Kai would consider himself to be fairly attractive, though he’s way too modest to openly admit it. He comes from a long line of short to average-height people. Whether this is the Chinese-American side his mother brings to his genetic table or the European, Pacific Islander mix his father has given him, Kai’s overall visage is that of average height for a growing male teenager like himself. He stands no taller than 5’8 and due to his lean body type, he weighs no more than 155lbs. He has long dark brown hair that comes to a stop near his upper-back. He sometimes keeps it unkempt, but usually, he’ll have it in some form of a ponytail just so that it doesn’t get in the way with anything he’s doing or so he doesn’t look like a teen vogue model (even though he kind of does).
One of Kai’s most distinct features is his eyebrows. Almost instantaneously, if someone had to identify Kai with something other than his long hair, it would be how his eyebrows and overall facial shape around his eyes. His eyebrows have an odd thickness about them in the hair count. His eyes are also slanted a bit (more so than how most Asian eyes tend to slant somewhat).

Though it might depend on the season, Kai surely prefers to abide by a casual and comfortable style. This could take up various forms, of course, but more often than not, he’ll opt for shorts, some sort of tank top or loose-fitting shirts, and shoes and/or sandals (again, it depends on the season). Indoors, Kai will take up sweats and nothing more, though he may wear a shirt or a robe if he’s feeling fancy. This just comes from his own personal preference.

▼ | PERSONALITY TRAITS : |
Overtly Positive and Optimistic ♦ Energetic ♦ Friendly ♦ Engaging ♦ Often Clueless ♦ Annoyingly Positive ♦ Doesn’t know when to shut up ♦ Has absence of fear/reckless ♦ No self-control ♦ Somewhat rebellious
First impressions are often more substantial than the opinions one makes about another over time. And the usual first impression just about anyone will immediately get from Kai is, sure he is quite friendly and nothing is too off-putting about him. He has a sunny disposition and has a smile that’s an acquired taste, but with enough spent with him, one of two things happen: EIther you learn to love his quirks and off-beat nature or he’ll end up being someone you dislike immensely and cringe whenever he speaks, enters a room, or someone mentions his name.
This is Kai Parata. And do not be mistaken. The smile is the least of what makes Kai such a colorful character. The way he speaks which, though it is with a slight southern tang due to his residence in the south for more than seven years, the tone of his voice has a bit of a Chinese accent. Some of his words break and he can’t pronounce certain words and phrases. In addition to that, he often just says things that probably don’t make any sense. It might be slang from a village that Kai might know family from or it just might be the kind of thing he thinks makes sense and that’s all there is to it. Whichever the case, he definitely bullshits his way through most conversations and does so with a cheek-to-cheek grin on his face.
Kai’s a free spirit and a lover of all things extreme, reckless, and, whatever gets his blood pumping. This side of him certainly makes for an exciting, very outgoing person but it also could put a bit of a strain on those who either don’t want to be roped in with whatever Kai’s trying to get them to do or the rules. This is another reason why Kai Parata is an acquired taste. It will certainly be a good time with the possibility of no alcohol required, but there’s also a possibility that Kai's recklessness could make a bad situation even worse. There’s also a possibility he could do something that may put lives at risk - what with his power over air and his need for danger. Kai also lacks a particular trait of self-control that most have that would help them recognize when it’s time to stop being silly or reckless and actually use your brain. Kai does not possess such a trait and thus gets himself into more trouble than he should be.
At the end of the day, Kai’s a good time and is all smiles, but when worst comes to worse, he might have too much energy and too high of a spirit to be confined to certain rules most establishments have. On the upside of things, at least people can’t say they won’t know who he is.
“Oh, Kai? Yeah, he’s that crazy bastard who ran naked through the football field.”
Yeah, that’s Kai Parata.

