We are capable of being serious when we think something or someone is idiotic. We also usually maintain a high level of seriousness when a crisis or deeply personal situation is brought to our attention.

The true beauty of Spam is that you can never tell when some people are going to ignore a thread like this one or gather around and grump in it.

Which FF game is worth getting?

After passing by my shelf and seeing it staring at me, I also need to raise my hand in favor of Tactics. When people ask me which FF games to play, I usually never think of Tactics, but it consistently ranks as one of my favorite strategy games or strategy RPGs.

As a Final Fantasy game? Kinda rubbish, as it deviated a lot from the tried and true franchise. If you just think of it as a JRPG and don't mind the fact that the first half of the game is very linear, I find the battle system, characters, world, and even the plot to be a whole lot of fun. It looks and sounds beautiful and always kept me busy. It has its critics, but I think it deserves credit.

I'm not one of those people who will go around and slap a "garbage" sticker on every copy of VII I see, but I think it just underwhelmed me, especially since it is the highly lauded commercial and critical darling of the franchise. I didn't care for the characters or the story, and that's what makes an RPG for me. The world was fine, gameplay was good, it featured a nice soundtrack, but I never really found myself having a lot of fun while playing it. VIII and VI always kept me interested, X was just fun, and XIII made me care about the characters and world even if the linearity really bugged others.

I have kind of an unpopular opinion on this one, but my favorites were VIII, VI, XIII, and X. XII and IX both played fairly well. I really dislike VII and IV but I will never suggest that they shouldn't be played. Avoid all of the sequels.

Thanks for the clarifications. I'll get on thinking about this with some degree of seriousness. As for right now, I should glance at this linguistics problem set before I get emotionally invested in character building.

Living in college makes it hard to entertain random, greedy children who come door to door. When someone knocks on my door on Halloween night now, they're half-dressed, drunk, probably female, about to vomit, and likely not asking for candy. I admit that it is much less fun to scare these people than it is to terrify the young'ns.
