Welcome to The Walking Dead, Miami. We are planning for two main groups, one based around an asylum, and one based around a boat, like a yacht or shipping vessel. Slots are currently open and accepting. The players will be a group with a little chemistry and a small amount of resources, the group will have to hunt and scavenge food, supplies, ammunition, fuel. Survival will be part of it, but not just keeping the zombies form killing you, but also dealing with starvation, hunger, hyper/hypothermia, and so on. How will these rag-tag survivors handle this new world they've been thrust into. More information is to follow, and documents will be added.
The camcorder in your hand still has enough power to run the electronics, found laying on one of the docks of the marinas. The picture is shaky and unfocused at first. Whoever was filming was probably some Youtube amateur, but the image resolves decently enough. The bleary image shows a glance of afternoon sky with a few pillars of greasy black smoke stabbing upward against the blue and the white clouds. The video appears to be shot on a flat rooftop, and the view settles down on a young blond woman crouched down behind a low wall. She peers over it for a moment, before scrunching back down. Fear and shock are wild in her wide eyes, and she has a crowbar in a death grip.
"You get that cam working yet," she asks in a hiss, turning her attention to the camera. The shot bobs up and down a little, seemingly as the cameraman nods. Maybe it was a helmet cam or on a hat. The lady looks into the lens, appearing to gather her courage. After a moment she speaks into the camera, "My name is Jamie West. I'm a retail customer service rep... er I was one anyway. My friend David is working the camera. We... we thought... someone should make a record of this." Jamie pauses and shudders. "It's the end of the end of the world. Show 'em."
The camera peeks over the low wall, showing a typical street that could be any town at all. It's immediately obvious that things are not right. The four-lane street is littered with stalled cars, many of them twisted and busted. A couple of them burn or smoulder. The tail end of a large dump truck juts out form a storefront down the street it had careened into. A car alarm wails nearby, echoing among the buildings, and the faint sounds of sirens, screams, and gunfire could be picked up in the distance, with the deeper boom of an explosion every once in a while. People are milling about on the street, staggering and limping along. The camera zooms in on a group. It finds a few people who have empty, slack-jawed expressions. Many have wounds, some seemingly fatal, and many of them have hands and mouths caked in fresh or dried blood.
"They aren't people, not anymore," Jami says softly, and the camera swings back to her again. She's looking down at the street below still clutching her crowbar. "They used to be people, but that's all gone. They're just monsters now." Green eyes look back into the camera again with a grim expression. "They're the walking dead. Zombies."
"It happened fast. Stories started cropping up all over the globe. Miami, New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, France... Everywhere. Emergency services tried to get a handle on it, but within three days they were overrun. Hospitals were breeding grounds for the dead, as were schools, malls, civic centers. People flocked to churches and the walkers just followed them." Jamie shook her head. "Once you're bit, or scratched, it's a matter of time. The fever, the delerium... It can take hours or days, but you go down. Some people get back up in minutes, others, hours. Never know how much time it will take."
"A lot of people died," Jami continues, "I'm not talking about cars and place crashes and all that. Besides the fever killing so many.. if one of them catch you, they kill you. They just bite and tear into you like animals. I've seen it. They kill you, and you become one of them. It's like an infection. They're slow and they're stupid, but they're everywhere. Before the power died, the TV news... well... Maybe it's the whole world by now."
Jami looks over the wall again, and the camera follows. There appear to be even more of the walkers ambling down the street. A group are gathered around a crashed car. Their fists hammer at the windows, finally shattering the windshield. The camera zooms in as the dead pull a screaming man from the car, dragging him to the ground. The sound of terror mixes with bubbling agony, before stopping after a minute.
"The police aren't coming," Jami murmurs as the cluster of zombies begin to disperse. As she continues the mangled body of the man they pulled from the wreckage sits up and slowly gets to foot after a little bit of time. "The army isn't coming. Nobody is coming to save you. If you want to live, you run, and you fight them when you have to. They're monsters, but they aren't invincible. Aim for their heads, crack their skulls. They tend to stay down like that. Cutting off the head works too."
"There's more coming from over the mall," says a low, deep voice from off-camera, presumably David. "We need to get out of here, out of Miami, now."
"Right," Jami replies as the cam turns to her once more. She looks into the lens, looking more determined and composed now. "We'll find more people. We'll band together, and put these monsters in the ground where they belong. It may be the end of the world, but we're not going down without a fight."
A moment later the video glitches and goes black.

