@Behemoth542 Any questions, or suggestions?

Are you okay with Bumblebee's Speed Boost skill being used? If skills are energy-based, how much energy do you think such an ability such require per use, and would you allow it to be used multiple times in a single fight if there's enough energy available for it?

Is 'Gender' actually required on the Character Sheet? Will it come into play as part of the game at any point? Would we need to include race, nationality, place of birth or any other biographical details as well?

Would it be better to list the information on the Character Sheet in the order: Name, Stats, Level, Skills, Traits, Gender, Last Mod Made as this would prioritise the information which would be needed most frequently during battles?

  • Considering the "Once per battle" thing, I see no problem. If you want repeated uses, you should increase the cost, due to the fact that it prevents any damage. Maybe instead become untargetable?
  • If you want to add a gender, feel free to do so.
  • Hmm, seems fair. I'll think about it

<Snipped quote by Behemoth542>

I suggest you answer my questions three:

What is you name?

What is your quest?

What is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

  • Behemoth542
  • Stuff
  • I don't know, perhaps googling it is a valid option

Also, passive skills are traits. At the moment, you start with only a skill. Later you may add that as a trait.

@Genni's character seems fine at the moment. I like how you guys are talking about the characters.

The way I read it we'll mostly be facing off against a single target...

Spoiler: there will be instances of multiple enemies. Heroes don't always have numerical advantage.

Would damage healed be classed as damage dealt for XP gain purposes? The effect would be against HP, but not enemy HP.

I guess I'll make it 100% ratio per HP healed. Thanks for the hindsight. Expect cookies.

Would the 'once per battle' rule still apply if the Energy system is going to be used for skills as well?

I'd have to think about it. The energy system is a way to allow repeated use of skills, but I'm still worried of special attacks being spammed. I'm still thinking of ways of balancing its use, giving a short cooldown on the skill use (1 turn or two) before you can use it again. So a dog is unable to spam the "Bite" skill, for example.

Energy Regeneration Issue

I'd say when the turn begins. Seems better that way.

@Error

  • BC has a point, you're spending 8 StP on that character. Fix that, please
  • Also, I don't see the point on 16 hp. For the last chance thing, I doubt it matters. Just stick to the basics, please.
Maybe later you can get to summon it as a skill, getting a boost on stats and skills.
Also, lack of posts is due to two days without internet. Router problems.

So, during that hiatus, I came up with other mechanics I'm going to add shortly:

  • Health increases its value by 5 per stat point.
  • Everyone starts with 7 stat points to distribute among skills. Each level up grants 4 StP (I'm going to us StP for stat points and SkP for skill points, from now on)
  • At the start of the game, everyone will have a basic stat value of 15/0/0
  • Experience gain mechanics:
    • By damage dealt: 100% ratio at the moment. Dealt means any damage kind of damage that affects the enemy's HP. Damage blocked by the enemy yields no XP
    • By damage prevented: 50% ratio at the moment. Prevented means any kind of damage nullified by defense, traits, evasion, etc.
    • By damage received: 25% ratio at the moment. Damage received is any damage that affects your own HP
  • To use skills, an Energy system will be implemented. Everyone will have a default 100 Energy and 10 Energy/turn regeneration. Active skills will cost a certain amount of Energy, which can overlap with the regeneration. Both the maximum Energy and its regeneration can be modified by traits, but not by StP

Any questions, or suggestions?

In case you're wondering, I just realized I posted this on the wrong sub-forum. I'll delete this later, just informing you that this has been moved to the Tabletop interest checks.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Hello, thank you in advance for reading this and welcome to the interest check of an idea I wanted to work with. I'll detail the different mechanics that form the core to this game. But first the plot:

So, yeah. You'll join BattleCorp™ in hopes of... I don't know, depends on you. What's really important is what happens when you join it. You'll be paired with your future teammates to train in order to become a great [insert RPG class here]. And by training I mean fighting (and defeating) an apparently endless number of minions, provided by BattleCorp's™ head summoner Voice-Box-in-the-corner-of-the-room, one by one.

