Appearance:Dex stands at a tall 6’6, a smile not far from stretching her mandibles. Her face is a rather light grey, while her carapace is a dark grey. She proudly has dark green triple spirals tattooed along her mandibles that end just under her eyes. She has light honey brown eyes, inherited from her father. Her build in muscle is seen mostly within her shoulders and back. Keeping her organic-arm strong to match her prosthetic. Scars can also be seen stretching out from underneath the steel. Her mechanical arm has been apart of her for 20 years, her current model is about 2 years old with obvious wear and tear scuff marks show for its age. To match her facial tattoos she has had dark green spirals stenciled from shoulder to wrist. The tendons, as thick wires, can be seen beneath the smooth plating at her joints. Dex has sustained some small facial scarring as well, long lines of tissue stretching from her mandibles down her neck on the right side of her head.
Background: Dexuret was the first born of four children. As a child she had a deep interest in theatre art. She dreamt one day after she finished her military duty to join an acting troupe on Palaven. Her parents, Talera Noratus and Hazill Noratus, however had their hopes to push her into a political path. They openly supported separation from the Hierarchy. They constantly pushed for independence within the realm of law. They filled Dex’s head with idealistic views of separatism.
At 15 years she was shipped off to the military, typical for Turians. Her outgoing personality won her fast friends while in boot camp. Theatre was still one of her main interests but after stepping on board a cruiser orbiting the planet; she fell in love with piloting. As Dex found herself focused on her career to be a pilot she idolized Captain Vibitina Indmus, a female turian captain that encouraged her studies. Captain Indmus noticing Dex's eye for detail immediately.
At 19, 2158 CE a year after the Relay 314 Incident she joined Captain Indmus’s crew on the
ISS Fade slowly earning her way to the cockpit. Dex soaked up every aspect of serving on the
ISS Fade, from navigation to communications she loved it. She spent years training to be a pilot, at 24 her future seemed bright. While she had returned to serve on the
ISS Fade, Captain Indmus was forced to guide the ship out of FTL to avoid some space debris. It was a trap that lured them into a pirate’s net. The pirates boarded the ship maiming every crew member in their way. Dex was caught off guard to the attack then took a shotgun shot at point blank range to her shoulder. Struggling to reach a terminal she sent out a distress signal in hopes she’d at least live to see another day. Passing out she woke to Taetrus extremists,
Facinus operatives patching her up attaching a prosthetic arm to her shoulder. The extremists were the closest available and dispatched the pirates.
Dex had recognized some of the extremists, they were neighbours and key members of the community. At the time she didn't view them as extremists, emboldened to do what they thought was right. A point Dex is bitterly ashamed of, after the fact.
The medic patching her up was named Jorick Demanga. He was an ex-military medic. While he was an accomplished medic he continued his studies, with hopes to specialize in prosthetic engineering. Jorick promised Dex he’d see her through her painful year of rehabilitation. He had kind green eyes and gentle hands.
Feeling indebted to
Facinus she offered to do anything to repay them. At first they only asked for her to pass on some information regarding another Captain. It simply snowballed from there, the more Dex provided the more they needed. She became exceptionally good at spying. She learned how to bypass wall safes, plant evidence, sabotage mechs, etc. Most importantly she learned how to cover her tracks. She felt she was contributing to a noble cause.
Her main contact from the extremists was Jorick. They used her arm maintenance as cover for when she had information to pass on. Despite the circumstances Jorick and Dex had become close friends. He used experimental techniques with Dex as his skills improved with prosthetic engineering. His experimenting resulted in some interesting iterations of her arm.
5 years passed while Dex continued to work within the Hierarchy. The government officials stationed on Taetrus were aware of a moles but hadn’t a single clue who it could be. They investigated any personnel who had connections to
Facinus. Fortunately for Dex, after heavy scrutiny, her story checked out.
Their only lead was an extremist leader they blackmailed into their interrogation chair. His name was Arian Medus. After heavy negotiations between Medus and
Facinus the government offered him a full pardon with a cushiony life on Palaven in exchange for the information he had on the extremist operations. Medus provided the Hierarchy a list of spies. Dex being one of the names. The Hierarchy hauled her in.
