@Hellis So I hear from these fine folk that you're looking to do a collab?
Wait you guys have a Discord? Why was this not known-

Oh shi whoops. Read wrong.
All in favor of renaming the Borrealis into "Bucket of Sads" or "Saltmine" say aye?

;_;

Or what about the "Bawwrealis"
I'll do something solo then.
The Borealis
Bridge
Two days before Elysium

Hazan sighed as he scrolled through another boring news article onmitool. His talon was wrapped around a whiskey glass, half full of turian brandy. Iced, of course.

It'd been two days after the mission on Virmire. Their course was locked for Elysium but they'd still take time to get there. In the mean time, the crew were doing their own thing. And for Hazan, that meant some severe drinking.

The fact that he'd been unable to stop that smuggler on Virmire from severely hurting Serena... It'd been on his mind for ages. He was sure that Vellios wouldn't forgive him for how badly he'd left her unattended. Hell, he wouldn't forgive himself for letting that smuggler hurt her either. It'd been on his watch. Only him. And he'd let Serena down. He'd let Vellios down too.

And himself.

He sighed and downed another swig of his brandy, appreciating the strong warmth that traveled down into his belly. If anything, the booze helped him forget. For a time.

Serena walked into the bridge room, knocking on the side of the door to get Haze's attention. The turian was drinking, heavily from the looks of it. "Hey Haze. How' are you?" She walked into the bridge, shooing her two drones away as she did so. She some how doubted the turian would want anything more than absolutely necessary for this upcoming conversation.

Hazan looked up and saw... Serena.

He sat up straighter in his chair, a little dumbstruck that she was walking around now. But woozy as he was from the drinking, he slumped back into his chair and his gaze fell towards his omnitool.

She made her way over to where Hazan was sitting and sat in a chair across from him, resting her chin on her hand. "Well? How are you?"

He looked at her, sighed and shrugged.

"I don't know... Happy I guess? That you're up and about. Yaaaay. I didn't completely fail at something for once."

Serena shook her head. "It wasn't your fault Haze. My readouts only mentioned five, and you dealt with all of them. It was simple bullshit with the rain that allowed the other one to slip by and my fault for not having done proper training that got my ass kicked."

She gestured towards the exit. "Don't worry about Vellios. He would've been upset if you'd have let me gotten so much as a splinter. He'll get over himself. You did come back, which is a lot of brownie points over the last group he was pissy at, so you're budding friendship isn't ruined."

"Yeah but I know him enough to know that he's pissed. And...part of me's pissed that I let you down too. Vel trusted me to take care of you and I didn't."

"You didn't fail me either though. It was just bad luck. A massive combination of rain, me sending away my drone, and my shitty fighting skills. Nothing we can do about the first two as rain cares not for our plans and Del will have to assist people at some point. I'm fixing the third one though, so don't worry your pretty little crests. Tanya will help me not get my faced punched in and Dex is working on making sure I have enough accuracy to make Tanya's training a rarity." She suddenly grinned at him. "Ooh, Vel? That's friendly. I like it."

Hazan took a sip from his glass and huffed. All that booze in his system made his mandibles loose, and since the object of his mood was...well, in front of him, he spilled. His voice was low, tinged with guilt.

"It...reminded me of my old crew. Years ago, someone just like you sacrificed herself so we'd get away with a job. Someone I cared about just as much as I care about the crew of this ship. Including you. I was hoping that you wouldn't suffer the same she did and I was right. But...to come so close to losing another... I just couldn't take it."

"We all have our ghosts Haze. But blaming yourself for something out of your control is neither honoring their memory or helping you be prepared for the situations that are in your control. But if you really insist, I'll stick really close to you next time. You'll just have to deal with me constantly tripping and making noise while you try to sneak." She smiled at him.

He smiled rather wryly and shook his head.

"Yeah...thanks, I guess. I'm just glad you're okay, Serena."

Serena chuckled. "You and me both Haze. Now I can give you your gift on time." She stood up, seeming to prepare to head out. "You're sure you're okay? Nothing else you want to talk about?"

He nodded, but stood and turned off his omnitool and console.

"Yeah, nothing else. But I think I'm done here tonight. Maybe for a while. The chairs here aren't comfortable for sleeping in."
I still feel horrible for Hazan.

I think he might follow the "going to get shitfaced" crew.
