Buck Bradley - MEC - Farren, John, Ada Buck breathed a sigh of relief. The moment Farren began talking he knew everything was going to be okay. Instinctively he grabbed her hand that held onto his face. He tried to calm her concern by nodding when she asked about him. "Yeah. I'm alright." He let go of her hand and straightened up, trying to compose himself further. "When I heard the gunshot I thought...I thought that maybe..." He couldn't bring himself to finish the thought. Instead he just smiled at her weakly. "I'm just glad you are both okay." "BUCK!!" The call caused Buck to jerk to his feet, grabbing up the sledge hammer again. "That was John," he said, stating the obvious. He turned back to Farren. "I should go check on him. He went off on his own." He paused, making sure Farren had a good grasp on the situation. "You can stay here if you want. Keep Dean safe. Or if you want you can come with me. I can make sure you stay safe." He moved quickly in the direction of John's call. As he approached the unmistakable growls of walkers grew louder. It didn't take long to find John. He was there, with a girl Buck had never seen before, trying to hold closed a door against a pile of the monsters. Noticing the girl was armed, Buck deduced that the shot he had heard had had something to do with her. For the moment she and John appeared to be working together, however. It didn't take him long to make a decision. He rushed forward and threw his considerable bulk against the door, trying to push back against the tide on the other side. "Arrrgh!!" he growled with the effort. "I make a much better doorstop than either of you. You wanna find something to close this door more permanent?"
Buck Bradley - MEC - Farren Buck froze. The sound of the gunshot echoed through the halls of the medical center. Farren. Dean. The names raced through his mind in a sudden panic. If something had happened to them while he wasn't at their side... He saw John racing past in the distance, heading towards the sound of the shot. Say what you wanted to about the guy, Buck thought, he had guts. Buck considered joining him for only the briefest of moments. Whatever trouble was out there, two of them would stand a better chance against it than one. But Buck's responsibility now lay with the young mother and her child. They were his greatest concern. Greater than his own safety. As quickly as he could he took off to where he knew they should be. He had heard John ask Farren to take the old man to his room - had witnessed her oblige. He was almost certain the gunshot hadn't come from that floor, but he wasn't willing to bet his or their lives on it. When he reached her room he froze. There was Farren. Slumped against the door with her eyes closed. "No..." he whispered to himself, panic rushing through him. "No, NO, NOOOO!!!" he screamed as he raced to her side. He dropped his newly acquired sledge hammer and knelt by her side. He looked around for any sign of injury. There didn't seem to be any. "Please," he pleaded quietly. "Please be alright." He reached out his large hand to stroke her hair.
Buck Bradley - MEC - Farren/John Buck was not a happy camper. No, that was an understatement. In his current state he could be likened to an overdue volcano on the verge of erupting molten rage. He literally vibrated as John spoke to him. When the man put a hand on his shoulder it took everything within him not to snap his arm like a twig. Even a few hours ago he would have. But now he had others to think of. Farren and the boy. He tried to make eye contact with Farren. He hoped that she could see what was happening here. He wanted to impress her with his self-control. But with his eyes he also tried to convey the raw anger that was boiling inside him at that moment. It took all he had not to smash the guy like he deserved. Now would be as good an opportunity as any. He had sent Victoria away. The old man was asleep. What's stopping you? he asked himself. Farren. That was what. Taking a few deep breaths he responded briefly through clenched teeth. "Five minutes, huh? Guess I'd better get ready." He ignored all the other garbage about respect, disrespect and the threats of not stepping foot back inside the hospital. Did this guy really think he could keep Buck away from Farren if he needed to get to her? What a bunch of hot air. Still, he decided to play nice. For now. He walked away without any other words. He had passed something on the way from the living quarters this morning that interested him. In a few moments he found it. It looked like a crew had been doing some demolition work on one of the walls before the outbreak occurred. A small section in the hallway was still roped off. But the crew had left behind a lot of their tools. One interested Buck in particular. He stepped over the rope and picked up a fibreglass handled sledge hammer. The handle was bright orange and the head had to be about 7 or 8 pounds. He planted his feet firmly and channeled all the rage he felt right now into one mighty swing. A good chunk of the wall that was still standing exploded into splinters on the impact. He exhaled with satisfaction. "Yeah, this should do nicely." He propped the hammer over his shoulder and made his way back to meet up with John and Victoria.
I was informed Panda is still in the hospital and unfortunately broke her wrist. She will not be able to post for a while. She told me to take over her character so I'm going to figure out a way to use her the least possible. I don't like controlling another's character, but I fear the rp will die if I dont. I'll think of something, so bare with me please.
No problem - I will wait and post until after you figure out what to do.
