With refined cheekbones, that appear prominently when her small, elegant smile widens her face and her perfectly white, straight teeth that stand starkly against her soft, pink lips. Her brown eyes have a droop to them, but glitter in the sun and shine with her emotions. Her chin is wide and has a small dip in the middle, though it isn’t severe. Lucy’s long, silken tresses are a chocolate brown with a slight red tint to them – there are speculations amongst friends that the red is dye, but she has yet to comment on it – and has a natural fullness to it. Milky skin feels soft to the touch, though her fingers are calloused as well as her feet. Lucy is of average height, which is surprising to the typical stereotypers, and stands at 5’6”. Lucy prefers to wear jeans, button-ups, or sweaters – cardigans or otherwise – paired with her favorite beat-up cat-decorated vans. She doesn’t typically fuss over her appearance, except with a slight amount of lip palm and the occasional mascara. Her hair is her pride and joy when it comes to her body and she is careful to keep it healthy and luscious.Lucy only has her ears pierced, but she surprisingly has a wish for a small tattoo on her arm when she turns eighteen. Lucy does have a scar on her knee from a vacuum cleaner incident (she doesn't want to talk about it).

The overachieving Asian – an annoying stereotype that was pushed immediately upon Lucy when she arrived to America. Several times she has been accused of having overbearing parents and stress-related problems. It has never occurred to people, however, that Lucy studies and works hard of her own accord. Ever since she was little, Lucy had been ambitious – she strived for perfection and would only accept the best. Upon the ripe age of twelve, Lucy began to work in her grandmother’s restaurant in order to make money to pay for books. When she wasn’t working, she was studying hard. Lucy had dreams of going places – she didn’t want to live her life stuck behind a desk, making minimum – or even medium – wage. No, Lucy wanted to build an empire; she wanted to leave a mark on the world. While some may see her ambition as admirable, Lucy was the type that would never let anything get in the way of her dream and would go to extremes if she had to in order to stop it.
Working as hard as she does, it is no surprise that Lucy is smart – genius, almost. Lucy has never received anything lower than an A in her life – though she almost came close to a B. Her mind tends to work a mile a minute, so it’s never really surprising when she becomes scatter-brained or forgets something or another because she’s too busy thinking of homework and her studies. Because of her love for intellect, Lucy prefers sardonic, cynical humor and sarcasm and enjoys satirical movies and TV shows (and the rare straight-up parody). Downside to her intelligence: Lucy can be manipulative when she wants to be. She never typically finds a reason to be, but she will do what she has to sometimes. Lucy is sly and sneaky when she wants to be and isn’t particularly honest all the time – though she prefers telling half-truths rather than fullblown lies.
However, Lucy is not as rigid as many would like to think of her. In reality, Lucy is rather idiosyncratic in her passionate personality and opinionated behavior. It is not rare to see Lucy yelling to herself in public, or for her to be grumbling something under her breath. She gets really passionate about things that she cares about and her friends typically like to provoke her ire just to see her yell facts off the top of her lungs. Above all, Lucy hates being wrong and will argue till she’s dead that she’s right – even if she knows she isn’t just because she doesn’t like feeling stupid compared to others.
Though when with her friends, Lucy tends to be rather open and loud, she’s quite shy around strangers and prefers to keep quiet rather than participate. She usually keeps a cold composure when shy, though she might hide behind her hair every now and then, and speaks formally and politely. This coldness tends to turn other people off and create preconceived notions about her such as her being a “frigid bitch” though Lucy doesn’t take it to heart often.

Lucy never really knew her father – he supposedly died before she was born, her mom says a bungee jumping incident but her grandmother maintains that it was a robbery. Neither can really be trusted. Either way, it was sad and all, but her mother and grandma moved on eventually and now only remember fond memories. Of course, there are a couple of times growing up that Lucy walked in on Grandma crying, but those were usually when she was drunk.
