This story will focus on the theme of stasis and what keeps our heroes from reaching their full potential. Think about what holds your character back and what makes them struggle to move forward in life. Think about what causes them despair and conversely, what gives them hope.
Our protagonists will be experiencing life after high school. This is a turning point in their lives where they will certainly experience change, unfamiliarity, and estrangement. With the full knowledge their decisions henceforth will influence the path their life may lead, stress, uncertainty and hardship are bound to ensue. Many will adapt to the times and seek companionship on their journey, while others may cling to the familiar. Some may have never truly experienced strengthened bonds and thus view the idea of reaching out now impossible. Will they be able to find others to walk along the same path as they do?
The select few who harbor the potential to grow will be drawn together during these trying times by a series of events that are unique to them. Just as the sun descends over the horizon, these gifted individuals will notice that time ceases to progress. In the dim light of dusk their friends, family, and even strangers remain tethered to a single moment in time. Occasionally, they will see movement; a flicker of blue in their peripheral that beckons them into the sharp edges of the darkness. Should they choose to face uncertainty and walk together, they will obtain the power to have truly known oneself; Persona.
With newfound clarity these heroes bravely set forth into the unknown, lead by unseen force into the murky waters of the underworld.
Kantou City
関頭町 Kantoumachi. “Critical moment; crucial point; crossroads.”
Kantou is a small city located near a bustling area between a handful of other densely populated areas. As such, it is a city of crossroads. It is also known as the city of four corners, having an odd structure of four distinct subsections. The first being the sector that hosts the town’s university which appeals to lower income students due to it’s low tuition rate. The others are a bustling commerce section, which outstretches past the town and flows through into the outlying residential areas.
Kantou Station
At the heart of Kantou, a large train station stands as the town’s most modern building to date. Geographically Kantou is surrounded by cities on three of its sides while the fourth leads to a wooded mountainous region. Therefore, it is host to a multitude of bullet trains leading to and from the more buzzing, metropolitan areas. Living below these metal titans a smaller, underground train rumbles along a circle, only emerging from the earth to transport its passengers to a number of platforms within the city. Directing the flow of heavy traffic from one town to another, the station serves as a gateway for ends and new beginnings.
Commerce Sector
This is where the city really seems to shine. With its busy streets and hangouts, this sector is home to a large four-story mall as well as a plethora of both chain restaurants and local eateries. Live musicians occasionally play on Blue Boulevard, though it is a bit rare for national celebrities to appear in such a small city as opposed to one of the bigger ones nearby.
Near the outskirts of the district, a few underground shops may look a bit suspect. Occasionally whispers of gangs will pop up in this area, though crime rate itself doesn’t appear to be on the rise. Upon further inspection, there is an illegal weapons shop disguised as a pet shop. While the pets are still for sale, so are the finely crafted weapons. It’s a one shop stop for furry friends and contraband! The owner has a deep commitment to both, it seems.
Kantou University
The city’s university is small but efficient nevertheless. With only twenty student buildings or so, it still manages to squeeze in a variety of subjects. Their admission rates are rather strict, but do offer conditional acceptances to those who prove brightness not reflected by their entrance exams. Should a student do well on their admissions essay, they will receive conditional acceptance in which a career counselor will closely monitor their progress during their first semester.
The campus itself is well maintained, but rustic. For decades, it has been maintained as a sanctuary for plant life within the rest of the concrete city. Tall, developed trees stand higher than the buildings, casting sunspots across the red stone walkways. A small lake nestled within the campus’ forested area hosts a number of fish, a single metal bench being the only human aspect in sight. The metal is formed as if to look like branches growing from the earth, as if it were made specifically to blend in with the organic elements around it. Fountains sit at near the center of the campus, functioning as popular spots for reading and play.
The dorm rooms are small, but built for maximum efficiency. Every room accommodates three students within compartmentalized bunk beds, each secluded from the other two using sliding doors. There are outlets built into the bed compartments for electric access, as well as touch lights. To the student’s frustration however, the wifi is rather shoddy in most of these rooms. For relaxing and studying in groups, there are two lounges on each floor. Dormitories are split into separate wings for male and female students.