▼ | SKILLS : |
▼ | BACK STORY : |
Athletic // Kai is quite the athlete and extreme sports junky (not necessarily a skill but a fact about him nonetheless). Between his two main hobbies of parkour and surfing (sometimes the two go hand in hand), Kai possesses what a lot refer to as “the athletic gene”. It’s a fancy way of saying that he’s able to stand up with the rest of the teens his age that aren’t slobs or embody the sin of sloth. He may also be able to handle himself in a fight should it come to that, but it’s not exactly a shining talent. One thing to note is that Kai can take a punch more than he can give a punch - just...don’t expect him to fight a bully for you. It won’t end well for you or him, especially if Kai fails to take any beating that comes his way.
Absolutely Fluent in Bullshittery // A useless talent to some but to Kai, it is a skill he has mastered because he’s the only one who will make sense of it. Whatever comes out of his mouth, even if it’s complete bullshit and it makes no sense at all, to him, whatever he says will make whatever he does (or doesn’t do) not only be completely justified in his mind, but it will also seem like the right thing. His excuses in particular are legendary for being absolute horseshit.
Bilingual ...sorta // The ‘sorta’ comes from Kai’s partial fluency in Chinese (his mother’s native tongue). He speaks English and gibberish (not exactly a real language but it coincides with his bullshittery), but the lessons given to him by tudors have only given him about 45% fluency in Chinese. He can speak coherent sentence when ordering menus or operating in small talk, but if someone expects him to give a lecture or be able to translate for hours, he’s probably going to fail them there.

