Name: Shimazu Yuki, the Demon of Satsuma
Age: 31
Job Class: Samurai (Daimyo's Daughter)
Weapon: An odachi. One that is... particularly large, with the blade alone longer than the height of basically anyone in Japan. She's quite proud of having a sword with a blade over six feet long, really. She also has a more... normal katana as a backup. In case, you know, there's a roof or something.
Clothing:
Fancy, fancy clothes.Height: 5'10.
Appearance: Same as above... only with a pretty nasty scar going across her face. Right eye? Well, the lid's sewn shut, so it's a safe bet there's nothing there any more. And speaking of injuries: right arm? Not there. At all. Something, at some point, cut it off.
Personality: Yuki... is basically a berserker. She fights, gets really into it, and then almost nobody is safe before she's calmed down a bit--
almost nobody, because she's learned to tame the actual berserker rage to a more safe level. Still, in most cases, she's better off fighting alone; strangers will just get dragged into the carnage. Outside of fighting... she's still pretty much a rampaging nordic berserker in the entirely wrong timeframe. Drink, pick a fight, sleep from exhaustion; rinse and repeat until done.
And none of this prepares the few people that do get to know her for how damn
spiky she is. Trying to get close to Yuki is like wading through a lake of thorns, as she
hates emotional closeness. Almost as much as physical; getting within arms' reach of her is asking to be attacked. She avoids crowded areas like the plague, unsurprisingly.
History: When she was younger, Yuki was the only child of the Daimyo--and then, after two more daughters, it became very, painfully, obvious that they'd better prepare someone to take over when her father died... so she got taught to fight. And she liked it, taking to it like a duck to water. She even made friends with quite a few boys; she had more in common with them than her own sisters. And then... rebellion. People revolting against the idea that this small region of Kyushu could fall under her control. By this point, she had more pride than was safe, and refused to take this insult: she'd prove she was capable enough.
So, one girl against an army. It should have been a slaughter. It was, but in the wrong direction. With the terrain in her favour, and her opponents at first sticking to the idea of honourable single combat, it was almost too easy. Then? She got piled on. Somehow, through some sort of stroke of luck, miracle, or just sheer stubbornness, Yuki
won. At a cost. Her arm, her eye, any chance of not having her weaker side scarred from the wounds--all gone. And, of course, many of the people she'd grown up with, and remembered as children.
Things kept sliding downhill from there. Arranged marriage, treating her as a poor-quality slab of meat? That... was stopped by the expedient of a bandage-covered girl shoving a naginata through the table and breaking the guy's arm. This repeated a few times. One of them thought to try assassination for being spurned in such a way. The assassin's head was thrown at the master's feet, just before his joined it. Enough was enough, and she found an excuse at the age of 22 to head to the Imperial court, and fritter away her life drinking and fighting off whatever challengers showed up. Her opinion of men has reached rock bottom: too many disparaging remarks even with her reputation, her own friends' turning on her as 'unsuitable', and trying to use her as a bargaining chip. Not good.
Strengths:
- Uncanny Swordsmanship: She's missing an arm. She's also capable of wielding her monster of a blade with all the skill you'd expect of a master of a normal sword using both hands. It's an ability that gets eerily close to what would be considered magic: Yuki doesn't worry about losing because, against everyone she's fought thus far, it's not an issue.
- Physical Endurance: A combination of stamina, pain tolerance, and alcohol tolerance. She can take... a lot before things wear her down.
- Strength: Giant sword. One-handed. Go on, do the maths.
- Minor Demonic Descent: Probably explaining how she hasn't bled to death yet, this factors into it on the maternal side (go back three generations). Combined with good genes, Yuki still looks in her early twenties.
Weakness:
- Arrogance: Prod her ego a bit and you'll get Yuki to do almost anything, no matter how stupid it is, with complete self-assurance. This also leads to rather... half-hearted fights with any random person she encounters.
- Addiction: Go on, try and get her to stop drinking. Good luck.
- Temper: She's also really easy to goad, too.
- Blind-Sided: If you're quiet, it's not that difficult to sneak up on her right-hand side, and then there's very little that she can actually do in response before getting struck. She spends a hell of a lot of a fight turning around, even if it's not necessary, as a result... which also doesn't really help.
- Reach: Letting an opponent get in too close makes it a hell of a lot harder for Yuki to fight with her favoured weapon. She's good with a normal sword, but her focus is on the odachi; the balance of a normal sword actually makes her a lot easier to fight. She's trained with a naginata and spear, too (also a bow, but that's kind of useless) but sees no reason for them over her sword.
[*]Alcohol: One way or the other, the mental effects carry over to the physical. Messed up reactions and balance if drunk, a bitch of a headache and light sensitivity if not, and if you keep her away from it that's not going to help.
Likes: Food, Drink, Fighting.
Dislikes: Closeness, Sobriety, Men, Cowardice, Boredom, sleeping.
Dream: To stop having nightmares.
Fear:
Running out of booze. Having to fight anyone she cares about. Again.
