As a setting nWoD sucks the root.

I have a budding interest in the oWoD and am wondering if anyone'd be interested in a game set in it. More likely strictly with Vampire: The Masquerade but if enough people want I can be inclusive of the other games.

I'd like to roleplay in one, consider it to have interest shown.

Though I'd like to see the details of Mage: The awakening in it. I don't really mind. I have ideas on ways to roleplay a vampire too.

You could certainly play as a mage. I'll have to brush up on M:TAs, though.

I could be down to clown. Though I have a bad habit of wanting to play really weird splats.

Though I would note that Changeling and Mummy are superior in nWoD, and Promethean is also pretty cool tbh fam

Most of my knowledge of WoD is limited to V:TM, so I'm mostly basing my opinions on the nWoD on V:TR which I just do not find as interesting.

I hear Werewolf: The Forsaken is pretty good in it too though so fuck me.

Now this isn't my RP, but my take on a WoD-styled game would be to take pretty much whatever inspiration you want from any of the gamelines, and present it as a more generic dark fantasy/horror setting.

The three main gamelines are just more generic in nWoD versus oWoD. Most of the secondary gamelines are more interesting in nWoD in my experience. The exception being Geist compared to Wraith, which are different enough to be difficult to compare. Both versions of Demon however are super different, and the latter is totally dependent on the God Machine Chronicle. I like to pretend Beast and anything that came out after it doesn't exist.

I'm also quite fond of the Genius and Leviathan fangames. I think they occupy fun places in the Universal Movie Monster mythos.

I personally really don't mind if you don't think Mage: The awakening is convenient for you to read, I have no interest in playing one of those highly-capable characters at start so my character will be more basic in terms of abilities. I imagine starting a candle fire by clicking fingers when no one's looking would not require that many mechanics to understand.

:).

Also, I HAVE NOT PERSONALLY PLAYED MAGE ON TABLETOP EITHER! So ...you won't be the only one reading. I'm just interested in this topic as a whole.

Also, to note: I've never played any White Wolf game, so this won't have any dice rolling unless someone wants to give a crash course on the Storyteller/Storytelling systems.

Here is your crash course: it is not very good, and makes combat a painful and tedious experience. WoD games benefit greatly from a more narrative-focused style and system.

For setting, I'm thinking west coast, LA, San Francisco, maybe a bit east into Nevada/Vegas. Time period...late 70s to mid 80s.

Gotta have a killer soundtrack, ye.

Consider my interest expressed. I have a sort of nostalgic love for the old girl, might as well break it out.

For the record, I prefer sticking to one theme at a time rather than throwing vampires and mages and werewolves (oh my!) into the same mix and trying to pretend things balance out.

I was thinking of mainly doing a sort of free-forming thing. Like, Vampires might have their own plotline, mages another, etc. They might intersect, might not, etc. I dunno.

We'll see how it goes.

Is that the 'Noir' period that you are thinking of?

If everyone is playing something different, having multiple independent plots will strain the GM unduly and result in a bare mimimum of player interaction.

Again, I'd recommend the setting be "generic dark fantasy" styled after World of Darkness, so we can take what we want and leave what we don't, according to player preference and plot convenience.

To tie together a bunch of different characters, perhaps the plot could involve some sort of supernatural contracting company that employs our characters? I've seen that done well.

I mean, I already didn't plan on really focusing on the meta-plots of the respective series.

But if it's just 'generic dark fantasy', well, what makes it WoD?

My point is that if we drop from "WoD" to "WoD-inspired," we can streamline the setting as needed to be conducive to a succesful RP. The setting could be as similar as we wanted it to be, we're just filing off the serial numbers to make it easier on ourselves.

There's one issue, though.

I already have an original setting like this.

I mean, we could always just play it as 'WoD Lite.'

I just wanted to play in the WoD, heh.
