Fists & Fate: The Underground Fighting Sandbox

Every world resolves its conflicts differently. Some with swords and spells, some with high powered machines in space, and some with otherworldly cosmic forces. But here in Maximum City things are settled the old way, the oldest way, simple unarmed fighting. It started in the slums and spread to the entire city. The fighting fever studying fighting, watching fights, betting on fights, organising tournaments and of course, participating in them, the game of raw combat and blood never lost its charm.

Now its 1998, crime and corruption have nearly torn the city apart, and an economic recession means that more and more people don't have jobs and are living in desperate poverty. However there is one job that is always accepting new applicants, the fight game. And as the city crumbles from the inside, the only way out is to find your fortune and destiny through combat.

Welcome everyone, Fists & Fate is a street fighting sandbox RP based off of late 90s and Early 2000s brawlers such as Streets of Rage, Urban Reign, Def Jam fight for NY, Final Fight and Beat Down. This also doubles as a slice of life, your character is poor and living in the worst part of Maximum City. You will have a limited amount of money and resources and you will have to fight to earn your living and upkeep. The fighting aspect is also going to be detailed, to improve your abilities and overall skills as a fighter you will need to visit gyms, study fights and learn from masters around the city. When you start your abilities will be limited and to work your way to making big money at major fights in the richer parts of the city you'll need to earn it. Think of this as an Urban MMO.

Maximum city is 'the world' you will be in, but this RP mainly takes place and starts in South Maximum and there will be a more detailed locations list just for that area. But have a look at the entire city for flavor and background. I hope this seems intresting for you, there is no limit of how many people can join!

𝙉𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙝 𝙈𝙖𝙭𝙞𝙢𝙪𝙢

Ivory Square

The oldest and most iconic part of Maximum City. Ivory Square dates all the way back to the 1700s as a 'neutral' meeting spot for kings and emperors to negotiate peacefully. Because of the wealthy and noteworthy visitors the once small town because a popular and famous visiting spot for high end travelers. Today it marks the main city center of Maximum and is home to all the most buildings and companies, including the ECLIPSE HQ and the Daily Scope Newspaper.

Gambion Street

The Middle Class Townhouses populate the residential area just outside the central metropolis. This area is home to a lot of retired crime lords, and corrupt politicians.

The Siren Strip

The 'Siren' was the name of the first female Mob Boss in Maximum who ran a major casino before gambling became fully legal. Although she was killed less than a year after the grand opening the entire adult gaming strip has been named after her out of respect.

The Neo Quarter

The West side of maximum city has a very distinct almost cyberpunk feel due to the high population of blackhat type hackers, dark pulse musicians and high end robotics that are common place in the Neo Quarter. There is also a vibe for 80s retrowave which has influenced the overall style and attitude of this part of the city,

Little Asia

The Triads run this small district on the west side. Known for its amazing food and over the top street fights. The police presence here is almost non existent due to the overwhelming amount of control the bosses have here. The illegal lottery ran in the mahjong dens is currently under investigation and bringing a lot of heat to an area that usually has none.

Eclipse TECH

The leading manufacturer of futuristic technoology. Previously known as Patent Robo Co. The very shady but powerful ECLIPSE company bought them out and used their research to further not only their own security but to focus more on human enhancements and personal weaponry. There have been 1843 robbery attempts since ECLIPSE took over 4 years ago. Only 5 were successful.

Denny's Abandoned Auto Garage

Its only been 10 years since the auto industry has almost dried up in Maximum City, and the Blue Collar East Side of Maximum was hit the hardest, the beloved Denny's Motors was one of the main sources of jobs for regular folk in the area but now the plant is little more than a fugitive shelter and many in this area have turned to crime.

Lemon Grove Estate

Despite the closure signs and barbed fences, this area is NOT abandoned. The tower blocks are filled with gangs who have been constantly warring in this block for the last 3 years. Despite the outward appearance, there is a lot of money exchanged through here and the block is powered by electricity illegally siphoned from the power plant, avoid at all costs. Even the SWAT teams are nervous to enter here.

𝙎𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝 𝙈𝙖𝙭𝙞𝙢𝙪𝙢

FireHawk Bikers Club

The hideout of many outlaw bikers. The venue used to be a high profile meth lab until it was busted 6 years ago. Still a few drugs pushed through here but enough of the cops look the other way.

The LeRoux

Formerly known as the 'Cajun Quarter' until the mayor decided that name carried too much baggage. This part of South Maximum is home to many food festivals, maardi gras events and street bands. The flow of party drugs is heavy in this area, and many petty pickpockets and corner kids make a name for themselves here, as the police presence is fairly thin.

Downtown Block

A regular working class part of town on the south side. Despite the rough attitude of the locals, there is a sense of brotherhood in the area, and when times get hard Downtown sticks together. This is the place where rookie heroes start out thwarting crime.