▼ | BACK STORY : |
Kai, whose birth name is Nikai Jin Parata, was brought into Planet Earth on a surprisingly cool Saturday afternoon in June. He was born to two loving parents who both operate in the business world. His father, born to the name of Nikora Anaru Parata, is a Hawaii-born businessman who used to primarily work out of Berlin, Germany, and his mother, born to the name Jia Chen (Jia Parata after she got married), also used to work from Germany. This is where technically Kai was born, but he didn’t stay there long. Over the course of Kai’s early life, he has lived anywhere from Honolulu, Hawaii, Tokyo Japan, and Beijing, China. Though all three of those major cities had him not even five years old, it was Beijing that Kai was spent a decent chunk of his sixteen years at.
For three years, Kai lived in China and, as one could imagine by his looks (even at a young age), he stuck out even more than he would have in any other place. Though from his mother’s side he is part-Chinese, his mixed ethnic background played a major part in how the other children received him. His unusual behavior caused him a lot of problems both by the instructors and the children he shared classes with. Call it a cliche, but if there’s one thing growing up as the sore thumb in a class of regular fingers, it’s that kids, especially those who had an ax to grind, don’t like anything or anyone that wasn’t a carbon copy of themselves. So for that, Kai was put through hell. It wasn’t daily, but Kai had some run-ins with the neighborhood kids and those who often made fun of him for his eyebrows and how was reasonably darker than most of his classmates.
At some point, before he turned ten, Kai’s father got a job that forced him, his mother, and older sister, Maia to move from Beijing to the southern coast of Florida in a lively town of Palm Beach, Florida. Given that his father got a lucrative job offer to head the science division of the Miami office of The Takanashi Company, a global enterprise that has various subsidiaries, avenues of business (some legal and some not so legal). Given that Nikora had a background in mechanical engineering - well, more like a masters degree in mechanical engineering - he was the perfect fit for this. And along with Jia, who had a doctorate where she specialized in experimental physics, they were named both the co-COO(Chief Operating Officer) of the Science and Research Development Department (often referred to as SRD within the company). Of course, some of what they did was kept really low hushed whispers. Some of which was done didn’t align with what some would find moral, but as long as the pursuit of knowledge is achieved, the ends justified the means.
As his parents got more immersed in their work, their acknowledgment of Kai and Maia was reduced dramatically. It got to the point where they wouldn’t see their parents for weeks and manny and nannies and assigned personnel would take care of them, not Nikora and Jia. It wasn’t that they didn’t love their two children, but given that their work had them spending nights, weekends, and even sometimes full weeks either at the office or away in other countries for business meetings, they didn’t have the time for their children.
As it became painfully obvious they weren’t their parents’ first priority (at least Maia noticed that), it didn’t seem to bother Kai and Maia all that much. Their house was in its own little “town” within Palm Beach known as Crown Heights. It was right near the beach. He wasn’t so sure about it at first, but at some point, he became practically obsessed with the surfing culture of America, particularly those within the southern coast of Florida. Some of the neighborhood kids and some older teens (he was 12 at the time when he found his for surfing). He started out small, of course. He got his first surfboard, learned the basics by learning as he watched the older kids do their thing in the water. Eventually, Kai grew more confident. It started out with him surfing small waves, but by the time he turned fourteen, in addition to surfing and building up his skills there, Kai had found a second passion and that was anything that gave him a sense of adrenaline. Despite his privileged life, Kai immersed himself in contact sports, extreme sports such as windsurfing, skating, and he even started to dabble into parkour a bit. Despite being pretty athletic, Kai’s true love has and always will be surfing. It’s what he’s most passionate about it was what Kai felt he would be doing for his entire life, maybe even making it a career someday.
After what could only be described as bad parenting, Kai's parents who had for so long ignored him and his sister surprise them with their trip to Hawaii. the way they explained it what's that they needed to Bond as a family so they could become closer. Though at least to Maia, it felt like they were doing it not for Kai’s sake or even her sake, but to wipe away all of the abandonment done by them because they chose work over their children, the news of going to Hawaii had Kai feeling all levels of excitement. Anywhere from the speechless stage to the jumping up and down stages, Kai acted every single one of them because Hawaii was one of the places he had always wanted to visit. His dream of becoming a pro surfer started with Hawaii and whether or not he realized what this trip would do to him in the long run didn’t seem to occur to him nor his parents’ reasoning. Before they had left, Kai was gifted a pendant with a crystal-like stone by his mother. She said it was her father’s and she wanted him to have it on his sixteenth birthday. Though it was a few days before he had actually turned sixteen, she wanted him to have it now.
So the Parata family spent an entire week in Hawaii. The parents, though they wanted it to be a bonding experience, yet again proving they were incapable of putting work aside for family time, especially when they had emphasized on family bonding being the whole point of the trip. Instead, like always, they didn’t even realize that Kai and Maia had decided to do some exploring of their own. Unlike the natives of the island, they didn’t know where they were going. After being on their own for an hour or so, Maia wanted to go back, so they did, but before they were even halfway back, they found themselves into some trouble. Some not-so-friendly locals who fixated on the twenty-year-old Maia while pushing Kai aside. Whatever their fixation on her was, Kai knew nothing good could come from it. That’s why he rushed to help her, but they weren’t just mean in the faces but they were a lot bigger than him. That was a fact Kai soon put to the test as he was punched really hard once in the gut and twice in the face. It took a set from all three to send Kai to his back. Bloodied and with possible internal damage, Kai still refused to give up. It was in that moment, as he rushed to his sister’s aid, he literally rushed, though it wasn’t until what happened next did Kai realize exactly what was happening (even then it was hard for him to comprehend).
As wind danced around his legs, Kai’s desperate desire to help his sister seemed to activate something from the pendant. It let off a cool breeze around Kai’s body and whatever it was doing, he didn’t think about it. The only thing he wanted to focus on - the only thing he needed to focus on was saving Maia. A few gusts of wind later and some luck-driven punches later and he sent these bigger men flying in the opposite direction, effectively saving his sister from whatever nasty ideas they had about her. He was on a high but Kai didn’t even know what was happening to him or how he was capable of that. As soon as he thought about it, however, the wind carried him directly into a tree, knocking Kai unconscious. The next thing he realized, he was in a bed with no idea how he got there. Soon, though, Kai would become informed. Apparently, when they got back to the hotel thanks to some of the locals’ help, they were welcomed by the sight of their parents having just met with someone who represented an organization that helped people like Kai.
Kai required additional explanation and so he got it. And even after he was given a detailed explanation, it still didn’t make sense to him. Coming from a guy who often spoke the nonsense, it was weird for him to be in the position he found himself in, yet he was. It had to be dumbed down for him in such a way that Kai could understand.
“You carry on your neck a small fragment of a Delta-Crystal and you, much like your grandparents, are what they call Deltahumans. Don’t worry, Kai, you’ll be okay. You got special powers but you aren’t any different than Maia here. But for the time being, you will be going to a nice and useful academy in South Carolina called Academy 003.”
Those words stuck with Kai for as long as he could remember since being forced to attend this school. Just a few weeks after his dream vacation, Kai was poised to set foot on the grounds of Academy 003. He didn’t like it, but this was his new reality. The only thing that was on his mind, the only thing that seemed to be more pressing than the fact that he has superpowers, was if this town of Charity Hills has beaches because he still wanted to surf as much as he could.

