It is the 187th year of the Standard Era. Earth and its colonies are in a state of reconstruction, having lost much in the wars against the Divine Crusaders paramilitary force and in the L5 Campaign that defended humanity from the aliens known as the Aerogaters. In the aftermath of the suffering of only six months prior, the once-independent United Colonies were folded into the Federal Government, with its former leader, Brian Midcrid, elected as the new President.
As the individual who once revealed to the world the existence of extraterrestrials that threatened mankind, a disclosure that would later be known as the "Tokyo Manifest", President Midcrid has taken steps to rebuild and rearm the Federation, beginning the "Aegis Project", a plan to refortify Earth by developing and mass-producing humanoid mechs to defend against attack. Asking for solidarity among all humanity, his dream is a world that shall be united in the face of any invasion.
However, trouble lurks in the shadows.
The remnants of the Divine Crusaders still seek to overthrow the Federal Government, and with the help of sympathetic individuals within the administration and military, scheme to establish a new military state in the ashes of the old regime. Mysterious machines with incredible technology have been seen all over planet Earth, their appearance unidentified and purpose unknown. Entities befitting those in storybooks roam in the darkness, possibly hoping to plunge humankind into chaos once more.
It is a new, unbelievable world.
For that reason, certain individuals within the Federation pushed for a specialised task force to investigate these anomalies, hoping to discover the truth of the strange incidents and resolve them before they can threaten the Earth.
This was the birth of the team known as UTX, a squad within the Federation military equipped with experimental tools and weapons for their Personal Trooper mechs, with a mandate to investigate and deal with any dangerous technology they find.
Unofficially, however, their true purpose is far more than that.
To protect humanity, UTX will delve into the darkness to shine light on all that is unknown. What is this game?
Record of UTX is an RPG set in the universe of Super Robot Wars OG, beginning in a period of anxiety and confusion in the six months after the strife of an alien invasion, one that was successfully halted by a ragtag group within the Federation. In the rebuilding that followed, a proposal was made to form a team of special investigators who would deal with any strange happenings and clean up unwanted nuisances that could threaten the uneasy peace that humankind had found themselves in. Thus, the UTX Team came into being, equipped with all the necessary technology and deployed all across the world to ferret out mysteries, and if truly needed, eradicate them.
Here, you play as an investigator the UTX Team, possibly as a pilot of a mech or something else. Fighting may not be something you'll do all the time, with the focus being on finding the answers to "what is this strange thing" and "how dangerous is it to the planet" rather than getting into tussles with everything that comes your way. However, there's a reason why the UTX Team has pilots, and that's because there will be threats that need the big guns to handle, especially if they're of the more quirky variety.
Despite being part of SRWOG, it isn't necessary for players to be familiar with the plot. The premise is investigating the weird that is present in a mecha universe, which is why your characters have been given weird stuff. Because it's how you'll look for and fight the truly weird.
What are the mechs?
In the world of Super Robot Wars OG, there exist several different types of mech, which are generally classified into one of three groups. These are the
Personal Troopers (such as Mao Industries' Gespenst or Huckebein lines), which are mostly land-bound humanoid machines that tend towards all-purpose, modular use;
Armoured Modules (such as the Lion series formerly used by the Divine Crusaders and now by the Federation), which are advanced manned mechanized weapons platforms similar to existing vehicles and focus on superior manoeuvrability at the cost of armour; and finally the
Super Robots (epitomised by Tesla-Leicht's specialised Grungust), which are few in number or unique, focusing on firepower and durability.
In this era, the Federation has begun to phase out the
Gespenst Mk-II M, once the mainstay Personal Trooper of its military in favour of deploying the flight-capable
Huckebein Mk-II M alongside cheaper Armoured Module
Lion variants, leading to situations where squad compositions are more or less eclectic collections of mechs, with some soldiers having yet to upgrade from their old machines. Coupled with the leniency towards individual pilots making personal modifications, uniformity isn't always present across the Federation military.
And in some rare cases, a Super Robot can be found as part of a team, as its limited production or uniqueness prevents mass adoption by the entirety of the military.
The UTX Team strikes a balance in that regard. While equipped with more esoteric machines to deal with the strange happenstances that fall under their mandate, they are essentially only one squad, and the Federation's resources are focused on rebuilding and restructuring the military over handing UTX a blank check to do whatever they want.
