestured to Roger his consent. He sent a text message to Elora as he started heading that way. The message read:

"Radio hurt us. Radio help us. Relay true message via text to all troops. Relay false message to troops via radio. Keep everyone in a Panic."

He sent a similar message to Roger:
"Lets find out if we can swim, ignore radio chatter."

Zim then dispatched over the radio in as panicy of a voice as he could muster despite his usually cool, calm, and serious demeanor. "Oh God, we are so screwed! Everybody, regroup in Zone A!"

Zim of course had no idea of the text messages sent direct recipient were also able to be monitored, but if not then it was their best bet to buy some time and get the troops moving.

With his gamble played Zero focused his best efforts on piloting the machine towards the Lake. The cut out anything that wasn't important. He event turned off the thermal blade of his Scythe until he was closer to the enemy. He kept his eyes on the radar, and the incoming messages, but paid little attention to anything else inside his chassis. He needed to trust his compatriots, and he needed to trust Black Star. Together, he hoped, they might be able to ambush the those in the Lake while they were in transit, thinking they were going to catch the battle rattled cadets.

If anything, this highlight of the groups folly only hardened Zim's resolve.

The Paladin had only a about five seconds between the the warning the first shells impact. He didn't bother to move, he'd steady his weapon and braced. The explosions and clanked and rattled against the Paladins armor, the big was built to take punishing hits, even without the shield. He locked his target once more, he swapped his targeting data and turn the gun, then he fired. The white dual pistol wielding Frame was about to learn the power of magnets, with that complete he picked up his shield and started to move spend a message to Lora. This one typed and on a private channel he hoped it wasn't some sort electronic warfare Frame they were dealing with. 'Heading into mystery zone, I'll draw fire back me up.' It read as he started to move a few plates had some damage but it seemed his shields had held and most of his armor was intact.

Next he messaged Katya. 'Going to draw fire and try to lead them off, help others. They sure to have more damage than I did, if I can draw fire long enough for them to spread out we should still have a chance.' He knew the plan wasn't smart, his Framewerk could have just stay their and kept firing. Yet if he could draw the fire into the other zones, bait two or three of them after him it would give the others a fighting chance, right? He pressed forward moving into the mystery zone shield raised to defend against incoming attacks. "Come and get it assholes! None little girls can take me!" He yelled, trying to push the image of one of his sister in a Frame from his mind.

He looked towards the sword carrier and picked up the pace, his shield vs a sword... He was besting on the very heavy shield made of experimental alloys and the fact it would have a he of a lot of weight behind it. He smiled, right now he out here being an idiot and charging into the fray. In truth with armor plating and shields they would all need to fire on him to take him out right now. If they did, well mission accomplished they shot him instead of someone else, he was here to protect people not try and be a hero.

It all happened so fast one moment she was awaiting the enemy to advance into firing range then next the moment she heard someone cry into the comm's that it's trap followed seconds later by the sound of a deafening explosion and a blinding flash of light. Then chaos that followed as the ground shook and rubble started to fall, Katya fighting with her controls to keep her mech up right and minimize damage to the mech. But no matter what she did couldn't stop the rubble form pounding her mechs armor. Each thud sending a shiver up the young woman spine. In the middle of the chaos Katya watched as Dynasty get buried by rubble, but Katya was so busy trying to keep herself form being buried she couldn't do anything but watch in dismay. Once everything settled down Katya scanned her screens Caretakers systems had taken minimal damage, but its top armor was dented to buggery. Inside the cockpit she heard several quick clicks as the control node checked the drones each one responding one after the other.

Hearing the clicks Katya felt and pang of relief knowing she still had the ability to repair the others. Hearing her comm unit alert her
to a message. Katya looked at it and nodded not even bothering to see who it was form. It told her to help the others so that what she would do. Her first thought was to help Lora who was now buried under rubble. Moving her mech to where Dynasty was buried she started to move bits of rubble in an effort to get to the buried mech. Caretaker wasn't the strongest mech on the field but Katya would try her hardest to help Dynasty and its pilot for as long time permitted her. Now having access to the full map Elora uploaded she had a fair idea of enemies position. Katya only worry is if the shelled the area again, Caretaker would most likely be crippled or destroyed without the cover of the pillars but the idea of leaving someone buried under rubble was something she simply could not do without making some effort to free them.