Buck Bradley - MEC - Farren/Dean/Robert/John/Victoria Buck blushed. Fortunately for him his beard did a good job of hiding his embarrassment. The "hip bump" from Farren, no matter how small of a gesture, caused him to go sheepish. "Darlin'," he teased back, "you never got to see that shed remember? Aw, heck, maybe the company is better here." He wished he could think of more clever things to say. He had to admit, the desire to put a smile on Farren's face just kept increasing the more time he spent with her. John's order to accompany Victoria was met with a grin full of gritted teeth. He didn't know if the man was trying to get under his skin or not with such a direct order, but Buck was willing to play nice. For now. He hoped a cooperative attitude would surprise John and maybe help smooth things over from last night, even if it wasn't a formal apology. "Whatever you say, Bossman," he said in as cheerful a tone as he could manage. "Don't let it be said that we're not willing to pull our weight." He looked at Victoria, "After seeing her in action last night I'm sure Red here can protect me out there on the mean streets." He grinned at the girl widely. Buck listened to Farren's concerns about him not eating. Despite wanting to play the tough guy, he had to admit he was starving. "Would be nice to grab a bite to eat before heading out." He listened to John's description of their routines and meal plans. Sounded like they had a pretty good system going here. He took a seat when the group sat at the table. John laid out his series of questions and Buck listened as Farren gave her answers. When she finished and looked at him he continued to cooperate. "Well, originally I'm from up north. Maine, originally, close to the Canadian border. My job is actually what brought me down to these parts. I am - was - a pro--wrestler. We were scheduled to do a show down here just before the outbreak." He paused trying to remember what else John had asked. "Medical? Fit as a fiddle besides losing weight from starving most of the time. Been on my own out here for quite a while now. No radio, no other way to get news. Was with some people for a while, they had some military guys with them who were trying to set up a secure location, maybe turn the tide." He paused, remembering. "It didn't end well." That was all he would say about that for now. No use bringing up painful memories. "Since then the only people I've run into weren't the sort to give news. Not the sort I'd want to run with either." He looked at Farren and smiled. "'Till last night, anyways."
Present!
**Buck Bradley - MEC - Farren/Dean/Robert/John/Victoria** Buck stood silently for a few minutes. He observed the interactions between Farren, Dean and Robert. He listened with heartbreak to Robert's story, finally mumbling, "Sorry for your loss." He truly was. Losing people never got any easier. He did his best to evade Robert's inquiry about how long they'd been out there and where he was from. He wasn't ready yet to talk about what had happened before he met Farren. Instead he tried to make light of the situation by joking, "Well I just ran across these two yesterday. Till then I was holed up in the nicest shed you've ever seen. Just mindin' my own business." Buck was eager to ask more questions of his own. Robert seemed like he might be willing to share some important details. He held his tongue, though, as John and Victoria arrived on the scene. Buck managed to greet John with a curt nod. That was as friendly as he would start this morning. Let's hear what the big shot had to say in the light of day. Victoria was another matter, however. Buck was no expert in psychology, but it was obvious that she and John were close. If he could win her over maybe he could improve the odds for he, Farren and Dean. "Well good mornin' Red," he said with a wide smile, ignoring her command to not call her that from last night. "I think we got off on the wrong foot last night." He turned his head to Farren and winked discreetly. "I'm not really what you'd call a people person, see? Just ask Farren here, she can vouch for that. But I can tell that I really upset you and I want to make that right." He stuck out his hand. "What do ya say? Can we start over?"
**Buck Bradley - MEC - Farren/Dean and Robert** Buck smiled. For some reason it made him feel really good, very confident and assured when Farren told him he didn't need to apologize. He blushed when she called him a giant teddy bear. "Hey, keep it down with that kind of talk. I've got a reputation to uphold!" Off to the side Dean was still demolishing the yogurt. "Guess the little guy was hungry," he observed. Buck gave the boy a thumbs up when he made eye contact between gulps. He straightened up when the stranger approached, but seeing as how it was a relatively harmless looking old man, his tension quickly eased. He shook Robert's hand. "Pleased to meet you, Old Timer. My name's Buck. This here's Farren and her boy Dean." He stiffened a little bit again when Robert mentioned John. He wasn't quite over the first impression that guy had made yet. "Yeah, Johnny let us in last night. Appreciate you folks lettin' us in. It was sketchy out there for sure." He folded his arms and leaned back against the wall. "You folks been here a while, huh? Since the beginning?"
**Buck Bradley - MEC - Farren/Dean ** Buck snorted. He had fallen asleep again! This was becoming a bad habit. A dangerous habit. He turned his head to the source of the loud “GOOD MORNING!” that had just been shouted in his ear. Dean stood there proud as could be, his mother close behind. Buck smiled. “Well good morning to you too, Champ,” he said as he rose. He stretched and ruffled the boy’s hair. “Did you and your mom have a good sleep?” He looked at Farren. “Well you clean up real nice, don’t you?” He noticed the food tray and open door across the hall. “Looks like someone was checking on us in the night.” He looked at Farren again. “Sorry if I made things uncomfortable for the two of you last night. I’ve learned you’ve got to be careful who you let yourself get close to. I’m just tryin’ to look out for you and the boy.” He sighed. “Didn’t get a chance last night, but I think I should apologize to our hosts. Reckon I should do that this mornin’. I don’t want to mess anything up for you guys.” He gestured towards the food on the tray. “You two take what you want. I’m sure I can find something else.” The three of them still hadn’t seen anybody. Buck looked up and down the halls. “What do you say? Want to come and help me find ‘em?”
Still here folks. Hoping I can get a post up within 24 hours.
