Name: Hardy Jay

Alias: Buck Thorn

Age: 21

Gender: Male

Height: 6'1"

Weight: 190 lbs.

Personality: Hardy is energetic, outgoing, and optimistic.

Powers/Abilities/Weaknesses Description:

Powers: Hardy can alter the surfaces of objects close to him (including his own skin) to produce multiple hard, thorn-like projections of varying length (about 25 cm max.). On his own body, he can cause rows of tiny projections to improve his grip or footing, or make his skin abrasive and painful to the touch. It has not occurred to him to turn his fists into cestus-like weapons, or use elbow spikes and the like. At short range only (maybe 10 meters or so), he can use this ability to cause objects to cling together (like cockleburs), trip or tangle up another person, or ward or block off a small area.

Abilities: Hardy has a broad general knowledge of machines, plumbing, and carpentry. His physical abilities are in no way "Super," but he's a strapping farm boy who excelled at high school sports. While not a formally-trained fighter, he knows how to scrap.

Weaknesses: Hardy is a very picture of the naïve farm boy trying to make it in the big city. His naivete and gullibility means he gets fooled or misled more than many.

Backstory: Hardy won a trip to LA after winning a talent contest in Kansas. He decided to stay and try to become a movie star. He hasn't had much luck, though, and makes a meager living as a handy-man. He is happy to use his powers to help those that need helping, but his dream is that somehow his powers can lead to a career in the movies.

I'm sorry to hear that I'm curious what you had in mind.

Mr. Midnight, a guy who had darkness-based powers. He's actually an backstory character in a supers game I ran long ago.
Name: Alexandra Vale
Alias: Nyx

Welp, that blew up my character idea :D Back to the ol' drawing board...

Two general questions:

1. How powerful are these strange new talents? I know that typically, Golden Age-style super heroes are not terribly powerful - and I hope that's the case here, since I find it to be more fun and challenging - but it's good to have a general idea of that sort of thing.

2. What's the tone of the game? Is it traditional Golden Age-y? Darker than that? I have an idea for a character, but of course fine-tuning a powerset is often influenced by the game's tone.

I'm going for a very simple, easy-to-understand, two to three paragraphs per post type of system. Very fluid in terms of terms but very much against double posts. Plotwise, this'll be a very casual affair. Seeing as it's about the first-gen of heroes and Villains are going to be NPCs, the overall story will be about these new champions settling into their roles. I may expand this little world in future rps, if this takes off at all.

Sounds great to me! I've noticed that there's not always a ton of interest for historical settings in this place, but I hope there's at least enough interest to get it going.
I am definitely up for period superhero goodness. Would you be using a system, or would it be freeform? More plot-driven, or more sandboxy?

Sorry friend, this died out, and I lost interest in playing.

No worries!
I usually don't look in the Tabletop section, I certainly didn't expect to see RISUS! Any chance you'd still consider running a game?
I noticed the link was busted. I would totally be into some Boot Hill goodness.
@Clever Hans I have never played, or heard of the Flashing Blades RPG. I am however an avid fan if history, having read a multitude of tomes and articles on the subject since I was ten years old. I love historical Roleplays and could be interested in this one. Is this kind of like a Spanish version of the Three Musketeers? I see this has the backdrop of not only King Phillip II's death, but also the 30 years' War mostly fought in the Germanic States with Spain on the side of the Hapsburgs of Austria.

Have you read the Capitan Alatriste books? That and the Three Musketeers are my primary references. Definitely swashbuckling, intrigue, secrets, all that good stuff, but centered in Madrid (but definitely the possibility of travel within and outside of Spain is quite possible). The game starts in 1621, just before the death of Felipe III.
