Mike stopped dead in his tracks. He slowly turned to face the receptionist.
"He... knows... me?"
Mike swallowed. His heart was racing. Hands shaking. Palms sweating. And his legs were getting shakier by the second as he walked towards the elevators.
The receptionist responded and motioned towards one particular elevator that was larger than the others.
He arrived in front of the elevator and instantly the doors opened. He turned to the receptionist for instruction, but she merely urged him on with her smiling expression.
He stepped into the elevator and faced the wall. There was a single unmarked button, despite it being in a multi-storey building. With no other option, Mike pressed it.
The doors closed. The elevator started moving. Mike didn't know which direction it was going, be it up, down or something else. The elevator stopped and the doors opened.
