Arriving at the Forest

"Here we are. I don't know what you're looking for out in the forest, but here's the furthest I am willing to go. Good luck out there in the woods!" came the rough voice of the taxi driver as he not-so-gently applied the break.

The taxi pulled to an abrupt halt in the middle of an empty road. One quick glance around the surroundings would reveal how empty and desolate the road was. There was not even a single vehicle in sight. This was the only road that led into the stretch of forest. Nothing could be heard other than the ever-incessant whir of the engines and the puffs of smoke chugging out of the exhaust pipes.

Morgan reached into his pocket, fished his wallet out, and opened it. Slotted within his wallet was the prepaid card that came with the mysterious postcard that Morgan had received just two weeks ago. A week or so ago, Morgan might have hesitated with the use of the card. After all, who would air drop a card with an unspecified monetary value so easily to someone else. With how the postcard and package had just lightly flitted into his room, it was definitely much more likely for the entire package to have just been a prank, or that the card had been empty.

However, Morgan was desperate. Desperate enough to grasp at any straws that offered even a faint slim chance of survival. There was no way Morgan could bear any more of the pain, suffering and wounds of society. Humans and humanity hurt themselves way too much and easily. Just a simple walk to the supermarket and back and Morgan could experience at least two to three people hurting themselves by accident or otherwise. Morgan would always end up with cuts and bruises each time he deigned to leave the house.

Morgan quickly paid the taxi fare with the card he was holding. Without a moment's hesitation, he got out of the taxi, retrieved his bag pack and headed off along the road leading into the forest. He had no idea what to expect when he arrived at his destination, but Morgan was willing to bet everything he had on this last chance.

Journey to the Cabin

As Morgan took one step after another, the serenity of the forest became more and more oppressive. The forest was silent and quiet. The pause button seemed to be on. Even the rustle of the leaves as the wind blew past the nearby trees seemed muted. Morgan took another glance at the map application on his phone to ascertain that he was heading in the right direction and continued walking.

There was definitely something good about all the silence and inactivity around Morgan. At the very least, if there was nobody around, there would not be anyone getting hurt, and Morgan's weird... magic would not activate and cause him even more pain.

As Morgan trudged onwards, he began to wonder what he would discover when he eventually reached his destination. Throughout his whole journey, his mind had been preoccupied with where else he needed to go and what mode of transportation he needed to take. He had taken a domestic flight, took a train, and then at the train station, hopped onto the taxi that had dropped him off in front of the forest for the final lap of his journey.

It was only now when Morgan was so close to where the postcard had asked him to go that he finally had the chance to think about what he was supposed to expect. The postcard had mentioned a tutor. Could the final destination be a school for what the postcard termed "warlocks and witches"? Yet, the postcard mentioned that magic had not been seen for thousands of years, so it seemed less plausible that the location mentioned on the postcard was an academy. Maybe Morgan would meet a wise sage with knowledge beyond his or her years.

Or, was it possible that these "warlocks and witches" were evil and did the bidding of the devils and demons of old. Morgan did not fail to notice how the address contained "666", the so-called "Number of the Beast". Was it possible that he was being invited to a cult? Would he end up being forced into eternal servitude under the devil? Morgan's footsteps faltered at this point. However, he had already come so far, that there was no turning back. The only thing he could do now was to continue on to see for himself what the invitation was about.

There was one point of worry though: The "creatures that the mages of old banished" and the hunters mentioned on the postcard. Were they likely to be watching Morgan now? Morgan felt a shiver run down his spine at the thought of being caught unawares and attacked before he reached what he deemed as a momentary safe haven. He quickened his footsteps and willed himself to walk faster.

The Cabin

Morgan took a look at the map on his phone. The map indicated that his desired location was just a turn ahead. Morgan slid his phone into his pocket - he did not need to use the map application any more. Morgan continued walking and as he rounded the bend in the road, the sight of a desolate, lonely building standing there amidst a clearing in the forest. A dead tree stood right beside the house, bringing with it an ominous feeling.

The roof of the building seemed to be in disrepair and it was unlikely that there was anyone living in the building. Morgan took out his phone and the postcard again - perhaps he had made a mistake and this was not the right destination? Thoughts that he would be forced into a cultist group surfaced in his mind yet again. Morgan wondered if it was not too late to turn around. He could not imagine having to spend a night in a building that was as exposed to the weather as the building in front was.