Logically thought she knew if she couldn't free enough of the mech to allow it break free quickly, she'd have to fall back. She knew if she died or was disabled she be unable to help the others of her team. But if there was a chance the mech a pilot where still okay to fight she had to help them. Right now they needed every scrap of man power they had and if not she had to see if the pilot was okay at least. Truth be told her mind simply wanted a justification for what might some considered a selfish and stupid act.
Her biggest fear though was that enemy would shell the area again and without the cover of the pillars she knew Caretaker would most likely at the very least be crippled if one of those shell detonated near her. But more importantly the idea of them shelling the area again carried the potential of killing her.

That idea alone scared Katya as the young woman had never stared death in face like this outside of training simulations and while that was scary deep down she knew she was safe. But now there was no assurances she would survive and the reality of that was hitting her hard. She used the task of freeing her teammate to keep her mind focused on piloting the mech. Doing her best to ignore the unpleasant feeling that had formed in her gut. Forcing herself keep going and the mech along with her even if it had started to feel like it the mech was lagging like it didn't want to respond to her commands.
"I'm not afraid." she started saying to herself over and over but no matter how much she forced herself to focus she could still feel the unpleasant feeling in her gut, the fear of the death. Something she had to learn to deal with while fighting or it would consume her. Realizing she needed to check if Lora was okay Katya opened a private channel to Dynasty.
"Are you okay? I'm trying to free you. Please hold on... please be okay.

The main reason for why the Rostosov was marching to Zone G was because Harold wanted to be nowhere near the next salvo of that god-damned artillery when it came. He'd been shelled before - granted, it was only Cruxi light mortars - and the Marines dashed and wove their way across the flat expanses of metal that were Bastion Alexandria's hangars and the debris that offered variable cover strewn around them. The lesson was clear - if you were being shelled, get the hell away.

The difference here, was that he was on foot then, and now he was piloting a Framewerk. He panicked - he thought himself vulnerable, instead of being covered in layer after layer of armored plating. God. His synch rate had dropped to its lowest point of 32%, but as he regained his composure, it was rising back to its normal levels.

He also realized then, however, that he was headed in the wrong direction. Zone G, with the massive obelisk, offered no advantage to his heavy mech. Sigma had also transmitted via private channel that she was not going to be engaging the artillery platform with her sniper rifle. "Copy," he had said, in a disappointed reply.

Zone C. He stopped, turned, and began to head in its direction, navigating his way upon the border between the Forest of Pillars and the Tower of Power.

Battle chatter had apparently devolved into terse language between long bouts of silence. Zim had even suggested that they all fall back to Zone A. Harold himself could not simply say "I have escaped the barrage. Requesting for new orders," because there was no command structure. Similarly, he also could not give commands on his own. Everyone was doing his or her own thing - chaos. It frustrated him to no end. Communications were also incredibly irregular - Ariin had never acknowledged his suggestion that he counter-battery the enemy's artillery. Since the shelling, he had not received a single transmission from the Paladin, and did not know about the state of that mech. And yet his dot still showed intermittently on his map.

Harold was thinking that maybe he was starting to dislike Cadet Sorius.

Lora had reminded him, quite pointedly, that the command channel had been breached. So he transmitted in private to Ariin, Katya, and Lora, the three people who were the nearest to him at the moment of the shelling:

"Rostosov here, am heading to Zone C and intend to engage the enemy there. What are you guys doing?"

He did not have to wait for a reply as when he rounded a still standing pillar of stone, there they were: a challenging Paladin, and two unfamiliar frames, one white which held pistols, and a black one that sported a sword.

His reply was immediate.

"Ariin!" he called out, still on the private comms. "I'm to your right! Providing fire!"

A crosshair came into existence as his view zoomed into his target: the sword-wielding bastard. The massive gatling guns that passed for the Rostosov's arms were brought to bear.

TYPE 2500 MODEL 3 41CM GATLING - SPINNING

"EAT THIS!"

TYPE 2500 MODEL 3 41CM GATLING - FIRING

Each discharge of the guns was like the roar of thunder - and they each fired at a rate of a thousand and a half rounds a minute. Their might shook even the great bulk of the Rostosov, and Harold could feel the vibrations carrying into his seat. His hands squeezed at the yokes. There was never a quite a feeling as unleashing the wrath of super-heavy weaponry. His eyes eagerly followed the first tracer as it left the barrel and sped its way towards his target about eight kilometers away, according to his rangefinder.