The character sheet be something like this:

Mechanics

  • I'll spawn an enemy for the players to fight, and give it an action every two days or so.
  • The actions are divided in turns, which last between each enemy post.
  • Every player may act once per turn, unless otherwise stated by an active buff, trait or battle conditions.
  • The default attack is simply stating that you attack. It will deal (playerAttack - enemyDefense) damage. Damage cannot be negative unless a trait or something similar allows that to happen.
  • You are not limited by simply attacking. Creativity when acting is encouraged (For example, you throw a stone you picked from the ground instead of simply attacking) as it may have additional effects. However, try to keep it somewhat simple and consistent. Be aware that those additional effects may not be always benefical.
  • When you win a fight, you get EXP, which allows you to level up. This gives you some stat points and a skill point, which can be spent on a skill or a trait.
  • When an enemy dies, I'll give you some time to settle down (A turn, most times) and spend your stat and skill points. After that time, I'll spawn another enemy. This will go on for a while.

Alright, this is, basically, how the game will be. If you have any ideas or suggestions, ask away.

ScrewUp Tally: 4:

Name: Edith Blakeslee

Side: Tech

Sex: Female

Age: 29

Race: Human Cyborg

Appearance: Edith is a tall, slender woman with a slim yet athletic build. She's got a light brown skin tone, and long, brunette hair usually tied in a ponytail. Due to her cybernetic modifications, several of her body parts have been replaced. The most prominent change is a dark, reflective and featureless mask that covers Edith's whole face, which also functions as an enhancement to her sense of sight and hearing. The cost of this is the fact that this mask is attached and connected directly to her brain, meaning that behind the mask most of her actual face has been removed. Other modifications are resistant and slick looking legs, and a cybernetic arms.
Edith commonly dresses with beige, baggy cargo pants tucked under black military boots and a black leather jacket over a moss green tank top. She also tends to use biker gloves.

Personality: Edith is, by nature, a proud, strong-willed and confident woman. She heavily values individuality and the different quirks that make any single person unique from others. Due to this, she hates the mask she's been made to wear, believing it is made like that to make her one of many, and effectively erases her identity.
She's very determined to finish whatever job she has been given, and will not quit until it has been completed in a satisfactory way. Because of her past, she's very attached to kids, and wants to have one of her own.
She has a liking towards rock music and similar genres, disliking electronic music on its majority.

Faction: N/A. Edith is currently a freelancing mercenary.

Biography:

Skills:
Athletic: Even before getting her cybernetic enhancements, Edith was at a formidable physical condition. Now, thanks to her augments, she's now even stronger and faster than before, capable of keep running at high speeds for a very long while. She's also quite nimble.
Acrobatics: On par with her athletic prowess, Edith's also capable of performing stunts on par with an average gymnast.
Close combat: Edith is extremely capable of dealing with 4 or 5 average humans at the same time while being unarmed. She's also got some experience with melee weapons.

Abilities:
Cybernetic modifications: Pretty much self-explanatory, most of her body was modified and improved to make her a better soldier overall. These changes include:
  • Enhanced memory: Due to the modifications made to her cerebral cortex, Edith is now able to recall memories with great precision. However, this only applies to things that happened after her modifications (for obvious reasons).
  • Enhanced sight and hearing: Her mask allows her to easily see things that normal humans would need a glass lens to fully capture their details. Her hearing also picks up tones above and below the ones that a common ear would perceive. Also, due to the nature of her mask, her field of vision is drastically improved, leading her to seeing in her peripherical vision like she was staring directly at it.
  • Physical improvement: Simply put, Edith has much more stamina than an average human. Along with the ability of running very fast for very long, Edith now doesn't need to eat, drink or sleep, the energy to do different things generated by a powercore located next to her heart.
  • Retractable blades: Edith has short, retractable sawed blades inside her arms, near her wrists. These blades are fairly durable and sharp.
  • Short-range needle gun: On her left wrist there is a small gun that fires heated needles in a straight line. They're very sharp and resistant, even when taking into account their miniscule size.

Possessions:
  • A small handgun
  • A survival knife
