Name: Guld Oak
Parents: Trad Oak and Diamond Frost
Age: 13
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Weapon: Guld carries a Golden Balisong Knife. Though he isn’t trained in combat, he knows a variety of tricks to both show off and or intimidate.
Semblance: As he doesn’t train his aura at all, Guld has yet to discover his Semblance.
Personality: Guld isn’t a very outgoing. Being insecure about his size he usually won't say much to anyone outside the family. In the family, however, he can usually open up more especially with his sister.
Guld is a borderline kleptomaniac, he loves stealing from basic shoplifting to pickpocketing high priced items. If there is something that catches Guld's eye, there’s a good chance it’ll be in his possession later that day.
Appearance: Guld is sort of a runt. Short and frail he has yet to hit a growth spurt but he uses his nimble figure to his advantage. His eyes and face match that of his dad and his mother's naturally golden hair, but like her he loves to dye it red while keeping it short and spiked. He'll often wear a dark yellow hoodie with black jeans that are a size too big.
Biography: A few years after graduation, Trad found defending Remnant didn’t give his life the meaning he thought it would. Feeling depressed, he found himself at a bar he used to go to with an old friend, and by chance that friend was there too! That night of drinking and reminiscing later turned to one of passion and then a morning of embarrassment. Not long after Trad was informed that he would be a father. Not going to leave Diamond to raise the child on her own, he left the hunters and offered to marry her, which to Trad’s surprise she accepted almost immediately.
Fast forward 4 years. The two had a steady bar/café business and a beautiful daughter. Things were going so great for the family, Trad found he wanted another kid. It took some convincing but eventually Diamond warmed up to the idea and 9 month later Guld Oak joined the family.
Unfortunately, Guld seemed to get all their negative traits. Physically he was small and weak while mentally he was average at best. This wouldn’t have been so bad if his older sister wasn’t the greatest at everything. He always felt he let his parents down, and while they would never say it, they never really looked at him the same way they did Sky.
Guld never blamed Sky though, in fact he looked up to her. Once more Sky was great at everything, that included being a great big sister. When he had trouble with school work, Sky helped him out. Bullies start to pick on him, she made sure they left him alone. Whenever he really needed a friend, big sis was always there for him.
That was until Sky started working full time at the family café. Between her new job and schooling, Sky had less and less time to hang with her little brother. Now with his whole family working he found himself alone with nothing to do.
Then one fateful day, Guld was at the store with his mother when his eyes caught sight of his favorite candy bar. He begged his mother to let her have him have it, but being close to dinner time she refused. With a determined sweet tooth, Guld found himself slipping the candy in his jacket and walking out of the store with it. It was amazing. The rush of adrenaline, the thrill of knowing he got away with a crime, he never felt so alive!
It just got worse from there. He went from simple items like the candy bar, to small knick-knacks, and eventually he started swiping jewelry. Guld not only had a taste for stealing, but he was good at it. For once in his life he was good at something, but he knew he could never tell anyone, not even his sister.
“Hello? Anyone home?” Guld called out as he entered his home. There was no response, signaling that the house was currently empty. Typical. He had just gotten out of school which meant everyone else had either gone to work, or in the case of his mother, gone to bed. It had almost become routine at this point, but he still made sure to check if anyone was there just to be sure he wouldn’t be caught.
On his way home he had noticed a rather nice looking ice dust crystal sitting in the window of a shop. After a quick trip inside it was now tucked away in his jacket pocket. Dropping his bag at the door he made his way to his room, but checked in his parent’s first. Even if she was asleep the mere presence of his mom would require him to be much more careful. Luck seemed to be with him as their room was empty. “Perfect. Time to go to work.”
Running to his room he pushed his bed away from the wall then looked for a slit in the carpet where one of the legs had been. Once he found it he pulled up revealing a makeshift trapdoor. Underneath was a plethora of items he had pilfered over the years. Everything from random household items to a rainbow of dust crystals was hidden there, and now it was time to add one more.
Slipping out the gem Guld took one last moment to admire the newest addition to his collection before dropping it into the stash.
