Name: Denair
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Faction/Allegiance: Currently aligned with Othea (due to his interest in the Prince). Is looking to become a part of the military.
Relic Description: The book is completely black, with no writing or insignia on it. The pages themselves are also completely black, and it won’t open unless the owner opens it. Once opened, red writing appears inside that completely covers every single page. Over time he noticed that additional pages appear when additional Shadows get placed into the book. The language it is written in is unknown to anyone Nanashi has talked too, however he can read it as clear as day. Most of the book contains gibberish, but on further inspection its a bunch of names all jumbled together. The rest of the writing in the book are the names of people inside the book that are contracted to him. Whenever the book is opened, Nanashi's eyes turn red.
Relic Price: When a contract is used, you have to grant the used one request.
Relic Skills: When an exceptional person dies, someone with a unique or highly advanced skill/s, a Shadow of their self is placed within the book (similar to a copy of their soul/mind). Relic users are an exception to this, as they are already claimed by another relic. So while you’re not directly connecting to the dead, it’s theoretically the same thing. While they are put in the book, you have no power over them until you form a contract with them. This contract requires the consent of both parties, Denair only has access to three as of this moment. You can activate a contract by opening the book and calling out their name, at which point an illusion is generated of their most attached item and is used to anchor them to you. You gain their expertise and knowledge while this is active. You can only call on one person at a time.
He has access to the following people at this moment:
- Mary. Her item is a silver bow, made of wood but silver in appearance it is a thing of pure beauty. She claims it's one of the best bows a bowman can wield. She also claims she's the best marksman in history, but that's debatable. Additionally an exceptional hunter and has quite a large knowledge of the wilderness due to her travels. He gained her contract because he reminded her of a younger sibling she once had.
- Jack. His special item is a Joker's mask that he used to hide his identity. Formally a Joker, informally an Assassin. Can use knives at closer and far range, has exceptional hearing and quite a large knowledge of how the underworld works. He gained Jack's contract only because he was bored, and has stated multiple times that he'll rescind it if Nanashi doesn't entertain him.
- Sereath. Her special item is a medicinal kit that she used for her entire life. A highly skilled healer. Has extensive knowledge in medicinal herbs among other forms of medicine, and has a sensitive sense of touch that allows her to accurately determine internal wounds, while not perfect she is accurate most of the time. He gained her contract because she wanted to help more people, she said that if he uses her for any other purpose then healing she'll rescind the contract.
Personal Skills: His coat is something he discovered in his travels, pitch black on the outside and dark purple in the inside. It has hidden pockets for storage, and is resistant to weather and age.
Appearance: A sturdy, but not thick person. He has pitch black hair, and a scar that travels diagonally across his face. His eyes are bright blue. He wears unassuming clothes except for his coat, which is pitch black as well. He's unnaturally common, so unassuming that if it wasn't for his bright eyes and huge scar, you wouldn't notice him at all. Average height, average gait, average looks. Almost as if he was cultivated. He carries arrows with him, but no bow. Some question this, but he always waves it off so it is unknown why.
Secrets: His lineage is ancient, close to the beginning just after The Old Kingdom fell. His book was also originally discovered around that time, and he is the first user of it.
Personality: the 10 years of solitude made Denair almost mute, hardly speaking unless he must. Because of his lack of emotions, he can't become attached to much else besides himself. He focuses mainly on things that interest him, and finding out about his past. His ideology is also twisted because he can't feel. If her were to be mugged in an alley, he'd kill the man/woman who mugged not because they tried to steal from him, but because they couldn't understand the difference in strength. If he's treated with kindness, he'll go out of his way to help them out of recognition for what they did for him. If he gets lied to it doesn't matter to him, as they were good enough to deceive him. Murder and other forms of atrocious acts are irrelevant to him, and hold no sway one way or another.
Relations: He has a connection to a highly skilled information broker, who has an allegiance to Othea, they know each other personally and so he uses him whenever he needs information. They use informants he has spread in various areas to communicate. He can call upon an informant by placing an insignia of an eagle in a bar and then waiting.
Biography: The earliest trace to his origin is when he appeared on the doorstep of a family's home on the edge of Othea, in a basket carrying himself, a note and a book. The book was entirely black, completely blank inside, and the note read ‘Take care of him, for I no longer can’. He was taken in out of compassion, but ultimately his odd nature and twisted ideals disturbed the town. But what led to the town rejecting him from the second he was introduced, was the diagonal birth scar that streaked across his entire face, as if placed there. The children could sense the adults animosity towards him, and seeing his scar they bullied him constantly, making fun of how he looked. His existence was lonely, painful, even the people in his home looked at him with disdain. He spent most of his time cooped up in his room, removing himself from the world. TO waste time, he'd spend days imagining other worlds, places where he was accepted and loved. His days were simple like this until his 14th birthday, where everything changed.
He’d kept the book he had when he was taken in all this time, for it was his only connection to the past life he didn’t understand. That day, the book was acting funny. He decided to ignore it for the time being, and went about his daily chores. It wasn’t until midnight on the dot that the book showed its true nature. A relic. It snapped open, awakening everyone in the village, and its pages started turning frantically as if someone was instigating it, writing red as blood appearing slowly and then faster and faster. He quickly grabbed the book, only to feel the screams of thousands of people torturing his mind. He screamed in pain as his mind was tearing in half, unable to let go of the book which held onto him with unnatural force.
Help me...
I always wanted to....
what's this? A stupid boy, why did I even bother...
Constant chatter surrounded him. Greed, envy, hate, revenge, lust, desire, everything came at him at once. Consuming him, turning him into a mindless beast. it was all he could do to hold on. Eventually the voices started dying down, and so he quickly took hold of the book and shut it. By then, however, it was too late. He had changed.
Days had passed since that incident, he still wouldn’t talk no matter what they said to comfort him. Days turned to week, weeks turned to months, months turned to years, and still he sat their devoid of expression, hardly eating or drinking except to sustain his life. Most thought he’d given up on life and left him alone, that is until 9 years later when he suddenly stood up, picked up the book, and opened it. He’d spent the last 9 years sitting there to master his mind, so they couldn't sway or influence him. It paid off, for when he picked up the book the voices no longer affected him. He could finally use the relic.
“Welcome, holder of the Book of Death.”
He spent the next year learning to understand the book, to learn about it. He met many people in the book, all wanting something from him, all desiring something they could never reach in their own time. Over time, he began to understand more about the book, and the world. As they talked about their travels, adventures, how they lived, his experience and viewpoints changed. He began to understand and appreciate kindness, know why people lied, accept the nature of others. Finally, after an entire year, he found three minds who were willing to help him on his travels. He decided he was ready. But that day, 10 years ago, could never be forgotten. He lost something precious on that day, something he could never get back. His emotions. Be it sadness, compassion, anger, hatred, love, sadness or any other form of emotional feelings, they no longer existed within him. He could no longer hate someone who betrayed, nor love someone who cared for him. He was a truly lonely being.
Two days later he had packed and left without saying goodbye, the town has happy to be rid of him anyways. There was no-one to say goodbye too. He was off to Amaryth, with the letter he'd received. He'd heard interesting tales of the Prince, that the Church had less way over him then they liked. He decided that he'd help him.