Gastro Chemicals Inc

Robert Gastro is an industrial billionaire who made his fortune through cutting corners in the factory business, because of his bribery and shady practices, he is able to run all of his facilities with little to no regulation. The noxious chemical plant on minimum island is no exception. And as long as he keeps the the local Councillors in his pocket the area will stay a polluted hell hole.

The Minimum Sewage System

The Sewage plant an underground network for the waste of Maximum city starts on minimum island. The corruoption at the plant is well documented as it has been used for smuggling since the 70s but there has been more recent rumors of dangerous creatures raoming the sewers. Mutation rumors....

Combat

Combat follows the Arena-style method of engagement. You declare attacks but you cannot auto hit. You can attempt to dodge/block/defend but the circumstances of the attempt must be reasonable or your action will be overruled by the GMs (If you get attacked by a whirlwind of combos, don't attempt to Neo-dodge attacks or you will just get torn up).


Please note YOU CAN LOSE in this game, this is part of fighting but as a GM I wont dictate a loss based on 'oops you stepped into a hard jab'.

Fighting Styles

There are many fighting styles to learn in Maximum City but as a newcomer you will have a choice between 6 starting styles, all with their own focuses and techniques. You can have one Active style and one Supporting style if you learn a second one, but no more. learning a new style is very costly financially and skill wise an should never be taken lightly. Having techniques from 2 styles can be very effective and give you the edge when facing varied opponents. See below the 6 (level 0) fighting styles.

Street Brawler

An undisciplined rough style based very loosely on dirty boxing. It's not refined or pretty but against most low level fighters, the relative power and agressiveness is usually enough to get the job done fairly quickly. This style focuses on hard punches and enviromental attacks. Has very poor defensive options beyond a basic low level face block.

Dirty Clinch: A single collar clinch that allows for powerful close range punches and foot stomps.

Kick-Puncher

A street version of Kickboxing, a lot more disicipline than brawling but still a rough style lacking in good defense. Emphasis is on longer than average combos and damaging attacks that leave the opponent stunned or injured. Slightly limited in knockout power and grappling options.

Body Blast: A hard mid range roundhouse kick to the midsection.

Bone-Breaker

A street version of submission grappling. Focuses on holds to crank, twist and break the opponent's limbs making them tap out and quit the match early. Also is adept at counter grappling throws, Striking is very poor, and has below average movement and attacking speed.

Chicken Wing: A very quick arm lock that can be used anywhere.

Okay so this is my pitch, for a long time, I've had a Original Trading Card Game Concept (with nearly 100 cards) But didn't really have the setting to put it in. So I've decided on a Persona-Style supernatural slice of life High School Academy where you as a student uncovers a Conduit Stone and gains the ability to summon Lost Empires Cards to reality and do battle. There will be overreaching plot about how an advertising company is looking to exploit the conduit stones for monetary gain, and in turn, put the world in danger by unleashing ancient magic. Your 'Conduit Stone' will unleash your 'BattleMage Profile' which is basically your 'Card Battle Persona Spirit' it is the ancient battlemage you will transform into to compete in card battles (more info below).



The RP will be split between slice of life 'downtime' and plot driven 'story time' and you will have your own personalized Deck of cards and will be able to earn booster-packs and build your deck as the RP goes on, and initiate battles whenever you wish.

Locations Of Interest

Shumi Island

Located in this world is the independent Shumi Island, discovered in 1810 just off the coast of mainland Japan, it is home to the very powerful Shibuya entertainment media, which is respnsible for hosting all sorts of exciting sporting events including E-sports, X-treme sports and even the brand new sport Dash-Ball (covered in another RP). The Island has many schools, beaches, parks and basically can be described as a natural playground for those who can afford to take part.

Catalyst Academy

This is the central point of your story, Catalyst academy, one of the lesser known schools in the district, it is said to be built on an ancient burial ground which has given rise to countless ghost stories and supernatural investigations in and around the school. Because the interest in the mythical and unknown is so strong here, there is a large fascination with fantasy and roleplay among the students, and this includes your character!

Cayman District

The fairly quiet but highly populated Cayman District is a residential area that your character will be living in, because of all the space, it is a popular spot for student accommodation so its a great place to network and socialise with your peers, this is also a great spot for boating and fishing, and is sometimes home to surfing competitions during the summer.

The Mocha-Stream Cafe

This cafe is very rarely visited, some people say its because the atmosphere is too relaxed for the high energy people of Shhumi, but others are convinced there is something sinister happening there. The school teacher Yojima is occasionally seen walking out of here fairly late, but no one, not even the other staff know why.

Vice Room

A mysterious meeting place for a select few individuals that only opens after midnight. Most people know it as a poker room. But it is something much much more.

