Qhorin. He has (half) a mechanical hand a la Luke.
Koren and Corran?
Sep said God damnit, I was gonna go for the pilot type. Meh, will do it anyway. Tis gunna happen.

I lay no claim to any role as of yet, Sep. ;) In point of fact, I'm fairly sketchy with piloting lingo, so if you have any better a grasp on it than I do, feel free!
I'm definitely interested. The period in between the two trilogies is rife with potential, and a Spaghetti Western, Dirty Dozen sort of vibe is even better. I had a similar idea myself once upon a time, where Imperial Intelligence hired a bunch of bounty hunters and prisoners to do some high-risk dirty work that may have eventually led to interaction with the Rebel Alliance.

If we end up needing a token human, I even have a character ready with a pilot/smuggler background. Bit of a Han/Lando combo, I'll admit.
"A bad peace is worse than a good war."
"When I go more than ten miles out of the city, the love and loyalty of friends comes to an end."
"All citizens must place the common good before the private good."

Here (at last) is at least one of my proposed characters. We'll see about the rest...

Name: Ghisault Carloman Abou Sayeed Abdoul Tariq Albert
Age: 31
Race: Human
Nationality: Valanian
Allegiance: ???Profession: Duke Averre-de-Gris & Count-Septemvir of Mas-de-Bagnères; semi-retired military officer & statesman

Biography: Born to the Valanian duke of Averre-de-Gris, Guillaume Albert, and Yasmeena, a daughter of famed Sarifen general Al-Tariq over a decade before the War of Sarifen Conquest. Upon his homeland's annexation, his father was rewarded for his fealty to the victors by being raised to the office of Count-Septemvir of Mas-de-Bagnères, one of seven venerated cities rich with culture and commerce on the borders of Valania. It was there where Ghisault spent most of his adolescence and, in time, its rule was passed on to him.

When he came of age, he enlisted in the Valanian Auxiliary Corps, a small but considerably prestigious part of the greater Sarifen army established in order to placate (and inveigle) the conquered nobility. Joining the Chasseurs, a squadron of light cavalry "skirmishers" and colonial law enforcement, Ghisault quickly earned a reputation as an even-(and under-)handed young officer. After learning that a cabal of his fellow auxiliaries were using their position to "punish" local Sarifens for their dubious "involvements" in the war (their heritage, it was insisted, being 'entirely beside the point'), Ghisault set them up to be exposed, handily defusing a political powder keg and winning some accolades for himself in the process.

The more diehard nationalists among his unit saw this as a betrayal and sought to ruin him, but he managed to neutralize their endeavors by leading them in the seizure of a rebellious Sarifen satrap's lands and estate to quench their thirst for Sarifen blood; that this order had anywise come from the Sarifen government was tactfully omitted. As to the idle rumors of secret meetings between the young Duke Averre-de-Gris and those fugitive Hussars who had fled rather than submit during the War, no sources can confirm.

Following his tour of duty, Ghisault established himself anew in Voltas where he became known as a political mediator between the Valanian and Sarifen courts, a patron of the arts and sciences and a generally marvelous host and entertainer. He has dwelt there primarily ever since, occasionally returning to Mas-de-Bagnères or visiting other notable retreats of high society, Orad's in particular.

Notable skills/abilities: Ghisault was raised with a full classical education, is well-trained in the art of rhetoric and debate, use of the spada da lato, mastery of the horse, has kept close study of economic theory and mercantilism and is fond of philosophy, astronomy, anatomy and the other sciences. He has cultivated an impressive network of friends, acquaintances and allies throughout Carcassonne. Displays some talent for the piano, but prefers the rebec or the ney flute. Speaks the Valanian and Sarifen tongues fluently and can carry on limited conversation in a few others.
@Ivory - Go for it. ;)

@GI - Ha, oh that! And I always love that creepy asylum guy, too. His delivery is great, although it is a rather obscure allusion. =P And I like all of what I'm reading.

Did I glimpse before that the Sarifen conquest happened ~20 years prior to the present day? I don't want to play an especially young character, but if that's the timeline you want to work with, maybe my aristo can be the product of an arranged marriage from sometime before it happened.

Man, this St. Hildy lady wrote a looot of liturgical songs (and did a lot more besides)! I'll have to study up on her more later. And that video was pretty cool, though I suspect our gals might have a little more armor on - probably not unlike the sort those mooks were wearing, actually. Crusader-type stuff.

@Dreamshell - Was that one of your characters ideas? I'll admit I did not read all and every character ideas everyone put out there. If it was, we could create characters that know one another? :)

I'm open to it, certainly. ;) Though right now I literally have nothing in mind for her other than that she's a merchant's daughter and a novitiate to the Order of St. Melita.
@GI - Thanks! Glad my ideas went over so well. :) Alas, your reference escapes me.

For the aristo, I could have him be descended from one of the families that submitted to Sarifen authority (or even collaborated) and married into its nobility. That kills two birds with one stone; he's got an ancestral shame to try and redeem and he'll be of mixed racial heritage, so he can fulfill that tried-and-true "tall, dark and handsome" trope. That same background might also make him more progressive and less distracted by preserving his pedigree (and the privileges exclusive to it) like some other bluebloods.

In reference to Pepperm1nt's query about whether or not this will be a "heroes get together and fight bad guys" RPG, I would definitely argue otherwise. I interpreted this more as a sprawling war story meets political drama meets pseudo-historical overview focusing on several characters spread out over Carcassonne (with PC interactions of varying frequency). Am I right in assuming that? Anyway, looking forward to it.

@Ivory - I will gladly concede playing a female knight initiate, if you're interested in an active member of the Order instead. I still have two other PCs I could write.

@Konica - Nice find with that painting! I adore it. And by the same artist (Ingres) who did that very imperious painting of Napoleon in his coronation costume. ;)
Okay, a few character ideas (I may play one or a few, depending on approval/interest);

-A swashbuckling Valanian aristocrat/statesman. Very much in the vein of a 'Musketeers' type, with a taste for the good life but also some real-world military experience (as a leading officer, of course). He'll play some part in setting state policy and be working to redirect the more egregious excesses of Valanian aristocracy to the good, in a somewhat 'Scarlet Pimpernel' fashion. I want him to have a more Francophone-sounding name, indicative (at least in my mind) of being from very old Carcassonian stock. He'll probably operate primarily in Voltas and anywhere else high society flocks.

-A stoic Sarifen spy. He's one of the informants keeping the Sarifen govt. up-to-date on the movements of the southern nations and the general disarray of the region (refugees, famine, civil unrest, what-have-you). He may or may not be playing double agent, or end up switching allegiances. His POV would focus on the cloak-and-dagger espionage going on behind the scenes as war builds up.

-A merchant's daughter who joins the Holy Sisterhood (if class doesn't bar her inclusion, anyway). 'Cause, hey, you gave me the opening. Her arc would follow the breakout of warfare between Valania and Sarife firsthand, as well as the ground-level effects of the decisions made by the nobility and govts.

I hope I haven't gone too far off the mark with any of these.
Thanks for all the supplemental info, GI! Not sure what I want to play yet, but I'll get to work on something starting Monday. Your call if you want to provide a character skeleton of some sort. ;)
