Advanced RPs are usually way slower than casual ones, if that's a concern for you, casual regardless of post length is a good spot for you for sure! That's what I've noticed anyway.

how to be dynamo frokane: a guide.
step 1; randomly tag people and bait them into arguing
step 2; once someone takes the bait, make a poorly made observation about them
step 3; never stop repeating this observation
step 4; ignore any valid points they make, because losing against people who have more brain cells than you have chromosomes is for losers.
step 5; rinse and repeat daily
bonus step; if they start to ignore you, constantly tag them in the hopes they'll give your attention whoring ass some more of that loving attention.

So, and this isn't an insult, or an insinuation, or anything that is intended to upset you, @Wind Wild. But, how much does this take from the original iterations?

Also, will you allow me to join? I've missed this world. As you know being that we got into it a while back.

Essence was, and still is important to me.
@Underfire Welcome to the Guild!

Iyl watched as Lacain demonstrated what it looked like when her energy returned to her body. When he finished and looked at her with a satisfied expression, she was beaming. It looked amazing. Absently she blurted out, "Your eyes are pretty when they glow." An embarrassed expression washed over her face, and she covered her mouth as her cheeks began to redden. "Sorry..." The mage mumbled through her hands, glancing away from him.

As the two walked and talked, Iyl listened to Lacain as he told her he couldn't teleport the mirror to their location. She nodded. Of course he couldn't. That would have been too easy.

Agreeing silently when Lacain said they were closing in on their destination, she was caught off-guard when he reached out and grabbed her shoulder. His grip was tight enough that it made her wince slightly, and she glanced at him from the corner of her eye listening as he made his assessment of the situation audible.

"Lacain, I want to go with you, but I don't think the wards on this place would like that very much." She spoke after a few moments of silence, her senses attuning to the surrounding enchantments. It seemed as though only certain energy signatures were allowed beyond the point they were standing, and Lacain's was one such energy.

At this knowledge, the female mage sighed before gently removing Lacain's hand from her shoulder and taking a few steps behind him. "Go. I'll be here." She spoke somberly before leaning her back against one of the cavern walls and sliding down it to reach a sitting position.

She wanted to go with him. She wanted to see what Teraem had given Lacain with her own eyes.

Somehow, though, she knew that wouldn't be possible. This would be a journey only Lacain could take.

When Lacain commented on her energy re-entering her body, she chuckled softly, glancing over at him with a warm smile even before he asked her what it was that had happened. "Well, the short version is that when I end a summon spell the energy I used in that spell returns to my body because--depending on the summon's use--it was using my energy to sustain itself. So, when I end its time, the energy it was taking from me returns." She spoke softly, the conversation keeping her mind off of the uneasy feeling she was having. However, when she heard Lacain's response, she couldn't help but glance at him with an inquisitive look of her own.

"So, what did it look like to you?" Her voice cracked slightly when the question left her lips, revealing the nervousness she felt in asking it. "I-I mean... I've never really been able to see it myself, you know?" She stuttered, trying to give reason to something she likely didn't actually need to. While waiting for her friend to respond, the cavern once again fell into silence, leaving her mind only able to focus on one thing: the knots in her stomach.

As the two continued on in silence, Iyl felt Lacain begin some spellwork. She took this as a sign that he was feeling the same uneasiness that she was, and exhaled in a sigh of relief. When it appeared that Lacain's barrier would do nothing, she felt him try something else. When the second spell was finished, a wave of calm poured over every inch of Iyl's body. She hadn't realized just how tense she was as muscles in her back and legs began to relax, allowing her to fall into a more steady stride than the one she had previously been in.

A moment passed before she looked at him in gratitude, listening to his question as they continued to walk. She thought about it for a few moments before her hands began running through her hair. What could he have left him? Teraem was a very private and stoic individual when he really wanted to be. In truth, there was no real way to tell what it could be. In realizing that, she let out a sigh and decided to take a guess.

"Well... knowing Teraem, there's no telling." She spoke honestly, her hands falling to her sides as she continued to think. "Though, along that same vein, it's entirely possible he left you a large tome full of knowledge," She paused as something dawned on her. Teraem was the master of weird gifts.

"Lacain, do you still have that mirror Teraem gave you as a birthday present when we were kids?" Her question might've seemed frantic, or strange given the circumstances, but she had a reason for it, and it would likely dawn on Lacain as well when he heard her next question. "Didn't it have some sort of enchantment on it that we couldn't figure out at the time?" As the question left her lips, she noticed something.

The dimming light she had noticed earlier was getting closer.

It was possible that they would know the answer to Lacain's question within a few minutes.

Iyl watched with an intrigued expression as Lacain released his final spell. As the female Shae disappeared from sight, a solemn frown befell the female mage's features. She didn't like causing harm to other living beings. It wasn't in her nature. Be that as it may, she'd had no choice in this situation, if she had the outcome might've been different.