((Special Mention)) Do NOT make a sociopath unless you can explain in no uncertain terms, exactly how they became that way, why they became that way, how they operate, what things set them off, what they value, AND it had better work/make sense. I do not want a thinly veiled Dexter Morgan clone from the series Dexter. I've seen it more than once here. If you're going to make a sociopath or psychopath, make sure you have them wired down tight.

3. No fighting in the OOC or you will be kicked.

5. All injuries should be realistic, example if a character sprains their ankle it should slow them down and be painful to walk on and would take time to heal. Guns are deadly.
6. Most have one disability or fear, can be anything you can think of no one is perfect.
7. Most importantly have fun!
8. If a player drops and their character is removed from play, there is a chance they may be re-encountered as a zombie or a corpse. If so their equipment may be up for grabs. If a walker, they may be an adversary survivors may have to face. If a player wishes to bow out and decides to do so "on screen/in play" then their fate can be determined by the player. Walking off into the sunset may be acceptable, and they might be able to return as a character later on, depending on the circumstances. Characters dropped or abandoned by players may also become NPC's and used as such for a variety of purposes. Just because the player left them behind, doesn't mean they aren't still out there in one form or another.

Asylum notes: The asylum dates back to 1915, it served for quite a number of years as a sanitarium and psychiatric ward. Due to hurricanes repeatedly bashing it, the place became run down. A lot of patients were removed either by their family or case workers. In an attempt to revitalize the business (it is a business after all) they applied for renovation funding with the state. They were awarded a good sum of funding and construction began. Many of the patients were removed, but some of the more docile and clearer ones were allowed to stay if they chose. The place ran on minimal staffing, nothing more than a skeleton crew. It was a relief for some, and they did have the ability to get way from the banging and sawing and noise.
The new construction seems to be building on the old which had been built quite sturdy to begin with. Construction crew abandoned the project as soon as the outbreak started, seeking to get home to their families. A couple staff members may still be there, looking after the small population left over, no more than five or six... However.. they might have been overrun and turned into walkers. The staff could have fled, and could have taken the few remaining residents with them to somewhere else.
I do intend for there to be a grounds keeper/landscaper still on the property, holed up in a small workshop, sectioned off. The entire compound is surrounded by a chain link fence, topped with barbed wire angled in and out on the top. There's also an iron square tube bar fence running around the property set into a low one foot wall of brick and concrete,, with two-foot high crenelations every ten feet. It's decorative in look, but it's hard to climb, even for the living. The top features arrow or spear type tips an inch or so wide and about two inches long. Not exactly sharp on the edges but the points would not be fun to slip onto. This fence, again, is hard to climb, is much sturdier than the cyclone fence, and could possibly hook and slow down any geek that did manage to get to the top. Fence is 10', both of them. There's an iron gate at the front with a buzzer, but that's not active now and would need to be secured with a chain and lock or carabiner or something.
Also, if power can be restored, there are security cameras inside and outside the building. There are some radios too, some food supplies, water, showers, so on. There is a generator on site. If it's run on natural gas it could still be operational, or you might have to find some fuel for it if not.
As has been stated in other parts, the Asylum was under renovation, so it is likely there are tools on site, such as sledge hammers, saws, nail guns (electrical, battery powered, or compressed air), as well as nails, hammers, possibly crowbars, saws (power and hand), and more. --- Update on fencing, just so everybody is on the same page. The spiked fence here, I would say the poles are set into the concrete, making the fencing even stronger. In looking at the fence, I think the Asylum group could possibly defend the perimeter quite nicely atop the platforms with something like axes, bats, maces..anything that gave them a decent reach. Geeks couldn't reach them, but the group could reach the geeks and knock 'em out one by one. Of course, you could always spear through the fence too.
The main gate is decorative but made out of the same material and is flanked by a guard shack and visitor check-in building
The chain link fence about ten feet or more behind the main exterior fence is just a typical perimeter fence.

