There's a difference between the ability to be social, and the desire to be social. I function perfectly fine going outside and talking to people, but that doesn't mean I *like* doing either.

Pilk seems to be trending, so I tried it. Anyone who tells me this is a good drink is no longer a person I wish to associate with.

And when the graves had all been dug, the queen rode out of town.

"W-well, I'm just glad she didn't cause too much trouble," Nico replied to the mysterious girl, looking down and scratching the cat behind its ears. "She's not even mine, really... I've just been seeing her a lot lately. I doubt she's a stray, though... strays don't act this friendly to people."

It really was a curious case. Nico can't recall ever meeting their owner. She'd always just assumed they lived close to her school since the cat usually hung around there, but the both of them were unusually far removed from that area by this point. "Say, have you..." she said, intending to ask a question, upturning her eyes, and pausing. Nico saw it. The symbol. She couldn't before, because it wasn't too large and had been clutched pretty tightly, but between the fingers of this mysterious young woman was a Hex Symbol. Entirely identical to hers. Colour drained from Nico's face because she knew what it meant.

"..."

Silence. Something was caught in her throat. Nico didn't know what to do. Here she'd been, worrying about it just moments before. She took a deep breath and put her kitty down, petting its head. "Its okay. I'll see you later, okay?" she comforted it. Nico crouched, pulled her last snack for it out of her pocket, tore it open and happily watched the cat enjoy herself. It didn't take long to run off after it had finished, and after it looked up to Nico with a bit of confusion. She stood up. Nico didn't face the other girl, she just looked in the direction where the cat had ran off to. "Sorry. You're a magical girl, too, huh?"

Now she looked back.

"I don't feel right hiding it, so..."

Nico pulled out her own Hex Symbol. "I'm Nico Kaneko. It's nice you meet you."
Ayu Usui

A shrill voice pierced the curtain separating the waking world from the subconscious, as it had for the past few days. A set pattern. Consistent, easy to get used to: following the schedule to a T. Not that it was particularly hard to wake up; the only thing comfortable about the current situation, the warmth of another person, had already long removed itself from her presence. She still wasn't used to the bed itself. Still, Ayu didn't feel any resistance from her partner. She could afford to laze a little. Pretend to sleep in, at the very least.

Not with the scream, though. Her eyes flickered open, she groggily pushed herself up on the side of the bed. The girl took a few moments. It had to register in her hazy mind, still. It wasn't hard to draw a conclusion on what happened, but there were several possibilities. The voice... wasn't it from Iclyn? Hard to tell, considering how muffled it wound up due to-

A body has been discovered!"

Ah. Right, that made sense. Everyone was still in the same situation, after all. Ayu brought her thumb to her lip, started biting the nail. Where did that voice come from again...? Not too far, clearly... while her groggy mind had trouble registering the sensory information she was being fed, it still sounded loud enough to not be too far.

...Across, even.

"Did you hear that?"

Ayu turned around. Hisakwa had asked a question. She nodded.

"Yeah."

She observed him. Eyes wide and darting, a cold sweat breaking out. Vision blurred. Rub her eyes, look again. Obviously shaking now; very panicked. Didn't keep his cool, huh? Not outside expectation, really. She looked down. Her wrist was unbound. Ayu could leave if she wanted to. The crime scene wasn't far, clearly... voices were just outside. Just outside Hisakawa's cabin. Everyone needed information, and people would be curious to see what happened. It's logical.

"...Hey. Want to investigate with me?" Ayu asked, eyes and head turning up toward him. "I think I'd feel safer with you around," she mumbled, averting them again. An awkward pause and a brief silence followed. She got up. He'd follow her, she was sure of that much.

"I'm going, then."

Ayu stepped right outside. Outside the cabin. Yep, crime wasn't far from it. Just ahead... Naomi's? Yeah, hers. Makes sense... Iclyn's partner. And, from the looks of it...

"...Ah..."

...very, very dead. That became clear as she'd come closer to the entryway. All the others got closer too, pouring in one by one. Someone had screamed before she went outside, a male, but they went ahead already, clearly. Nobody was outside. They had to be inside. Was it the gray haired one...? He cursed, right? Oh, or maybe the other one... Tsuin. Yeah, must've been Tsuin. Ayu stood just before the cabin. She turned around. Yeah, he was there.

