I am Odin, and I inhabit this site for two reasons: to write, and to enjoy a sense of community (or, sometimes, to enjoy the lack thereof >:^)). This interest check is my attempt to put those two together, and to write with people with whom I can form a sense of community. Relevant details about me:

• Do not and will not play as or against canons.
• Write as a hobby, not for a living; I write at my own pace and my posting schedule may vary depending on how much I feel like writing. This is ostensibly also the most important piece of information.

I enjoy RP's centered around history, but am not afraid to dabble in any other settings. Pairing wise, I am not picky either. I have found over the course of my roleplaying career that the only thing that makes or breaks a roleplay is the relationship I enjoy (or don't) with the writing partner. So, if we click, the story will work out. My preferred themes are as follows, ordered from most desired to least, but the list is not exhaustive:

In terms of what I will and will not write, it is pretty clear cut. I have yet to see an idea that I detest so much that I simply will not do it purely on the basis of the concept of that RP. Consider that an invitation to send me any ideas you might have yourself -- I might say yes.

Furthermore, I am inviting towards content that is mature as the roleplay community calls it nowadays. That means violence, gore, "triggering themes" and sexual content. As above, so below, and so I must also add that thus far I have never been proposed a concept for violent, gory, triggering or sexual themes that I detested so much I would not do so -- I intend to approach all these ideas with an open mind and, barring those that break the rules, you should also see that as an invitation to send me your ideas.

What I look for in a partner is perhaps even more simple than my explanation of myself. On a surface level, I'm simply looking for a writing partner that can match my level of writing for the relevant roleplay. Any additions, such as friendly OOC banter, are a nice bonus at that point, and only serve to enhance the partnership, and through that, the quality of the roleplay. After all, I am simply that much more willing to sacrifice to write for a partner I get along with, than I would be for someone who I do not interact with in an OOC capacity.

Ideally, you also do not wish for me to post on a high speed posting schedule. Posting once a day, twice a day is something I could do when I was 14, but unfortunately for both of us, I am no longer 14. As such, an understanding of the fact that I might not always feel like writing is paramount to me.

It would be very nice if you could write a short introduction about yourself if and when you decide to PM me, just so I know who I am dealing with. 8)

idea I

It is the early viking age, and vikingr have just begun sailing to Angaland. Here they hope to find glory, fortune and fame. After all, cattle dies, kinsmen die, even you yourself may one day die; but there is one thing that never dies, which is the name of a respected man. Glory, fortune and fame respectively are all ways to earn that respect. Or, perhaps in the process, you may find death at the hand of a fearsome Anglo-Saxon foeman, and be rewarded with an eternity of battle and merriment with other einherjar. Either way - the prospects look pretty good, especially when the alternative is staying home where there is little to do, since the land is barren and the harvest has already been gathered.

It is here that we find a vikingr traveling by ship with the rest of a tribe, lead by a fearsome chieftain, jarl or even konungr, rare as they may have been. This vikingr is a repected þegn (thane) and as such is a man sworn to his leader, and rewarded with a silver armband and a respected position in the court of the local leadership.

But what happens when a group of thralls are brought back, who are followers of the White Christ? These thralls are spread among the vikingr that helped the leader obtain his victory during the raid, and must now find their new home in the village of their captors. What will be their new purpose, how will they adapt to their new life, and perhaps more importantly, how will they interact with their captors.

Why would you be a lamb of God when you can be a wolf of Odin? This story seeks to find out.

idea II

_{A Thracesian woman kills a Varangian for trying to rape her, for which his brothers in arms applaud her and give her his belongings -- she had earned them.}

It is somewhere in the tenth or eleventh century, most certainly after 874. The Kievan Rus' had made a treaty that, in exchange for the hand of a Byzantine princess, the Rus would send soldiers to aid the Byzantines and would convert to Orthodoxy. Little did the Byzantines know that the ruler of the Kievan Rus would send only the most unruliest of his warriors - remnants of the Vikingr that had conquered the Russian tribes and, for the most part, tried to unify them under Rurik.

These men were eager to find battle and, when the Basileus lead them to battle, happily chased down the enemy troops that were fleeing from them when their leader had suffered a stroke and died. To the civilized Byzantine Empire, who were used to clean and well kept people as per modernized Roman standards, these axe wielding barbarians were savages, but none the less a useful force to keep at hand.

In this empire, things work very differently from home, and while the Varangian Vikingr are 'allowed' to resolve issues betwixt themselves in their own ways (mostly bloodshed), most of the vikingr habits are frowned upon. And, vice versa, a lot of the Byzantine bureaucracy and pompous showings of strength seem theatrical and useless to the vikingr.

