Name: Natalie "Deathwish" Stevenson
Gender: Female.
Age: Seventeen.
Nationality/Country of origin: United States of America.
Ethnicity/Appearance:Wild Card Status: Suicide King (She cheerfully tends to refer to herself as a Suicide Queen, however).
Nickname: Deathwish.
Abilities/Deformities: Although she
technically doesn't have any real forms of metahuman capabilities thus far, she does have one very significant advantage which can rather easily get her out of almost any bad situations: practically everyone in Jokertown is extremely protective of her. Given her very high likelihood of dying should she be exposed to any form of mental duress, and the fact that she was born, raised and educated amongst the very tightly knit New York joker community, she is afforded an unique sort of protected status with them. She can show up at practically any of their houses at any time of the day, and be almost guaranteed to be welcome. She has known most of the long-term residents since her early childhood and, despite not technically being a joker herself, is almost universally considered to be part of their community. There is a long standing list of unspoken rules and accords amongst the "freaks" of Jokertown, but one of the most simple and most important one is as follows: No one is allowed to mess with Natalie Stevenson.
No one. As the handful of Nat tourists which once decided it was a good idea harass her soon learned, broken bones and a serious beating are the least one should expect from breaking that decree.
Weaknesses: She is, quite obviously, a Suicide King. As a result, despite her legendary cool head, it is highly likely that she will eventually trigger her wild card gene in the future, turning into a Black Queen and perishing horribly. Also, physically speaking, she is, for all intents and purposes, a Nat, and is thusly vulnerable to most forms of physical and psychological harm. She is a tough cookie, but everyone knows that, sooner or later, she will probably die.
Public presence: Doesn't really have any abilities, and most likely never will, so doesn't really have a reason for a secret identity. She is very well known within the confines of Jokertown, and even slightly recognised outside of it, from time to time. When she was 14, there was a news paper article published about her, referring to her as the "Saint of Jokertown" (to which she promptly responded by snorting and egging a passing car).
Personality: Snarky, obstinate, fearless and mule headed, Natalie seems to have made it her life's sole purpose to give her father as many heart attacks as humanly possible. Carefree and epicurean by nature, she strives to live her life to the fullest, regardless of how short it might be, voraciously leaping from one dangerous scenario to another. Considered to be bit of a daredevil due to her actions, she was frequently referred to as "deathwish girl" by the Jokertown residents throughout her childhood, nickname which eventually found itself being shortened to her present one, "Deathwish". Although slightly crude and loud mouthed at times, she is a very kind hearted, loving and compassionate young woman, and is known as the metaphorical "heart" of the New York joker community. Constantly craving new thrills and experiences, she is widely recognised for her colloquial "brass balls" and "nerves of steel", and rarely, if ever, shows any signs of having any forms of negative emotions. Like many local Jokertown residents, she harbors a distinct dislike towards Nats and Aces, and is very distrustful of governmental authorities in general. Very loyal and dedicated towards her friends and family, she often comes across as a very selfless young lady, despite her best efforts to hide it with her snarky comments and mischievous attitude. She has a notoriously morbid and uncensored sense of humour, and loves using her Suicide King status to get away with things she never would be able to otherwise, although you'd never hear her admit it. She is very interested in civil rights and Wild Card equality, though she has no illusions of ever becoming a lawyer or politician, given her life's precarious nature.
History: [WIP][Might be left blank and simply revealed during the RP.]
Relationships: She has very strong ties to most people in the New York joker community, and has a wide circle of friends and acquaintances within it. Her only real living relative is her joker father, her mother having died shortly after she turned four.
Base of operations: She lives in a small apartment with her father in Jokertown.
Why do you want to play this character?: Given the fact that many people will probably end up playing the lucky minority which ends up surviving the Wild Card virus or, better yet, weren't affected by it, I figured I would play something a little different and give the perspective of a character who is much more aware of their own mortality. I figured it might make for a much more grounded, interesting and humane experience to have this sort of character in the roleplay. Simultaneously, I wanted to avoid the cliché of the poor, defenceless wittle wictim damsel in distress by portraying a strong, capable character, living their life to the fullest despite their own limitations. I've had many friends who suffered from various medical conditions, and wanted to reflect their attitude towards life by making Natalie more than just a helpless victim incapable of fending for herself, while admitting the limitations inherent to her situation. I won't lie, I'm not giving her a Suicide King status as a cheap fake out, only to give her a plot-convenient ace or joker status somewhere down the line. If it comes to it and she ends up in a situation where her Wild Card gene manifests, I'm rolling a die. 9 chances out of 10, she dies. Not just for pointless drama or "tragic woobie syndrome", but because that's what would happen.
