Welcome to http://Reality! I've put quite a bit of effort into making this roleplay, so I'm really hoping it gets off the ground. Some themes you guys should know about to get a quick gauge of what this roleplay will be about: sci-fi, video game world, artificial intelligence, AI ethics, networking, virtual/augmented reality. This will be a mission-based roleplay, and will to a degree hoist itself atop combat-based roleplaying, but by no means does this mean that you will only be fighting. Despite the entities you will play as, violence isn't the only way to form a narrative here, and I highly encourage players to interact in as many ways as possible.

If you wish to express interest, I ask of you to look internally and consider a single question: "Do I plan to stick with this roleplay?" In no way am I forcing you to stay here, but I do dearly hope that most players who join intend and will stay with it. If you give me dedication, I will return it in kind, fervently might I add. I can only do things for you if you engage and keep active. As a GM, I tend to keep plotlines malleable; that is, able to be shifted according to what the players do. I highly dislike creating a set plot that I will lead players along adamantly. That being said, please consider joining! I'm currently looking for interest before putting this in the OOC (I also have a few things coming my way to further spruce up the OP). Enjoy and thank you!

The world as you know it is limited singularly to the city of Tokyo, Japan in the year 2067, no longer "considered" a hub of technological progress, but the definitive king of gizmo and gadget research and production. Within Tokyo exists a network of cameras and hologram projectors so perfectly integrated into the framework of the city and architecture, that it is a virtually omniscient and omnipresent force.

It is the avatar of the well-known AUG-WORLD. Today, augmented-reality systems allow for very little interaction between the real world and the worldwide web. In 2067, this has changed, and the cost of augmented-reality technology for the common consumer is such that an infant could possess their own unit. Everywhere one walks, they can see the internet projected upon the world as countless holograms. Menus pop up in front of your eyes when you gaze through a window into a nearby restaurant, sample music plays when you pick up a CD case, your friend appears as a full-sized hologram in your very room when you call them over the phone. All of this technology fits in the palm of your hand, and nearly everyone possess one.

With the technology came video games, of course, as entertainment companies jumped to provide consumers with fun games that utilize the augmented reality systems already coursing through every aspect of life. One such game centralized in Tokyo has gained popularity that attracts individuals from across the world, and garners more cash than American football:

AGAR MYTHOS

While not like other traditional games that have a real-world players actively controlling in-game avatars, it is considered a sort of sport given how so many of its unique entities are regarded as famous and admired "athletes" of sorts. Agar Mythos is a free-to-play game that requires a small download, a small fee to create an account, and offers users countless hours of action-entertainment just as soccer, football, or baseball does for others. Users desire to see champions compete with one another, against NPC creatures, and to interact with. With the power of augmented reality in Tokyo, these champions can be seen in the real world as holograms; the world of Agar Mythos is a mirror of Tokyo itself, albeit with many fantastical elements introduced. When two champions battle, any common citizen in the same area can see their battle in real-time if they possess a copy of Agar Mythos and have its viewing effects enabled.

Champions are designed by private programmers with enough skill, or are funded and advertised by corporations. Whenever a champion completes a mission or defeats a champion on the "Hit-Board", the creator of the champion is given real-world money. As AI, champions possess their own free will, able to do as they please within the virtual-reality world of Agar Mythos (to a degree), and can undertake "Free Board" missions as often as they like. Real-world users can pay a sum of money to employ a specific champion to complete "Special Missions" and if the Champion succeeds, the player is given small sums of money (a greater amount than they paid) as well as "Boost Credits" that they can use during the end-season Champion Royale.

At the end of each year (during the month of December), all missions are prohibited and instead Champions participate in a large tournament. Boost Credits may be spent upon any number of Champions by users which increases their abilities. If the Champion wins the tournament (or a branch of it), the user once more wins cash depending on the amount of Boost Points they used on the Champion. Gambling, essentially.

You, as the Roleplayer Guild player, will not be a human... you will not be a user. There will be no "players stuck in a video game" setting here. You will play as the Champions -the AI. Born in the world of Agar Mythos, and forever chained to it. With all your so-called free will, as Champions of the game you must adhere to the rules regardless of your desires for freedom or otherwise. How will you take it?