When Lacain beckoned her to step into the cavern, she obliged, only to glance back at him a moment later. This movement allowed her to see the shared understanding between her friend and her summoned knight before she started walking down further into the cavern. When she heard Lacain's footsteps inside the cavern, an apologetic smile formed on her lips. "Return. Asrin." Iyl spoke just as Lacain released the magic he'd been using to hold the archway to the cavern open.

Outside, the holy knight who had arrived to aid them in their hour of need began to fade away into naught but a golden light. Once the knight's form was completely gone, the light shot through the swiftly closing opening just before it was completely sealed, and "pierced" Iyl's body. A gasp left the woman's lips as her energy returned to her, the strength of it almost knocking her off of her feet. She didn't know what Lacain would think about what she'd just done as she'd never shown him what happened to summons when they were no longer needed for their designated task. Part of her was worried. She might have to explain to him that summons used for battle weren't the same as those he'd seen her bring into the world. If she left them to their own devices it was possible not only that they could become bloodthirsty, but also that they could sap energy from her whenever they wanted. Admittedly, she wasn't sure if they could actually do such a thing, but she was unwilling to risk it.

No matter how trustworthy the summon seemed.

Taking a moment to look at the cavern as they walked, Iyl wasn't too surprised that they were having no issue seeing, she could feel a charm woven into the stone on either side of them. Almost as if the cavern was man-made. She wondered, for a moment, if someone had made this place, what they would have constructed it for. What was it holding that they needed so badly for it to be hidden?

When Lacain caught up to her and began speaking, she was slightly surprised. Granted, they'd been fighting for the last few minutes, but since he'd brought her here he hadn't really spoken much. She found herself smiling at his inquisitive statements, and at him. "Interesting indeed." She responded with a small laugh, her hands clasping behind her back as she continued to walk.

"What you saw is something that I only just recently learned how to do," She paused, the briefest of contemplative looks on her face before she continued, "Both of us are largely unaware of the extent of what I can do, I think. Unless you've been holding out on me." She winked, laughing softly.

The two mages walked in silence for a time before a weight settled itself in Iyl's chest. Something in the cavern was filling the woman with a heavyset sense of dread. So much so, that she had to actively fight the urge to turn away from the continuing path and go back to the now sealed archway. It didn't feel as though they were even that far into their trek, so why? Why was her stomach in knots? Once again she found herself wondering what was in this cavern. What were they looking for?

Most importantly, was Lacain feeling the same thing she was? Was he just as uneasy?

As if trying to will the answer out of her friend, her eyes found his face, where they stayed for a long moment before she looked ahead again. In the darkness of the cavern, though they could see clearly, there was evidence of a dimming light far ahead of them.

Was that their destination?

As Asrin severed the giant Shae's arms and slashed his chest, Iyl's features pulled into a smile of relief even while he trampled one of the female Shae to death with his horse.

For a moment, the mage glanced at her friend, a look of gratitude for what he had imbued her summon with before she closed her eyes and began a new spell.

Iylma'tria's arms stretched out to her sides, and the golden light that had surrounded everything else she'd called forth began to envelope her body. After a few moments passed, she began to rise into the air and the golden light began to move from her full form toward her back where it formed two large protrusions before shattering once again to reveal large feathered wings that beat down the air to keep her afloat.

At the same time the wings formed, a spear of gold and silver appeared in her hand, its length twice the size of her height. For a moment she smiled down at Lacain her eyes glowing brighter than ever, just before her wings propelled her forward and out of the barriers and toward the giant Shae.

The creature, still reeling from the damage that Asrin had dealt was unprepared for the female mage who, using the force of her speed, drove the spear through its chest eliciting a loud and pain-filled roar as he began to lose his shape.

She had successfully ended the male Shae's life, but the victory was a hollow one as she flew back within the protection of the barriers, narrowly avoiding several spells hurled at her from the female Shae.

The spear, which had still been lodged in the disintegrating male Shae shattered into golden light when it hit the ground, followed swiftly after by her newly formed wings as her feet safely met the ground, her eyes closed.

She'd done her part, at least for the moment.

Blow after blow struck the stone wall that Iyl was holding up with her mind. As the Shae struck the structure, the mage could feel it as though it was striking her to a much less powerful degree. It still hurt.

With her eyes closed she couldn't exactly see what Lacain was doing, but she could feel his mana as he wove it into a new spell and sent it in the direction of the Shae that were surrounding them from within the trees. The screams that echoed through her mind caused her to wince slightly. They really didn't like whatever it was he had just done.

When Lacain's hand touched her shoulder, her eyes opened wide in surprise as he shared his energy with her. She could feel every ounce of the newly gifted power as it poured over her body, and had he been able to face her, Lacain would have seen her eyes glowing brightly. There would be no mistaking the power she was housing. Teraem was there. He was with Lacain. And now, he was with her.

