@Hexaflexagon Added some more substance to the background, good now?
Sergei Vladikovich
"What use is faith? It didn't help the gods any. "
NICKNAME
Big Bloody Northman, Cold Bastard, Serge', The Bear.
AGE
35
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE
Sergei is a big man. Tall and broad, with thick muscles, he is truly deserving of the title 'The Bear'. His long, strawberry blonde hair falls about his shoulders, and his beard grows thick, giving him the appearance of a wild animal. He is almost always found frowning, his large eyebrows and piercing blue eyes seeming to look through you, at something on the horizon. He is every bit the wild warrior he appears to be.
Sergei is a man who has lost everything. His family, his home, everything was taken from him. However, just because he has lost any reason for fighting, it does not mean he'll stop anytime soon. He has an austere exterior, handling most interactions in a taciturn manner. Although he seems cold, he is always looking for someone to protect, so he can rationalize all of the violence, even though he knows it is pointless. Underneath it all, though, at the core of his being, there burns a rage brighter than any fire, wanting to lash out at such a cruel world.
Quick Reference
Cold on the outside, with a need to protect others so he can rationalize his anger and violence.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Serge' is not a native to Aoalvik. Hailing from lands far to the north, he lived in a small clanhouse on a small rock of an island just off the coast. His family was a happy clan of fishermen and sheepherders, unconcerned with the trouble happening on the mainland. However, even as they remained light and carefree, the Wyld Folk turned their eyes to the small island, their lack of huge amounts of food or other supplies no concern of theirs. The first warning that Sergei's people got was the sight of twelve longboats sailing towards them at the crack of dawn. Scrambling to the docks, the islanders managed to cast off one single fishing boat, filled with the young of the community, with Sergei, the oldest at the age of twelve, their leader. They got far enough away so the screams of their families were faint, and the smoke from their clanhall burning was naught but a thin finger of smoke in the sky.
Making their way southward along the coast, the band of children, led by Sergei, grew smaller and smaller as the dangers of the sea claimed the lives of all but Sergei and a single baby, whom his rescuers found wrapped up in his arms, warm, while Sergei himself was grey from the chill of the sea and starvation. Taking them into the community, it was not long before Sergei was accepted as a citizen of the town.
Over the years, Sergei gained a reputation as a fierce drunkard, starting fights with his fellow fishermen, tearing up alehalls, and being a general nuisance. However, he was saved from his downward spiral by two things; one, his responsibility to the child, named Alexi, and a grizzled old hunter, known only as Wolf. Wolf saw this young man's life going down a dark path, so he became his role model, teaching him to hunt, and how to channel the fury that was always there, just under the surface.
Eight years Wolf took care of Serge' and Alexi, until one day, he simply vanished one night, tracks erased by the blizzard that rocked the land. After that, Sergei wasn't the same. He said he wanted to fight so he could protect his 'son', Alexi. He said he had grown to love the town. Maybe he did mean that, once. Now, however, he simply looks for a fight, and the Wyldfolk are more than willing to oblige.
CHARACTER MOTIVATION
Sergei is a hard man who just wants a fight, even though he may deny it, and try to justify his carnage.
SKILLS
- Fishing: It's what he grew up doing, and the skill never faded over the years. - Tracking: Sergei can track most anything over any terrain, with great accuracy. - Stealth: Sergei has been able to hide in even the sparsest cover, becoming invisible in the blink of an eye. - Axe Fighter: Sergei is a masterful axeman, able to defeat dozens of men on his own without tiring. - Dirty Fighting: Sergei fights effectively, not fair. Welcome, one and all, to the city of Northome. This RP is a (mostly) open-world game where you play as criminals, law enforcement officers, or vigilantes in the crime-infested megacity of Northome, in the year 2092. The world of the near-future has seen quite a bit of advancement, in terms of technology, however, the people of tomorrow remain just as greedy, selfish, and closed-minded as those of today. Let's get started.
-----------------------------------------------
The City Itself
Northome is an artificial city, constructed off of the eastern coast of the United States, about 35 miles out of Boston, within spitting distance of Massachusetts Bay. It was originally built by the US government to deal with overpopulation along the west coast, but it quickly gained a reputation for its' thriving underworld. It has everything, from sprawling industrial sectors to modern business divisions, making it one of the largest cities on the face of the planet, only rivaled by Tokyo. It has several levels underwater, but they are usually reserved for city maintenance.
