The people of the world were long ago blessed by the gods with many gifts, one of which is the magical ability over one of the elements. Greater than all of these gifts, however, is the Mark. It appears as a birthmark, a dark patch of skin on the person’s right wrist, and identifies all those blessed with a Destined, or soulmate. Thus, everyone’s Mark looks exactly the same. Only after two Destined fall in love do their Marks change: they glow and transform into a unique design, identifying as each other’s Destined. Once you have found your Destined, the love you share will fuel your magical abilities, something all the Marked share. But Marks are extremely rare, and most of those who have them never find their Destined. Most people don’t have the resources to travel and find their Destined, so they usually just marry someone in their village. You can even fall in love with someone who isn’t your Destined. But without them, your powers fade until they are long gone.

The royal family of the kingdom of Orewyn is one of the few families blessed long ago by the gods to all have Marks, generation after generation. This brought forth an ancient tradition: when the royal children turn 18, the marrying age, the huge Festival of Destinies is held to celebrate their birthdays and to find their Destined. Eligible youths with Marks from all over the country are invited to the Royal City to attempt to find the prince or princess’ Destined. Even peasants are invited, with the Crown paying for the trip. This year is a special occasion, as the royal children are twins Crown Princess Laurelin and Prince Lukas. It is the largest festival in memory and every one with a Mark is invited.

Only two of the hundreds of youths that will come to the Royal City will actually marry the prince and princess. Most come with fingers crossed to simply meet their Destined, royalty or not. The festival is a time for celebration, meeting, and love.

Slice of life soulmate RP, medieval setting. Looking for 17 other people at most, trying to keep everyone paired up with another RPer so nobody ends up with an NPC. Every Destined has magical abilities corresponding to one element (see below for options). We will sort out who is who's Destined so you won't know who it is.

Elementals, with a lowercase e, are humans blessed by the Children with control over one of the six elements each represent. Each element has its own unique abilities, strengths, weaknesses, and advanced techniques. These advanced techniques can be unlocked by elementals who have either undertaken years and years of study and practice, or have found their Destined. Magic does drain the user, though through study one can increase their magical stamina.

• Light

  is the most powerful, but also the most harmless of the elements. It has no direct offensive capabilities - other than possible blindness at the generation of enough light - and its advanced capabilities are extremely difficult to master. It’s abilities include:
  

  • Light generation - the simplest technique
  • Healing - the most powerful elemental healing. Light elementals can heal external and most internal injuries, while the most skilled healers can help repair bone and organ tissue. However, regeneration of entire limbs, organs, and resurrection are not possible.
  • Light manipulation - in the form of illusion and invisibility, both abilities that involve the manipulation of light, also an advanced technique
  • Teleportation - extremely advanced, an ability shared with lightning elementals
• Earth

  refers to the actual Earth rather than its soil. As such, it is a diverse element. It is unique in its three subcategories: earth, flora, and fauna; these are underlined. Each earth elementals magical abilities are limited to one subcategory (so pick wisely!).
  

  • Earth: refers to the actual soil of the earth and its many forms (dirt, sand, lava, metal, and glass/crystal). Since these different forms are very different to control, elementals usually master one form and dabble in others. Keep balance in mind. Regardless, this subcategory includes:
    
    • Earth Manipulation and control
    • Seismic sense - the ability to sense vibrations in the earth, serving as an extra 'sight'
    • Petrification - a very advanced technique, and also very illegal. It’s basically murder.
  • Fauna elementals have the abilities:
    
    • Empathy - an easier technique to master than telepathy, it involves the sensing and controlling of emotions of animals. To do so on humans is a slightly more advanced ability.
    • Telepathy - reading thoughts is a step above empathy, with control even harder. On humans, it’s a very advanced technique, and very taboo.
    • Animal morphing - an extremely advanced technique that involves the transformation into animals that the user is familiar with. Must like the manipulation of different forms of earth, an elemental chooses a handful of animals to come to know well and transform into.
  • Flora elementals have the abilities:
    