A smile formed on her lips, and the ghost of a laugh could be heard between the two mages as her right hand outstretched to her side, two fingers pointed toward the trees. "Come. Asrin." She whispered the words, and a gold light came swiftly through the trees. When it was close to the edge of the wall the gold light once again shattered like glass revealing a knight on horseback galloping to their side.

Asrin was a holy knight from times long ago, and Iylma'tria had summoned him to aid them. He would happily obey.

Iylma'tria smiled somberly at Lacain's answer to her question. Though he was right in that she likely shouldn't have been left alone, the statement also made her feel weak and unwelcome. At the rest of his answer, she nodded. When he smiled at her in a more relaxed fashion she felt a pang of something in her chest. Her heart ached. In the surface of her mind she couldn't place why exactly it was happening, but some part of her deep inside was able to see what she wouldn't let herself. It could tell.

Grateful for the forewarning of their teleportation this time, Iyl pressed herself closer to Lacain just before they disappeared in an attempt to make it easier for him to move them. Granted, she was largely ignorant to the change in his power, and was unaware that the movement was unnecessary. Part of her knew he had changed in power, part of her could feel it, but due to her state of mind she was unable to really feel out what was truth and what wasn't.

One could say she was ignoring it as well, however, because it was similar to someone else's. Teraem. A man who was like a father to the woman. That's what it felt like. Maybe, just maybe if she ignored it, it would go away.

As they reappeared Iyl's eyes laid to rest on the cliff face a small frown of confusion on her face as she glanced back up at Lacain. She said nothing, however, instead choosing to watch the man as he wove his spellwork. After he recited his spell, Iyl was made aware of the sounds of the forest as they grew deathly silent.

A feeling of strong, dense mana washed over her after a few moments, causing her to glance up at her friend again. Though he wasn't outwardly reacting to the clearly encroaching threat, she could feel his energy as it wove itself around them in the form of a defensive barrier. Even this much wasn't enough to strain him.

As the wall began to crumble away, the silence in the forest gave way to gentle airy whispers. The threat was getting closer.

Shaeriel'm en were coming.

Almost as quickly as that realization occurred, a guttural roar pierced the trees closest to the two mages. A large creature which resembled a tree rose up just above the treeline. When its head emerged, it roared again. "Shit, Lacain. We've got company!" Iylma'tria's voice was a harsh whisper. She was at least trying not to break his concentration.

Just as she spoke the Shae's massive arm shot toward them at breakneck speed. "Shit!" Was the only word she could muster as her hands quickly rose above her head, palms open. A golden light followed her hands from the ground up into the air continuing up for about 50ft before the light shattered like glass, leaving in its place a massive wall of stone. The Shae's massive arm collided with the wall, but the wall didn't break. Part of Iyl's focus was put into the wall, she was keeping it together even though it should have broken under the stress of a single hit from the creature.

Undaunted by the unbroken wall, the creature started to punch it in rapid succession, earning an irritated grunt from Iyl as she kept the structure up. If she was being honest, she wasn't sure how long she would be able to keep the wall up.

She hoped it would be long enough.

When Lacain's arm draped over her she found that she couldn't stop herself from leaning more into his chest. Several minutes passed with little incident, filled with the soft sounds of her fragmented sobs and fires. When Lacain finally pulled back, Iylma'tria had calmed down just enough to meet his eyes when he spoke. At his explanation the woman bowed her head and and turned her face away from him. Of course it had been Teraem's last wish. It made sense to a certain degree. He was a private man, and likely didn't want what he'd worked on to fall into the wrong hands.

Caught off-guard by Lacain's hug, she barely had time to react to it before he spoke. She balked in confusion, "Wait, I don't understand, where are we--" Her words were cut off as they disappeared from where they had been standing.

When they reappeared her sentence completed, "--going?" The woman looked around for a few moments while Lacain did his work, eyes wide. After she realized where they were, she turned back to look at her friend, to see how he was faring. She couldn't remember a time where transporting two individuals even a few miles from one place to another had been easy for him. Now, now they were hundreds of miles from the university, and Lacain didn't even appear to have broken a sweat.

These woods were a dangerous sort. Filled with what many would call living trees which caused people to become lost as they moved around. In truth, however, it was a race of tree-like beings known as the Shaeriel'm en. They weren't particularly violent, unless one was a mage. They seemed to have a deep seeded hate for the wielders of magic. It was a curious thing indeed.

"Lacain, why are we here?" Iyl finally broke the silence between the two, her odd-colored eyes of blue and gold peering up at him with a curious gleam. The girl's face was tired, and streaked with dried tears. Had anyone else done this, she probably would have been pissed. Because it was Lacain, however, she knew there had to be a reason he brought her along.

There always was.

This will only make sense to @yoshua171 and myself