“What are you doing?” Trad’s voice boomed from behind.
“DAD!” Guld went into full panic mode. He slammed the trapdoor shut and stood in front of it trying to obscure his dad’s view. “Nothing.”
“Don’t nothing me. What happened do your floor? Why does it look like you ripped the carpet up?” Trad pushed his son aside and ignored his pleas for him to not look. Reopening the trapdoor, Trad couldn’t believe what he saw. “Where did you get these? Have you been stealing?” Guld averted his eyes from his father’s gaze, he knew there was nothing he could say. “ANSWER ME!” Trad raised his voice getting his son to respond to his question.
“Yeah, so what? It’s not like I’ve ever been caught.” Guld tucked his hands into his pockets and kept his gaze on the floor.
Trad stood up and put his hands on the back on his head, “How long has this been going on?”
Guld shrugged, “I dunno...2 years.”
Trad’s jaw dropped in complete disbelief, “WHAT? You’ve been doing this for 2 years! Oh my god.” He walked past guld shaking his head, “Your mother is going to be livid when she finds out.”
Guld had been afraid this whole time, but his fear up to that point paled in comparison to the moment he heard mention of his mom. “Y-you’re not going to tell her are you?”
“How can I not?” Trad turned to face Guld once more, “Do you have any idea the mess you’ve gotten us into? What would happen if anyone found out? We could lose everything! Our house, our business, everything we’ve worked for would be GONE! And you! You could go to jail for the rest of your childhood for this!” Guld didn’t budge. He kept staring silently at the floor not even acknowledging his father’s scolding. “Do you even care?”
“DO YOU?” Guld finally snapped, but his rage was immediately replaced with remorse has tears began streaming down his face. He collapsed in a ball on the floor sobbing and holding his head in his arms, “I screwed up big time.”
Trad was in complete shock hearing the words of his son, “What do you mean? Of course I care! You’re my son.” Trad sat on the floor next to his son and put his arm around him. “Why would you ever think otherwise?”
Guld was able to fight back the tears long enough to respond but kept his head in his arms, “Because I’m just a screw up. You and mom were big time hunters and sis is top of her class at business school. Then you have me. I’m short, stupid, and weak. I’m just a just disappointment.” He wiped his eyes with his sleeve hoping it would end his crying. “The only thing I’ve ever been good at is stealing, but even that’s a bad thing.”
Trad understood everything now, “Guld. You are not nor have you ever been a disappointment. The fact you feel so just means your mother and I haven’t been doing our job as parents and I’m sorry.” He pulled his son closer to him, letting Guld’s head rest on his shoulder. “And don’t compare yourself to your mother and I. You’re only 13, we’ve had our whole lives to learn the things we have. And if you don’t think you’re gifted like your sister, may I remind you that there is a small fortune hidden underneath your floor that no one but us know about? Your mother couldn’t even manage that when she was a master criminal. Not that I’m condoning that kind of lifestyle.”
His father’s words were exactly what he needed to hear. Guld finally made eye contact with his dad. His eyes were still red but the tears had completely stopped, “Thanks dad.” He hugged his father tightly. “I promise I won’t steal anything every again…Am… I still in trouble?”
Trad laughed at his son’s question, “Well, you sound like you’ve learned your lesson, but I still have to talk to your mother. We can’t just leave all these things under our floor.”
“Wait, I’ve got it! I’ll just return everything.” Guld let go of his dad and jumped up with excitement. “I’ll slip everything back and no one will ever know it was me.”
“I don’t know. That sounds even riskier than-“ Trad’s concerns were silenced as Guld cleared his throat and pointed to his pocket. Trad reached in to find his son had reverse pickpocketed the dust crystal. “Well damn, you really are that good. Alright then. If you can return all of your stolen items without anyone noticing, then your mother never has to know.”
He tossed the gem to Guld who caught it and twirled it around effortlessly between his fingers. “Just watch me.” A smirk appeared on Guld’s face as he tucked the gem safely once more in his pockets.
