A soft glow began to form around Sam's fists as he stood in front of the large boulder before him. The solid rock towered several feet above the peak of his head and loomed over him, taunting the young adult. The soft blue hue began to thicken and brighten before becoming as bright as the moon in the night sky. In the blink of an eye the martial artist began to unleash a barage of punches. Each punch was thrown with menacing intent but barely a sound was created as his fist collided with the solid surface. The punches rained down for a further ten seconds before the glow of his hands subsided. He took a step back and raised three fingers into the air. With each second that passed he dropped a finger until each had curled back into a fist. A sudden explosion of sound echoed in the small valley as the large boulder broke apart into many smaller pieces, collapsing into a pile at the feet of Sam.
Looking down at the rubble covering his toes he soon felt an itch at the back of his neck. It was similar to an itch he had felt before but this time it was more intense, more concerning. The itch was his bodies reaction to a power level that he should be concerned of, something the Earth had not seen for a very long time. He raised his head to the clear sky above,
Things are going to get interesting soon...I need to keep pushing the training. The thought in his mind was sensible, what he felt of the new power was far beyond anything that he had come close to feeling before. In his current state, there would be little he could do to damage the foe beyond piss them off. He needed to get stronger...to tap into the rage that fuelled his power.
***BRRRRRRZZZ*** ***BRRRRRRZZZ*** ***BRRRRRRZZZ***From his pocket he removed a small phone. It was nothing fancy, simply something his parents insisted he carried. He flipped the device open.
"Yes?" His deep voice did little beyond reinforcing his clear frustration at being disturbed.
"Sam...did you feel it?" The deeply sincere words of a deceptively powerful old man sent a shiver down Sam's spine. The voice on the phone belonged to his trainer Kojiro and in all his years as his student, Sam had never heard such fear in his trainers voice.
"Of course sensei...I mean...how could I not. Who?...What could it be?" The phone stayed silent for several moments before Kojiro replied.
"I dare not guess but whatever it is...the world is in danger. You need to return to the dojo so we can prepare you for the fight ahead. I have spoken to several other martial arts masters and they are sending their best and brightest here to train. With that power level however, I worry that fear will strike down most of the planets best...Samanosuke...you cannot be one of those." Sam clenched his fist tight.
"Of course I will fight. Even if I must give my life...i'll fight." No waiting for a response, Sam closed his phone.
If the old man is scared then this could be it...for everything. Sam could feel the temperature of his blood rise and he thought about those he cared about, those he loved and would do anything for. Whatever this power was, it would be enough to take all that away from him...enough to kill them all. Sam let out a tremendous roar as his aura exploded out around him. Nearby small rocks and debris were blown away as his power began to build, letting the rage deep within seep out ever so slightly. Then, with the quickest of thoughts, Sam launched himself into the air towards his masters dojo. He needed to train hard with the best and brightest talents of the martial arts world, he just hoped they would show. The safety of the world could depend it. He landed at the dojo soon after and greeted his master with a solemn bow. Without exchanging a word Sam waited at the entrance to the dojo for anyone who might turn up.