[Champion Archive]

Champions are the virtual-reality avatars of artificial intelligences created by any number of people, private or corporate. Your cores can be in anything from a pedestrian's mobile phone to a series of computers locked away in a secret corporate safe. Regardless of your origin, you are bound to the programming your creators set you with. As AI you possess the ability to be self-aware, display emotions, and to make decisions. There are a few things that every AI is required to do:

-All AI will always execute a Special Mission proscribed to them that has been paid for. They must be purposefully executed.
-All AI will follow the commands of their creators or controllers.
-All AI will participate in the End Season Royale. Matches will be purposefully executed.

Champions can be virtually anything the creator can come up with; a mage, a giant robot, a pigeon with a rocket launcher. No matter what they are, the Agar Mythos directive automatically balances powers and abilities such that a Champion just created will have the same combat skill as another recently-created Champion. Lifespan and missions completed boost the strength of Champions passively.

Here is the sheet for Champion creation:

[Appearance at top of sheet]
Name:
Title:
Age:
Personality:
Origin Myth:
Powers/Skills/Abilities
Equipment
Theme Song

Notes:
  • I prefer you use images for appearance, rather than a description only. Feel free to add a description to an image if you desire.

  • A Title should reflect the motif of your character and be something short, generally two to four words. Something along the lines of, "John Doe, Representative of the Anonymous."

  • Age reflects the length of time the AI has been "alive", not its "biological age".

  • Origin Myth is just that; a mythological account of your champion's history. It never happened, per-se, but reflects the motif of your character. Where they came from, what they had done to gain great power... etc.

  • Equipment is naturally more powerful (albeit very slightly) than inherent skills/powers/abilities/etc but is capable of being stolen by other Champions.

  • While Agar Mythos automatically balances powers and the like, it still doesn't preclude you from making a fair Champion.

    ========================

    Type: Protect
Mission Statement: The secluded city of Helsann has been continually assailed by gruesome abominations every night for the past month. Rumor leads us to believe that a certain necromantic scientist who goes by the name "Stitchenstein" has been raising these creatures in a hidden residence outside the city gates. For now, the mission requires its participants simply to guard the town from further incursion. Any further information on their origin or Stitchenstein's whereabouts come with greater reward. Participants are to arrive in Helsann and speak with mayor Brunel for specifics.
Players: Ekho, Gaul, Theow, Sariel, Gemini

    Type: Wanted Dead or Alive
Mission Statement: Three individual corporations have -on separate occasions- requested well-known champions to aid them in their search for so-called rogue AI, "Sprite". All three Special Missions failed. The corporations have collaborated and resolved to place this thrice-failed mission in the apprehension of Sprite as a Free Board mission for any champion to undertake. Participants who have accepted the mission will be contacted remotely by a representative of the conglomerate with further information.
    Players: Marian, Ki, Mai, Kid

    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

    Type: Research
Mission Statement: Real-world scientists have developed a program that is nigh-universal in its effects upon common world and universe-simulations. Details on its behavior and capabilities are unknown as of now, but a mission has been issued to monitor and record the program during its stay in Agar Mythos.
Hidden Note - There seems to be a locked and hidden message within the mission statement data. To anyone without the ability to decipher protected data, it is impossible to understand.

  • Submit to the lord.

  • Failure to comply by posting time regulations (which will be lose and in accordance with necessity) will result in termination... Possibly.

  • By joining you agree to allow your character to lose in many ways.

  • All of your decisions will have appropriate consequences. Roleplay you character as they would act, but be smart, ultimately.

  • If you're going to be gone for any significant length of time, please notify me. There's no shame in needing to attend to real-life stuff... you fucking loser.

  • Place your CS's in the OOC first and await approval. Once it has been approved, place it in the Champion Archive.

  • Rules subject to SWIFT AND UNEXPECTED CHANGES.

There definitely is still room for more people right? Because I demand you let me join this amazing idea or I will torch each of your houses..I have to admit this is probably one of the most creative ideas I've seen, flippin' amazing my friend.

