Lusius Mathand
Age: 26
Personality:
Lusius often carries himself with a calm air, always maintaining his formal and elaborate appearance with his strong, but beautifully crafted clothes. All the while trying to hold onto a calm and kind air. He's not a fool though and knows that around every corner can be an enemy, especially in his case. Still with that in mind he's not likely to be the friendly and chatty man of town as he tends to stick to himself, keeping isolated and looking longingly at the boisterous and fun loving crowds. He's not stranger to fun, just isn't exactly going to be the one to start up the conversation.
History:
Lusius' adventures started when he was a very, very young lad of just 6 years of age. He enjoyed a quiet and happy life in the quaint and romantic village of Elder's Grove. While his hometown didn't boast anything fancy or particularly extravagant he couldn't have a want for things being any different. After all there was ample food from the local fields and the babbling brook that flowed through town and kept the mill running gave clean water and fresh fish. Due to the town being positioned and nestled in the loving bosom of a valley, the weather was almost always beautiful, save the occasional shower of course. Life was good and great to live, however life also has a way to twisting it's gifts...
When Lusius was 6 and playing in the nearby farm fields just outside of town the village was struck by a burning monster that flew through the fields and ravaged not only the crops, setting the fields that Lusius was in ablaze, but also taking to the village. Scorching fires roared up around, burning the villagers alive as they tried to flee the bloodthirsty creature. It's rage and bloodlust seemingly unsateable.
Lusius was terrified and cowered in the raging inferno that was the field. Before long the torrential flames lashed and licked at him, forcing him to flee through burning stalks of corn and around flaming wreck that were once plows, carts, and wagons. Before long he was forced back into town to see the carnage laid out before his young eyes. Charred corpses lay strung about, hanging from burning sinew and blackened bone. Homes were cast into infernos, throwing out enough fire to spread like was alive and wild. Yet still he had nowhere to go. His path was narrowed to only one way to go and that was forward.
Crying and panicking the entire way through what was once a peaceful and calm village, seeing familiar faces melt before his young eyes. He was in Hell.
Things were to be worse though. As he ventured through town the beast was growing closer and closer to him until they finally met in the village church. Lusius had dove inside the stone building for shelter as it was the only thing not set ablaze and the monster was drawn smelling the fear and suffering of the small child. Bursting through the roof it cast rumble and stone down on the boy, making him fall to his knees and cower in fear for his young life. Looking up to stare into the glowing red eyes of the burning demon. It was shaped like a man, standing on two legs with two arms as well. However from it's burning body of obsidian and fire it grew a tail that whipped wickedly around like a cat teasing it's prey. From it's back sprout two great wings that stretched upward making the devil look even bigger and more horrifying. Both it's feet and hands had long, sharp claws that glowed a bright red, showing that they too were hot as the fires of Hell itself.
As the beast stared down at the boy, it only smiled it's wicked smile. Sharp teeth glinting in the dancing flames. It was going to enjoy slaughtering the boy, hearing his screams echo around the stone walls as the young child was burned alive.
As the beast raised it's wicked hand to strike him down a miracle happened. Lusius' father charged in wielding the fallen cross from the church. Striking the beast with the golden crucifix solidly in the back to make it recoil and hiss shrilly before turning to face the foolish man. Despite his heroics Lusius father didn't last long enough for a second swing. The devil swung back and grabbed his neck, burning his flesh and gripping his forehead with his other hand. Before long all Lusius could hear was sizzling and his father's screams.
Lusius was at a loss, he couldn't do anything, not even move while his own father was murdered in front of him. Though without warning, something washed over him. A fire inside him that ignited like nothing he'd ever felt before and in a rush he lunged forward, grabbing the broken golden cross and hefting it high. Using the pointed end of the long base he plunged it into the demon's back letting the holy symbol sink in deep.
The monster roared, shooting fire from it's mouth and eyes as he left go of Lusius' dead father, turning to glare and reach out to execute the insolent child. As he picked him up Lusius could feel the hot, clawed hands of the demon cut into and melt his flesh, sending agony through his body before the monster rushed forward, melting away and washing over Lusius, engulfing him in fire.
The next day Lusius awoke, naked and lying alone in the ruins of the church. All around him cinders and ash settled and spread about. Looking around scared he realized that he was unharmed, but he was the only one. His father was unrecognizable from the flames and once he left the church there was nothing left. His entire home was razed to the ground.
As Lusius roamed around naked and afraid, wishing things could just go back to the way they were, he was found by a team of Hunters who had just so happened been dispatched to hunt a witch nearby. Taking pity on the young lad they took him with, clothing him and taking him back to treat and train him as one of their own.
However, he was no longer the Lusius he was before the attack. His heart turned to ice and his body turned to fire. The demon wasn't dead... He was the demon now. Yet even as his body and soul turned to be more monsterous he was spared the blades of his new brothers and became a necessary evil in the batter against worse things. Instead he was turned from a scared little boy into a fierce monster used to fight other monsters.
Then as the years went by and he grew, so too did his might. He was faster, stronger, and tougher than others, yet deep down inside he was held back by the nightmares that still plagued him. The smell of burning flesh, the sight of charred bone, and the haunting fact that the one who did it all... was now himself. He was the devil he hated all his life.
Signature Weapon:
While training with the Hunters Lusius had tried many different weapons and styles of combat, yet the one that stuck was the sword. Deftly wielding his blade "Harbinger" he cuts through his foes. Not exactly a very special weapon, but it is specially heat tempered to resist great temperatures such as being engulfed in flame.
Yet no matter how much he trains with his sword he'll never compare in capability to his Burning Form. Lusius has the power to summon forth the fire inside him, engulfing him in obsidian and fire to turn into the living inferno. Gaining great strength, speed, durability, wings, a tail, and sharp, burning claws he grows in both height and power. When in this form he can throw fire, take flight, and even breathe gouts of red hot fire.
Yet this form isn't without consequence. Rage consumes him, tainting his mind and vision turning him from the calm, cool, collected man to a beast that takes great issue in determining friend from foe. Similarly he then becomes susceptible to many of the tools he learned to use as a Hunter. Holy symbols and gold weaken him when pressed to his burning body. Water strikes at his fires and while he often evaporates small amounts, dousing him will crust his obsidian skin and harden his joints rendering him much slower even to the point of locking up his body.
Things he looks for in a partner:
Compassion above all. Even among his brothers in arms he's an outcast for what he is so the most attractive thing he could look for is compassion and acceptance for what he is.
