Tomato guy is the meme thing people remember from ZeXal, but I'm gonna be real with you, he's not even that bad of a filler duel. Yuma had 3 worse ones in the same span of a few episodes. At least the tomato duel is genuinely hilarious, if only for how incredibly ludicrous the situation is. Can't say the same for soccer kid, construction kiddier, and borderline molester photographer.

Well, I've got no clue about any of that actually. Good to know though. The tomato duel was recommended to me, and I kinda enjoyed watching it, though the conclusion of Yuma liking tomatoes was telegraphed from outer space. That part annoyed me. Will we get the occasional meme NPC in the RPG?
@PKMNB0Y: Don't see Spyral and/or Invoked Dolls up there in the new MR, but I might be wrong. Carrier and Simorgh are busted and won't really be affected by the rule changes, I agree with that. Dragun will hopefully not come out anytime soon though...

Oh how wondrous it is to see so many people watching and posting in this topic. Never though I'd see that after reading the title.
Potatoman reminds me of that tomato guy in ZEXAL... that duel was such a WTF?!-moment...
Like how this turned into a basic refreshing lesson for the rules of the game. Ngl, I was a fan of Master Rule 4 and I'm kinda worried about what Master Rule 5 will do to the meta (build-a-board / break-a-board or lose), but luckily, we don't even need to think about that here, as that's clearly not what duels will be like. Huzzah to that thought.
I can't get behind the whole pack opening thing though, as it adds a lot of random factors into it, which I really dislike. I mean, you can mitigate it by saying something like what webboysurf suggested with a base deck and a list of cards you plan to use down the line, combined with something like a shop where you can turn your cards in for some form of currency, which can be exchanged for cards later on. (Think something like dust in Hearthstone) That would make it not purely random, so people who only pull trash can still get the cards they want, just that they'll have to invest more cards / currency into them than they'd have had to by pulling them from a pack. Of course, trading can also somewhat fix this, but trading with trash is still no good.
Unique cards seem like a good way to build character, represent character development and giving the Decks some flavor. Although I'd not make it mandatory, as not having a specific ace monster to rely on can also suit some characters, if they have more of a 'united we stand' mentality (pun intended) when it comes to their cards.
+1 to everything.
So far I haven't read an idea I couldn't get behind here, so that's nice.
Been playing the game for a good 10 years now, on and off competitively, but never stopped to play casual. I watched some of every anime, but I can't watch any series unless someone drags me to it. I made it to Season 5 of the original one at least!
Would really like a Yu-Gi-Oh! RPG to happen, don't mind if the duels are scripted or not, as long as there is enough interaction outside of duels and an actual plot, I'm (card) game.
Greetings everyone!

I already said hi on the Discord server and was met with quite the warm welcome, so some might already have seen me around. I've been involved in some pbp-RPGs almost a decade ago, and I intend to do so again now. I'm exclusively interested in diceless group RPGs with a custom fantasy setting (Although there are some select fandoms I could give a spin too, I suppose, also any other genre could probably work out), and nothing else. Also I'm a package deal, my gf will sign up in a few days (likely tomorrow) and we'll annoy everyone in any RPG we join. (hopefully not)
Hope I'll find something soon! c:
