Where No Man Treads | Apocalyptic Dark Fantasy Western
The world of Terrene during the 6th century or as common folk referred to it as the Golden Age of Magic is a world domineered by mages. With their powerful sorcery, mages constructed kingdoms, imposed law and order on the land, and defended the life and liberty of the people residing under their rule. The success of the mages ushered humanity into their role as the dominant race upon Terrene. Unfortunately, the elves saw things differently. They believed humans to be cruel, arrogant creatures that relied on an otherworldly source of power. Magic is taboo to elves who believe that the practitioners of sorcery are dabbling in forces connected to Helheim—the realm of demons and the sinful dead. As guardians of Mydgaar—the Waking Realm or the realm of the living—the elves saw it as their duty to stop humanity's reliance on magic. Thus they declared war on the mages; one that lasted for nearly a century.

At the turn of the 7th century and nearing the war's end, the elves were on the cusp of victory. That is until their greatest fear came to fruition. An organization of mages known as the Umbral Order developed magic that allowed them to form rifts in the dimensional fabric and essentially create portals to Helheim. Using magic to control the minds of demons, mages formed demonic armies to help in their fight against the elves. The demon armies dwarfed those of the elves and their otherworldly might eventually led to the mages—and humanity's—victory. Consequently, the mages then enslaved what was left of the elven race. Even to this day, the elves have yet to be liberated. Humanity was unstoppable thanks to the mages. However, peace did not last and the mages' control over the demons soon faded. While attempts at utilizing magic to once again regain control of the demons were somewhat successful at first, the potency of their magic deteriorated at an alarming rate and the demons could no longer be controlled.

The demonic armies ravaged the lands of Terrene like wild fire, destroying everything in their path with seemingly no end in sight. While mighty indeed, magic proved its limitations when even the combined forces of all mages could only temporarily halt the demons' campaign of destruction. The other races of Terrene and even the normal humans were quick to place the blame on the mages for summoning this unstoppable force. Then came the advent of the Man in White. History tells us that the Man in White is an unclear figure of unknown origins but is seen by many as a messiah with tremendous magical power. He drove the demonic armies back to Helheim accompanied by his seven followers and, then, they disappeared from the world without a trace. Divine intervention one might say or is it something entirely different? Something far more sinister? The world may never find out.

The members of the Umbral Order were shortly thereafter executed for their crime. Terrene would enjoy a brief age of respite. In this quiet age, the invention of firearms seemed a foolish ideal but its popularity became so that conventional weaponry that's been around for millennia such as swords and spears were abandoned in a "day". Even the majority of mages could not compete with the deadly potency of firearms and opted to combine their sorcery with this new kind of weaponry, replacing their tomes for muskets that, while slower, when combined with magic proved uniquely destructive.

Fast forward to today, the 10th century, particularly the year XX16, the world of Terrene looks starkly different than it did before. Half of the world is nearly a desert wasteland; the other half: scorched earth. This half of Terrene is plagued by demons who arrived from random rifts in the dimensional fabric. It seems the lingering magic of the Umbral Order caused a destabilization in space-time which resulted in these random portals. After the demons arrival, half of the planet became uninhabitable with the threat of the complete takeover of Terrene looming in the horizon. The mages are all but gone. Only a few thousand individuals with magical ability remains and they form the Mages Order with each member being identified by a distinctive brand somewhere on their body. Armed with notably a six shooter and their magic, the mages of the Order are committed to right the wrongs of their predecessors by finding a way to defeat the demonic force that threatens the world. Thus they venture off to the lands where no man treads...

The setting of this RP is primarily based on the Old West with elements of dark fantasy taking place during an apocalyptic event. It is mostly a free roam RP but the story of the Mages Order's quest to stopping the advancing demonic forces will be at the forefront of things. There are five races: humans, elves, dwarves, halflings, and the Ancient. Humans are the dominant race and the only ones that can be mages. Most elves are enslaved but some have earned their freedom or are on the run from their slavers. Dwarves are mostly known for their fine firearm craftsmanship and typically live as traders. Halflings are short, feral-looking humans who walk on bare feet and are known to be quite roguish in nature. They are looked down upon as a race but are seen above elves. The Ancient are a sub-race of giants typically ranging from 7 to 9 feet in height who still use old-world weaponry such as swords and spears. They can use magic weapons but, unlike mages, cannot use magic without a weapon. In the past, mages cast their spells through tomes and grimoires but those have now been replaced by firearms, usually a revolver. The number of spells they can cast are limited to the number of bullets they carry but they can cast spells without their firearms. Those spells, however, are drastically less effective.