Residential Sector
This is where the town’s old age becomes largely apparent. A stark contrast between newly developed apartment complexes and older homes showcase both the old and the new. The new apartments bring with them bright, glimmering exteriors with big glass windows, home to many of the more wealthy business folk relocating for work.
The historic houses tend to belong to bigger families and the elderly who have either lived there for most of their lives or are just starting to begin theirs. Being that this sector is closest to the mountainous region, it is home to rural communities as well. Every so often, the townsfolk from the outskirts of town will gather and leave offerings at the local shrine, supposedly to keep the spirits of the dead tranquil and benevolent. It’s said that an old witch lives deep within the creaking, ancient forest, watching over the aching spirits of those who went there to die.
The Forest of Lights
On the edges of the residential sector, just past the farthest train tracks is a protected forest made from trees that are older than anything within the walls of Kantou. Wooden steps were erected to make walking over the sloping earth more viable, though only the brave at heart tend to wander the labyrinth after dark. It is said to be a popular spot for hauntings, as many suffering from the city’s doldrums tend to go there to die. Rumors of spirit lights have been circulating for decades, and thus some paranormal enthusiasts will occasionally venture into the darkness with cameras in order to document these phenomena. It is said that only twenty years ago, one camera man who wandered in went missing.
As a result, no one chooses to live near this area. However, one ragged old woman who claims to have lived there her entire life refuses to leave, even at the request of the local authorities. Some say it was her that caused the camera man to disappear, though no evidence of this has been found.
Rules and Character Creation!
THE RULES
- Be cool, read the guild's rules.
- Use common sense! This isn't going to be a dice roller or have any real battle system to govern if your character is a bad boss or not. Try to keep it believable and don't powerplay, godmod, control someone else's character, ect.
- If you plan on dropping out, disappearing, or just need to leave, just say so! We will miss you, but it happens. Also, we'd like to know if we need to write your character out of the story.
- Even if you can't write a ton of paragraphs, post! We're not going to crack down on length so long as what is written has substance. Three good paragraphs is better than none at all.
ON CHARACTER CREATION
We prefer characters to be college age but this is not a requirement, however. The ultimate goal is that the character is experiencing some sort of hardship that is keeping them from moving forward in life. What holds your character back? What do they want from life? What does their existence lack? Get deep into that emotional baggage!
Try tying them into the college campus, if possible. If they don't attend classes maybe they work on or near the campus, maybe they are a professor, maybe a loved one is there and they come visit. Get creative.
CHARACTER SHEET GUIDELINES
- Check to see if your ARCANA is taken or not. You can file a claim for arcanas in the ooc.
- Post your bio in the character tab after you get your persona of choice approved by Attis.
- Personas can be already existing ones, or ones you made up.
- Try to keep your character's persona within Greek or Roman myth. If you absolutely cannot, that's fine, but we want to be consistent.
- Please message Attis with the Persona you wish to use beforehand! There are four deities that are on the off-limits list due to them being integral to the plot.
- Players are responsible for updating their character sheet. Try to notify the GMs when changes occur, or announce it in the OOC.
- You and the other player will decide when you feel as if a social link has been established or strengthened between your characters. If you've come to an agreement, then update your character sheet and let a GMs know. The GM will then approve of new skill, etc.
- When choosing new skills to fill your social link earned slots, pick mid level ones first. You're not getting God's Hand in the first act, buddy!
- The first three skills you pick as freebies will automatically upgrade as the story progresses. So if you picked something like Garu as a starter, then don't use your earned skills to get garula or something.
- When filling out your character sheet, delete the instructions in (parentheses). We know the rules and don't need them.
- Put images in place of the silly ones in the character sheet, or delete them.
- Dear god, please, please, please keep the images small. It doesn’t have to be tiny just don’t like… stretch the page.