"Hey, can you take the lead? I'm not... very good at this."
@Hammerman thanks for reminding me that I wrote 'roar' instead of 'howl' like a fucking dipshit

Decided to take you up on that offer due to a lack of other viable options.

Nico really shouldn't have been hanging around town like she was.

Her parents most likely expected her to come home straight away after school had ended, just like how she usually did, but the habit had been broken more and more often ever since she'd become a magical girl. This time was no different as Nico aimlessly wandered into town. Something was weighing on her mind, something that made her uneasy. The Hex Night had begun in earnest just the day prior, and she'd already met two of her 'competitors.' It still didn't feel right to fight each-other like that. Thoughts like those made her feel inferior and weak. It was reassuring that Nari was on her side, but... if Nico didn't get over these feelings, surely she'd be one of the first to go.

She couldn't let that happen. She wouldn't let that happen.

"Merw."

A sudden meow coming from beneath her snapped Nico out of those thoughts, having her glance down at the origin. It was her little friend again. She was showing up a lot more than Nico remembered her to. Still, she happily crouched down and picked up the cat, who didn't offer any resistance as it gleefully hung from Nico's arms.

"Little troublemaker..." she whispered to her with a giggle. She bent one of her hands back a little so her fingers could scratch behind the burmilla's ears. The cat let out another delighted meow. The two of them walked a bit further into town like this. Then, suddenly, it climbed out from between Nico's arms. She didn't get the impression it was bored of her, so she asked "Hey, what's wrong?" to the little creature. Its tail was stiff and straight as the cat paused for a moment, just long enough for Nico to be caught off-guard when it suddenly ran across the corner. She chased after it, worried about whatever happened, only to find it hissing at another girl she'd never met. The girl was only a few meters away from the cat.

"A-ah, excuse me..." Nico apologetically told the stranger, crouching down next to the cat. "It's okay... you don't have to worry," she reassured it. The cat looked back at Nico, perked up a little, and jumped right into her arms again, snuggling itself into her chest this time. Nico sighed and stood upright again, giving the stranger the least awkward smile she could muster. Looking at her better, it didn't seem like this girl was any older than Nico herself. Blonde, too... what a strange hair colour. Was it dyed?

"I'm sorry if she bothered you... I usually don't have to keep her in check like this," Nico told the girl as she looked back down at the kitty, still rubbing its head against her uniform.

The student's construct remained silent as Renzo landed in front of it. They pushed themself off the stones they had crashed into, sheathing one of their blades on the hip so they could grab onto the boy's hand. As they weren't quite used to his magic, however, the construct soon tumbled onto the floor again after the mad dash, rolling a meter or so away. They were much lighter than they appeared to be.

"O-Oi, Yakko! Quit screwing around," the construct's partner yelled in their direction. They responded by turning their head, pulling up the shoulders for a shrug and climbing to their feet. The student turned back to Renzo. "Get out of here? To where? That thing's been chasing me halfway across the complex!" he yelled.

Meanwhile, the assault on the berserk construct kicked off in spectacular fashion. Three pairs, having arrived almost at the same time, was quite the disadvantage for it. While it managed to dodge Adamas' initial tackle with a quick jump, the landing wasn't quite so simple. Fubuki's Ice Age had already taken effect as the area was starting to become a frozen wasteland, including the spot it tried to land on. The beast slid across the floor, unable to gain solid footing, which let Lun set up his little trap with ease. The construct barely had any time to react before being hurled onto its side. Adamas was already coming in for a second attack, but every hair on the berserk construct's body began to stand up. Suddenly, it let out a window-shattering howl. It was loud enough to stop the others dead in their tracks, even forcing Yakko back to its knees. The ice underneath the construct as well as Lun's hard light shattered in an instant.

It didn't take long for the beast to be back on all four of its paws. A black mist started to rise from in between its fur. The mist then sank to the floor, spreading across and corroding a part of Fubuki's frozen kingdom. Though the temperature remained just as cold, the ice was being eroded like an acid bit through it.

