Grayson's Astral form searched fervently through the bunker, however the smoke and fire made it impossible to locate anyone. He encountered Jake a couple of times, however he found no one else aside from that.
After searching for as long as possible, Grayson returned to his body to find himself alone in the darkness. The two strangers he had been with had vanished without any apparent cause.
The night air was cool against his skin, and he sat up quickly, looking around for any signs of life. Distant screams and sounds of fighting still echoed through the night, however it was indistinct and indiscernable.
The man stood up, peering around at the unfamiliar trees. The sound of rushing water came faintly on the wind, giving Grayson the direction he needed.
Water is usually where Harley is. Grayson took off at a jog, ignoring how winded he was as he searched for Harley. After a couple of minutes, he came to a cliff that dropped away into darkness.
Water was no longer heard aside from the faint lapping of waves against the shore a good distance beneath him.
Scared to reveal his location, but also scared to be alone, Grayson hissed into the night.
"Harley!" Harley had her head resting against the tree when she thought she heard her name softly in the trees from across the other side of the dropoff. She couldn't be sure who it was but she thought...no, it couldn't be.
"Grayson?" She yelled back a little louder.
"I'm on the other side of the cliff. I'll come to you. Don't move!"Harley was even more confused. She had really liked Grayson the last entire year and now when things were finally starting to happen there....Mikey shows up from the past that never was. Truth be told she never had anything with Mikey but flirtation before all of this happened. She rose up on the water and crossed over to Grayson's side. Once there she still didn't see him.
"Gray? Is that you?"Grayson's face broke into a broad smile as he heard Harley's voice just a few feet away. He ran along the edge of the cliff, giving a small, childish giggle when Harley came into view.
"Harley!"He wrapped his arms around and considered swinging her around, but he was a little nervous that might earn him a small faceful of water. Instead, he settled for a long embrace.
"Are you okay?" He whispered in her ear before pulling back to look her in the eyes.
"What the hell happened to you? To everyone? I woke up and there was fire and everyone was fighting..." Harley didn't expect tears but as she embraced him she felt them sliding down her cheeks. She wiped them away when he said fire.
"I'm okay, I mean...I was captured and tied up so I couldn't use my powers but I am alright. Are you okay? Was anyone hurt? Is the fire out?"She seemed to be more jittery than most would be. She guessed it was because they were in the weirdest situation to date. She refused to let go of him. He always made her feel safe and cared for.
"We should go back to the bunker and help if we can don't you think?"Grayson nodded and gave her another quick hug.
"Yeah, we should head back. I'm fine, but I know a lot of other people aren't. The fire is still raging pretty hard, however we got everybody out." The statement that he was fine brought Gray back to reality, suddenly remembering the gash in his leg. The thrill of finding Harley had numbed the pain, however it was slowly creeping back in.
"We should probably hurry. There was still a lot of fighting when I left. " Harley wrapped her arms around him and lifted the pair up into the air. They rode on the waves back to the bunker where Harley set Grayson down in a safe place before bringing in the paper to extinguish the fire. She then hit some of the attackers with high powered water, blowing them off of their feet and down the muddy hill. When she was finished with that she walked over to Gray and hugged him to her.
"Thank you for coming for me. I really missed you." She kissed his cheek and then she noticed his leg.
"I thought you said you were alright?" She bent down to look at it and it was a gash. Not so bad as to be life threatening but not something you wanted to get infected either. Harley looked at the bunker and wondered how stable it was and if there was anything worth saving inside.
Grayson shrugged off Harley's concern.
"It's fine, we have more important things to worry about."He followed her gaze to the bunker, looking at the smoke pouring out of the entrance.
"We should keep moving. There may be more injured people around here."