Appearance: Nein is an unremarkable Sullustian to look at, other than he seems a little more gaunt than most, but for most humans it might be hard to tell that because as a race, Sullustians are a heavy-set race. Almost always does he carry several kits with him, making him look like some sort of repair man, but his clothes are always neat, his manner precise, as is his speech. Carried with him are always several styluses, as well as a number of mediums to record information on, from flimsiplast prints, to his datapad. His large eyes always give him a slightly surprised expression, as if life itself was full of mystery and surprise at every turn.
Personality: Nien’s upbringing, education, and intelligence give him a thirst for life, and knowledge that is rivaled by only a few, but instead of cloistering himself in data-libraries all the time, he prefers hands-on experience, and experimentation. Finding one’s own mind to be the best teacher, this is the route he prefers. Quick to indulge, but never to excess, he makes life as best as he can, having long ago realized how short and bland it is, without taking the time to experience it as well. Combined with his appearance, and his light demeanor, one would find it hard to guess on a random meeting that he was one of the galaxy’s foremost weapons and warship designers.
Occupation: Nien is a tech-specialist, specifically in the area of weapons and starship design. Can design anything from a vibro-blade, to doomsday weapons, though he doesn’t have the ability to build anything on that scale. The biggest he could build alone is a capital-class weapon, such as a heavy turbo-laser, Mag-Pulse Cannon, or the like.
As for ships, he can design anything form the size of a speeder-bike, to a Super-Dreadnaught. Again, making anything larger would be out of his scale, without fellow researchers of the same caliber.

Brief History: Nien Sonda was born on Sullust. It was one of the worlds that did not survive the Vong War so unscathed as others. It didn’t take it the worst, but didn’t weather it the best either. Many pilots work the galaxy’s trade routes as pilots, be they legit or otherwise. Nien was different though. He was always looking for solutions to problems, rather than simply marking time. He was possessed of an inquisitive mind, and curiosity that would make some feline races look self-absorbed. His parents always fed his curiosity, and encouraged him to learn by trying and doing.
Once his regular education was finished, he traveled to several technical colleges, and had quite the ride, fast-tracking into many classes that according to his age should have been out of his reach. Being of a very sharp mind, he put himself through colleges on his own, through various HoloNet scams, as well as applying for governmental aid from several governments, businesses, and foundations.
Graduating and completing numerous degrees, he began to garner resources, using his cashflow to create even more revinue to support himself as he began to design ships and technology, submitting them to companies like Merr-Sonn, Taim & Bak, Slayin & Korpal, Kuat Drive Yards, and many numerous planetary and subsidiary shipyards. It wasn’t long before his success began to pay off, and now over time, his works are very sought after.
Currently, he is adrift, or at least that’s the rumor. He was last spotted along Belkadan, and seemed to be checking on several holdings there. Who’s to say what he is really doing though.

