Name:Matthew Pierce
"Right, I think we need to be going now. We have important work to do!"

Gender:Male

Age:20

Appearance:

Matthew is a tall and lanky dude, with soft yet neat brown hair swept out of his face, usually serious brown eyes, pale skin that shows that he’s usually inside reading books all day instead of doing something athletic, and a narrow and slightly pointy nose. He’s not really muscular or athletic, and isn’t “stronger than he looks” physically, either. Instead, his strengths come from his brain and practical nature. So, basically, he’s a nerdy twig. xD

He usually wears clothing that’s subdued in color, making him not stand out so much. His favorite piece of clothing is his long, brown cloth jacket, which he usually wears when it’s cold outside. Otherwise, he usually wears browns, beiges, blacks, and grays, with some other color thrown in if he’s feeling a bit extra that day.

Personality:
{Serious}{Practical}{No nonsense}

Matthew is a serious dude who doesn’t really like goofing around. He’s not much for cracking jokes or telling quippy one liners, and would rather get the work done and move on, whether it be a serious fight against a monster or just studying on his off time.

He often studies about and trains for his magic, and is often very irritated when he finds frequent dead ends whenever he tries to find anything useful for magic in general. He’s also very irritated when Nyx refuses to work with him, which is most of the time. He’s not trying to be a slaver, damnit! He’s only trying to work with her on her terms, and she’s still refusing to help him anyway!

Despite trying to be calm and in control of everything, Matthew is actually an utter mess in terms of his actual emotions. He’s easily annoyed, easily frustrated, easily stressed, and very, very nervous and pessimistic. Despite all this, he buries all his emotions all the way down, and only lets them out when he’s in private. Unfortunately, Nyx is usually with him even when he’s in private, which can lead to some…awkward situations.

Speaking of Nyx, she and Matthew have an…odd relationship, to say the least. They usually argue and bicker, and Nyx often teases Matthew, knowing exactly the way to get under his skin. They are still friends, though, and when the chips are down, Nyx will often do a whole lot of clever maneuvers in order to get him somewhere safe. She never wants to collaborate with him, however, and Matthew can sense that beneath all the teasing and snark, there’s something Nyx isn’t telling him…

History:
{College student}{Trauma}{Emotionally abusive family}{Emotional manipulation}{From joking child to serious adult}

Matt wasn’t always this serious.

Starting when he was a child, Matt used to be known as the jokester of the family, usually telling puns and riddles and just generally not taking things seriously. He was also very emotional and a bit manipulative, crying at the drop of a hat if he didn’t get his way, and also liked wearing colorful/pastel clothing, as well as loving cute things and usually carrying a teddy bear around.

Since he was in a place that was more lenient with gender roles, everyone around him was okay with this, including his mother, who loved him to death.

Then, tragedy struck.

While Matt and his family were traveling to his grandmother’s house, they got into a wreck that killed Matt’s older twin siblings and mother and paralyzed Matt’s father from the waist down. Only Matt came out fully unscathed.

After that, everything changed for little Matt. Along with having to live with survivor’s guilt and the death of half his family, his grandmother soon became the head of the household in order to take care of his father and constantly berated Matt for his jokes and his love of cute things and bright colors, telling him that “real men don’t joke around” and “I will not let my grandson be a feminine pushover!”

Not wanting to disappoint his family and his father agreeing with his grandmother because she was taking care of him, Matt gradually “grew out of” his “more feminine” interests and became more serious, throwing away his teddy bear and starting to bottle up his emotions because his grandmother complained about them, too.

Then, when Matt was fourteen, he had his first supernatural encounter…with a bat spirit who tried taking over his mind.

Thankfully, Matt was stubborn enough to resist the spirit’s multiple attempts in order to make her worn down to make a deal with him instead, with the deal being that the spirit would protect Matt from monsters if he would let her stay in his mind.

Matt, reluctant but frightened at the mention of more monsters, decides to let the spirit stay, and six years later, Matt is in college and gets a weak version of light magic, but the spirit(Nyx) stays in his mind because "the deal hasn't been paid off yet"(in reality, Nyx has formed a bond with Matt, and still wants to protect him, but is too tsundere to admit that.).

Equipment:

Phone
Some books on magic
Charging cable
Couple changes of clothes
A handful of dollars and pennies

Magic:

Let there be LIGHT.

Matthew can partially illuminate a room and also make things, people, or himself give off a faint glow. He can also partially blind people or creatures by literally shooting light into their eyes. As for his weaknesses, his vision dims a bit after using his powers, and he will become blind for a while if he uses them too much. His powers are also fairly weak compared to the others and even Nyx, but he tries to be helpful nonetheless.

So, what does everyone think of Ms. Smith?

(Also, I'm super sorry if you didn't want her to be included. I just had an idea to include her and, like the fool I am, I did.)
((Um, is it okay if Ms. Smith has colored text as well? It's okay if it's not!))

It should've been a beautiful day outside.

Ivan huddled under a building as a cat with a gold pouch on his back, waiting for the rain to stop. He had just stolen some gold from a crypt underneath the city, and had turned into a cat in order to slip past all the traps and get to it. Unfortunately, he couldn't bring all of it with him, due to his current size and also the fact that if he turned into a human in the crypt, he would probably trigger a trap or something, and it would either hinder his escape or make him drop the gold that he did have. Either way, he didn't have much gold when he escaped, and while he tried to convince himself that it was okay, that there was more gold at home(which there was), he still found himself wanting more.

He was Blackbeard once upon a time, after all. Why couldn't he have more?

