It was chilly, Esther decided. Especially with what she was wearing - it was stylish, but the thin fabric and lace didn't do much in terms of combatting the crisp winter air. She was too classy for a coat. Then she would have to lug it around all evening, and it would be awful. No, it was either be cold or not show up at all.

At that moment, she wasn't the coldest Frey, however. In the place of a coat, she'd draped a suit jacket around her shoulders, black with red accents, much like her own dress. As for the owner of it? He was at her side, shivering just as much as Esther was and making no attempt to conceal it. Cain Frey, her very own cousin and personal wind breaker.

"Hey, uh, Ess. You're gonna give that back, right," Cain whined. He sped up slightly and his cousin followed suit. Both of them were pretty desperate to just get to the damn masquerade and out of the cold. And both were seriously regretting parking so far from the location. Esther had claimed that it was safer for them to not be anywhere near the actual location. That turned out to be a mistake, because it had been ten minutes and they were only just coming close to where they were supposed to be.

"Oh, you shouldn't worry about that. Of course, I wouldn't be caught dead in this thing." As if to prove a point, she shrugged it off of her shoulders, letting it slide to the ground. Cain caught it quickly, putting it back on just as fast. "But hey, that can't possibly be it. We must be in the wrong place." There wasn't much to look at. Just an abandoned hotel in the middle of somewhere. Not nearly extravagant enough for this kind of event. Esther narrowed her eyes. She'd been looking forward to the masquerade. "Look what you've done. We'll definitely be late at this rate." As they walked up to the front of the building, nothing about it changed.

"You're the one who... oh, nevermind," Cain said. "Well, it's totally the right address. Unless we got the wrong invite, this is the right place, yeah? Maybe the budget's been a little tight lately so they had to cut back on costs. You know how things are these days. Capitalism and all that, yeah." He pushed on the door, dragging a reluctant Esther in with him. She eyed the building suspiciously as she passed through the doorway.

Then the mirage vanished, revealing the true interior of the hotel. Esther let out a sigh of relief. Much, much better. But there was no time to admire it. This time, it was her who took Cain by the wrist.

"Wha-"

"Drinks, darling. They're free, aren't they?" Esther gave him a harsh tug.

"Cheers to that." Cain rolled his eyes, allowing himself to be led to where all of the tables had been set out. Not what he'd expect as his cousin's first priority, but that wasn't to say it annoyed him in any way. The food didn't disappoint at all. He absent-mindedly picked up a few things as Esther checked out the variety of beverages, looking around. A lot of people, more then he even knew. And Cain liked to think that quite a lot of people came around to the shop. Most were well dressed, though there were a few in more causal outfits, and some that were just straight up gaudy.

Who wore chains to a ball, anyway? Even Cain, who had worn the same jacket every day for the last three years, found that a little distasteful. The sheer amount of confidence that woman must have had was impressive.

The minute Neres entered the barracks, she was immediately pinned down. She watched helplessly as her health dropped down, and down, and...

Okay, so maybe handing in the quest wasn't as easy as she thought. She really should've expected this. The guards were much stronger than them, probably to prevent people from ravaging a helpless village right off of the bat. Nevertheless, she made a silent vow to return some day and get her revenge. When she was done with the eternal grind, she would come back to Bellview and beat up all of the guards. That actually sounded like a lot of fun, so she made a point to try to not forget it.

Pulling herself off of the floor, she left a quick message in the chat to figure out what the hell she was supposed to do.

[Lothair]: Gotta treat the game like real life, fam. Kinda illegal and rude to walk into a military barracks irl without permission

It was astonishing how much sense that made. It wasn't completely clear how she would get permission to go in - she couldn't go into the barracks to ask for it. Then it would make sense for there to be someone else she was supposed to find around the town. That was the logical conclusion, which she hadn't been making a lot of lately.

Classic developer tactic to force you to explore. However! She would complete this task with utmost efficiency. Determined, she strode into the shopping district, still looking very dishevelled. As soon as she got close enough to the other people, she yelled as loud as she could:

"Hello! I need someone to show me into the barracks! Like, now!"

Overall? Things were going well. Neres wasn't quite level three yet, but she would get there soon. That didn't matter though - because she had obtained the most powerful item of all. A really nice hat.

Sure, she hadn't gotten it herself. She'd just traded Mimika for it. It was a joint effort, though. It was their combined effort that had gotten them that hat. The fruits of their labours had ripened and god, they were good. She couldn't say the same for the tunic she had, which was more sticky than any item of clothing should ever be, but it gave her stats...

"Woo! We did it, Mimika!" she said, throwing her arms up into the air. It was still bewildering how she could move so effortlessly. "Without that other guy, too!" In her vision, the arrow indicating her next objective popped up. "Oh, we should... follow this, right?"

So she did, and soon she found herself in the town of Bellview. She was impressed once again with how alive it was. There were many people, a lot of them selling various things. But Neres ignored them all, because she had no money. Thalam Online was a truly realistic game. The arrows continued all the way up to the barracks, where the aptly named 'Tu Tauri Al' was waiting.

"Oh. That was surprisingly easy," she said. Without caring for consequences, she opened up the door and walked in. Time to hand in that quest!

interactions: @Jacky | Tatsuo Isao

The day continued. Kikumi left her underlings to their own devices, unusually. That isn't to say that she didn't check up on a few of them - but it was the evening and she needed some time for herself. She made her way down to the beach, though it seemed that she had been beaten there by some others. Tatsuo and a few of her students, no doubt enjoying the fresh sea air. The sea was chaotic, yet also calm and serene. The very thing that drew her to the breath in the first place. Seeing it was already occupied, Kikumi decided against going to the beach.

Instead, she made her way back to her home. It was much larger than the rooms of the students. The gift of owning the area. She gave a small nod in greeting to the flowers lining her walls, entering swiftly. It was silent, but she could tell there was someone in there before she saw them.

"You didn't come and see me," the person said. "Did Emi not tell you?"

"She did. But you're here anyway." Kikumi sighed. "Tell me what you want and go." She shuffled out of her shoes, staring up at Tsurugi. The useless one.

"Ah, it's been weeks. Aren't you happy to see me again?"

"No. You're not allowed in here." Kikumi placed her shoes neatly next to the door. She began to walk further into her house.

"Is that so? I'm leaving again tomorrow, so..." Tsurugi said, reaching for her shoulder.

"I see." She swerved his hand. "I wish you a safe trip." She didn't get a reply. Just a loud sigh and the sound of the door opening then closing. If that man had any redeeming qualities, it was that he knew when to quit. Even if he did it too often. Still, Kikumi felt a disappointed. Her house was too empty. Now it was just her, her thoughts, and all of the paperwork she had to do. It remained like that for the rest of the night.

The next day came. Kikumi had slept less than she'd wanted to. Her mind was going in circles about the River Pillar business. She couldn't decide on anything. But that could wait until the night came once more. While the sun was up, it was time to train. She got ready quickly, slipping outside into the sunrise. Another day on the Sea Pillar Estate.

On the agenda for the day - starting the newbies on their training. That was, of course, Tatsuo's job. But Kikumi would go down later regardless. There was a decent chance he'd be off doing something else. On top of that, she'd need to organise her other students and then keep an eye on the new demon slayers. Just to see how they were settling into things. So much to do and only twenty-four hours in the day.