Canis Canem Edit is a wolf based deck that is balanced and perfect for beginners, but does lack the raw magical firepower of other sets, instead focusing more of natural canine based ferocity.

Effect: A fast and agressive attacking support character, the man-wolf lacks fighting skill and any strategy and will always charge at an opponent with direct slashing and biting. Man-Wolf also has a very short life span and will be used up and discarded quickly. Its life span increases if there are other wolf characters on the battlefield.

Flavor Text: Thier howls are not of pride, but of guilt for what they have become.

Flavor Text: Many hunters wont even consider the idea of hunting an etheral wolf, as being stalked by one causes great depression and a feeling of lonlieness.

Effect: The mermaid will spawn directly in the middle of the user and the opponent. If the player is able to make contact first, 15% health will be replenished. If she takes one attack from any enemy the card is discarded immediately. If there is a body of water the mermaid will slowly make her way towards it.
Flavor Text: Her beauty is well documented. Her type, is up for debate.

Effect: A small but sturdy shield that provides some good protection against most conventional weapons, but rarely total protection. Can alternatively be used as weapon for a blunt sheild bash.

Effect:A sly non attacking support that dashes at the opponent and attempts to pickpocket, if it manages to get close, the player will be able to to use the opponents next available weapon card for themselves, wether or not the steal is successful the Rogue will then be discarded.

Flavor Text: "If your opponent is using it, its probably worth having."

Effect:A giant crow that flies above the enemy and will attempt to drop a cannonball on its opponents head. Only has two cannonballs, and wil discard itself after dropping both. A large flying target, that moves fairly slowly but has decent toughness.
Flavor Text: Creatures like these are starting to force pirates to rename parts of the ship.

Effect: The Siren sings which attracts all support to walk towards it, the first one who touches her will be hit with a very powerful attack which will always cause the siren to self discard. The siren doesnt move while singing unless she is near a body of water she can travel in.
Flavor Text: Famously, the siren's song is the most beautiful sound in the world, but for many it is the last thing they ever hear.

Desert Emprie is desert themed deck that mainly deals in magical offense, but with a few clever effect cards thrown in too. Very straightforward and easy to use.

Effect: A Slow dumb sentry type character who attacks with a blunt axe, not a very capable fighter but is slightly tougher than average when it comes to absorbing damage.
Flavor Text: Most of the undead stalkers were just as much a threat to humanity when they were still alive.

Effect: A non-fighting support creature, the Tomb Caster uses its withering ability to decrease the amount of time that other support and transfrom creatures stay in effect. Has moderate health and toughness but is rather slow.

Flavor Text: After a lifetime of ruling egypt, he now spends the afterlife following orders.

Effect: Mutant ant is fairly fast in dash and can attack directly in front with its pincers. Its hard shell is also decent armor. But its agility is lacking and attack patterns are fairly predictable.
Flavor Text: Although a worker ant, after growing to the size of Rhino, he was convinced he could get a lot more done on his own.

2x Throwing Chakram

Effect: A fast, damaging throwing weapon with good damage that will bounce of surfaces for 'bank shot' attacks. Is much less damaging against armored opponents.
Flavor Text: Its not a boomerang, be careful where you throw it.

Effect: A cavalryman who rides up and down the battlefield trying to strike enemies with his scimtar in a hit and run tactic. Although fast and powerful, the Knights mobility is very effected by terrain, and while his lifespan is decent, a single hit to the mounted knight while moving will kill him instantly.

Flavor Text: Because its no fun collecting heads standing still.

Effect: An angry giant who throws a large boulder at the opponent, the boulder will smash through most structures on the battlefield and doesn't dissapear after it stops moving.
Flavor Text: Everyone has a strategy until they get a giant rock thrown at them.

Effect: A strong and skilled transform creature with moderate speed and defense and no real weaknesses. Is able to destory weaker structures in an arena.
Flavor Text: The Lizard warrior is much stronger than his cousins, rarely misses an oppurtunity to remind everyone.

Effect: A non attacking monster that slowly circles the bettlefield and creates soft sand wells underneath the opposing characters feet. This slowly fills the battlefield with sand and slows the ground speed of all enemy chracters. Very vunerable to blunt attacks
Flavor Text: Is mostly worried about what the local cats might bury around him when he is asleep.

Element: Mars
Effect: A skilled fighter with a flame element staff with average speed and low defense. Unique as he will only follow-up attack against an ememy that the player attacks with weapon, stays passive otherwise.

Flavor Text: He is inspired by those who are reckless enough to make the first move.....

Name: Fire Knuckle
Type: Weapon
Element: Mars
Effect: The fist of a fire specter appears out of the ether to deliver a fiery uppercut, the damage is very good and the range is deceptively long.
Flavor Text: 500 years in the afterlife and the fisticuffs still remains the weapon of choice.