    • Growth Control
    • Plant Manipulation - more advanced that controlling the growth of plants is to alter their shape, making and controlling tendrils and perhaps even making them into armor
    • Plant generation - the spontaneous generation of plants to control is an advanced technique
    • Wood/paper Manipulation - very advanced technique, as it is the control of dead plant material
• Air

  elementals are at an advantage as their element is everywhere. Thus, they have a limitless supply of their element to control in the following ways:
  

  • Air manipulation
  • Flight - to do so with is an advanced ability
  • Weather Manipulation is done with the control of atmospheric conditions, and is a very advanced technique
• Lightning

  is the least understood ability, as electricity and neurology aren’t commonplace in a medieval setting. As such, it is very difficult to master, but is also extremely powerful. It’s control includes:
  

  • Electric Manipulation - in the shape of lightning discharge and electric aura
  • Static Electricity Manipulation can be employed in wall-crawling
  • Empathy - sensing emotions by sensing nerve impulses in the brain
  • Teleportation - extremely advanced, ends up looking and sounding like lightning and thunder. Can be very destructive.
• Water

  , alongside its sister element fire, is the easiest element to master, and extremely destructive. It has less advanced techniques than other elements, yet still allows a variety of abilities, such as:
  

  • Water Manipulation is limited in that users cannot create their own water to control. However, users can easily learn the ability to create water from the moisture in the air
  • Healing through water is possible, though limited to external injuries, such as cuts and burns
  • Ice/Snow Manipulation is subject to the same limitations as water. Freezing people is also possible, very advanced, and also very illegal.
• Fire

  is easiest to master, like its sister element water. This is fortunate, as fire is a very volatile element, and without proper control can be extremely destructive. Its abilities include:
  

  • Spark Generation and Fire Manipulation - in this way, fire elementals can create their own fire to control
  • Explosion Generation - inducing combustion to other objects doesn’t take much to master. Incineration is an application of this ability that is a more advanced technique, and like freezing and petrification, is illegal.

@Mistress Dizzy Hi! I'm Co-GM. Regarding your question, yes. Honestly, we still haven't figured out the whole magic thing. One thing we do know is that Earth has a frick ton of sub powers. Metal is one of them, but there's also animal life and plant life. But you can only pick one! My suggestion is to hold off on powers.

Please go to the advanced threat and wait for the OOC. Don't post your character yet. For elements just write earth (you can change this later if you'd like). Also, please look for a face claim so we can picture your character!

@Dioxide No quota, as long as there's a decent spread of elements. Once the characters start getting confirmed, we'll bring it up if it's an issue.

BUT! There is a quota for sex! We want to pair up everyone with someone of the opposite gender (easier to keep the mystery that way), so we do need the same number of boys and girls. If necessary, the GMs will double up characters. Anybody is welcome to do so as well.

Future Co-GM here! So at this point maybe a little more background on the world might be useful.

Basically, there’s a main religion that worships the Mother, the Father, and their Children. The Children are six minor gods, each ruling over one of the elements (light, earth, air, lightning, water, fire). The Children blessed certain humans with the ability to control ONE element. The extent of these powers will be established once we start the OOC. Anyways, the Mother and Father were the ones that blessed even fewer people with the Mark, and the love between two soulmates and the power that comes from it is a reflection of the relationship between the Mother and Father. So everyone with a Mark has magical abilities. There’s more to this, but we’ll get into that once the RP starts.

Everyone worships the Mother, Father, and whatever minor god they want, if they want. Usually, people with magic worship the minor god that rules over their element. But since most people don’t have magical abilities, most don’t pray to the minor gods. They can if they want, but it’s not necessary. But the Mother and Father are biggies for everyone.

Everyone also has a household shrine for worship. There’s also temples all over the place, and how big they are depends on the place. A small village might have one building with a main shrine for the Mother and Father, and smaller ones for the Children. If you’ve ever been to a Hindu temple, it would look like that. But a big town or city may have like a plaza of temples, with multiple buildings. So if you want, you can make your character a priest or a temple upkeep if you’d like. Mine will be close to one :D

Also! People do have last names. Shoot for English, Irish-ish sounding names. Think Game of Thrones. For example, the prince and princess are called Lukas and Laurelin Costain.
