Cool! I'll start pulling something together! I've got a few ideas in the works. Last time I put up a interest check there wasn't a response at all, so I figured I'd see if there was even an interest in the fandom before I got too invested.
A captured princess's last act as the egg-bearer is to send her charge to safety, but her magic isn't quite strong enough. The blue treasure lands in The Spine, where it will be found by a young human boy.
Elsewhere a human sorcerer flees from a small town in the middle of the Empire, running for his life. He is hunted by agents of the king for his knowledge of a dangerous secret, and to protect this secret, the sorcerer risks everything and loses. The agents find nothing helpful on his body and reluctantly return to the king empty handed.
October 10th, Year 7999 AC:
In the village of Carvahall, a blue stone cracks open, and a dragon reveals herself to her rider.
Further to the south, a small village known as Mashal lies on the western banks of the Ramr River. On the outskirts, the wards around an abandoned hut have failed, it's contents open for anyone to find. Sitting on a nearly bare desk is a letter;
I have found something incredible, and it will change everything in the Empire! The king was not so thorough as we thought, and his mistake will be his undoing. I need you to come to Mashal as soon as you can, I cannot protect this treasure alone. I fear my letter to the elves was intercepted, we don't have much time, if you don't arrive before the ninth month ends I will be forced to assume the worst and continue without you.
I cannot stress enough how important it is that you come. Know that what I have discovered here is too dangerous to put into words that might be found by the king's agents. You once told me you wanted to leave his service, this is that time.
Meet me outside the village, I do not wish to endanger the smallfolk by associating with them and drawing the king's ire.
The letter appears unfinished, and there is no name to identify who the receiver was meant to be, though near the bottom is a signed name of the writer.
OOC:
I had a few ideas kicking around for this, but in the end I decided to stick with what we know and love; the story of Eragon and Dragon Riders. The occupants of the made up town called Mashal, or a few of them at least, will discover the hut and the letter within. A curious exploration of the hut will reveal a wall that swings open like a door and a staircase that leads down a tunnel. Within the tunnel will be a secret cache of dragon eggs and a few notes from the rider that put them there. I didn't want to spoil even that much, but that's only the beginning and there's plenty more to the story than that planned.
The dates give us a timeline so we know what's happening where, up until the changes of our character's presence start influencing things anyway. I plan to keep up with the dates in the roleplay as well, so we can be sure of when we are.
There are plenty of resources online for the timeline, the ancient language, and magic, so it shouldn't be difficult to keep our facts straight. That said, this is a fan work and the canon isn't perfect or fully fleshed, so straying here and there, making up a few words for the ancient language or a town or something, that's all fine.
Character Sheet:
Name: First "Nickname" Surname
Gender: Male, Female, Other
Age: Relative to Species
Species: For now we should maybe keep to humans, we'll be seeing enough of dwarves and elves to collect them into our group as we please.
Appearance: An image, description, or both.
Personality: Self Explanatory
History: Anyone from the town will probably know each other, so interweaving character histories isn't a bad thing.
Keep this one in your back pocket, it's not needed right away seeing as we start pre-dragons.
Name: Self Explanatory
Gender: Male, Female, Other
Age: Zero. Or a hundred. Depends on if being in an egg counts as age.
Egg's Appearance: Relative to scales
Hatched Appearance: Any age can do, you don't join a rolpelaying site without an imagination, so we can visualize a miniature or grown version, feel free to include both baby and adult.
Personality: Should mesh well with their riders personality.
At some point we should make a quest of breaking into Galbatorix's treasure room to recover Rider swords(since they almost can't be made anymore). It's a difficult thing to do, but it's something we know isn't impossible. And if we do it before Galby realizes there are a few extra riders around, his attention would likely be elsewhere.
EDIT: Or else we should find another excuse to acquire some.
Cool stuff, are you also going to play a rider? Or only the dragon? If you play both, we can just trade roles. Or, if more people are interested in this kind of thing, we can mix and match, and people can just play each other's dragons.
I've made the thread, I should have my own character's thread up sometime today. In the meantime, the mixing of riders and dragons sounds like a great idea! I'm up to participate as well, but for those who want to play both, or don't want to be riders at all, the option is open to you!