As a free roam RP, you of course can follow your own stories and such. Optionally, at the start of the RP, your character has been contracted to accompany a band of surveyors into the demonic lands. The story will begin from there. Posting expectations are adaptable, meaning I'm not concern with how lengthy your posts are as long as they follow the standard guidelines for a Casual RP. Adding more to a post is just icing on top. As an aside: I'm open to having Co-GMs if anyone's interested in moderating the OOC and such. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to let me know.
Next dungeon is Trevor's but right now we're on free time to develop the Arcana ranks, earn money, and what not. Basically prepping for the next dungeon.
@Yorutenchi No need. I'm glad to see that you've posted so you done your part.

The RP can't continue without people posting and everyone seems to be busy.
@Kitsune Neglected to respond but yes, there are spots available.

I'm glad to see Aqua has posted. I really don't want to see this RP die so early in the story. I'm hoping to see more posts soon.
All this time only a few people have posted. RP may be dead :/
Okay... Honestly, is this RP dead? Because no one is posting (Bleu aside).
Alright, posted. Hopefully, things will get back on track soon. Several more days before the next dungeon so everyone should prepare.
It was getting late and everyone had to get back to their dorms. Dai was the first to leave but, before he did, he left everyone his cell phone number in case they needed to contact him in the future. Kazuo thanked Dai and told him that he'll see him later before entering Dai's contact information into his own cell phone. It was Saito who was the next to leave and, like Dai, he also gave out his contact information. Kazuo recorded it into his phone. Before either one of them left, Kazuo gave them his number as well. Then Shinku decided to leave but didn't mention her contact information. Kazuo wanted to ask for it directly but couldn't muster the courage to. Before he could make up an excuse to ask for her number, Shinku had left. Kazuo and Gruffydd were left at the table. Kazuo asked for his number and, after getting a response, left for the dorms.

On the way, he passed by Tee-Party but didn't see anyone inside. Curious, he entered the store and walked to the counter. He could hear someone's voice coming from a backroom. The voice was quite cheerful and energetic, talking about poses or something - like for a photo shoot perhaps. Before he could leave, the owner of the store came out from the back room and caught Kazuo's attention with a boisterous hello. Kazuo turned around and said he was just looking to see if his friends were around. "Oh, too bad, I thought you were a custom... Hey, you know you're a pretty handsome guy. You have this look about you that screams 'Victorian period costumes'. You'd make a great model for my catalog."

Kazuo was caught off guard by that and he was too flustered to respond. "I'm Hikari by the way! Introductions aside, I need to get you in one of my new costumes!" Kazuo replied that he doesn't think it's a good idea. Hikari frowned when she heard his response; she seemed disappointed but then quickly perked back up. "Oh come on, please~! It's not like you'll be doing it for free. How does ¥860 a day sound to you? At least let me show you my studio!" Reluctantly, Kazuo was pulled into the backroom. There, he was greeted by a surprising sight: Bride and Ito, dressed up for a photo shoot. Kazuo politely smiled and waved at them. "Oh, so these two are your 'friends'. What a coincidence." Kazuo nodded and walked towards the two of them. He looked at their outfits and, choosing his words carefully, complimented them.

"Oooo~ I'm getting a bunch of ideas already for the next shoot now that I'm working with a trio!" Hikari exclaimed as she panned around the three of them forming her hands into a camera. Kazuo politely responded that he didn't agree to work as a model. "Awww, you can't deny a photographer her vision!" Hikari complained. Sighing, Kazuo said that he would think about it. "Great! That's all I needed to hear! Hm, aww, darn it, it's late already... Looks like we have to wrap things up for the day. Bride, Ito, thank you for a beautiful shoot! I hope you guys come back. I have your pay right here." Hikari hands an envelope to each of them. Kazuo said that he needed to get back to school and said bye to the three of them. Before exiting the backroom, he glanced back one more time at Bride and Ito - they do look quite good in those outfits.
April 12th / Wednesday / Sunny

Before heading out to have breakfast by the cherry blossom trees, Kazuo spent a few minutes casually chatting with Dai since he caught him early in the morning. After which, the daily school routine began. As usual, Kazuo felt quite bored in class. All he could think about as of late is, understandably, his Persona and the other world the group fell into. He also gave some thought to Igor's warning about the upcoming 'calamity'. He needs to prepare for that. After classes were over, Kazuo wandered the school grounds before arriving at the baseball field. It seems they had tryouts today. Kazuo loved baseball as a kid but, by now, he is pretty rusty at it. It could be fun though. Why not? Kazuo walked over to the signup table and filled out the form to join the team. After completing the forms, he spent time talking with the other signups as well as people already on the team. Three hours soon passed by when he decided to join a quick game.