Lucy was born in Busan, South Korea a minute after her brother, Levi. There’s not much to say about her early childhood, Lucy spent it studying and reading. Though around the age of seven, Lucy gained a fascination for watching Grandma cook dinner and took it upon herself to start studying cook books (she still almost burned down the kitchen, but there was progress). When she was ten, the family relocated to Seoul, South Korea so Grandma could open a restaurant. Lucy didn’t particularly like it in Seoul – because she had a thick Satoori accent, she was often the butt of the joke of the children and so she worked really hard on adopting a Seoul accent. Lucy didn’t make many friends, except for three, because she spent most of her time alone. At the age of twelve, Lucy convinced Grandma to let her work at the restaurant and worked there most days and nights.
During her childhood, Lucy was very insecure about herself in Seoul and felt like she didn’t belong. However, whenever she became a teenager, she grew into herself and became a lot more confident in herself. Perhaps it was her newfound confidence, or maybe her newfound boobs, but Lucy was often bothered by a boy, named Duri, in her class who had a crush on her. She didn’t particularly like him like that and often was rather annoyed with him. Then, one day, she was trying to study in the park when he brought her milk and Lucy got annoyed at the distraction so she decked him in the face. They’ve been best friends ever since – and his crush on her eventually faded. Afterwards, if any other boys bothered her, Duri beat them up for her.
A little bit after Lucy’s thirteenth birthday, her brother (then identifying as her sister) spontaneously cut off all his hair during the night and told their mother that he no longer wanted to be known as Sang-sook. Their mother reacted badly at first, grounding Levi and not letting him leave the house except for school. Lucy didn’t really understand Levi’s new transgendered identity, but accepted it either way, and it was only with her help that their mother finally allowed Levi to dress as a boy (though she still holds that it’s only a phase). Shortly afterwards, their mother met a tourist named Richard while getting drunk off of wine at a hotel. After a week of knowing each other, they legally got married.
The Kim family didn’t leave Korea right away. They waited until August before they moved to America to live with Richard. Lucy and Levi at first did not like Richard, but they have since learned to reluctantly accept him – Lucy gets along with him better than Levi does.
| F A M I L Y |The Kim family moved to Red Lake a year ago following Lucy and Levi's mother's marriage to a tourist. The family is rather private and so not much is known about them. However, their new step-father is known throughout the town as a lawyer and a native as his family has lived there forever. They live in a relatively nice suburban house with plenty of room for them.
Jeong-ja Kim - The previously single mother of Lucy and Levi. Jeong-ja loves red wine and wearing faux fur; she can come off as materialistic and naive. She doesn't particularly care about grades, but prefers to bond with her daughter and son over appearances. Though Jeong-ja seems supportive of Levi's transgendered identity, she is convinced that it is just a phase that will go over soon.
Richard "Dick" Lewinsky - A douchebag lawyer who married Jeong-ja after meeting her in Korea while sight-seeing. Though he is, in fact, a total dickbag that never grew out of his high school varsity football personality, he can be caring when he wants to be and genuinely cares bout the Kim Family. He plans to take their last name because he doesn't want it to be hard on the children. He is also very accepting of Levi's gender identity, though he sometimes makes jokes which Levi has a hard time dealing with.
Byung-Woo "Levi" Kim - Lucy's twin brother. Levi was born female, but identifies as a boy. Levi will sometimes dress girly in order to appease his mother, but it is very distressing to him. He has only recently come out as transgendered. Lucy and Levi are very, very close at home, but appear very distant at school.
Chun-ja "Grandma" Kim - Lucy and Levi's grandmother who is currently living with them. Chun-ja prefers for everyone to call her "Grandma," finding the American term endearing and often encourages amongst Lucy and Levi's friends. Grandma is obsessed with the American dream and often creates get rich quick schemes that she often pulls a reluctant Lucy into. Grandma often will admonish and lecture people in public and cannot speak English, much to the Red Lake population's ire.
A-ya - The Kim family's cat that seems to have it out for them. She often sneaks around the house and lurks behind them and is prone to scaring the shit out of Levi (he's convinced she does it on purpose). At night, A-ya tends to pull the blankets off of people's feet and scratch the crap out of them - as a preventative, the Kim family now wears fuzzy socks (but A-ya has been practicing on taking them off). She was originally named Bora, but now only responds to A-ya because whenever she was around, the family would shout "A-ya!" (onomatopoeia word for ouch). Despite being evil, she is really good at learning tricks (from a distance) and will be nice if you have food.