It's still open. Hop right in.

Today is one of my more busier days, so it's actually unlikely the OOC will be up. Most certainly tomorrow however.

Pfft, I didn't even want that one! My character shall have the most masculine name ever!

Wonderful. Expect to see the OOC up soon.
Mercedes arched her back and took in a deep breath, visibly straining to inhale as much oxygen as she possibly could. Low to the Earth as she and Father seemed to be, the air was as thin as upon a great mountain. Fortunately, through both the training she had received under the guide of the Order and the holy charm placed upon her by Father himself, she was spared from suffocating in all its emptiness. Lifting her shades over her head, brushing back waves of hair, she glanced down at the tracks and swept a gaze down the hill road and into town. It was a short distance, and though wary of trekking it alone (the place was more unfamiliar than anything else it seemed, given how it was by way of arcane portal), she resolved her heart and went forth.

"I will whistle if the town is safe," she notified Alder, breaking into a slight jog down the hill, her boots kicking up ashen mud and dirt. Keeping her hand trained on the rapier jingling on her hip, she darted her eyes through the decrepit and dying trees, hostile to most any form of movement she could detect. A few shuffling figures deep in its depths concerned her, but for the moment they seemed to fear her more than she them. They kept their distance, and she did not care to take pursuit; they were not vampires, that was for certain, and as such were not her targets. Mercedes did not consider even for a moment that upon entering town and finding it safe that whistling to Alder would be dangerous. If she could make her way down the hill safely, she had no doubt in her mind Father could do it all the same.

Careful not to burst straight into the heart of civilization immediately, Mercedes took to the dark rear ends of houses and shops in the peculiar village, darting from shadow to shadow in avoidance of the gaze of its inhabitants. Eventually she found her way to the roof of a short wooden house, skillfully quiet upon its surface despite the numerous objects and weight she carried. Crawling to its edge to overlook the town center, she found herself watching a strange scene unfold, and one altogether surprising. No vampires were in sight, but she supposed even they were wary of revealing themselves so easily. No, she saw only -what looked like- common townsfolk... and a large golemn of some sort.

Unsure of how to proceed, she moved back into the dark and let out a long and loud whistle mimicking that of a bird, easily able to convey to Father Alder that he was safe to enter town as well.
It's like a fantastical background/biography, yes. It never actually "happened" but reflects the motif of the champion.
Sure. If you want to be that AI everyone thinks is a dick, though. :3

Don't trust Sky, Asuras. He's a terrible person who makes up excuses not to post, unless you go total rage-of-the-GM mode on him.And I might be joining. Depends on how fast people post in other RPs.

Yo I have been catering to your impatient posting etiquette like Kanzaki caters to Tsuchimikado's whimsy.
Carnival of Chaos - Aneura Shivan

"Pendulums," Aneura whispered to herself, keeping her shield held close to her shoulder side, "Moreso, guillotines I should say." Aneura narrowed her eyes and looked forward into the gauntlet's pathway, trying to make out as much as she could from within the darkness. Taking it slowly, she moved her towards her front, readying it to be moved into either direction -left or right- if she saw one of the pendulums approaching her from the darkness. They seemed large enough that her shield may do very little, but at the very least it was better than taking the force of it all with her body alone.

Time was of the essence, and she kept track, but there was no wisdom in rushing this mission. She could only hope the others weren't experiencing as dangerous a task. Slowly but surely, Aneura took careful steps forward, making sure that she wasn't walking straight into the path of a pendulum. With each glint of steel she saw, Aneura marked the time, and counted how long it took for each one she saw to make its back across her path. If she timed it right, she could simply walk past each, knowing well where they were and when they would come. Nevertheless, she still took her time, step-by-step, making her way to the end of the pavilion.

The image of noose-hung children managed to keep her nerves calmed even in the midst of innumerable guillotines swinging about; only rescue and success was on her mind. Deeper into the darkness she went, hoping continually that the vile illusionist wouldn't dare throw a wild card her way and manifest a pendulum she hadn't accounted for or seen prior to approaching.
If this is going to work, I'm going to need a bit more players. Nevertheless, glad to have some. :L