With myriad faces coming through her life, and being the middle child she is good at making friends. Often she prefers to make new friends rather than enemies. History:
Jahzra was born in a small town, a farming community really, that provided food for the region. Her parents were low-middle class, and worked as handlers for the automated farms, keeping the machinery in good repair. Padella did as best she could, along with her husband Kigios, but often Jahz was left in the care of her older sister Drakina. Years later her younger brother, Okrend would come along. Jahz spent much of her time playing on farmland and helping her parents with repairs to the droids, or machinery. This gave her something of a tomboy upbringing but makes her naturally good with her hands, machinery, and technology. And as always there was education, but the Zeltron education system was more loose, having both public, private, and self-education systems. She did reasonably well, at least until Kigios seemed to up and vanish a short time after Okrend was born.
This left him in the care of his older sisters, though more of Drakina’s than Jahzra’s. Resenting her father’s leaving, she, of course, flaked out and began to slip in her education some. Being left on her own much more, she began to develop a strong independent streak, which only began to increase as she began to blossom and fill out as a woman with the onset of puberty at roughly thirteen to fourteen. IT was then she began to get into risky behaviors, hanging out with the ‘wrong’ crowd. She had her first drink around then, and soon enough found she liked it. Not long after, she lost, or gave up to her virginity to an older guy who seemed to have all the right answers, knew the right things to say. Unfortunately, a week later she was left on her own. Attempting to shrug off the devastation and take an edge off everything, she turned to drinking, and a couple of party drugs she’d heard from. It was fun, and for a time she was able to maintain an even keel, focusing on school when she could, but also hanging out with her friends. Before long she was busted and grounded.
Chaffing at restriction she went to ignoring them and would sneak out, or just not come home until the early hours of the morning. Her classwork didn’t seem to suffer and was pretty spot on. It was clear that Jahzra was a smart girl. Perhaps more than any of her family would have guessed. Soon after she was able to acquire a skyhopper to go along with the small swoop she’d managed to finagle from a friend. She discovered she had a love of flying and was good at it. She began to get into races here and there, another risky activity.
Eventually, her mother was at a loss and kicked her out. It was emotional and painful for all, but Jahz committed to being on her own. For a while, she couch-surfed with friends, or with her large, extended family. Graduating out of the education system early she turned to partying here and there and making money by what means she could, from bets and gambling to making deals, and at a couple of points, taking a package from one place to another, and occasionally trading favors for money. Eventually, she was making deliveries quite a bit.
Tragedy struck though as one race in her skyhopper resulted in a collision with lumbering hover truck that was hauling garbage. She’d been bumped by a rival racer and as she tried to avoid with a clever dive, it had clipped the top fin of her speeder sending it spinning crazily, tumbling into traffic. Thankfully no other vehicles were hit, but she did crash into the side of a building. She awoke days later in the hospital after being dunked in a bacta tank a few times. With no real money to pay for her medical bills, and no one she could really turn to… and law enforcement likely about to be breathing down her neck, Jahz was miserable secondary to any physical pain she might have felt.
So it was that she found herself approached by a man named Scardon Orsan. He met her in that hospital room and sat on her bed. He’d taken the time to learn who she was, and talk to her folks, and friends. He’d owned the building, and the hover truck she’d hit. He was a wealthy businessman on Zeltros. Immediately she worried he was going to press charges, but he gently explained that he wasn’t. Instead, he offered something incredible. Her medical bills were covered, charges dropped. He took her to the side and began helping her get her life cleaned up. He saw potential in her and worked to make her more. He took her basic street scrapping skills and had her taught real fighting skills. He taught her how to handle herself in a fight. And he made her one of his couriers, delivering protected cargo from one place to another. First, it was just across the planet, and then soon, he saw to her delivering from system to system. For the next several years, she worked for Orsan.
During that time, she found herself falling in love with a man by the name of Calerick Hyndval. Cale wound up sweeping her off her feet. The man cared little about her sordid past and enjoyed her unusual lifestyle. It wasn’t until a half a year in, that once more tragedy found her. They were making a run for Orsan, and an Imperial patrol jumped in on them. They attempted to talk their way past but the picket ship opened up in the courier vessel. It had relatively light shields and only one weapon. Jahz attempted to flee while Cale took the gunwale. A turbolaser blast struck the gunwale in the escape, killing, if not vaporizing her fiance in an instant.
The ship made it to lightspeed moments later. Only to discover the horror of what was left of her lover. Devastated she could barely function to make the rest of the trip. Holding herself responsible - should have been faster, should have rolled to take the shot on fresher shields… - Jahz retreated into herself. Eventually, she left Orsan and his organization. The ship she’d flown for years had been designed to suit her, but with such a traumatic memory she put it in dry storage and for a time left it behind. She still seeks to pay Orsan back for the vessel, repairs, and hospital bills, though he has explained to her she has nothing to pay him back for.
After all these years, Orsan is much like the father she never had and wished her own had been. Kind, generous, but also firm, and often able to guide. But now, she has been wandering the spacelanes on her own. This was a year or two back. Perhaps now she can find new work, for a new boss.