As for why he wasn't braving the rain, well, he was a cat. Along with the fact that he had had to dart over to the nearest building in order to avoid getting wet, he really didn't feel like braving the rain today, even as a human. He cursed his new cat-like instincts for this, but...

Ivan looked at the rain again. It was still pouring down heavily, and didn't look like it was intent on stopping. It was also gross(and equivalent to sky drool/tears), wet, and horrid in all senses of the word, and Ivan wasn't planning on touching it at all. While he had talked to some Detective guy earlier, which had made him leave the crypt before he could figure out how to bring more of the gold along with him, now, Ivan was pondering over whether to not go to the meeting he had set up with that guy. I mean, sure, Innocents were in danger, but did that guy really have to choose a day when it's raining? Like, really?

No, that guy could wait until the sun came out. Ivan needed to-

"Mr. Peters."

Ms. Smith, Ivan's personal assistant, stayed annoyed as Ivan groaned and turned to face her.

"What do you want?" He asked, scowling. "Can't you see that I want to be left alone right now?"

Ms. Smith sighed and resisted the urge to pinch the bridge of her nose. She did not get paid nearly enough for this.

"Mr. Peters, you are going to be late for your appointment with The Detective if you don't change back, and head to the designated meeting spot right now," She said, her words deliberate and clear.

"I don't care!" Ivan yelled, causing some of the passersby to look at the two in utter bewilderment. "It's not my fault that it started raining, and besides, now that it is, I'm not going anywhere!

Ms. Smith let out another sigh, then came up with an idea she'd knew she'd regret.

"...Do you want me to carry you there?" She asked, looking like she wanted to die. "My umbrella will shelter the both of us from the rain, and you can stay in my arms while we're-"

"Yes, please!" Ivan suddenly exclaimed, cutting off Ms. Smith and leaping into her arms.

Ms. Smith looked at the grown man in a cat's body for a bit, already deeply regretting her life choices. Then she just sighed again.

"Alright, let's go," She monotoned with dead eyes, then started walking over to the location The Detective was waiting for them at.

When they arrived at the hotel, and then later, at the door of its boardroom, Ms. Smith noticed that Ivan was now sleeping and purring in her arms.

"Mr. Peters, it's time for you to meet The Detective," She said in a loud tone, causing Ivan to wake up abruptly.

"Aww, but I-"

Ivan looked up to see Ms. Smith boring a hole into him with her glare.

"...Fine, fine," He said, then jumped out of her arms and was back in his human form in four seconds. Ms. Smith was then about to tell Ivan to just knock on the door when-

"HEY, I'M HERE!" Ivan yelled, thrusting the door open and stepping inside. "You said you wanted to meet with me?"

"..."

Ms. Smith facepalmed.

She really wasn't getting paid nearly enough for this.

"Character quote"

Gender:

Age:

Appearance:

What does your character look like? What do they wear? Images work in conjunction, but I ask that we do not use any overly anime or cartoon-styled pictures. It is not a hard rule so feel free to use said pictures if that is what you want for your character :)

Personality:
{Three}{charater}{traits}

Please include a concise description of who your character is.

History:
{Acomplishments}{and}{failures}{equal}{amounts}

Be as detailed as you'd like. I would include all pertinent information about what your character has done or has been through. keep in mind these characters are from the modern world and for the most part, will have lived a life that is not mystical. While that is quickly changing, the base point remains! As well, please also include what it was like for them when they got their powers and how they learned they had them!

Equipment:

Any item they carry :)

A nice and simple CS template. Feel free to use or create your own! I ask that all the base

So, do I need separate sheets for both the human and familiar, or do I just need a sheet for the human?
Alright!

I'm going to commit, so-

I guess who I choose will be up to who the other players choose?

If I choose the split personality dudes, one of them(we'll just call him Doc for now) is a registered doctor and will probably be the healer of the group, while the other(who we'll call Juggler for now) banked real hard on his and Doc's circus/runaway child background and is mainly support, acting as both a buffer, morale, and sometimes a distraction.

...Okay, I'll probably choose the split personality dudes, but only because I just don't want another front line fighter. That slot can be filled by udonoodles' character and someone else, thank you very much.
Aight!

Rather if they both have powers, the character with their magic and the demon with theirs, they combined power of the two should equal to the power of any other character in the story. If the demon is more powerful, maybe the magic of the user is weaker or the other way!

I’m all for a bat familiar :) very witch

Aight! How about illusion magic for the "demon" and light magic for the human? That would lead to some interesting combos, right?

Do I need the "demon" to have a "demon" form and a bat form, or just combine the two?

Either way, the "demon's" magic will be slightly stronger than the human's, at least for right now.

<Snipped quote by VarionusNW>

I do agree that having a demon that grants a ton of powers would be outside the scope of the story, but I can be swayed towards the power of the sum of the two being equal to another character. Maybe the characters magic will present more weakly than other characters, with this being bolstered by what the demon can do. With the growth in strength I have planned, it could be something that is represented by the character and demon learning to work together. Maybe this isn’t a demon at all, but the start of a familiar?

I do intend for the world to be a copy of the world we’re in, so possessions/haunting/things of the sort should be considered “actual events” that rarely happen, but do!

I’ll start working on an OOC and I’ll get more information up for it there! I’ll sprinkle in some lore nuggets in here in the meanwhile :)

How would that work, though? Do you mean that the human can't do much by themselves, but when the "demon" takes over, the magic is much stronger? Or that the "demon" can just bolster the human's magic, and due to the human accidentally binding them to them and the constant quarreling, they usually just don't want to?

Either way, if the "demon" is going to be a familiar, I'm up for making them a bat if they have a physical form!