]Wind/Air Manipulation
Simply calling it air manipulation is a crime that Kai will fight anyone on. It's not just a matter of manipulating the air currents that gives him a superhuman powerset. It is, as Kai will say, "the lifeblood of my dream. I was born for this power". To him, the air that he breathes and the career choice that Kai has chosen allowed him the ability to be capable of the things he is capable of. It is something much higher than what some textbook or online communities might say. But with it, Kai has thus far been able to use it to increase his running speed to where he literally is surfing the air, or as he often refers to it "Riding the Waves". He can shoot moderately-sized gusts of wind shaped like very thin tornados or "Wave Bullets" to knock down objects of equal or lesser size. Additionally, he can unleash modestly-powerful gusts of air that, at its full power (something Kai has done only once when saving his sister from those Hawaiian creeps), can send larger people than himself flying several feet in the opposite direction. And though it seems to be an early-stage feat, Kai's been testing out bouts of flight within his ever-evolving skill set of abilities within The Waverider".

▼ | LIMITS : |
In regards to the power itself, the limits placed on Kai are related to how he can only manipulate natural air and not air created by artificial means nor can he generate his own air/wind. As far as his offensive capabiltiies, Kai's gusts of wind and bullets/air/wind attacks can only reach up to speeds high enough to force back people of equal size but has lesser effects on those of larger size. To non-humans, the most it can do is cause partial damage to wood (and not even dense wood at that), but it is nowhere strong enough to cause any serious damage to humans or inanimate objects. In addition, an overuse of one side of his feats will cause him to become winded a lot quicker. consecutive overuse will result in Kai momentarily becoming unable to move. The amount of time this lasts is all depending on the varying levels of how mild/severe/extreme the overuse is: mild renders him paralyzed for three seconds, severe renders him paralyzed for six seconds, and the extreme cases can be anywhere from a minute to an hour, but in that case, he will have lost consciousness due to the stress he put on his body.
As far as the limits placed on him by Kai himself, it all comes down to his own lack of experience and self-control. With wind/air, self-control might not be needed, but in the limits state above, Kai's lack of control of himself and his own actions can cause him to become winded a lot sooner. There's also a carelessness in his personality that can contribute to an accelerated paralysis/unconsciousness when he overexerts his powers.

Kai has a big enemy in one distinct element and that is fire. When air is shot out or is manipulated to allow him to surf the air/run faster, any amount of fire will eventually attach itself to any form of air and the resulting effect of that is the fire will expand and eventually combusting. This effectively renders Kai’s own abilities practically useless against any type of fire-users or fire in general.
Kai does not have an immunity to air, so things like air attacks and razor sharp wind blades will hurt him. He might think they won’t but they will. In addition to everything else, using his own power will cause Kai to lose breath should he use it for prolonged amounts of time. Loss of breath and increased windedness will render him more or less incapable of fighting, let alone being able to defend himself (see specifics in limits).
