Some things are just certain. Like death, taxes, and lying in the Mystery Dungeon personality tests.

Bio

No, I can't believe how little all this means to me.

I'm a long-time Roleplayer looking to do something with my life. My name is Chuuya, Chuu, or Oliver and I'm a 23 year old that lives with relatives outside Tampa. I like 2D fighting games, discovering new music on the daily, and I'm about as much of a weaboo as the next guy. At the moment, I'm currently in the middle of guerilla warfare with the roaches in my bathroom and the dumbest thing I've ever done was fly across the country for work during a national crisis. I like listening to people's problems and I sometimes think about the fanfictions that I'd like to write too. I'm also pretty good at reading people, but other than that, I'm actually pretty boring.

I don't have a preference for Roleplaying though I tend to bore very easily and get distracted by the next shiny plot that comes along. I'm open to about anything though I'm too inexperienced for smut (I have to know my partner for a minimum of a year before I feel comfortable writing it anyway). I've been Roleplaying for a little over a decade now and I'm mostly adjusted to "chat-based" Roleplays (i.e. Discord), but I'm open to new experiences. That's all I can think for now, but ask me anything and I'll be happy to share.

My best friends, @Lyly and @Tiger, also use this website.

I like to consider people who take tropes or inspirations from other mediums or genres are also OG, no bashing on our trope-gang that runs around here but y'all are cool. I think the writing contests bring out the best writers in the guild also.

Absolutely. Tropes or cliches don't automatically disqualify a Roleplay from the premise of "originality". I'm more or less of the mindset that they tend to be less popular because many of them run in the same vein. I feel that it's a lack of variety that tends to be the issue. Or, rather, why they seem to be less popular.

Are their original twists in some of these plots? Of course! The Entertainers was one that I saw while perusing that takes a few cliches and twists them in a way that is entirely unique. They exist, but I've also seen quite a few Roleplays that were literally a cliche or trope and that was the entire premise (admittedly most of these were in Free, but still).
No Kpop.
A indie band called Icon for Hire.
Thanks for asking! :)

Ah, I see! I didn't know that there was a name. I'm rather fond of their self-titled and Scripted albums myself. I would have to say that Hope of Morning and The Grey are my favorites by them. I've already met another fan on here, so you're in a good place!
Disclaimer: I'm speaking as someone who joined recently. Take my perspective with a grain of salt.

I've spent the past (almost) two days perusing the Free, Casual, Advanced, 1x1, and Arena sections. From what I've been able to see, there was a rough balance between original and fandom concepts. For the most part (though I will agree that fandoms did seem a little more common). I also did notice that, in spite of this, quite a few original plots have borrowed similar cliches (ex: plenty of school settings, plenty of gimmicks involving supernatural creatures, plenty of city settings, etc). I don't necessary find that to be bad though as everyone has their own tastes and some genres are just destined to be more popular than others. There were some really, really cool concepts that I also came across while on here. One of them was Blighted Kingdom which I personally have yet to join due to intimidation factors.

I'd like to propose that original ideas aren't as uncommon as they seem, but plenty of them tend to borrow tropes and cliches that shove them under the radar. They appear less attractive because they have ideas used time immemorial or come with massive lore dumps involving the world. I feel most players want to feel like the belong to the world instead of acting as a guest, so it's a major turnoff to throw yourself into a world that's already been pre-established. Especially one that you had no impact in making.

I think they might be seen as less common because they just seem to be less popular, really.

Got fired from my old job and immediately hired by another one within an hour apart.
Witcher, true blood, once upon a time, last kingdom, all have been helping me get through the Lockdown so far. I really wnat the next season of witcher to come round!

Been meaning to watch Witcher. I started watching it over my sister's shoulder back when it first came out and it caught my interest. From what I saw, that series seems to do pretty well with fictional racism and I've been looking to capture that in my own plot for some time now.

Though my supply of things to paint is runnong a little short.

You paint? That's really cool. Do you have any of your projects lying around to show (whether finished or not)?

Sorry to hear about your unemployment, that's rough. Welcome to the site though. Hope something here could keep you distracted for a while.
@Faerrin I have to say that I am a little surprised to see Maid-sama and Corpse Party on the same list, haha. I've seen some Roleplays for those fandoms already too! You should be in good company with your interests from the looks of it.
@Hyde The world is in a crazy spot. Thanks a lot!

No kidding. We just have to do our best to remain sane. If you don't mind me asking, what does your username reference? I assumed KPop. but I'm not actually sure and now I'm a little curious.
Welcome back. Many of us are in the same boat as you, so hopefully you'll find something during this time.
