Just going across should take around 15 years assuming you never stop on a trip to the other side of the quadrant.

@ArawakThe mats are all independent conciousnesses, however the critters are inextricably linked to their host mat. Each critter has an independent personality, however this personality is constantly being influenced by the goals and desires of the mat they consume. So the mat is both a single will and a president, but generally all critters will share it's personality to some extent.

@Haeloh the military size thing you brought up earlier, what about nations that don't have a 'military' in the conventional sense?

Each mat controls a fourth of its planet (as a result of the Unifying Pact that forms the basis of my law) and each mat inevitably possess it's own personal defensive forces amoung the critters.

So as a result I have hundreds of independent militaries, each with a population of... One?

Depends on if the mats contain multiple personalities or not. How interconnected are these mat minds? Do multiple minds share the same mat as separate 'individuals' or are they more psychogeographically (Psychogeography! That is a field of science for dealing with really huge brains/hivemind species/collectives and how their thoughtflow is affected by regional geography) homogenous than that?

Kazzlehorf will have a psychogeography too though Kazzlehorf will never admit to it. Ever.