Facinus expected the spies to sacrifice themselves for the cause, and the Hierarchy expected her to accept punishment for her crimes.
Facinus should have expected after spending years drumming rebellion into their operatives, Dex did exactly that. Rebelled. Angry, hurt and defiant Dex stood trial. While all evidence pointed to her guilt, the trial publicly dragged her name and family’s name through the mud, using colleagues in both the military and
Facinus to humiliate her.
Demanga, desperate to save his friend, he tried paying off an information broker that
Facinus had used a few times before. The broker’s name was Galentos Lorthan, rising in influence on Palaven, garnering his clientele from separatists across handfuls of colonies. Lorthan accepted the job, but refused credits. Much to Demanga’s confusion, Lorthan instead wanted Dex to work for him. Demanga agreed to his terms on her behalf knowing she would prefer freedom to imprisonment.
Within days the trial was misconducted, jury members dropped then were replaced with sympathetic bias, evidence was tampered with and finally after the trial was ruined, the ruling was exile and dishonourable discharge. As soon as she stepped out Lorthan introduced himself. He was a rather handsome turian, his light yellow eyes were striking against his dark blue-grey face and deep grey carapace. Again without any real options for her to choose from she decided to work for Lorthan Brokerage, pay off her debt to him. She reluctantly agreed on the condition, in her off time, she was free to ruin Medus. They shook hands, sealing the deal.
The next 6 years Dex continued spying. She served on ships from civilian vessels to military. Sold out cheating spouses, dusted cobwebs from skeletons, watched from binoculars and sniper scopes, broke through digital security with precision. She became a technical expert, able to find her targets and expose their dirty secrets. As Lorthan's influence spread from Palaven to the Terminus Systems the workload and pay increased. She hopped from safehouse to safehouse depending where the job took her. Lorthan grew fond and close to Dex over the years. He was eager to keep her happy despite having paid off her debt ten times over. While for Dex, he made it difficult to distinguish the lines of boss and lover.
Every chance she got she gunned after Medus' life. Strips of his life were torn down from every side, he didn't have single shred of evidence to save him from the onslaught. Dex took immense satisfaction from extended revenge. Unhealthy as it was. She was ruthless in tearing apart his family life, his business, and his reputation. After years of work she rendered Medus to his knees. He was on the street with millions of credits in debt. Without any support to see a roof over his head he became desperate. Hours before Dex intended to reveal herself, Medus shot himself. She found his corpse in the shadows of an alley on Palaven. Dex had seen her fair share of death and violence, it didn’t shock her to see the aftermath of an apparent suicide - it only enraged her.
Years of pent up rage poured out of her in that moment. She screeched in rage, since the day she was betrayed she dreamed of when she could sneer at the broken man. Dex washed her hands of the work, immediately contacting Lorthan to quit. She had enough of the espionage, the life of a spy no longer appealed to her. Lorthan didn’t argue nor did he object.
In her aimless wandering, jobless and with no direction she on chance joined a new mercenary crew on an aging ship dubbed
Borealis, in 2176 CE. There she spent 3 years bonding with The Jury Riggers, a crew scraping by through every job they got their hands on. Misfits, criminals, and professionals of various backgrounds. Dex loved her time spent with the Riggers. Happily living a life she choose for herself, piloting the affectionately dubbed Jalopey. Things were going well until her past came creeping up on her. Lorthan went missing after failing to infiltrate Citadel Council, shortly before he went missing he had one last bitter transmission from Dex, the distance did not make the heart grow fonder. Dex thought nothing of it until a Specter, Cerah T'sonis came knocking on their ship's door. T'sonis insisted on pulling her from the mercenary crew, threatening to pin her with blame of Lorthan's failure forcing her into helping hunt down the information broker.