If Zim and Roger made it to Section F without incident, he would re-engage Black Star's Thermal Scythe. The armor plates would still be in the down position to try and protect against an ambush. They were attempting to take down up to five units with just the two of them. Zim still had no idea if Black Star would survive a splash, or if the opposition werks would be either. Going from the open plains to the beaches around the lake would go from no cover, to no cover with poor traction with shifting sands. Zim would have to attempt to do something that he had practice many times and had little success in training. He would need to use his thrusters to blitz the enemy.

'Please Black Star,' Zim begged his machine, 'I know we can do this. Come on, lets pull this off!'

Once the opponents started opening fire, assuming that they were using ranged weapons, Zim would use standard evasive maneuvers to try and close the gap between him and the nearest opponent. He would hope that Roger could provide cover-fire while strafing to prevent himself from being a sitting duck, and that he would recognize the melee nature of Black Star and pick a different target. Once he got close enough for a straight line boost Zero would crouch Black Star down, open his armored wings, Scythe drawn back for a full swing, and push full throttle to his jump boosters with the intent of that launching him directly into the target. With any luck, Zero and Black Star would work together in this attempt and the timing would work out for Zim to use the Scythe to cut the opposing Werk in Half. If he didn't, then he could only hope that Black Star would slam into the werk and shove it bodily into the depths of the water, hoping that the damage itself would be enough to incapacitate the foe, or that the depths below would finish the job.

If able, he would close his armored wings and assess his next attack, if there was time, or simply act reflexively... If Black Star allowed.

Logic Gate, while still invisible, flew around in circles above the tower as Elora sobbed in grief inside it. The sight of the bombardment was too much for the young girl to emotionally handle, and her synchro rate dropped, first to 80%, and then to 75%, until it settled at the 71-72% range. She then started losing altitude, and almost crashed into the side of the durable structure before she opened her eyes and pulled up as a learned reflex.
She first opened up the command channel to speak, but then remembered the exact reason why most of her squad was shelled, and linked the squad channel Ariin created between them. "I-I'm sorry. I should have realized the eavesdropping sooner. Please forgive me."

She winced when Harold started screaming to her, but not as much as one may have assumed; she was more glad that Harold was still in a good enough condition to use his lungs that much, and in a bizarre way, she was happy to be yelled at for that one instant. As soon as he was finished giving her the order, Sigma pointed the units to her, and she in turn marked them as blue dots in addition to giving the map coordinates to Ariin. "R-Roger! Sending coordinates..." She then read the message Zero sent, and forwarded it to to everyone else before she began screaming in the command channel: "Eeeehhh! Retreat to zone A! Retreat to zone A! KIYAAAAAAA!" Elora didn't have to work much to fake a panic as she was still in something resembling one, though her choice of screams left something to be desired.

While Elora was providing fabricated communications to the enemy, Sigma proved herself to be the fastest gunslinger in Solaire, and took a shot right through the exotic Framewerk's chest where its core was located. Instead of a scream like with the other enemy pilots, this time it was a grunt of pain as the Frame dropped its rifle and went to its knees. It lifted an arm towards Sigma with outstretched fingers before it finally fell down. Then she delivered a kick to the other Frame who stood up in reaction to it's comrade's defeat. The Frame managed to activate its plasma shield before the attack connected, but it was enough force to send it careening deep into the earth. However, the Frame seemed to be more tenacious than the others, and grabbed Eiswolf by its ankle, dragging it also into the pit.

