Then I'd say if they are so integral to anyones post - they should consider a) playing the character themselves/ finding a player to take on the commitment - b) if it is only a passing reference, should it be in the post at all.

Passing references are a hallmark of a shared universe. Go to any of the Lee/Kirby stuff, and you'll see a ton of it.

I don't think that's the issue at hand. Carol made a reference to the X-Men because we're fighting the Brotherhood. That's a natural connection to make. It would be like if one of you fought Doctor Octopus, you might make a Spider-Man reference. They're intrinsically linked. So if they don't exist for whatever reason, we need to know before our characters contradict that fact.

@Eddie Brock If I remember correctly it was colours that used to trip me up with Matt back on the Hype. I'd forget that it was the one thing Matt couldn't "see" using his radar sense and throw in the word "yellow" or "red" on occasion - which people would ruthlessly point out in the OOC thread within seconds.

I totally getcha. The challenge of writing from Matt's perspective was one of the biggest reasons Daredevil was on my shortlist, but I went a different way with it. And boy am I glad I did now.