A sad farewell to her friends, leaving the ship in her co-pilot's hands. With a promise to return as soon as she could. Unfortunately, the investigation took years. While it was rough at first adjusting to joining T'sonis' crew, she eventually fit in. Providing valuable information, hunting down leads, working with the untold limitless resources backed in a specter's jurisdiction. When they eventually found Lorthan he was kept prisoner by a very much alive Medus. In a decisive fight Lorthan was killed, Medus separated Dex from her teammates. She fought for her life, coming out on top finally able to put a bullet in Medus' head personally, in his final moments he spoke of a terrorist plot on Taetrus, it's target was Vallum. The colony's capital city. They rushed to inform the Hierarchy but by then it was too late. The
Facinus crashed a starship at near FTL speeds into the heart of Vallum, killing thousands. The War on Taetrus had begun. Dex watched with horror as her home was mangled into something indistinguishable.
The investigation for Lorthan came to a close, Dex was exonerated. T'sonis had offered instead, a full time position on her team. She declined, having hoped she could rejoin the Jury Riggers, only to find they had dissolved. Some of them mentioned problems paying for food and fuel, it had been long in between her last check ins. A crew she once thought as family now scattered to the wind. It left Dex in a precarious position, Taetrus was tearing itself apart and her chosen family was no more. While she enjoyed her time spent with T'sonis' crew, it wasn't the same. Instead T'sonis offered rumours of a voyage into a new galaxy. The Andromeda Initiative. She offered to act as reference, knowing her past would have her bid thrown away. Dex jumped at the chance, hoping her family to join her. They steadfastly refused, standing by the colony in its hour of need. Dex washed her hands again, this time with a heavy heart.
And so, she joined the Nexus. Brought aboard for her expertise in cybersecurity, piloting, and military background with the reference T'sonis to back her bid. She was set to join the tech teams to help build and establish airtight Nexus security. When she awoke 600 years into the future, the Nexus was in disarray, given no time to process she was pushed into cleaning up the mess left behind the insurgence of a mutiny. Sleepless nights patching together some security, removing exile's access, a skeleton crew compared to what they were operating before. Dex's first few weeks in Heleus were spent squinting at a screen. It took her no time to be caught up on all the gossip. Dex felt for the exile's plight, but ultimately had a job to do. She entertained no feelings of getting between the two opposing groups. A lesson hard learned. The Initiative was a far cry from the Hierarchy. This was a new galaxy, with new problems.
It was a slog of day to day rations, when the
Hyperion docked at the station carrying the hope of the initiative with a Pathfinder. The Pathfinder Ryder went straight to work establishing a military outpost on Eos, Prodromos. Miraculously Eos’ radiation levels dropped. With new resources and ground to stand on, APEX strike teams grew from the Initiative's militia, tapping military backgrounds and specialists to fill out the teams. Dex joined an APEX team, a former spy and mercenary pilot itching to make something of her new home.
Personality:Dex is a highly skilled spy, with a free spirited disposition. A notorious lover with no intentions for commitment. She openly maintains dislike of government officials, fosters some rebellious leanings. In spite of her earlier life hardships, she holds no discernable bitterness on the surface. Years spent with the Riggers buffed that bitterness out, along with closing the door on her past life leaving it behind in the Milky Way where it belonged. She values her privacy highly but acts the part of hypocrite by having no problems poking through other's private lives. It frustrates her how careless some are with their personal security.
A point where she feels respect is earned with trust, the past shapes the present then the future. She is not shy to confront others on what she finds questionable. Feels that others should earn her trust, not concerned with others trusting her as she assumes that her skills, intel, and results speak for themselves. She understands there's no absolute trust in a spy, but just as capable of keeping a secret. Ultimately she plays a part and plays it well, she tries her best to fit in.
Reason for being awoken from Cryo (Specific jobs, skills, and Initiative Application):Dexuret was meant to join cybersecurity team to build the Nexus Network, however was only awoken after the Uprising to fix it. She spent her first weeks out of cryo rooting out exiles and severing their lingering attachments to the Nexus, bolstering the security within the network with little resources. Her history and background in intel gathering and hacking made her a valuable asset. She joined the APEX team with her familiarity clashing with the exiles able to effectively push back against their distinct cyber warfare.