As Morgan was trying to decide what he could do, he heard a small commotion just to the side of the house. He saw a dark circular space expand in the middle of a group of four people - three women and one man. "Dark circular space" may not be an apt description of what Morgan witnessed. It seemed more like light was just non-existent within that space. Morgan did not have much time to ponder on what he had just seen before a woman stepped out of the circular space, lit up what seemed to be a cigarette and seemed to be speaking to the rest of the people around her. Morgan could not hear what she was saying, but he was drawn to find out more about each of those people and their supposed "magic".

Morgan slid his phone into his pocket yet again and after taking a deep breath, as if to encourage himself, started silently and slowly walking towards the group of people gathered near the house.

Probably either Casual or maybe even Advanced. I'd say more so the former as Casual has become the "hangout" for the guild, as in that is where nearly everyone RPs these days. More people, more roleplays, more interest, more posts, etc.

As for the other question, it depends on the person. I used to be in 15+ RPs at once. Now I usually keep to maybe 2-3 at most. Not really a question you could narrow down, I feel.

Ahhhhh I see!

Wow 15 RPs sounds like it is going to be really chaotic!

I might just try with one first and then participate in more as and when I feel like I can handle another.

Yeah I remember when I was younger and could balance that many rp's. Ah those were the days.

Are we not forever young? 😅😅
I've only ever played Secret of Mana.

If you have the chance to, I would really recommend you try Sword of Mana, although it is really old school and retro now compared to the reworked Secret of Mana and Trial of Mana.

It's a good place to be for fantasy group RPs.

There's almost always an Elder Scrolls RP going and at least one or two generic fantasy RPs too.

Occasionally a Warhammer Fantasy RP or Dragon Age RP.

Usually a Pen and Paper campaign or two in the Tabletop section as well.

I only have one question for you.

What is your stance on Halflings?

Oooooh! I shall have to explore the site for those roleplays. Where do they usually appear under?

Warhammer Fantasy reminds me about the Warhammer 40K games I used to play in the past (although that is a completely different setting)! I guess I need to check out the Tabletop section some day!

I don't particularly like or disdain halflings.

How many roleplays do people usually participate in at any one time?

"Just... keep... quiet... and let me think..."

Gender:

Male

Age:

23

Appearance:

Height: 5'6"
Weight: 110 lbs

Hair Colour: Black
Eye Colour: Black
Skin Tone: Pale

Build: Skinny
Notable Features: Morgan has a very androgynous appearance.

A quiet anti-social girl - that is everyone's first impression of Morgan, which is not far from the truth. The only problem is that Morgan is not a female, but a male.

On a second look, one would see that Morgan looks very skinny, much more so than an average person. Morgan tends to walk with a very uncertain and irregular rhythm, giving off a very nervous and anxious energy.

Personality:

Contemplative | Nervous | Quiet

Morgan's mind is a constantly ticking clock - always thinking, always wondering, always working. Morgan is always focused on one thought or another. When faced with a problem, Morgan's reaction is always to wrack his brain in order to find a solution to the problem, which he usually does... eventually.

However, Morgan's one strength is also a weakness of his: Morgan does not like taking action unless he has a well-thought-out plan or solution. This usually leads to delayed action. Morgan also has a compulsive need to constantly think of contingency plans for any possible situation or scenario that might occur.

Morgan's greatest bane is frivolous chattering and excessive displays of energy. When faced with someone yammering away with high enthusiasm, Morgan's quiet contemplativeness goes on overdrive, anxiously trying to figure out the best response to deal with the situation. This usually leads to awkward social situations which causes Morgan to consciously avoid such social situations.

History:

Morgan grew up in the city, surrounded by all of the hustle and bustle of everyone's busy lives. However, because of his quiet and contemplative nature, the high energy of the city unnerves Morgan, and he spent his childhood and adolescence (self-)isolated from the community around him. Despite his parents' best efforts to acquaint him with some friends, Morgan did not have any close friends.

Morgan's powers manifested itself about three months ago. Morgan was eating when his mother accidentally cut herself while preparing a plate of fruits. Somehow, Morgan's mother was not hurt in any way. In fact, she did not even realise that she had cut herself with the knife at all. However, Morgan, who was sitting at the dining table suddenly felt a sharp pain on his hand. Morgan looked down, only to see a painful red gash on his left hand.