Here, a Varangian of some renown finds himself cornered by the Basileus, who sees his death on the horizon. This Basileus is sickly, and the heir to inherit the Byzantine empire is a weak boy, no older than 14, who still suckles his mothers tit, and is sickly and disfigured. It is clear that when the Basileus dies, the empire will devolve into a civil war.

His final request is to take one of his children that were not born in the Purple North, to the Kievan Rus, so that they might shelter them and utilize them to retake the throne in their name, in exchange for a beneficial marriage here or there. The road North is, of course, full of dangers, and the dangers might increase trifold if anyone was to find out that one of the two was a pretender to the Byzantine throne. In return for this service, the Varangian would receive a large payment upon leaving, enough to cover the trip to the North and then home, and then have a luxurious retirement pension from the Varangians -- he would most likely not be welcomed back when the new Basileus sits upon their throne.

And so an uneasy alliance is formed between a wolf of Odin and a lamb of God. What happens when they arrive in the Kievan Rus territories, and find out that the Rus king has no intentions of helping them reclaim their throne? What if the Varangian was a two-timer that decided to take the payment and take the child as a prestigious ward/concubine?

It is 1920-1925 and the prohibition is in full swing. In New York, a detective and his partner struggle to make ends meet, and are tasked with a question on ethicality and morals; do you continue to uphold the law because it is the law, or do you take money on the side so you can feed yourself? Whether we play this story out as 'dry' champions, law enforcement officers just doing their job, or corrupt detectives that like a drink in their spare time and think anyone else should be able to, too, in the end the RP focuses on questions of morality.

The story can take us to many places that we wish to explore, from underground smuggling tunnels between Canada and the U.S.A., to entertainment venues, down to the precinct for hours at once just so we can get a key witness to talk.

What attracts you about an interest check?

@Sierra I mean, my current thread was, beyond me flexing my aesthetic muscle, also an attempt to get those people to not write me by just acting like an asshole. It definitely didn't work, but I also didn't grace them with replies. Unfortunately, they seemed to be the only people not responding, probably because all the people that did put in the effort probably realized I was being a massive douche.

What attracts you about an interest check?

Also, don't fall into the trap of writing the interest check as it if were "in-universe". Keep an outside perspective talk about your RP, don't show me a slice of the world you want people to play in and have them dig through that to find whatever it is you want them to find.

"This Rp will be in a fantasy world where people have fish for hands. Figure that's a fun setting. Will have some more info in the OOC." Not "GHeihewhfh, has a deep history, and within it, countless wars have been fought between the countless races, in the end, the FHOOHFEH won, killing all other..." Or, at very least, if you have the "in-universe" stuff, do not put it in focus, and do not expect people to read it, so if it is essential for your rp, re-post it in the OOC.

@Sierra all good points to consider that I don't really have an answer for at the moment (you went pretty in depth). Thus fair, going 'straight to the meat' is something I'm hearing a lot which is something I'll have to consider for myself, since I generally do not do that (mostly out of a belief that going straight to the meat also invites strangers into my PM's who are, perhaps, not up to the standard I set for myself). Time to reconsider that I suppose.

Also, yeah, that's the reason I fell in love with Azgaars. You can import maps in it too, so you could've imported a handdrawn map, I think, but it'd be harder. It making heightmaps, rivers, biomes, and even allowing you to draw in factions is nice, but I'm not sure whether you'll be using that since it possibly limits you?

Common tongue: Heathfolk
Native language: Heidevolk

RACE PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:

The Heidevolk are a race of slightly above average sized humanoids, of which the females will reach approximately 5'9" in height, and the males 6'4". They enjoy protrusions of keratin (commonly called horns) from their head -- two on their forehead, two directly above the forehead horns, facing downwards, and two further back. These horns can be either straight, curved or curled. Their hair is typically blonde, although black, brown and dark, burgundy red hair is also prevalent - just in smaller quantities. Their eyes, however, are all a deep yellow circled by black sclera. This gives them a distinct appearance when contrasted with their generally pale skin.

RACE BEHAVIOR:

Generally speaking, and lacking any real developmental progress in their establishment in the way of history of culture, the Heidevolk are thus far sedentary in their living and rather communal. The limited time span in which they've been sapient means that there is not a whole lot of data to go on, but thus far the Heidevolk have proven to be a peaceful race that prefers to work together to achieve a higher goal -- however, make no mistake, when a Heidevolk is or feels wronged, they will take it very personal and keep a grudge for as long as needed -- forgiving and forgetting is something that the Heidevolk are not particularly good at. As such, it could be said that while the Heidevolk intentions are generally good (if wary), once the threshold into crossing the Heidevolk is breached, returning from it will be no easy feat.
