Clara Kahrin

Clara awoke from her restless sleep to the sound of the camp's horn blaring across the cabins. She groggily sat up, which led to her head crashing into the bed above her. She still wasn't used to the whole bunk-bed thing. Clara reached for the nightstand, where she laid her father's locket the previous night. She let a tear slip from her eyes, the memory of her father's death still fresh in her mind.

"Hey, Clara, you ready to go to breakfast?" Her bunk-mate asked from above.

Clara quickly regained her composure, forgetting that she now shared a room with several others. Apparently they were all half-siblings. She had found out yesterday that her mother was the goddess Athena. It came as quite a shock to learn that everything she had been taught about Greek mythology was actually true.

"Yeah, I'll meet you there." She stepped into the shoes at her bedside, and headed for the door. She was still wearing the same clothes she had on from the previous day; the camp hadn't yet provided her with any fresh clothes.

Austin was typing on his office type writing when the horn sounded off, he barely looked up before he continued to write. "Almost done....." He said to himself ask his door was thrown open. In walked a man in a leopard skin jacket drinking a diet coke, he looked around with a bored expression before speaking to the young journalist.

"The horn sounded, Winstin." He said getting his name wrong.

"Good for you, go try to drink some wine." He sassed the camp director with out looking up, "I'm almost done with the paper, just gotta finish-"

"Winstin I could turn you into a pile of leaves if I wanted to." He interrupted the journalist, "The horn sounded. Get going."

He didn't respond, instead he wrote faster before the type writer made a loud /DING/ "There we go, paper is finished and should be out to the cabins in 15 minutes." He looked at the man, "If you did do that, by the way, you would have a riot on your hands. You know the kids love my papers." He said standing up, grabbing his bag and putting on his cap, "Besides, who are you gonna watch drink wine if I'm gone?" He winked at the man before hurrying out the doors.

Clara Kahrin

Clara stepped out into the cool spring air. Her golden hair was tossed around by the light breeze. Clara crossed the campgrounds quickly. She still felt out of place, like everyone was laughing at her behind her back. Most of these people had been here for years, and naturally, cliques had formed.

She arrived at the Mess Hall, where the majority of the campers had already sat down with their friends. She went to the line forming at the back of the room. Clara stood awkwardly behind a rather tall, intimidating man. He looked at her, and offered a slight, half-smile.

"Ares. You?"

Clara's expression turned into one of confusion for a moment before his question had a chance to process. "Sorry, I'm kind of new to this whole thing. My mother was Athena," she said.

The boy let out a bellowing laugh. "Good luck in the tournament this afternoon. Gods know you'll need it." He turned back to his friends, leaving Clara to stew over what he had just said. Tournament? She was never told of any tournament.
