Once Hiro had landed, finding the others was simple. Unlike them, he'd prevented himself from being knocked too far by way of using revolving heaven mid-air, which gave him the wherewithal to observe and think. The duck jounin Kamoji wasn't anywhere near where they'd left him... but likewise did not seem to be in range of his eyes. Did he have... some method of hiding himself, even from the all-seeing Byakugan? No... That was impossible. He had to have run out of range. Perhaps he had some method of tracking them from a distance. Hiro supposed that meant that they had a little time. They would need it.
Jin, it seemed, had picked a fight with a random bear and Misaki had, he supposed, wisely decided to hide up a tree and left Jin to his fate. But as appealing as leaving Jin to be eaten by a bear may have been, Hiro would not be able to make such a decision, as much as Jin grated on him. Like any good leader, he would have to be accountable for the excesses of who he led. You could not lead who you would abandon. It was one of the many lessons he'd learned from his father and one of the many responsibilities laid on him by the village. The price of pride and privilege was just that responsibility. If you could not live up to your birthright, you did not deserve it nor the pride that went along with it. He had to get Misaki. He had to help Jin. He had to defeat that bear. He was a Hyuuga. He was the son of the White-Eyed Tiger. Leading two ninja against a bear was as nothing next to that.
"It isn't becoming of you to hide from a fight. Forgive me, if it is mistaken to have thought you someone that does not run away", said Hiro when he was beneath Misaki's tree. He'd said it quiet enough, but Misaki heard him anyway. She hugged her skirt to her legs, hopped down agilely to a lower branch, and hissed, "You mean like the guy getting batted around by that bear?"
And true to her word, Jin was tossed into another tree. If he wasn't wearing his helmet, he probably would have been knocked unconscious, but instead he got right back up and barreled at the creature, outrunning the bees chasing after him.
"I thought you believed yourself to possess greater ability than Kani-san", Hiro continued, "It is a trifling thing to defeat a bear."
He turned his back on her and began to walk towards the bear, "It could be that the standards in Suna are different. Perhaps I have asked too much."
As dimly as he viewed Jin, he wasn't ignorant of the crab's toughness, the boy loved to boast his endurance and even Hiro knew he was a veritable brick wall. That he'd survived as long as he had being slashed about with the bear's massive strength was a testament to that endurance. Hiro would have to be more careful. However, it was a beast, its accuracy would not be even close to that of a trained shinobi. So long as he could prevent himself from being hit, or especially slashed, he would have the upper hand quickly.
"You aren't Konoha", said Misaki from behind, having apparently jumped down from her tree.
"I am the least of it", Hiro replied without looking back at her, "and I will defeat this bear."
Just at that moment, Jin came barreling forward, bees in tow, and leaped towards the creature. This time, however, he didn't seem to be aiming a punch. With his arms outstretched and his mouth open wide, when the bear went to swat him away, he took the force of the blow and grabbed onto its arm like a tick. In fact, he sunk his teeth into its fur and growled through it, "Rrrrrrr Ananikey Jim Komi!!!!"
With his face firmly buried in the bear's fur, which he found himself stuck to because of the leaking honey from his helmet, the bees could not find adequate purchase on his skin to continue stinging and took to attacking the bear instead. The bear, mostly ignored the bees, but batted them off of his nose and sneezed at them. This was the opportunity that Hiro needed. Rushing forward, Hiro aimed a blow to the creature's torso, which was completely open and struck... only to find... his blow had only caused the bear to belch. What was this? The bear didn't even seem to notice with Jin stuck stalwartly to his arm!
"I thought defeating a bear was a trifle", chimed in Misaki with a smirk. Hiro frowned and jumped backwards.
"I need to strike its head", Hiro replied coolly, "Distract it."
"Why? It's Jin. He seems to be doing fine on his own", said Misaki. Hiro, for the first time, looked directly into Misaki's eyes. He was glaring murderously.
"Kani-san is our teammate. That is reason enough", Hiro almost whispered. If she was going to act like nothing more than a common dog, then she would have to be disciplined like one. Hiro would not allow an insubordinate- At this point, the bear was waving around his arm like a windmill as Jin's teeth had finally hit blood! Just how hard had he been biting that he was able to get through the bear's thick hide? Hiro supposed he would claim that the jaws of the crab were... stupendous, maybe, despite crabs not having jaws to speak of.
"Now", he demanded and Misaki startled, but also startled to life, rushing towards the bear with incredible speed and making what would be a low sweeping kick if it was aimed at a human, but it was a fairly medium-height sweep to the thing's knee. There was a crack of thunder on impact and its leg pushed off the ground, tilting the beast while it swung its Jin-entrenched arm to try to regain balance! This was the chance he'd been waiting for...
Hiro's blow was true this time, landing dead center on the beast's third eye with as much chakra as he could blast through its skull! The bear's eyes looked in several directions at once before...
Poof!
The whole creature vanished in a puff of smoke, leaving only the bees and a box. Jin fell to the ground got up and proclaimed "I hath defeated nature with my stupendous Kani teeth! There are no teeth mightier than those of the amazing crab!"
After escaping the bees, the trio found themselves even deeper in the woods. Just what was the box? Was that bear really a set up? A transformed clone? Then the box must be a part of the test. He looked it over with his Byakugan. It didn't seem trapped. It was some kind of... he opened it up and there was a note in it. As Hiro read it, a very distinct song began to play. The note read:
"Good job my geeeenin! You managed to defeat a bear! Try to hit Kamooooji with the time you have to spaaaaare!"
A chill ran down Hiro's spine and he heard a whoosh. It was.... KAMOJI'S HAMMER!
Flying from seemingly nowhere, the hammer careened towards the trio too suddenly for anyone to react and the three were knocked ever deeper into the woods... Just what would come next? |