The Four Crime Groups
There are four major groups that control most of the underworld of crime, each holding dominance over their own sector of larceny.
The Trezza Family
Ahhh, the Trezza family. What can I say about them? For one, half the money that goes through this city goes through them first, one way or the other. For one thing, all of my businesses are all under their 'protection'. On the other hand, they're the real classy gangsters you read about in fantasy novels and see in the movies, the types who wore suits and gunned down their rivals from a classic Bentley or Rolls-Royce. So I guess they're okay, as gangsters go. Honorable. But I wouldn't even think about crossing them. They don't take betrayal well.
Region: Business 'control'
Don Victor Trezza
A charismatic yet deadly man of 62, Victor is a leader all in the Family look up to. He is a dangerous man, but if you betray him or the family in any way, he's coming after you.
Antoine Trezza
A rugged, scarred man of 37, Antoine Trezza is the eldest son of Victor and the current face of the Trezza Family. He is currently in a happy relationship with his wife, Audrey.
Audrey Trezza
Despite her young looks and innocent face, Audrey is a woman of 34 and tough as nails, known to dispose of troublesome capos for her husband, whether he knows it or not.
Michaelangelo Trezza
Michaelangelo is a scarred, heavily augmented man, 29 years of age, with a temper like a pitbull. Even though he's the Don's youngest son, which would lead you to expect him to be a capo of some sort, he's the most feared enforcer of the family, because he actually likes the work.
The Denisovich Party
The Denisovich Party. Those Russian thugs. What is there to say about them? They are crude, they are brutal, and they are very good at what they do, which is control Northome's drug trade with an iron fist. They're in it for the money, and they don't care whose toes they step on to get it.
Region: The Drug Trade.
Yeleshev Feliks Georgiy
Feliks is a hard man. He takes no excuses, gives no quarter, accepts no pleas of forgiveness. While his gang's profits are high, his tributes are higher, and he wants them on time. He has had so many augmentations and has been around so long no one really knows his age, nor is brave enough to ask.
The Kaentora Kyōkai
Ah, the Association. Not related by blood, but tighter than most families out there. Their structure is what allows for a group of their size to function effectively. The Yakuza are the second-largest group out there, behind the Consortium, and they are quite effective.
Region:Illicit entertainment (gambling, prostitution, VirtuaLife)
Yamane Yu
Yamane is a girl, only 23 years old, but she has managed to take control of the second-largest criminal association in Northome. She is beautiful, but deadly, and she will not hesitate to kill you without a second thought, thus her title.
Kanai Renzo
Kanai is the most feared hitman in Northome, a ghost, able to kill without leaving a trace. Fearful in his own right, this augmented man of 40 is completely loyal to his Scarlet Empress, obeying her without question.
Fujimoto Yu
An imposing man, Fuji is Yamane's uncle, the man who backed his niece's power grab within the Kaentora Kyōkai. He is in charge of running all of the corporations that the Yakuza own, and thus, is one of the richest men in the city.
The Consortium
Can I... Can I talk about someone else, please? The Maskers, the- okay. I'll tell you about the Consortium. They are... supremely good at manipulating the Net, and breaking into your life. With the dawn of direct-access, they are even more dangerous, because they can HACK your BRAIN. Luckily, they don't seem inclined to do that as a whole, either serving as pranksters or cybermercenaries. Nobody knows much about them, except they hide their identities better than the Maskers.
Region: Cybercrime
'Luna'
Luna is the tag for a hacker so good, she doesn't even need to hide her face when she deems to show it. She is, in fact, the de facto leader of the Consortium, and her motives are so hidden, so mysterious, not even Boo knows what they are. She seems to be around twenty-two years old.
'Boo'
Even a loose, chaotic group of hackers needs control, and 'Boo' is that wo/man. Nobody knows who they are, and they are the second best hacker in the city, second to Luna. 'Boo' is Luna's voice among the community, and is most often found on their community threadboards. They are quite vocal about social activism, but are chaotic and erratic in their own right, saying one thing one day and another the next.
Technology
The level of technology is quite advanced, with cybernetic augmentations to humans, flying cars, brain uploading, etc. However, the aforementioned brain uploading and direct access to the Net through your mind are relatively new, and cloning is nonexistent.
In regard to weapons technology, it's mostly ballistics and advanced explosives, but there is the odd laser-based weapon or two.
The cybernetic enhancements can do most anything, except grant psychic powers, telepathy, telekinesis, etc.
Otherwise, go nuts.