"W-What the hell is it doing?!" the student, who had been running from it, shouted. The beast turned toward Lun, tracing them up in the air, before leaping at them. The mist followed it, wrapping around like a pincer so the only direction Lun could dodge in without touching it being backwards- and he wasn't getting away fast enough to easily escape the beast's jaws. Additionally, some of the mist crept up towards Lun's partner as well, but Yakko dove in front of Renzo and attempted to slash at it with the one sword it still held. Surprisingly, it worked. While it didn't outright destroy the substance, the force from the swing did cause it to go in the other direction- Adamas' direction.
"Wait, for real?!"

Ren's exasperated voice could be heard all the way back into the city with how loud he yelled, which only served for his construct to grab him and use one of their ethereal hands to cover his mouth. "My apologies, he's a little... immature," they told Hugo's newly-formed team. The boy clearly had something to say as he was struggling beneath his construct's hold, with Yusuke laughing at the sight.

"Ahaha! Damn, Wraith, that's brutal." Yusuke turned to his own construct. "Well, Reave... what do you say? Favoring the odds already?" he asked them. They simply shook their head. Only a single word escaped from their mouth.

"No."

Yusuke fell over on the spot, before scrambling back onto his feet. He said "H-Hey, what the heck?! We can totally kick Chidori's-!" and was then cut-off.

"I-I'm still here, you know!" Ren shouted from where he stood, having managed to push down his construct's hand. He pointed towards the remaining crowd. "Hey, you four! Pick a side already, I want to get to the scrapping," he shouted. All of them migrated to Yusuke's side, making the boy in question burst out in laughter again. "Hey, come on! I need a team too!"

"Yeah, you need the help alright! Hey, someone else can take over this team, I'm defecting to Ren!" Yusuke said, hopping over to his side.

"How unusual..." Reave whispered as they followed suit.

"Yeah, what the hell?! Mind your own business!" Ren yelled back at the guy.

"C'mon, buddy... without me, there's no way you're gonna beat them. Just accept the help and-"

"Umm... you needed a third person?" a girl interrupted, riding on top of her spider construct. A green ichor oozed from the fangs sticking out in front of its jaw. It strut over to both Ren and Yusuke with her on top of it. She looked young enough to be a first-year. "If you'd like, I could-"

"Alright, that settles it then! We're first up," Ren immediately declared, racing over to get some distance from Hugo's team. The other three students in the area scattered, wanting to get some distance from the free-for-all that would ensue. It didn't take long for the trio of Ren, Yusuke and...

"...uh. What was your name again?"

"Hiyori."

...Hiyori to stand on the opposite end of the field. A few silent moments passed. Yusuke spoke up.

"Hey, uh, Hiyori... are you gonna... stay on top of your construct like that?" he questioned, having set himself behind Reave. The girl just gave a cheerful nod in response, which made both boys look at each-other nervously. "Well, alright then..." he mumbled, dropping the subject. Ren shook it off a bit faster and grinned.

"Ready? ...GO!"

As soon as he gave the go-ahead, Hiyori and her construct rode full-speed into the battlefield, in front of both Ren and Yusuke's constructs. The two of them panicked and ran in opposite directions, followed by their partners. Ren brought up his hand, the mark on the back of it clearly visible for anyone watching. It glowed for a bit before both him and his construct suddenly vanished in thin air.

On the other side, Yusuke's Reave was joining Hiyori in the middle of the battlefield. Her construct suddenly slid to a halt and began to spit out some of the ichor that had been dripping from its fangs. As it launched, it suddenly stopped mid-air while Hiyori's own mark, situated on the side of her neck, began to shine. Four blobs of venom hovered in the air. She concentrated on them before launching two at both Hume and Nehla each, still having some distance to cover across the plain.

"Bide your time, Reave... wait for Ren and Wraith," Yusuke muttered to his partner. Reave nodded, hovering around Hiyori's construct as if it was a fortress they needed to hold.
Y'all move faster than I anticipated. Luckily, I've got some time right now, so I'll at least start the next post. If all goes well it's up either soon after this one, or tomorrow.
I just couldn't justify them hanging around the shrine is all. ^^;

and there's why I'd rather not do it. I'll think of something; if I really can't come up with anything I could always have Nico crash Fuyko and Hikari's party as a last resort.
@Ammokkx: Hmmm... I can try and think of something at least? Though I didn't have much in mind for the shrine at the moment. ^^;

I'll find something else then.