Since then, incidents like this have only repeated themselves. Whenever someone within his sight hurts themselves, any wounds that they might have gotten would appear on Morgan's body instead. These wounds would vary in severity and pain. Throughout those three months, Morgan would always have cuts and scrapes present on his body.

Morgan himself was frightened by what was happening around him. The pain that he constantly felt from all of the wounds on his body threatened caused his mood to turn for the worst. A close brush with death when a particularly deep cut on his wrist almost caused him to die before he could reach the hospital for medical aid worsened the fear that he felt, and added on a much more irrational fear of dying. Morgan desperately tried to isolate himself from the world, taking weeks of leave from work just to hide in his room.

Just two weeks ago, a mysterious postcard fluttered into Morgan's bedroom. A quick read of the postcard revealed a mention of magic and an invitation to a particular location that promised help and an explanation of the weird phenomena that has been happening to Morgan for the past few months. After a few days of thought, Morgan chose to accept the invitation. He resigned from a job he was close to being fired from, lied to his parents that he had found a job in another state, and left for the address.

Equipment:

MacBook
iPhone
Wireless earphones
Chargers and cables
Portable charger
Umbrella
Clothing

Magic:

Morgan's magic is to heal. However, Morgan's healing is done through taking on the wounds that someone has suffered onto himself. When the healing magic is over, a wound would appear on Morgan's body, at the same location, and with the same severity.

Morgan's body recovers and heals from wounds faster than normal. Small wounds not more than 1mm in depth take an hour or two to recover. Deep wounds around 3cm to 5cm in depth take about two to three days to recover. Broken or fractured bones take about a week to recover. This improved recovery only happens when Morgan is alive - a fatal wound would kill Morgan before his magic can heal up his own body. While Morgan is recovering, he will also feel the full amount of pain that any wound would inflict.

Magic Progression:

Morgan starts off (as of the start of the roleplay) being unable to control his power at will - his power just randomly activates whenever someone around Morgan gets hurt. As Morgan grows, his control over his power will improve, and this will allow him to better control when his power activates. As he grows even stronger, he will be able to activate his power at longer and longer ranges.

As his power develops, Morgan's body will also heal itself and recover faster and faster. The same limitation of being unable to heal and recover from fatal wounds still applies unless there is a way to prevent Morgan from dying as his body heals.
Welcome to the forum!

Oh hell yes! let's see some awesome food photos if you're willing to share ???

Thank you! Sure thing! You can take a look at some of the photos on my Instagram account actually (I just realised that I can't just drop images here without uploading them somewhere)!

@Ashley Levierre Any specific JRPG you enjoy? My personal favorite is the more westernized Chrono Trigger, very fond memories of that game due to story and the phenomenal musical scores

Oooooh! Chrono Trigger was a pretty fun game! Some of my favourite games are the Golden Sun series, Riviera: The Promised Land and Sword of Mana (over the other Mana titles).

I also play and like titles like Advance Wars, Fire Emblem, Summon Night: Swordcraft Story!

Here it is! I added on a new category for me to pen my thoughts about how Morgan's ability could develop in the future, although that is still ultimately up for grabs depending on how the story and plot develops!

Just joined it! Thank you!

I will craft out my character in a while, after I am done with work and supper (I'm doing an evening shift for work today)!
I am interested in this roleplay! Hope to be able to get a slot in this while I take a while to think about a background and character!
Hello everyone!

Really glad to join you as a member of Roleplayer Guild. I am generally really bad at introductions, so I'll put in a short disclaimer that my introduction post actually follows the guidelines from the pinned message! 😅😅

I have very little roleplaying experience prior to creating an account on this website. I roleplayed on a few sites here and there, but the interest for those roleplays die really quickly before we get deep into the plot of the roleplay. I did some searching around before finding out that there is this dedicated roleplaying website (yes, I am really late to the journey...)!

In terms of roleplaying, I prefer Fantasy-based roleplay scenarios, and really like group roleplay - especially for all of the unique interactions that can be possible when multiple characters are roleplaying with each other! I am okay and fine with modern-day roleplay scenarios too, and because I am currently reading cultivation novels, I actually would not mind venturing into such roleplay scenarios if there is anyone into that!

My hobbies right now are just reading novels (fan translations of them), playing games (small repertoire of retro and old JRPGs that I replay every now and then), exploring cafes and restaurants for good food (if you're into this, I could share my food photos and escapades with you), and drinking and mixing alcoholic drinks!

Let me know if there is anything more that you want to find out from me!
