The Crimson Sky [WIP]

The homeland of the mysterious creatures known as Youkai. The Crimson Sky is a parallel world, beyond the boundary and borders of the everyday men's reality. It envelops and overlaps with the Human World on the places they are closest, but usually is all but impossible to access. The Crimson Sky derives its name from its most defining characteristic, the sky that is bathed in the blood red light of the Moon that hangs ominously overhead.

Inside the Crimson Sky, time seems to go slower and the night is permanent; the Sun never been allowed to touch this cold land. This discrepancy means that staying for extended periods of time in the Crimson Sky is a taxing task for humans. The contrary is valid as well, since most Youkai can't survive on the Human World for extended periods of time; their Spiritual Power slowly drained, making then disappear little by little, this being the prime cause of Youkai attacks on humans to steal their Spiritual Power for themselves allowing for a continued existence on the Human World.

Youkai

Denizens of the Crimson Sky, the Youkai are beings composed primarily of Spiritual Power and can come in all shapes and forms, though, most assume the guise of humanity, even if temporarily. They follow a flimsy hierarchy that is based on each individual's power level, which is turn is based mostly on said individual's age, meaning that the older a Youkai is, the more on top of the Crimson Sky's food chain they are likely to be.

Demon Hunters

The eight original clans of warriors dedicated to hunting down the threat represented by the Youkai. Each clan had a specific inherited skill that was passed down their generations to assist in their fight against the forces of the Crimson Sky. These days the descendants of these clans are rare and few in between thanks to the spontaneous appearance of the individuals known as Chasers, even so their abilities surpass those of a normal Chaser by orders of magnitude.

The Asamiya Clan

One of the original Demon Hunter clans, known for their large reserves of Spiritual Power and special eyes that are the source of their psychic powers. The Asamiya are also known for having a matriarchal structure within their clan, since their magical eyes only manifest on female members of the family, who by tradition, wear some form of red neckwear to denote their status as members of the Asamiya clan. Elemental Affinity: Fire.

Reiko Asamiya [WIP]

A renegade member of the Asamiya clan, known as the Scarlet Sage or the World’s Strongest Mage (though this is a self-declared title), Reiko is a woman of infamous temperament and even more infamous exploits. She was born as the most spiritually powerful member of her clan in generations, but had no psychic powers at all, allowing her to study magic.

Even young Reiko was an unsurpassed genius, but perhaps that much inherent talent made her grow too prideful, or maybe it were the other members of her clan that couldn't understand Reiko's nature the true reason doesn't matter. What does matter is that Reiko had a serious falling with her grandmother, the Asamiya matriarch, Ginko Asamiya, over something related to Reiko's adopted younger sister, Tsubaki Asamiya (formerly Tsubaki Yozora) the last surviving member of the Yozora clan of Demon Hunters, and Reiko's true younger sibling Kaede Asamiya, a shunned girl that wasn't comprehended because she was too powerful to completely control herself.

After this, Reiko decided to leave the world of the supernatural for good and enrolled in a college where she majored in Philosophy, then getting a Master's Degree at Western Philosophy. Tsubaki, who up to that point greatly admired Reiko was heartbroken by this decision and never again could speak with, or look at, Reiko like she used to. Kaede didn't resented Reiko, even if this issue caused her to be banished from the clan as well, but went missing and neither of the siblings heard of one another for years. It wouldn't be long before Tsubaki learned of the truth and abandoned the Asamiya clan as well, leaving them for dead, one more Demon Hunter clan marked for extinction, but neither of the three would ever care for it.

Reiko's return to the world of the Demon Hunters and the creation of her private joint, known as the Crimson Veil, would come upon Reiko catching wind of Tsubaki's mysterious death and clues about Kaede's whereabouts.