Arc 1: The White Mask | Chapter 1: A Flame Casts a Shadow

Regaining consciousness, Inotsu Yamanaka opened his eyes only to be greeted by a horrific sight: Fuyuha Village engulfed in flames. Everywhere he looked, all Inotsu could see are collapsed buildings and the corpses of dead shinobi; some of them were his comrades from Konohagakure. He only hopes that the women and children were evacuated successfully. To either side of Inotsu are his ANBU teammates - unconscious but not dead fortunately. On the ground immediately next to him is his ANBU mask which has shattered into numerous pieces. Inotsu tried uttering a few words to his teammates but only managed a light cough. Dried blood caked the area surrounding his mouth. Finally, his teammates gradually regained their consciousness too.

"Ahh... So you've all finally awakened," a deep, distorted voice emanated from above the ANBU operatives. Inotsu looked up to the sky to see a familiar floating figure. Dressed in a hooded black cloak along with a featureless white ANBU mask is the team's target known simply by the epithet: White Mask. The masked man turned to face the wounded ANBU team and stretched his arms out. "Beautiful isn't it? This is my vision... My vision for Konoha."

Inotsu struggled but finally got back up onto his feet using the wall behind him for support. "Y-You... You've killed everyone..." Inotsu uttered.

"Not everyone... Not yet..." White Mask turned around to admire his handiwork: the destroyed Fuyuha Village. "Most of the villagers are safe. Your fellow Leaf shinobi saw to that. Besides, I've no interest in killing them. I did, however, took away their homes - their livelihood," White Mask turned back to the ANBU team once more, "I believe that is a much crueler punishment—" White Mask was interrupted by a kunai flying directly towards him. However, before the kunai even reached him, it circled back around and came flying into Inotsu's right shoulder. Disciplined in resisting pain, Inotsu merely gritted his teeth as a result of the kunai embedding itself in his shoulder.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk... I'm afraid that's wasted effort on your part."

Inotsu's chakra is spent. He can't afford to use any ninjutsu techniques without the guarantee of it hitting its mark. He can't even sustain his telepathic communication with his teammates any longer. It looks like he won't be of much use in this fight. Grabbing hold of the kunai impaled in his shoulder, Inotsu forcibly removed it and tossed it to the ground. Then, using his headband, he fashioned a makeshift tourniquet to stop the bleeding. He turned to his teammates. "Sorry... It seems that I'm a terrible squad leader after all," he said with a weak smile.

Forming a one-handed hand sign, White Mask summoned four Shadow Clones of himself and they descended onto the ground below; each of them are equipped with a kunai. "The life of most ANBU are typically short and fruitless. You live and die for your village and yet your names will be forgotten from the moment you die. To history: it's like you were never born to begin with. Such a meaningless existence. Tell me: was it worth it?" The White Mask's clones approached the group. In their weakened state, it looks like the fate of the ANBU operatives are sealed...

-Six Months Earlier-

Inotsu awakened to a cool breeze and the scent of spring flowers. It seems he had inadvertently fallen asleep in the meadow that he frequently visits near Konohagakure. Under the shade of a great tree, Inotsu slept into the afternoon. Fortunately for him, there were no missions assigned to him today. Getting up onto his feet, Inotsu looked at the trunk of the tree, specifically focusing on a carving of the word "Ino-Shika-Cho". He has fond memories of visiting this place as a child with his Genin teammates and here, on this tree, they carved a reminder of their friendship. Inotsu couldn't help but smile at those memories. Then, he noticed on the ground were a pair of earrings - his own pair given to him by his sensei; they've must've fallen out of his pocket. Picking them up, Inotsu tossed them into the air and caught them as they descended before placing them back in his pocket. It's time to return to Konoha.