The two hit the bottom with a crash; Eiswolf suffered major damage to its thrusters, torso and one leg, while the silver Framewerk's was crushed, an arm ripped off from its shoulder and its legs bent at an awkward angle. For a moment, it seemed it was the end, given that the female pilot screamed, but the cannon-carrying construct managed to slowly crawl up and growled in a metallic tinge, not unlike the Frame that Serah faced off. It activated a plasma blade on its forearm, about to lunge into the downed sharpshooter before it stopped. It looked down, and Sigma saw a purple glow emanating from its torso in the shape of a sword. The sword then sliced upwards, and split the Frame vertically like it was made of butter, causing the two halves to fall separately. Sigma then heard a very familiar voice from a private channel that popped up in her comms: "I told you to stay out of my way, Delta. You were one of the better ones...but not as good as our little Siggy." Sigma attempted to use her jetpack to escape, but before she had a chance to act a black, robotic hand suddenly closed over Eiswolf's head, with a grip strong enough to crush it if any more pressure was applied. "Well, as much as a faildoll can be. That little drama play you put out was quite amusing." Sköll emerged from the shadows, and craned its neck, lowering the head right up to Eiswolf's and mimicking Irina's body language as if the pilot herself was the Framewerk, down to the smallest twitch of its limbs. While it held onto Eiswolf's cranial part, Sköll then activated its thrusters, and rose up from the Abyss. "I first thought to ambush you guys using a tunnel since Dental went mental, but this is a lot more fun. I'm gonna take you to your pals, and let you spectate as I make scrap metal out of them! HAAA HA HAA HAAAA!"

Rooney managed to keep Yeager under control through learning and willpower, and took up position at the shores of zone F, designated as the Lake of Rage. Black Star also pulled through, and reached it just in time for the enemy forces to land. The vast blue pool of water formed waves as Framewerks advanced both under and over it; the floating Frame had the appearance of a heavenly being, with a pristine engraved exterior and tendrils of electricity sparking from it. A Frame resembling a rose crawled up the wet sand, while another that took the appearance of a humanoid sword leaped out, and shot a shotgun blast that rent Black Stars Armor Wings, causing one of them to fall off, but didn't pierce the rest of the body due to the Frame's distance. Black Star swung its Thermal Scythe in response, but the unwieldy weapon missed completely, causing the black Frame to slam into the sleek Frame and cause it to fall backwards into the shallow water with enough power to make it sink into the sand as it's pointy legs flailed around. While this was happening, the electric Framewerk charged up a lightning boltlike spear of electricity in its arm, and threw it at Yeager, only to be intercepted by a black and wiry Framewerk with a katana; the pilot didn't seem to pay any attention to its surroundings, and exploded from the impact of the energy blast, causing it's parts to scatter all over the place as a female scream once again rung in the command channel. The rose Framewerk shot out a thorny whip at Yeager, causing it to coil around its torso. vine then both extended spikes into Frame to tighten its grip, and grinded the armor with spinning segments; Yeager was unable to escape, and another lightning bolt was charged by the Frame that seemed to stand over the lake's water.

Meanwhile, at the destroyed Forest of Pillars, Caretaker successfully unearthed Dynasty, a billowy cloud of dirt and dust sprayed over the two as the Frame lifted its way out of its momentary imprisonment.
While Katya was giving support to Lora, a battle raged in the Mystery Zone. Atty launched an energy sickle that was parried by the glowy sword-wiedling Frame. Serah then attempted to charge at the pistol-wielding one, but was too slow to make another attack; the white Framewerk shot at Atty, and hit its thruster wings, but the kinetic shots were more designed for piercing armor than an energy barrier, though a glanced shot almost pierced the Frame's torso. However, it never had the chance to take another shot as it was utterly wrecked by Paladin's Pompey, causing all of its limbs to rip apart and its torso to shatter into countless tiny pieces. Paladin then attempted to close in on the sword-wielding Frame, but it's imposing size was a detriment when it came to movement, only able to slowly walk after an attack despite Ariin's attempts at hastening it. The sword-wiedling Frame charged at Atty, about to swing its blade and split the red Frame in two when rescue came from an unlikely source: Harold unleashed a hail of bullets, and in response the Light Frame activated a red hexagon field in front of it. At first Rostosov's kinetic attack was absorbed, but the field overloaded from the sheer volume; the pilot's scream was abruptly cut off by the detonation, causing the Frame's chest to cave in and it's head to blast off.

The two heavy Frames finally reached the battlefield, but their efforts turned out to be less than stellar; the black one activated it's massive gun, but missed despite shooting at Rostosov, the most easy target around. The white Frame on the other hand seemed to be more successful as it gallantly charged with its sword stabbing the sky, but then tripped, causing a loud thump as it's wide body hit the ground.

The battle was now turned around thanks to the efforts of Squad Sigma, but the enemy only kept becoming bolder, not to mention the ultimate foe, who was cackling at the scene of destruction while keeping Sigma in her claws.
