Jack was back outside, walking the streets of Chronos View. The rain didn't bother him at all. It was a welcome change from the hot and cramped subway. He was heading to the local bar. It would be nice and empty at this time of day, and he knew the bartender quite well. Besides, it's a hell of a lot cleaner than his apartment.

Suddenly, some deranged old came running down the street like a dog off its leash. Jack had barely enough time to look up from the floor and step out of the way as the man came barreling past. He looked around him. Everybody was staring at that old man who had apparently come from the cafe, where a waitress was lowering her broom. Jack, still a little shocked, decided to stop standing around like a mook and continue his way to the bar.
Crud. I wasn't sure what to post, so I was putting it off. Sorry about that. I'll get something up ASAP
"Human cattle-? Oh fuck it." Emmett decided that the old man was, in fact, insane and stopped wasting brain power trying to figure the man out. Emmett entered the inn along with the others.
"Hey, you take what you can get is how I see it. This place beats city streets at least." Emmett replies to the old man, whose name he still didn't know. "I don't know about you, but I'm gonna see if there's a map or something in the inn. At least get our bearings straight."
Emmett felt the bus stop and cracked his eyes open. As his mind began waking up, Emmett gave a large yawn and stretched his arms. He heard the driver say something about staying the night in a hotel, which was absolutely out of the question for Emmett. There's a very good reason he was hitchhiking and not taking a bus or something like that: He basically has no money to spare at all, and he was pretty sure most hotels cost more than a bus ride. On the other hand, they might let him sleep on the couch in the lobby.

But anyways, it's still too early to worry about things like that. The sun's barely down. It would be a good idea to check out the village and see if there's anything useful around. For example, a map or a computer.

He turns around to face William and the others. "I reckon I'll be wandering the village. You never know what you can find here. Oh, I don't think I ever introduced myself." He extends a dirty hand. "Name's Emmett Brown. I'm making my way to The Cobbs, if you know where that is."
Emmett grumbled at the voice and turned on his side to try to sleep better. He wasn't exactly in the mood for answering "why" questions.
"Not a lot of people walk on the side of a highway for an hour." Emmett mumbled back, eyes still closed.
Car. Thumb. Whoosh.

Emmett was tired. He had been walking for a good part of an hour, sticking his thumb out every time he saw a car approach, which was about once every 5 minutes. The sun had not let up, and whatever parts of Emmett's neck wasn't already red was sunburned. He felt like a well-done omelette: scrambled and overcooked.

Trailer. Thumb. Whoosh.

He took another drink from his first bottle, draining the last drops of precious water inside. It's important to stay hydrated, stay sane. His legs didn't feel like legs anymore. They felt autonomous, moving on their own. Emmett didn't mind this. It gave his mind something else to focus on instead of his starting-to-ache soles.

Bus. Thumb. Whooscreeeecccchhhh.......

Emmett jerked into focus. He saw the bus approach, and as it got closer, the screech of the brakes being applied violated his eardrums, though he was far too tired and surprised to cover his ears. The bus came to a full stop a few meters ahead of where Emmett was standing, and the door opened with a hiss, inviting him to come over. "Well, goddamn. Looks like my luck is changing after all." He said to himself in his tired voice.

The bus was air conditioned and the cool air washed over Emmett and he took a moment to simply enjoy the sensation in case the bus suddenly decided to drive away in an act of cruelty. Thankfully, the bus driver actually motioned for Emmett to board. "We're heading to Howler's Hill" said the driver as Emmett passed. "Good. I'll get off there." he replied, and he scanned for an empty seat anywhere on the bus. There. He thought. Not too many people are sitting there. The closest people is that grampa and his kid opposite me. Hopefully they won't mind.

Emmett walks over to his seat, stows his rucksack under the chair and takes a much needed sit-down. He's already asleep when the bus drives off.
