No worries, I'm still interested.
I know I'm not a part of the IC anymore as a matter of style, but perhaps I can continue the discussion regarding homunculi, golems and constructs in medieval high fantasy settings... not necessarily that of Kurn.

While Leonardo davinci did make machines and a literal mechanical lion for the king, Leonardo's designs were not at the level of ...your characters'. He was a genius, but he worked with what they had at the time.

But then, Leonardo didn't have access to magic (or "unobtainium" super substances) which he could have used to animate his creations, as well as conjure servitors and forces to help him fashion more precise parts. In some settings... there exists a history of wizards and spellcasters creating golems and other constructs that he could have drawn from.... including a history of demons employing the services of construct Retrievers for instance.

I just lament leaning to use the "sci-fi" moniker in this case, when only magic was used to provide the creature with its animating energy, and in the use his "mechas"... the ability to manipulate, bend and warp itself and its its own body to fit over another creature. As far as building the construct's body prior to the addition of magic goes, that's on the level of what Leonardo could have probably done... smithing, sculpting, carving, tanning, affixing, fitting adjoining parts.

Here is the Effigy template that reflects Xukhezur's main construct (just for reference)... prior to the magic used to give it my homebrewed mecha subtype, replacing its internal parts with a cavity for its would be occupant, lined with protomatter... the stuff demiplanes are made from, when spellcasters use the Genesis spell.
I'm surprised this didn't come up sooner... but oh well...

Depending on how commonplace it is for wizards, spellcasters and magical artisans to create artificial homunculi, golems and constructs... and animate them (in some cases, granting them sentience similar to how intelligent items work) to function as guardians and servitors... you could then perhaps extend this concept to fashioning these creatures into forms that can be ridden as mounts. Now, take the concept a step or two further, and imagine modifying one of these creatures, such that it could bend and warp itself to surround, and "engulf" another being, form a mind link with it, and use that link to respond to that being like an extension of its own body.

Sure, I grant you its not a good fit for many of the more classic medieval fantasy settings, such as LOTR for instance.... but D&D is a strange collaborative creation that draws from many sources of inspiration.

As far as working as an extension of the body... some of these D&D settings, you have symbiots (typically aberrations bred with purpose) that can attach themselves to their host, whilst providing them some manner of additional functions or outer protections, many of which respond to the host's will. Now sure, they are not as artificial as a construct might be, but symbiots could be considered in the realm of "sci-fi".

Then you have grafts, where tissues from other beings are grown or implanted into another... or full body parts attached to another outright, (including available parts from golems, undead, plants and even elementals.... some of which involve the risk of rejection or some other malfunction as they are used).

Then you have aberrations, far realm denizens and Lovecraft-style abominations that, in and of themselves, can look pretty alien, in an almost "sci-fi" manner.... yet these horrors still find their place in some settings considered medieval.

Then you have settings that involve things like spelljamming, which involves taking open deck vessels (and sometimes whole cities) into space. In these cases, as I understand it right now... when the ships/cities part with a given planet's atmosphere, they draw off and take with them a bubble of that planet's atmosphere, kind of like blowing bubbles that pinch themselves free from a film of soapy water. And as far as space travel itself goes, one prominent example of it existing in "medieval" fantasy... Warcraft's Draenei.... who would probably be spelljammers if they were adapted for use in D&D.

However, I have to admit, that games with many developers, like Warcraft and D&D, diverge heavily from single author sources of classic fantasy literature. So, if having any of the aspects discussed above, sours the purity of that RP experience that you are looking for, then by all means, let it be known and perhaps I can find a way to bow out.
GM Shortcut Post: The caravan arrived in Cloak Wood at midday. The wagons were taken to the warehouses and docks so they could be offloaded. The horses were taken to the stables to be tended, and the riding dogs were taken into kennels, or lashed to their exteriors. Most of the halflings disseminated into various groups to laze and have lunch and go fishing, which would probably take a hour or two. The humans took their leave to head home to their dwellings in and around town itself, while the dwarves stayed with their carefully concealed cargo, which they planned on shipping across the inner sea of the Hadeshorn to the various kingdoms beyond. Such as it was, our trio of heroes were given leave and liberty by the locals, to explore the town itself for the afternoon.
Well, that's alright guys.

As far as my links go, I figured that even if you didn't understand the numbers and terms... you could skip over them and still get ideas from the portions of the text that were written out.
Xukhezur alighted his craft upon the ground near where Lu'Vayla now stood in the wake of the illusion's disappearance, as he telepathically bade his optic orbs by means of his mind link with them, to resume their normal mapping patterns of the city and surrounding lands. He then looked around at the apprehensive glances cast his way, and released himself from fearsome looking effigy mecha, stepping free from within the construct to then have it meekly follow about behind him like a lost puppy. "Well, I'm alright if you are, Captain," he said quietly to Lu'Vayla. "We should seek a money changer, so we can at least buy ourselves some of that waybread before these elves think of an excuse to withdraw their hospitality."

He had a few pearls and a couple tiny gems in a small pouch in his belt pocket, and knew that exchanging one of them should give them enough of the elven currency for their stay. As he walked up to the bakery vendor, he quietly him that he wished to buy some waybread, but lacked the currency required. He then discreetly asked him if there was a money changer nearby, that he could visit. Meanwhile, a messenger approached Lu'Vayla on the edge of the carefully tended street, and informed her that the Queen wished to bring her and her companion in for an audience. Before Xukhezur could get an answer to his question, he followed the bakery vendor's eyes to the effigy that stood perhaps two yards behind him, and beyond that, to where Lu'Vayla was speaking with the messenger. "Excuse me," Xukhezur apologized, and walked back in time to hear what else the messenger had to say....
Once the interaction between different player's characters starts, I'm sure the posts will draw down a bit.
Coolness. This crossover stuff will make things interesting.

I have also homebrewed D&D 3.5 versions of Moogles and Pandaren if you want to include them as well. Heh.
As this RP picks up... might I suggest the players link the names of their characters as they appear in IC posts, to their OOC descriptions on this website (using the "permalink") or any other website they might have.

I know it would make it easier for me to keep track of characters as they die and get replaced... or as new characters are added throughout the story.... especially if people start running multiple characters or make themselves a part of other RPs on this site.
If you guys could do me a favor... and periodically place reference links about your character's names in your IC posts... using the "permalink" to the OOC post that describes them, so I can better add them to my thoughts while reading and considering my own posts.

I can make due if you don't want to, just offering it as a suggestion.

I know it would help me keep track of characters... especially when I'm a part of multiple RP threads
