The Ver’Kav expedition … The largest risk the Tau empire had ever taken.
In 42M after word of what had transpired in the Imperium had reached the ears of the Tau Empire a meeting was immediately called between all the most renowned admirals, commanders and Ethereals was held, focusing on what the Tau Empire should do. The meeting lasted many weeks debating on what course of action would be best until a decision was finally made. They would send out large expeditionary fleets with the intent on gaining a stronger foothold toward imperial space and to gain more information on the happenings in the universe.
Five expeditions were planned, the largest of these, by far, was the Ver’Kav expedition, it was agreed this expedition would be lead by Shas’O Kalis. It’s goal was to head towards the Segmentum Tempestus before changing course towards the Segmentum Solar. Once there it was their goal to enlighten as many worlds as possible towards the greater good aswell as attempting to dislodge the imperial presence in the Segmentum. The journey was a hard and long one, taking a considerable ammount of time to move around on their journey towards the Segmentum, the journey taking it’s toll upon the men of the expedition. After an excruciating journey they would finally arrive, a few saying they only made the journey due to Kalis’ sheer willpower.
After arriving they travelled to the nearest sector, managing to convert it surprisingly fast. This however caught the attention of the local space marine chapter, The Golden Vindicators. The Vindicators, infamous for disregarding the Codex Astartes and for their poor quality of Marines, would lead a fullscale attack against the Tau occupying the sector. The Vindicators however were outnumbered 200 to 1 and were quickly surrounded and then massacred by the Tau and their new Gue’vesa allies. This was not to say the Vindicators went down without a fight, taking with them an enormous ammount of Tau forces with them in the battle. In a last stand, they prepared their ultimate weapon. Their remaining fleet ships were sabotaged as to cause a mass explosion before being sent towards the Tau fleet. The outcome was a terrible loss, loosing half over half their expedition force and badly damaging the remnants. The casualties were tremendous and among the dead bodies and wrecks of ships was the body of Shas’O Kalis and the Flagship ‘’New Hope’’.
After this catastrophic event the upper-echelon of the remaining forces held a counsel where they would choose their new leader. After a rather short meeting Kor’O Bloodwave decided upon the Shas’el Fireblade known as Tyr’vu as their new commander.
Lacking the resources required to fully repair their fleet or go back home they can do nothing but press on in this grimdark world in hopes of finding a solution.
Note: In case you don't think this one is good enough, I could also make an Alpha Legion one. :) I've never done Alpha legion before in one of these which is why I went with Tau but I could try. :3
